Ping and hostnames issue

Q: Ping and hostnames issue

Hi,

My current setup is this.

PC A = Domain controller. 2 nics (bridged) and adsl connected via usb.
PC B = 1 nic
PC C = 1 nic

PC A has a ip of 192.168.0.1/255.255.0.0
PC B has a ip of 192.168.1.1/255.255.0.0 - DHCP
PC C has a ip of 192.168.1.2/255.255.0.0 - DHCP

PC A is the domain controller and also serves as a DNS and DHCP server running win2k3. PC B and C are running winxp.

I have a few problems which ive just noticed.

Firstly, PC C always joins the domain with the first charchter of the hostname being capitalised...why?

Secondly, all machies can ping each other, but if i ping PC A from PC B, and then try pinging PC B form PC A it suddenyl stops communicating (cannot find the host - times out).

Thirdly, if i ping PC C from PC B it pings fine, but does not display the FQDN only the netbios name.

I have tried to re-register the DNS server as well as checking firewall rules etc. One thing i have realised is that i have not entered the domain name as the primary DNS suffix on the client pc's. I am currently at work and will do this when i have the chance. But apart from this what else could be the problem?

Thankyou for your help,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm using a wirless labtop but I'm having an issue where I cannot ping any hostname on the network.
From labtop:
ping hostname of a computer on NW << errmsg 'Ping request could not find host.'
ping IP of a computer on NW and it works.
When I ping local hostname or local IP I get a, 'request timed out'

From another machine on the network:
When I ping the labtop's hostname I get, "Ping Request could not find host..."
When I ping the labtop's IP address I get, "Request timed out."

I also did an IPCONFIG /ALL and pinged the default gateway IP, DNS and DHCP servers and all worked.

Is there any way to configure something here so that the wirless labtop can communicate with the rest of the network?

A:Cannot ping local or remote hostnames

this is called Ping By Name, the other form is Ping By IPaddress.

You should always be able to is Ping By IPaddress and if not, then there's a problem
with the TCP settings.

Ping By Name requires some service to translate Name=>Address.
At home, the simplest means is to add the names into the host file.
The file is located at
\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc\hosts
You may need to login as an admin id AND to reset the read-only attribute to
be able to save the file.

Use Notepad to do the edit.

The content should be
name (sp) addressthere must be at least one (sp) SPACE between the name and the address
eg: linux7srvr 192.168.0.2

ALL THAT SAID, you may have further issues on the network configuration.
The address of each system normally changes everytime you start the system due
to the DHCP service in your router. It is preferable to use DHCP rather than static
addresses, especially when you will seldomly need Ping By Name.

Hopefully, you don't need to debug your network every day, so I would recommend
AGAINST all of the above and use Ping By IPaddress when necessary.

Hi
I got a new laptop in july. It's a Dell inspiron with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, an AMD Phenom 2 triple core processor, 6GB RAM, and a 640GB Hard Drive. While i'm on my laptop a process called ping.exe starts and after a little while it starts to use all of my CPU. I found a temporary fix by suspending the process from the resource monitor but it has started to restart itself sooner than it did when i first started doing this. I've done a little research and found that ping.exe is a normal process but that what it's doing is completely abnormal. I was going to try and delete it but my task manager said it was in my sysWOW32 file so I was afraid to mess up my system. My other issue which my be related is that whenever i search for something on google and click on a link it redirects to random sites. And just a note I have some experience removing viruses and malware but not on Windows 7.

Help would be very appreciated.
Thanks in advanced.

Hi i'm having a strange issue with one of my users.

We run a logon script to map network drives to a users machine during logon using the following schemea \\hostname\share$

However for this one particular user onehostname cannot be resolved.
All shares on another hostname are mapped successfully.
And when mapping via IP ALL shares are mapped successfully.

I'm successesfully able to Ping the hostname and I've tried flushing the DNS cache and restarting the machine but the problem persists.

No other users or machines are reporting the issue.

