Yoga 920 randomly wakes from sleep while lid is closed and on battery power.

Q: Yoga 920 randomly wakes from sleep while lid is closed and on battery power.

My Yoga 920 seems to ranomly wake from sleep when the lid is closed. I'd had several occasions when travelling to find my latop completely dead when I needed it - or finding it burning up in the confines of my bag. A few times, I've been alerted to problem when I happen to hear my laptop make a notification sound. When this happens, the screen is already on when I open the lid and much of the bettery has been used. I've seen this occur both in and out of my bag. Nothing is plug into the laptop other then the dummy USB holder for the pen. I have Vantage installed and all updates have been applied.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When the laptop is closed, pressure on the laptop will cause it to wake from sleep. There is no option in the BIOS or device manager to disable the wake from sleep option for the keyboard. Here is someone with a similar issue with the ISK1. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-900-keyboard-wakes-laptop-from-sleep/...

Hi, I have a Lenovo Yoga 900 (Intel Core i7-6560U 3.2 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Windows 10) and have been experiencing the following issue since I purchased it: I put the laptop in sleep mode and into my laptop bag. The laptop will wake up by itself later despite the lid is closed. It then stays on as it's inside the laptop bag it gets very hot and drains the battery. Since this has happened closer to 10 times already I'm worried if the battery life is already damaged due to heating. Normally when I close the lid the laptop goes onto sleep mode.  I have already taken many measures to try and stop it from waking up from this article (http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/stop-windows-computer-randomly-waking/). I have set the power setting so that it should always go on sleep mode when the lid is closed. I don't understand how it goes on even when the lid is closed.  What could be the problem? Thanks in advance!

Hi All, I'm new to the forum and am loving my Y2P so far. I have been following several threads about tweaking my new machine, and I love the sense of community that you guys have here. I decided to join so I could pose a question: Has anyone had a problem with their machine waking up with the lid closed (in sleep mode). Sometimes when I take my computer out of my bag, it is awake. Since the power button is so hard to press in the first place, I don't think an accidental press is waking it up. Could a device be waking it up? What do you guys think? -IB

Yes, I have this too. Bad thing is I always have that in a laptop case so everytime when it wakes up it is baking-hot.

Most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. Computer goes to sleep when lid is open, and wakes when lid is closed. I can open it about 20 degrees and work on it like nothing's wrong. I tried turning off the lid-sleep option in Windows, but no change, and it goes to sleep instantly even if it's in the BIOS or mid-boot. The machine is practically new with very little changed from the stock configuration, and it was fine yesterday. Anyone ever seen this? Also the power button and little reset hole seem to not do anything anymore either.

Hi,I close the lid, the 710 sleeps. I move the external mouse, the 710 wakes. No other laptop I've got does that, I'd consider it a bug. As a work-around you can untick "Allow this device to wake the computer", on the Power Management tab of the HIB-Compliant Mouse properties dialog. Now the mouse won't wake the laptop when the lid is closed, or open of course, which is not ideal. I then changed the wireless mouse, replacing an old Logitech with a new JETech 2.4GHz 0885, the untick was repeated but the mouse still woke the 710. Luckily a documented oddity it seems and unticking "Allow this device to wake the computer" for the HID Keyboard fixed the problem. No idea why one mouse needed this but not the other one. Is this problem of an external mouse waking a closed laptop specific to this model I wonder, and is it likely to get fixed? Cheers

