Check Log - Computer lagging/running slow

Q: Check Log - Computer lagging/running slow

Hi,

Below is the HJT Log, could someone please review this. Most of the downloaded programs (O16) on my log are not showing up on my add/remove list. The only program that I still use is Ofoto. If they are not showing up on my add/remove list, then how can I remove these from my computer?

Also, on my add/remove list there is a "BUM" ... I'm not sure what this is and have not seen it on there before. Could someone tell me what this is and if I should remove it?

My computer runs extreme slow and I end up rebooting two/three times an hour. Sometimes there is a lag every few minutes. Most of the time when I reboot my computer I lose my internet connection and need to unplug my cable modem and if that doesn't work, then I reboot again till I get my connection back.

If there is additional information needed, please let me know.

Thank you for your help.
Lisa

Preferred Solution: Check Log - Computer lagging/running slow

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello

My computer has been running very slow lately and lagging when i I am watching videos on youtube. I looked at the programs I'm running in task manager and saw that something called svchost.exe has been taking up the most memory (40000 or so) when everyhting else is around 20000. Anyways, I ran a DDS scan and a GMER scan. But while running the GMER scan, I got a BSOD saying that a file "pxpdakod.sys" was the problem. Here is my DDS scan:

Download Ad-Aware SE from here:
http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html?part=69274&subj=dlpage&tag=button

Install and run Ad-Aware SE. On the bottom right corner of Ad-Aware you will see an option called "Check for updates now", click on that and choose "connect". Download the updates. Next click on "Scan now" on the left side of Ad-Aware. Make sure that "Search for negligible risk entries" is crossed out and not ticked. Choose "Perform full system scan" and click "Next". After Ad-Aware scans your computer, Ad-Aware may find some bad files on your computer so make sure you tick them all and choose "Next". It will ask if you want to remove those items so just continue. After removing the items close Ad-Aware.

Hi,

Recently been having some trouble with my computer lagging and there are a lot of times where I try to click on something, for example try to close a program... it does not respond. Other times, the mouse seems to have gotten very sensitive, sometimes i may have hovered over an icon, but then the program launches. I have tried to check the touchpad settings to see if somehow the settings has been changed to make it more senstive, however, nothing has changed since I last modified the settings. There is a lot of other weird things that happens... it seems as if the computer is off on its own.

I suspect there is some kind of virus. I was wondering if anyone can help me check my HijackThis Log. Thank you very much in advance!

by the way, if it helps.. I have a Dell Inspiron Notebook, running on Windows XP.

This is the most recent HijackThis Log.

Can you please check my log. I have my laptop pretty well cleaned thanks to Cookie, but my husbands is a mess. I downloaded and ran 2 malware programs that were recommended (malwarebytes and super anti). Both found stuff in cookies and deleted them. The computer runs extremely slow and won't even open 2 windows or more without hearing it running in the background. Please let me know what my next step is in fixing this problem. THANK YOU!!

Hi there,

I thought I had always been pretty diligent about cleaning my computer and keeping AVG and Malware bytes up to date and using them regularly. What I have noticed is that I *think* I have a lot of processes running and I have been noticing some lagging and slowness in my system. If anyone had some input or suggestions for me based on my HT log, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Here is my HT log after startup:

Run a good virus scanner, like MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, to verify you don't have something nasty dragging it down.

IE 7 is running extremely slow and lagging. I have had this problem in January and had adware/spyware problem. About three weeks ago I had vundo virus with numerous popups, but between Norton Vundo Fix and the Panda Scan which claimed to fix the virus I had no further problems until about two days ago when my IE started acting up and the processes reporting that I am using 282,000k just to run IE. I ran the Panda Scan and did the DSS Scannner. Here are the logs

Hi there,my name is Marius and I will assist you with your malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully. First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding. Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one. If you have any problems while following my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem. Do not run any other scans without instruction or add/remove software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me. Post all logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts. If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed. Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean. My first language is not english. So please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to read. Thanks for your understanding.    Scan with FRST in normal modePlease download Farbar's Recovery Scan Tool to your desktop: FRST 32bit or FRST 64bit (If not sure: Start --> Computer (right click) --> properties)Run FRST. The only solution i can draw from this is that i have some sort of spyware on my computer. any advice at all would be hugely appreciated id rather get this sorted out now.

Hi,

I am using an HP dv6338se laptop.

AMD TurionX2 1.8 GHz
2GB RAM
Vista Ultimate SP1

Very Recently, explorer.exe has been running at an extremely high CPU, even up to 100% CPU. I uninstalled most of my programs, certainly any such as Limewire, uTorrent, etc, and any other that I have installed recently. It has not changed anything. I have run scanners from AVG and TrendMicro to remove any problems, but they havent turned up anything special. Here is my Hijackthis log. I hope someone can help me. Thanks!

I read that defragmenting the harddrive can lead to faster access times, i tried it, but it has not helped. i am sure it must be some bad programs or something. Umm... I cant think of anything else to add.. except that im fairly technical with computers, and im surprised i havent been able to fix it this time.

I've tried to follow the guidelines for posting logs... i hope it did it correctly...