If you can offer any help or advice I'd be greatful

This issue has happened every now and then on the wifi only for some weird reason and in the past couple of months and now it's starting to happen on my wired network. I cannot go to any websites such as google.com unless I use their IP directly. This means some things like Skype and TOR (only method I have of posting this at the moment) still work. I've tried everything from static to DHCP LAN IPs, router/ISP/opendns/google's DNS servers, and nothing seems to fix the issue. This affects all wireless and now wired devices including android, windows, and lubuntu. Chrome gives the error message "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_BAD_CONFIG". What on Earth is wrong here? Is it the router? Modem? Is it my ISPs fault? Does anyone have any clue?

A:Cannot access any hostnames, only IPs

Not a Chrome fan.. Drop to DOS and type in nslookup and see what the output is. Here's an example:

C:\Documents and Settings\MikeyB>nslookup
Default Server: google-public-dns-b.google.com
Address: 8.8.4.4

In the above you can see from my computer here, I have google's dns resolver manually configured in my ipv4 properties. You have said that you have tried putting in a static DNS address and it did'nt work. I'd check inside your router for the info that your ISP might have xmitted to you.

Also, flush out your DNS cache

ipconfig /flushdns

I have a computer with LAN IP OF XXX.XXX.5.190 and I am hosting 3 VM's with IP's of XXX.XXX.5.192, XXX.XXX.5.194, XXX.XXX.5.196
In my router config port forwarding I have set ports 21, 80, and 81 forwarded to XXX.XXX.5.192 and I setup hostname of HugeDomains.com - YourSiteGoesHere.com is for sale (Your Site Goes Here) so that RDC to this site will direct you to the desktop of XXX.XXX.5.192
Now question at hand is, can I set-up a seperate hostname to direct to one of the other VM's that is set-up on the host LAN IP? For example, set-up www.forwardtoVM2.com direct to XXX.XXX.5.196?

My OS: Windows 7 professional 64bit

Developing Drupal 6 sites locally using XAMPP 1.7.1.

I discovered localhost (127.0.0.1) is accessible either by typing: "http://localhost" or "http://kat.ph" (?).

Where "http://kat.ph" comes from?

I opened my "hosts" file on Windows and it is not listed there. I checked "httpd-vhosts.conf" out (\xampp\apache\conf\extra\httpd-vhosts.conf), but it is not there either.

I had this problem before restoring completely my system through recovery discs.

After restoring completely my Windows operating system, the issue is still there.

I have made a computer scan using the Windows Malware Removal Tool, Eset Nod32 AV 5 (installed on my machine) and even Eset Nod32 online scanner. Result: no threats found.

It seems like two default hostnames have been assigned to 127.0.0.1.

How can I get rid of "http://kat.ph" pointing to 127.0.0.1?

I want only "http://localhost" to be mapped to 127.0.0.1.

Thanks,
Arnold.

I found out what happened (unbelievable).

This is the proof Western democracies are slowly
falling into China-like dictatorships while people
keep on sleeping.

</rant>

I connected another PC to the Internet and...
guess what? The same problem arose.

To cut a long story, my ISP (Telecom Italia) has
blocked some sites, they are not accessible at all.

If you connect to those sites while a local server
is NOT running, you are presented with a "Page not found"
error.

But, if a local server like Apache is running on your machine
and you try to connect to a given censored site, you are
redirected to 127.0.0.1 (localhost).

I have had the confirm of this by trying to connect to
a different censored site (kickasstorrents.com) while Apache
was running. Same behaviour as kat.ph (that is, I am redirected
to 127.0.0.1 (localhost).

No virus, no bug, nothing like that. It's simple, old-fashioned,
tyrannical, iilegal, China-style CENSORSHIP.

I am using an eMachines W3502. My internet comes through Suddenlink, and the cable modem is connected and working properly. It has been reset, both by myself and by Suddenlink. The NIC is also working correctly, as far as can be seen. I have an IP address, and the adapter correctly gets the DNS servers automatically. However, for reasons unknown, the computer will NOT resolve DNS addresses. If I ping a remote IP, I get an answer just fine, but if I ping google.com, the name cannot be resolved. I have confirmed with Suddenlink that their DNS servers are working fine, and I can confirm that. (I'm using a second PC to troubleshoot the first one, and to do so, I'm connecting through that same cable modem, and using the same DNS servers.) I have tried manually entering Google's free DNS servers, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (which I confirmed that I can ping), and this did not resolve the issue. I've flushed the DNS (no help) and even installed a second NIC. The second NIC detected perfectly, and behaved exactly like the first. It can get an IP, it can ping outside, but it cannot resolve host names. I've exhausted Suddenlink's tech support - they have confirmed that their hardware is working, and they won't support the issue beyond that.

I will post the results of a sysinfo as a reply to this message. For further assistance, I'll also post the results of a ipconfig /all.

Thanks ahead of time!

Hey Guys,

I got what I assume is a real simple problem for you folks but then again this is my first try in the world of networking/webdev/servers.

The Backstory
So I have a Linux server in my house (runs Fedora 14) that I was using as a FTP server for my friends and I to upload files to when we needed to share stuff. It used to be linked to my dyndns account which pointed my old hostname lucout.homelinux.com to my FTP server for FTP connections.

The Problem
Now that dyndns is no longer offering free accounts I've taken the next step and purchased my own domain (lucout.com) from namecheap.com and want to point my FTP server to that domain.

What I Have Done So Far
I got my namecheap account set up to have A type host records that point to my comcast-given IP address 50.152.XXX.XXX for the @ and www. hostnames. I also have URL forwarding turned on with those settings.

I have ddclient (finally) running on my linux server with the following ddclient.conf file:

Code:

daemon=300 # check every 300 seconds
syslog=yes # log update msgs to syslog
#mail=root # mail all msgs to root
mail-failure=root # mail failed update msgs to root
pid=/var/run/ddclient/ddclient.pid # record PID in file.
ssl=yes # use ssl-support. Works with
# ssl-library

## To obtain an IP address from Web status page (using the proxy if defined)
use=web, web=checkip.dyndns.org/, web-skip='IP Address' # found after IP Address

Why go through all this if you could just keep running with DynDNS for the pay for service plan? I was also affected by this and they gave me a coupon code to save an additional 20 or 25% (can't remember) off their service packages. I ended up just paying $60ish for 5 years of service.

I have forgotten the url of a site I've used a lot. It hasn't been real long since I used it, so the site should still be active. I have looked through stored passwords, bookmarks, and histories for many browsers, and can't find it. I've searched online by what kind of site it is - a site to help memorize lists, like names of all the elements, or countries of the world, or words in a foreign language, and haven't had any luck with that approach.

What I want to do now is use a program to search the entire hard drive for domain names and make a list- searching every file would probably do, or every file but able to pick folders to include and exclude might save a lot of time. The domain name is almost certain to end in .com, if not, then .net, so being able to pick which domain names would be useful too.

For this purpose I don't need to see the file except for the domain names. Ideally each domain name (hostname, perhaps, something like "stackexchange.com") listed once, in alphabet order, or maybe sorted by the date the file it was in was last accessed or modified or created.

Something like

ask.com
google.com
microsoft.com
stackexchange.com
zebra.net

but much much larger.

I am unfortunately not in a position to spend money on the software.

I am receiving proper connections and ping reply while these machines are connected in an unmanaged switch. But when I connect these PC's (the switch) in my Intranet (have the same network configurations) Ping gets issue. From COM1 while I PING the gw, its getting a long time to return the replies, while COM2 & COM3 are providing proper responses.
I have tried a seperate NIC in COM1.But the results were same.

A:High Ping Issue

I haven't found traceroutes the best method of ping testing... They look at where the packet bounces to and from, and returns that data. Try something like Pingtest.net or Speedtest.net

For me, Google loads nearly instantly with a cleared cache, but when I try to do a traceroute, I get 2800 ms. For a direct ping, that goes through all layers to the desired source, use something like "ping" on command prompt.

Check the firewall settings for your ICMP choices. To respond to a ping you must enable an echo of ICMP requests through the firewall.

Maybe this would go in networking?

I have 12 Mbps and my friend has 6 Mbps and on l4d2 we both had around 70-80 ping.

Not bad really except now mine is around 90-110 and his internet company got a bundle deal mixed with dial up and after they fixed that his ping has never been the same. His ping has went up to 130+. It has sometimes even went up to 400+.

We don't live THAT close to a server so we cant get lower than 60 that i know of.

So my ping isn't that bad but his is bad. The internet company (windstream) says they did everything right and its on his side when nothing has changed on his side.

Any ideas on house to fix his ping or a argument we could start with the ISP?

A:Solved: Ping issue

One thing you might try is a tracert command to a high ping rate site.It may show you a slowly responding hop on the route. If so and it is out of your network, then call your isp and discuss it with them.
One other thing I should mention. If your are using a modem and or router, you should disable any firewall active in them,to get accurate tracert info

Hi, I'm having a problem with browser redirects and I noticed that ping.exe is unusually appearing in my task manager at boot up. Also one of the svchost (a system user) is maxing out at like 99% CPU usage, until I stop the ping.exe process.

I just read that Steam was compromised upon visiting this website now. I don't know if my problem is Steam related or not, but who knows. I've very recently encountered a small barrage of problems. The browser hijacking when I search in Google is the worst. I did have some similar problems with browser redirects a few months ago and a member of your staff was very helpful in the removal process. Hopefully we can fix this as easily too. Today, I got one of those fake, rogue anti-virus things all of a sudden, but Superantispyware was able to take care of that. I ran SAS several more times finally ridding myself of a bunch of adware cookies and crap until the scans came up clean. Ran Malware Bytes, Spybot, and Rootkit Buster and all came up good as well. I see someone else has a problem with the executable ping on the front page here. They likely have the same issue.

Anyways, I've been through this process once before here, so I sort of know the drill, but I am posting here before taking any steps more drastic than just some basic scans. I can post a hijackthis log if needed to start.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As stated in the Topic title I am having huge problems with this PING.EXE file taking up a lot of memory and CP usage. Like the other people having/had issues I have tried opening file location and deleting only to be rejected from doing so and ending process tree only for it to reappear a few minutes later. Also with PING.EXE running I noticed another task (in multiples of 10 at times) coming in and out called 6HVW33-1.com running in the SYSTEM area. I have been prompted to update my Java mulitple times, in which I did, yet still get prompted to do so in a faster than usual time lapse. Any information/ help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I Have Comcast and one of those router/modem combos. and I'm hardwired directly to the modem, and I have tried this on multiple Pc's, both wired and on wireless.

The issue is that my ping randomly spikes. It started happening about a week ago, when I randomly started getting disconnect from game servers. Not just one game either, basically any game that requires an online connection. The thing that's weird, is that i don't "lag" and then get kicked. And remain in the Voip program i use and don't get kicked from that. One second i will be in game, next second I'm in the menu with a "disconnect from server" etc.

The only actual issue is that I can find is that when I do a ping test, even when I do it directly to my home ip, it randomly spikes. Sometimes its not high, sometimes its 200+. But at the same time, I don't understand why it would disconnect my from games and not just make me lag.

I have serious ping issue when playing counter strike. My ping just bounces between 20-80 constantly which makes my bullet registry horrible and unplayable. Also every 5-10 minutes it goes up to around 150 for a few seconds then drops back to 20-80.

I have Time Warner Cable (TV and Internet) Roadrunner Turbo 1mbps/10mbps.