I have a Yoga 700-11ISK, and would frequently put it to sleep, put it in my backpack, & pull it out hours later to find it RED hot & the battery 90% drained.  After wasting an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out why it kept doing this (and damaging other items in my backpack due to the extreme heat), I came across this thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/25982/page/2 The problem is that the keyboard remains active even when the lid is closed, so if it gets squeezed in such a way that the screen internally presses a key, it will silently wake itself up.  Apparently Lenovo has spent the past four years churning out laptop after laptop that suffer from this defect, never thinking to learn from their mistakes.  Here are more:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-900-keyboard-wakes-laptop-from-sleep/...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Return-of-the-wake-while-lid-closed-proble...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/35267/page/6 I've tried the hack/script solution proposed in the first thread, but it doesn't work (the keyboard can't be disabled by DevManView without a reboot).  The other threads apply to the Yoga 900, which I guess Lenovo fixed with a BIOS update. This issue is such a problem that I've literally stopped carrying the laptop around...which was th... I want to demonstrate aproblem I have had with my Yoga 900 to see if others have had similar issues. I discovered this when I put my Yoga, (which was asleep) in my backpack, and then later noticed it was awake. It took me a while to figure out what was happening, but I finally determined that it had nothing to do with the backpack. My Yoga 900 would wake up when picked up by the short edge (as I did to put it n my backpack). You can see this in the video:Yoga 900 Waking when pickedup (BTW -- I am not squeezing the laptop, I am just holding it as needed to pick it up by the edge. This does press down on the lid and there is upward pressure on the bottom. It is the pressure on the cover that seems to be the cause of the laptop waking) Note that Lenovo has been great, and is sending me a replacement laptop. But I am curious if others see this same problem. Is this a common Yoga 900 Issue?

As you may have surmised from the title of this thread, i have a computer (laptop) running windows 7 RTM that will randomly wake from sleep mode. I am sure that it is not a wireless adapter, as i have already checked those settings.

Also, for some reason, i am unable to determine what woke the computer last using "powercfg -lastwake" in command prompt. CMD tells me that it isn't a valid function.

This is a very aggravating problem, as ever time i go back to use my laptop, i find that it is already on and very hot.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I wanted to contribute and hope this helps someone. I had a problem for about a week, after upgrading to windows 10, where my pc would wake randomly.
I went through control panel and power and adjusted all of those settings, made to uncheck the box that allows the pc to wake for updates. This didn't work. Finally, I caught the pc after a wake and put in the cmd powercfg -lastwake.

This told me it was my PCI Ethernet card waking my PC. I went to the device manager, right clicked this card, went to the power management tab and unchecked "allow this to wake pc". This has corrected my problem.

Hope this helps someone.

I've been noticing that my computer is randomly snapping out of sleep mode after a few hours.

I'm positive that I'm not bumping into the mouse or anything to accidentally wake it as I make sure to turn my wireless mouse off once I've finished a session on the computer. and often times the computer will wake in the middle of the night. I will select sleep mode before going to bed and when I wake up it will be running like normal, I'm really not sure what is causing this problem so if anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

I have tried to fix it by going into Device Manager and unchecking the box allowing the keyboard to wake the laptop from sleep, but thisboption was not even there.  Using Command Prompt in administrator mode and typing ?powercfg -devicedisablewake ?Standard PS/2 Keyboard?? does not work either. Command Prompt tells me I do not have permission to enable or disable device wake.  Is there a workaround or solution for this?

So as the title says, every now and then Windows 10 randomly decides to wake itself up from sleep. It doesn't happen at any consistent time, some days it stays asleep until I actually turn the PC back on. Using powercfg /lastwake just gives me a wake history count and doesn't provide any information.

I can't figure out why this is happening. I've tried googling it and have found similar complaints but no real solution. It's not hardware that is waking it up and I have already disabled the "allow wake" setting for my network adapters in device manager. Can someone please help?

Thanks.

The issue was caused by TeamViewer, it creates wake timers that are somehow ran even though wake timers are disabled. Try to uninstall TeamViewe.

When I put the laptop on Sleep Mode (Either if I close the lid, or if I do it from the "Start Menu" and choose the "Sleep" option), the Laptop goes to sleep, and then wakes up immediately (after 2-3 seconds) with no apparent reason. If I immediately try to make it "sleep" again, it wakes up again after 2-3 seconds. It is like it refuses to sleep. The only way to fix it, is to restart the laptop, which sometimes fixes the problem, only until it happens again - and I notice too late when my battery is empty.

NOTE: If you have a USB keyboard then you also need to setup for USB to wake up.

Hi, Sometimes when I close the lid off my Yoga 260 Windows 10 are not going to sleep. The behaviour is really weird because the red light on the lid is blinking like when it's in sleep mode, but I can hear the rotating fan. When I open the lid it's even weirder. Windows are not locked and I am not prompt for a password. The whole system is very laggy. The mouse is moving in jumps and there is not any response to keyboard or screen touch. After few seconds/minutes the system is suddenly OK like nothing happend. This is not happening all the time and I was not able to see any pattern when this happens. What should I do to get rid of this? Thx for help.

My current Win 7 installation was installed in July, 2013. From the time I installed it, I would put it into sleep mode by going to Start > Shut Down "arrow", and selecting Sleep every night. It would go to sleep and the power LED would flash. I would then press the power button the next day and it would wake up.

This worked perfectly until the last week or so. Now when I press the power button the power LED continues to flash for about 3 seconds, and then the light goes out. The only way I can get it to turn on is to press the power switch on the power supply to the off position, leave it off for a few seconds, flip it back to the on position, and then press the power button on the front.

When the computer comes back from this state, it acts like it's turning on from being fully turned off (I see the BIOS screen, etc.), but all the stuff I had open are still there. I guess this is like coming back from hibernation?

I don't know what happened to cause this. I have made no changes to the power configuration, no hardware changes, no driver updates. Maybe it was a Windows update that caused it?

How can I make the power button wake up the computer like it used to?

Thanks!

Basically, this started happening after I had to shut my computer down via the power button after Windows went unresponsive for 11 hours. After turning it back on the next day, it worked fine, but a couple hours later it started going to sleep while I was using it. I checked all of the power settings, including advanced, and all of them are set to "Never" and "Nothing", including what to do when the power button is pressed or the lid is closed. It still does this.

Hi @ElyMayor   Thank you for your reply. The last thing I can suggest trying is a restore back to factory.  Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 7) While doing the recovery there is an option to backup your personal files. If you have not previously done one now is a good time. Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 7) You can also contact HP support for assistance. Hello All,

In the last two weeks I have been experiencing something very strange with my Windows 10 Pro. When my laptop resumes from sleep the Wireless is turned off in Windows. I don't believe it was an update because I have defer updates enabled. Unfortunately, I just noticed System Restore was turned off.

1) I have checked the power settings in Device Manager and the device is NOT checked to use power management)
2) I have updated to the latest wireless driver available.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I believe this issue has something specifically to do with Sleep because when I reboot or shutdown/power-on the Wireless is enabled and working fine. It only seems to be when Windows goes into sleep mode.

Hi everyone, I just got a Thinkpad x270 and I'm having an issue where the processor gets throttled to 60c / 2GHz when the lid is closed on battery power.  I posted about it in detail on the Linux Mint forums here.  I originally thought this was a Linux kernel / driver issue, but it turns out this happens on Windows too, no matter whether I set every setting in the BIOS and OS power management to max performance, power save, balanced, etc.  I can get around this by closing the lid on A/C power and then unplugging, or just running the  laptop on A/C while the lid is closed.  If there is some kind of inherent danger in running the processor over 60c with the lid closed, I would expect it to thermal throttle at that temperature regardless of whether or not it was plugged in when the lid was closed.  I can also boot up the laptop with the lid closed and bypass the throttling limitation. It seems like either:- the temperature should always be throttled to 60c when the lid is closed for some reason, and it's not being enforced in all scenarios even though it should be, or...- it's a bug and the CPU shouldn't be throttled at such a low temperature at all. Either way, it seems like there is a firmware issue that needs to be fixed.  Can anyone from Lenovo shed some light on this issue?  Is it by accident or by design?

I understand this is a long shot, due to number of possible software variables, but I need help, as this is becoming a more and more frequent problem. I have a y510p. It is running Windows 8.1, haven't jumped to 10 yet. I run pretty average software - Google Chrome, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, obviously a few other things.  I've been having a problem where for reasons I do not understand the laptop, which I bring around with me in a backpack, has been waking up after I disconnect from power and USB dock and close the lid. I don't know when it wakes up, or if it just isn't sleeping at all, but it is quite problematic in that it will at the very least just drain the battery every night and worse it is just cooking and cooking in the backpack.  I know it is a stupid thing, but I do find it a tremendous nuisance to sit there and stare at the status LEDs every day when I'm ready to go home just to make sure the stupid thing has absolutely gone to sleep. Control Panel - Power Options are set to sleep on Lid close (tried Hibernate on Lid close, no better result), and this even happens when WiFi is disabled in Control Panel - Network connections. The Always On USB port is also disabled in BIOS.

I've had my Yoga 710 for about a year now and it's never had any issues. However, I was using it yesterday and it randomly shut off. Since then, every time I attempt to use it without plugging it in, it will shut down after a few minutes. It will only stay on if I keep it plugged in despite the battery saying it's 100%. I'm not too good with technology so I'm not really sure what the problem could be. I checked all my hardware and there aren't any issues. My laptop is also up-to-date with Windows updates.

I bought my Yoga 13 (type 20175) brand new in 2014.  It shipped with Windows 8, 128GB, 4GB, if I recall correctly.  I had a license for W8 Pro that I used and there was a free 8.1 upgrade that I completed not long after purchase. Upgrades over the last (almost) 3 years have been boosting it to 8GB of ram, installing a Samsung SSD 850 EVO (250GB), Windows 10 (Pro), and now a battery. Sometime in 2015, I started noticing that if I didn't use the laptop and left it off for 2 or 3 days, the battery would completely discharge to 0%.  I chalked it up to age, and could still get several hours of moderate use in a day, so it wasn't a priority.  Finally, I bit the bullet and bought a brand new battery and put it in last week. Nothing changed.  I still have the same problem. In retrospect, it may have coincided with the installation of Windows 10.  Below is a further description of the problem and things I have tried.   PROBLEM:When shutting down, the battery loses an average of 2.5% per HOUR. (i.e. after 10 hours, it goes from 100% to 75%)This is consistent whether I use the Windows Start menu, the power button, or a command prompt (shutdown /s /f /t 0) to turn it off.  By the way, putting it in hibernate burns at the same rate. When putting the laptop to sleep, the battery loses only about 0.75% per HOUR (i.e. after 10 hours, it goes from 100% to 92%).  This occurs regardless of how I put it to sleep... Hi. I've updated all the drivers, per technical support's advice. I'm losing 1-5% per day when shut down and 5-10% per day in sleep mode on my new Yoga 920. Is anyone else having this problem? Do tech support read these forums?

Hi amote,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Battery draiining reports are also visible on other OEM forums as well and most likely related to similar features offered by Windows 10. Such also applies to different model of different macnufacturers as well.

Disabling fast start as discussed here would be a good step to try first.

Our forums are peer to peer community discussion group but Tech support (although maybe limited to their own scope of support) also utilizes the discussions we have for investigation of issues.

Update us how things go.

Regards

Battery drain in sleep mode is excessive compared to other Windows laptops. Leaving the office with a full charge, not powering on the unit at home, I come in the next day and the battery is 89%. Same scenario over a weekend - Leave the office with 100% charge, come in Monday morning, having not used the laptop and the battery is 78%. This has nothing to do with the fancy OLED or anything - it wasn't turned on. Hope this can be addressed in a BIOS update. I really want to love this laptop but the short battery life compared to advertised specs and the excessive battery drain while sleeping leave me with mixed feelings.

Hi All,
I have two systems a N650SLI-DS4 and a GA-EP35-DS3L hooked up to a Trednet KVM switch. If I put the GA-EP35-DS3L to sleep and switch to the N650SLI-DS4, the GA-EP35-DS3L system wakes up. The only way I have been able to keep it in sleep is if I hold the switch for the N650SLI-DS4 while pressing the sleep button and then switching to the N650SLI-DS4 immediately the GA-EP35-DS3L won't turn on until I press the power button. Now the N650SLI-DS4 doesn't have the problem. I went into the BIOS and disabled the keyboard and mouse wakeup but don't know what else to check. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to check next?

This is what happened to me for the past few years. This week I just replaced my N650SLI-DS4 with an ASUS P8Z77-V LK board. The Asus also does NOT show the same issue that the GA-EP35-DS3L has. Could this just be an issue with the power supply?

Thanks,

npolite, it could be that you have "wake on lan" set on in your network card.

I tried closing all programs, and different user accounts to see if it is a specific program that's causing the issue but to no avail. I'm using Win 7 ultimate 32-bit.
