Zone alarm requests ...

Q: Zone alarm requests ...

Hi folks

Just a quick question ..... Zone Alarm has asked me whether or not to allow these two items access to the Internet. A Motive Cursor Daemon and NetBios. The Net Bios request has come up a couple of times, and I've been denying it so far, on the basis that denying it doesn't seem to be causing any problems. But I'd still like to know whether to deny or allow permanently. The Daemon is a newbie

As always, thanks for your help

Preferred Solution: Zone alarm requests ...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Zone alarm requests ...

The Daemon program should be some kind of virtual drive program (if I'm not wrong). I would Deny access to both. To avoid this nuisance, check the box at the bottom to remember the settings. If anything, you can go back into ZoneAlarm and change the permissions again if needed.

Only allow access to programs that you know. If anything goes wrong, try giving the program access (it may be valid).

I have gone through all the steps to clean and protect my computer (Windows XP Dell) and thought I was really clever. Took me best part of a day. However, my partner can't now connect to the internet from his laptop, (also running Windows XP), and I am about to fall asleep trying to suss out how to find the IP address of the laptop to add to the trusted zone of Zone Alarms: which keeps flashing up messages that various addresses are trying to access my ports!! Help, before I lose all credibility. My computer is now trussed up like a turkey, and I am about to become single again. My computer is about to become disposable.Computer dunce (PS - read the tutorials about TCP and UDP. A:Unable To Add Laptop To Trusted Zone In Zone Alarm

I'm in the same situation, and have learned a few things. Go to Start > Run >cmd. In the black box, type ipconfig. This will give you the ip address of the computer you're on, as well as the gateway ip address of the wireless router. I also have zonealarm firewall, so I added the ip address to the trusted zone. You may also want to check your wireless router's info because depending on the security you've set, it may ask you for a code (WEP or WPA). Let's start here and see what happens. Sounds like this will be one for many inputs...

I have been really happy with the security that Zone Alarm has offered me so far, but I do have a few gripes with it as of late. If I try to open Firefox while Zone Alarm is running, I will get a "this page cannot be displayed" type error. Same thing if I use Internet Explorer. If I keep refreshing or restarting Internet Explorer it will eventually work. Only them am I able to open Firefox and get it to connect (let me know if that doesn't make any sense). Sometimes I have to shut down Zone Alarm to connect to the internet on either browser and this gets quite annoying. I want to keep the security it brings, but it can e quite a hassle. It also either takes forever or won't allow me to log in to websites like MySpace.com. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Hello slyblackdragon,I see you have an open HJT log posted in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum. You shouldn't make any changes to your system, while your HJT log is posted, as that could change the results of the posted log, making it difficult to properly clean your system. At this point, the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.I'm closing this topic until you are cleared by the HJT Team. If, after your log has been cleaned, you still need help, please PM a Moderator and we will re-open this topic. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to send me a PM.

Something's wrong with my Zone Alarm. Once in a while, I notice my internet's going at a painfully slow speed. So I turn off Zone Alarm, and everything goes back to normal. In fact, it's happening right now. I've got Zone Alarm turned off because it's causing my internet to go extremely slow.

Does anyone know why it's doing this and how to fix it?

A:Zone Alarm

If you are using the free version, my suggestion would be to turn on the WIN XP Firewall, unistall ZoneAlarm, install one of the other free software firewalls, then disable the WinXP Firewall. How are you connected? Are you using a router? The most important thing to keep in mind, regardless of which anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-spyware and firewall you use ( http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/default.mspx ) is to keep it UPDATED, just as it is important to make sure you have all windows critical and security updates. + = http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/...t.aspx?ln=en-us

You can do a WHOIS domain search...there are several options for this if you just Google "whois." Alternately, you can google the domain and when it returns nothing, click on "Find web pages that contain the term 'xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx'"

Hiya

f-secure is an anti-virus program, whereas Zone Alarm is just a firewall. What was the problems that you had with those two?

However, did you fully remove f-secure? If you're not sure, take a look at this:

http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/downloads/removeav.shtml

Do you have ZoneAlarm Pro 3 or 4?

can't link to this bit, but can copy/paste:

First, check in the upper right-hand corner of the ZoneAlarm Window. You should see an “All Systems Active” message in green letters (to the right of the lock). If the panel is displaying “All systems Active” and ZoneAlarm is still not functioning properly, it is possible that some files have become corrupt. To repair this problem, please follow the steps in this article.

I'm having trouble with my Zone Alarm firewall. I've been getting the "Page Cannot Be Diplayed" error a lot. My son plays NeverWinter Nights on-line. He's made a module there for people to play at ( I don't know what that all is about really ). He says that since I installed the ZA his friends can't get into his module. When he tries to shut down the firewall he gets a dialog box that says that even if ZA is shut down, TruVector Monitor will still be in place, that there are other processes using it. I saw the posts below about ZA. I wondering if I should uninstall the ZA and try something different. *sigh* Anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I am running AVG on this laptop but I wonder - do I still need Zone Alarm or any other protective measure as well as well? I thought WinXP has a decent firewall built in and I don't want to double up unnecessarily thereby slowing my laptop to a crawl.

Anyway know?

You have both versions of XP so do you have a dual boot setup to choose which OS you use or does it work some other way? Is it possible that the duplication of OS's is part of the problem (I don't have XP so I don't know how you would go about setting up accounts etc. in each version).

Have you looked at this MS article about problems following SP2;http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=884130&product=windowsxpsp2 and have you disabled the XP firewall?

Finally, you could try the ZA Forum for more ideas;http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs

Imagine if ZA didn't block!
I think much of this sort of thing is just internet noise pinging you.
Best thing, in addition to ZA, is get a hardware router. Then ZA will not have to work so hard defending you (and writing a loooooooooooooooooong log to your drive), as the router will reject most of that trash. There are days when I watch the router with disbelief as China Telecom, and communication companies from every corner of the world are hitting the router. Yet only 2-3/day actually make it through for ZA to deal with. Of concern are things that are outgoing, and both ZA and the router will make you safer.
At least that's my understanding how it all works

Since I had my laptop set for Automatic Updates I received SP2 last night. Seems like it has more security features - supposedly better firewall, popup blocker, etc. And so far it seems to be working fine. But I noticed in the SP2 Security Center info there's a list of programs that won't work with SP2 for various reasons. Zone Alarm is on the list. I've read more about Zone Alarm, and although I tried it before and didn't like it, I might like to try it again. It gets really good reviews. And I'd like to return my ActiveX settings to Default since I continually get warnings. But what about interacting with SP2? And what about any other firewall product interacting with SP2?

Need some experienced advice (that's a given in this group!).

Thanks in advance -

A:Zone Alarm

Hiya

If a program is trying to get out, then most of the time, yes. But there are some exceptions. However, you may want to use AddAware, as if the spyware cannot access the Web, some of your programs may not work:

go here and download AddAware http://tomcoyote.com/lsindex.html

Download and run, ensuring that Deep Registry scan is enabled. Remove all except any references to Web3000 or new.net. If you're unsure, copy/paste the list here.

Also, whilst you're there, download and install RefUpdate to get the latest updates. Just click Connect.

My initial thought goes back to my initial installation of ZA.I carefully and patiently read the 135 page manual.Implemented (to the best of my abilities) the information.Met with mixed results.Hung in there for over 30 days with it. (free edition, naturally enough for me) Finally said (and to myself, initially.... pride, ya' know) Enough is enough.Heard (read) other comments to the effect that the new ZA version & winXP (expecially SP2) might be ah, somewhat problematic.Installed Sygate (free) and applied what I'd learned about firewalls in generalduring my ZA experiments in trial & error (especially error, unfortunately).Seem to have met with an additional degree of success. That's my story & I'm stickin' to it.Please forgive me if I give any wrong impressions about ZA.I admire any company that produces a needed software program.Gives it away, for the greater good of the greater amount of people.Online.

You could try trimming your startup programs.

Go to Run and type MSINFO32

This will reduce rescources.

Unless of course, you have something thats trying to get out. Have you run a virus scan lately?

You should see a setting that would prompt you when a program wants access to the internet in the zone alarm. set it to prompt you then try to use the messenger and you should be prompted. Then when prompted be sure to change its settings to allow it to send and recieve.

Zone Alarm shows me that during the past 20 days it has blocked 20208 intrusions, of which 3788 were highly rated. Its Firewall has blocked 20213 attempts, and 32 programmes have been secured for the Internet.

My computer has a Broadband connection for perhaps eight or nine hours a day. I rarely surf and I avoid doubtful sites.

Should I be receiving a thousand intrusions every ten hours ?

Zone Alarm was highly recommended but its high detection rate has me wondering if it shows too many false positives.

A:Value Of Zone Alarm ?

I've been using ZA Security Suite for about two years and had no problems with it. I checked it out with a Tech talk forum, Myway Tech Talk. Extremely knowledgable people on there and they are all of the opinion that ZA is one of the very best anti spyware/virus scanners/Firewall out there. Stick with it, it will keep you safe. If you go in to ZA Alerts and Logs you can turn off the notifications and ZA will happily run in the background and do it's thing without bothering you. Although the quantity of alerts you are getting appears high it's nothing to be concerned about.

I'm still trying to get used to dealing with warnings from Zone Alarm, but overall it's going okay.
I recently received an email about a "beta" free version called Zone Alarm Force Field. I'm assuming beta means brand new, correct?
Can anyone here give me some feedback on Foce Field + is it something I should download in addition to my regular free Zone Alarm program?
Thanks

Zone Alarm is a good program and I have used it for quite some time now. But, yesterday I upgraded to the latest version 3.1 ( I believe) and I had nothing but problems with my system from the 1st minute I started trying to use it.

The best version they came out with was 2.6.362 and I will never upgrade again.

Trust me once I did the upgrade nothing worked right on my system.

Luckily, I had my system ghosted on the back partition. So, I ghosted it back to the way it was, took me all of 6 minutes, and everything is fine now.

So, just a warning. Don't upgrade to the new 3.1 version.

Good luck,

Laffctx

Hi, Just thought I would ask since I never seen it before on my ZA icon. On occasions I see a curved up arrow on my ZA icon in my system tray and i was wondering if that is natural and is suppose to happen or is this spyware? If someone could let me know i would greatly appreciate it.

No worries dude, Zonealarm is working normally for you and is just updating "Zone Labs security software is receiving an update, such as an update of
new spyware definitions or virus definitions." pg. 15 of the Zonealarm Manual, found here: http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/media/pdf/zaclient65_user_manual.pdf

Hi Guys

A warning and a question for those running Zone Alarm free or Pro Antivirus / Firewall.

it was running perfectly fine on my windows 10 pro machine however after the anniversary update it has uninstalled itself without warning .

I am unsure if this occurs with other virus software.

Regards

James

Perhaps it was "told" to uninstall; maybe don't count out Zone Alarm Pro or free just yet. What happened when you attempted to reinstall it?

I've just downloaded and installed the latest version of Zone Alarm Pro 3. Now here is the problem. I guess it blocked all the Cookies and so I cant move around on TSG! as I used to. I need to logon every now and then. About the cookies I've read that its dealt with the Privacy Protection option. So I wanted to ask if it would be fine to disable this Privacy Protection.

Also I'm not able to check my mails too. Its gives the message that Invalid Login Try Again when I enter my Username and Password at the Email site(www.rediff.com)...

Thought ZoneAlarm would help but is giving probz

Though I know its a very good tool but would like to configure it first correctly and enjoy its benefits.

Any help would be appreciated!

Can't seem to get beyond that. It says the versin is free. Any ideas? Thanks! Take care and have a great day. angelize56