System Spec:
Windows XP
Dual Core X6800
8800 Ultra
4GB Ram
300 GB 10000RPM WesternDigital
300 GB 7200RPM Hitachi

I tried almost everything I can think of.

1. I check for spyware everyday so that is not the issue.
2.This doesn?t happen just during the core times when everybody in the neighborhood is using the internet but during the whole day like 4AM etc.
3.I checked if any software is running in the background, and also run->cmd->netstat gave me like 5-7 TCP lines. I uninstalled all anti-virus software, and have my windows firewall off.
4.My counter strike rates are updaterate 101 cmdrate 101 rate 25000 fps_max 101
5.I have no loss or choke ingame.
6.I check my bandwidth at speedtest.net pretty often I get around Download 9900 kb/s ?
Upload 990 kb/s.
7.I?m using wired connection through a wireless linksys router (WRT 310N), also tried connecting directly from the modem but I still have the issue.
8.It?s not the server side?s problem, because I?m the only one in the server that has this issue and all the servers I join I have the issue.
9.I?ve tried this system at another house close by that has Roadrunner, ... Read more

The sound in game is stil fine but my screen freezez completely and i can only hear whats going on as well as people speaking to me. I went to a local lan this weekend and my local lobby was fine in the game so its not my display drivers causing this problem as i hae updated them. On speedtest.net it says i have a 42ms. My computer is infected by a virus or malware that continuously launches the ping.exe file which, if kept running, eats up all available system memory and eventually crashes the computer. I have to end the process via the Task Manager every 30 seconds or so. I installed Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and the program keeps successfully blocking outgoing attempts to connect to malicious websites. I would greatly appreciate any help you could provide me in trying to diagnose and fix the problem. I followed all the steps in the "Preparation Guide for Use Before Using Malware Removal Tools and Requesting Help" and my logs are posted below. Thanks.

Been a while since i've been here... Wondering if I can get some ideas on a rediculous issue i'm having on a clients network. In 23 years I haven't seen this.

Intermittently, eight windows 7 computers lose access to the server, been going on for a week and at a loss for anymore ideas. When they lose access, they can't even ping the server - yet they can ping everything else. The server cannot ping their IP address.

- XP computers are not affected, most windows 7 computers are not affected.
- Server is windows 2003 domain controller, no firewalls in play. No errors to indicate issue in event viewer.
- Affected windows 7 are a mixed bag of hardware, no firewalls in play
- Network Switches have been swapped out
- Firewall has been swapped out, Endian firewall was showing drops over 137/138 to .255.
- Flashed the bios and upgraded drivers on affected windows 7.
- Ran various AV scanners (combofix etc), nothing.
- Plug in another computer to the same port and it works fine.
- Ran all the appropriate commands, netsh etc. Works for a short period, then drops again.
- If I change the dns, I can get internet fine but of course using the DC - no internet.
- Change the network port of an affected pc while doing a ping -t, I can get one reply but drops again.

I'm sure there's more, but you get the gist of the troubleshooting.

I'm at a loss...

Also when I want to watch some video on Discovery Channel Canada Broadband, they also go from 100 ping to 600 (fluctuating). I have a D-Link DIR-625 router (all comps wired in) my modem is an Motorola Surfboard SB5101 which is connected to Shaw High-Speed internet. (5000kbps down, 500kbps up) I also checked to see how much bandwidth the video was taking which was only 500kbps. So how can I fix this issue. Thanks

For about a week now I've been noticing a dip in my internet connectivity. Symptoms were glitchy/laggy online gaming with increased average ping and ping spikes that had not been there previously, as well as decreased streaming media performance and increased loading time within browsers.

I am running XP pro. I have checked thoroughly for viruses/malware/etc. and everything appears to be clean. I have up to date drivers for NIC's, have cleared all temp data, done basically everything that the first tier Time Warner Cable(my ISP) tech support people will tell you to do as they read from that frustrating script we're all too familiar with and have had to deal with time and time before, including resetting modem and router, bypassing router, etc. etc. et bloody cetera.

I feel relatively certain it is something on my ISP's end but I began to do a bit more investigating.

Ran several pings to a variety of servers and noticed ping spikes every 10or so seconds into the 300-600 range from an average of about 20-30ms. Below is the google.com ping.

So I decided to tracert and see if I could find any other clues. Hop 1 always times out regardless of server, but from what I've heard from others that is not necessarily a problem. I pinged several hops into several servers, but saw no pattern, clues, or apparent weak link. There were still intermittent ping spikes at random 10second intervals for every server tracert'd or pinged. Below is the tracert ... Read more

Dear Experts
I have posted this question on another forum , but didn't get an answer yet , friend of mine discuss with me the below issue

New canon LBP6300DN network printer installed for an office that has 10 computers XP, windows7.
Everything was working fine for a while all of sudden client complained that he/she couldnít print.
He tried to troubleshot but couldnít find any problem then he spoke to canon, they thought initially problem with LAN adapter , they replaced the printer with another one ,,,,but same problem happened again ( all of sudden client complained that he/she couldnít print)
His troubleshoot were

When checking the printers (first one and the replacement one) connectivity (ping -t) before installing the driver ,,,,ping reply reaches up to 2500.
But when installing the printerís driver on different computers and laptops at the office and checking the printers (first one and replacement one) connectivity (ping -t) ,,,,ping reply reaches up 600,,,then they timed out but when switching off and on the printers ping is resuming and they can print.
Ping was checked for two laptops and one desktop didnít have firewall installed

Then canon took the printer (the replacement one) again and upgraded the firmware but still no joy.
Brought different printer HP not canon no problem everything working fine.

I recently acquired the XP Security virus and used the suggestions on your site through use of your routines and manual removal of files. I was left with a ping.exe issue that hogged computer resources to the point the system completely locked, except for mouse movements. Unfortunately, I saw your suggestion to use the ComboFix.exe before I saw your outline of how to begin the troubleshooting procedure. I was not connected to the internet when I executed ComboFix. The extraction list scrolled on the screen and the program seemed to terminate normally, but I could not find any log generated by ComboFix (I looked further than in C:\).
I am running XP Home Edition V 5.1 under Service Pack 3 and keep up with all updates. I ran the DeFogger, DDS and GMER in Normal mode, but I encountered ?problems? with GMER. You also need to check the configuration of the IPSEC tunnel to see if it has a match rule to put 192.168.10.0 network traffic through the tunnel from the remote end.

From what I can see, it's definitely a routing issue and it seems there is a route entry missing somewhere along the path.

This is a series of pings that I just did, and almost without fail, every 8th ping will spike from 500ms-1000ms. This is happening at such a regular interval that it can't be coincidence, but I couldn't find anything similar to this issue. Is this some sort of ISP choking? Pinging to my router has no issues, but any website will give a similar pattern to this.

Code:

Okay, I recently reclaimed an old computer to use as the kids' homework computer. Installed XP Pro from scratch, got all of the drivers and all system updates (using a WAN modem I had). Hooked it up with an ethernet cable to my switch, which in turn goes thru an Airport modem acting as the DNS server, and thence to the cable modem.

All computers on the network run very well. Except this one.

I can sometimes get Google, but almost no other site. The connection is being assigned a valid IP address. When I connect a laptop to the same cable, it works fine.

So, I've eliminated (I think) switch, router, and cable as the roots of the problem.

I could have the TCP/IP misconfigured somehow, but then I think I wouldn't get this:

when I ping another computer on the network, or the DNS server, or www.google.com, I get about the same result: sometimes all four tests come thru, but normally 1, 2, or 3 fail. Sometimes all four fail.

I suspect this means that I have some hardware issue, rather than a configuration issue. I've opened the box and the cables appear seated. I used compressed air to clean the dust from the ethernet port.

So I'm kind of out of ideas and found this site...hoping someone can tell me something new!!!!

Thanks,

Mike

Hello,
I am having an issue where every few days, a colleague's ability to connect to any web browser (Chrome, IE) is lost. However, she still maintains a network connection. Tried swapping between a LAN connection and a Wifi connection it makes no difference.
Please note, that I have already:
- Ran Malwarebytes/Checked for Viruses
- Deleted browsing history
- Ensured LAN settings were set to "automatically detect settings"
- Ensured no rogue DNS configurations were present within the TCP/IP settings
- Ran ipconfig/release; ipconfig/renew
- No proxy settings
- No Windows Firewall enabled
What makes it strange (to me), is that all of these issues go away after a reboot. I'm certain there are other steps to try, and have already seen them on other forums but none that I've come upon note that the issue seems to go away after a full reboot,
and that it's pretty random (sometimes every 2 or 3 days, sometimes every few weeks). She is the only person in the office that has this issue.
Please advise!

Hi,
It looks like I have malware that redirects the browser to a number of places I don't want to go nor where i typed. It happens on both Firefox and IE. I have Windows 7.
I have Kaspersky installed now as well as Malwarebytes. Neither can find the issues and fix them. I've run Kaspersky's TDSSKiller. It found 2 medium risks, which I deleted, but it didn't help.

When i look at Task Manager, I can often see ping.exe running at up to 70% of cpu.

Kaspersky just informed me that "C:\windows\syswow64\ping.exe downloading object hxxp://domain1for8.in/?site=8 containing Trojan program" Detected: Trojan-Downloader.JS.Iframe.com

When I look at Kaspersky report, it shows ping accessing bad places every 2 seconds or so.

Any help would be appreciated. I have a GMER.log that I ran last night.

Thanks!

-Andrew

Hi,
I posted in 'Am I infected' and was told to run the diagnostic program DDS and post files here.

I have malware that redirects the browser to a number of places I don't want to go nor where i typed. Places like *topsearches6*. It happens on both Firefox and IE. I have Windows 7.
I have Kaspersky installed now as well as Malwarebytes. Neither can find the issues and fix them. I've run Kaspersky's TDSSKiller. It found 2 medium risks, which I deleted, but it didn't help.

Kaspersky just informed me that "C:\windows\syswow64\ping.exe downloading object hxxp://domain1for8.in/?site=8 containing Trojan program" Detected: Trojan-Downloader.JS.Iframe.com
I get a lot of these types of messages from Kaspersky.

When I look at Kaspersky report, it shows ping accessing bad places every 2 seconds or so.

Another symptom, perhaps of a different virus/malware was it hid many of my files and almost all of my programs like Paint, MSOffice, etc.. I've since then unhidden all my files and they seem to be working fine.
Thanks for any help,
Andrew

I'm putting a website together for my cousin and we're going to transfer their domain name. We're planning on doing the hosting on Lunarpages. The domain name should transfer just fine, but one concern we have is whether or not their current e-mail address (which shares the same name) will also begin directing e-mail towards the new host. So will their current e-mail address transfer easily too?

A:Is transfering e-mail accounts as easy as transfering hostnames?

If it is the same domain name, after the transfer, setup the email
addresses in the control panel at the registrar, and everything
should work as soon as the transfer is complete and the
domain is active.

Hi All,
I am having a weird issue with my Cisco 7200 router. From the router I am able to ping and reach out to the internet but from the client I am able to reach out to the internet but unable to ping I am not sure where is the issue but when I traceroute to it my packets are dropped at my routers interface. All my pings from the client time out. I checked the Access list to make sure ICMP is not blocked.

A:Can ping from router but unable to ping from client machines

I am able to reach out to the internet but unable to ping Click to expand...

ping is not required to have connectivity - - it is only a test & traceroute tool.

From the client, get a command prompt (or in Linux a Terminal) use nslookup google.com
If it returns the IP address of google, then you can ignore the ping problem