Hello im having problems making my computer run at normal speed. It has been running slow for awhile now but recently VERY SLOW. It takes forever to boot up and any program I open also takes an eternity. Once the program is running it works fine.
I have scanned the computer w/ norton, malwarebytes anti-malware and spybot.
I removed all the harmful files. Spybot seemed to make it run slower.
In the task manager the CPU usage is at 100%. There are about 80 processes when I boot up the system.(seems like a lot)
I uninstalled a bunch of programs I never use to free up some more space and I also tried restoring it to an earlier date.
I gave it the newest updates for windows.
I deleted all the programs I dont need from the start up.
Today I tried running Malwarebytes' anti-malware today and it TIMED OUT!! taskmanager said program was unresponsive.
I'm not sure where to go from here. Do I have to wipe my hard drive??? Please help!!! It is a Sony VAIO laptop.

<<I removed all the harmful files.>>

That seems to always be a presumption...by those who get infected. Of course, it's not necessarily true but users seem to like to say/believe it.

I guess that I have to ask...was your system infected?

Any error messages during this troubled period?

I'm not sure what's been happening lately, but my laptop has been running kind of laggy and slow. My specs are as follows:

Windows XP SP2
Intel Pentium M
1.60Ghz
1.12GB RAM
30GB HD (19.1GB Free)
Software: Avast! AV, Comodo Firewall

I initially thought that my computer would only slow after I started Trillian, but I tested this (by not starting Trillian), and it seems it will still slow a few minutes after a restart. Restarting my laptop seems to solve this problem temporarily.

I have run the following programs to test out any problems, but they all come back clean:

Chkdsk
Defrag
Avast virus scan
Spybot S&D
Lavasoft Ad-Aware

Keeping it in safe mode (I'm posting in Safe Mode w/ Networking right now) seems to also keep the problem at bay.

Help?

Thanks!

Hi,

My computer seems to be running slow! So annoying, especially lagging when i'm watching clips or editing. I actually have 1GB of RAM so i'm just wondering if i'm running too many programs because surely that should be sufficient for what i do. I usually fill up my HD actually, but even after getting the space back it still seems slower then it should be. I do a lot of movie editorial work so i need the space!

Let's remove Panda completely first to see if it alleviates the problem. Make sure you install another antivirus program back though because as of now, you have no antivirus program running...

Download this file and save it on your desktop. Double click on it to run it and follow the directions...that should uninstall Panda completely.

Run tdss killer from http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/solutions?qid=208280684
let it cure anything it fnds ( except SPTD.SYS or anything detected as UnsignedFile.Multi.Generic, which should be ignored) & then reboot
post back with its log
By default, the utility outputs the log into system disk (it is usually the disk with installed operating system, C:\) root folder.
Logs have names like: UtilityName.Version_Date_Time_log.txt.
E.g. C:\TDSSKiller.2.4.7_23.07.2010_15.31.43_log.txt

Hello,

I am trying to help out my mother on her computer and considering you guys helped me out on mine, I figured I should come back.

Anyways, the problem with this computer is it has a lot of junk files, folders and things on it, yet I am not sure which files and folders are needed and which are not. Along with that problem, we have the bad lag. Sometimes it takes quite a few minutes to load Windows itself as well as programs.

My mother runs a eBay business and enjoys downloading games and music, so I know that is some cause of the slowing down of her computer.

Attatched is a Hijack This log.

Thank you in advance.

I just recently started having trouble with computer moving slow. When i boot up it seems fine. I have cable connection. When i go into websites like msn it takes forever for me to get into anything. I ran spybot and removed a BUNCH of stuff. But it is still happening. Do I need to stop stuff at start up? If so how do I know what to stop? How can I find out what's running in the background? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know nothing about computers other than mines slow all of a sudden

Hi guys,

I've recently bought a Dell Inspiron 15 (7548) which has i7-5500U, 16gb RAM, AMD Radeon R7 M265 4GB.

Problem I'm having is that the laptop is laggy and sometimes freezes.

I've noticed the disk usage sits at 100% most of the time.

I've just upgraded it to windows 10 in the hope that windows 8 was causing the issue but it has stayed the same.

Any help with this (as it makes the laptop slower than my 5 year old laptop which I replaced) would be greatly receieved!

Thanks!

First of all I'm blaming it all on ram since this computer only has 256mb. But anyways it used to be a lot faster (by a lot faster I mean it didn't take 10 minutes to boot up and load everything). I would understand it if I installed a lot of things, but the thing is I barely installed anything and even at that, I didn't install any high memory consuming programs, all I have is basically a kodak program, avast and some hp software. So out of the 40gb I still have like 33 free.

I have scanned with every program I thought off and find no adware/virus/trojans etc. But I still feel there's something not right.

Can anyone tell me if this Hijack log has anything strange. On other news the comp doesn't have the dvd rom installed either. It's not installed in the hardware manager and it obviously doesn't show on the "My computer" tab. It was working when the comp. came out the package, so that's another reason i'm suspecting something gone wrong. Tried deleteling the upper and lower filters and still no dvd rom recognition. I'm going to run a Registry cleaning tool... any recommendations on this?.

So anyway:
