I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

- Network and Sharing Center - Manage Wireless Networks - Delete the school one and try re-connecting
- Disable firewall
- Run services.msc and see if you have Bonjour service running, stop and try if so
- Try Safe Mode with Networking
- Re-install/update wireless driver
- Run cmd as admin: netsh winsock reset

Hey there!

Okay, so where i go to school there is about 1100 students and its in one large square block building and there is atleast 20-30 routers in the building.

When connecting to the internet in some parts of the building the internet is fine, like in most classrooms, but when in the (very big) hall, there seems to be little or no connection and my computer jumps on/off all the time, making it hard to study.. I have an Acer Aspire Timeline-X and i never have network problems apart from this.. my main concern was that it was that the routers' output is bad, but other computers (mainly MacBooks - about 40-50% at my school) have no problems at all gaining internet connection whether in the classrooms or in the hall.

Anyone have an explanation for this? and are there any ways or tweeks to gain or ensure a better connection or isolating a connection..

any help would be much appreciated!

heyya s.e.s, welcome to TSG.

Seeing how this is a school, chances are high we are not going to be able to do too many tweaks at all. Have you contacted the school's IT department yet?

I've run into a really annoying issue with my Toshiba laptop running Windows 7. It uses the Realtek 8192E wireless NIC.

I recently (in January) ditched my WRT610N router for a Netgear WNDR3700. The WRT610N got hit by a surge in December, and started losing its settings every few days, and needing to be reconfigured from scratch every few days. I'd had it for two years, and never been satisfied with range or speed.

Netgear worked fine at first. I tested it with my desktop machine, which is connected wirelessly (and runs Windows 7) and with my laptop which also runs Windows 7 and connects wirelessly.

A few weeks ago, the laptop started having weird problems.

Intermittently (every 30-60 seconds) a little yellow exclamation mark would appear over the bars showing internet strength, and the laptop wouldn't be able to access *anything*. Then, the exclamation mark would go away, and I'd be able to use it...then 60 seconds later, it would be back, and I'd lose connectivity again.

When it's working, it's slow......it's dropped from getting speeds of about 38 Mbps for file transfer to about 500 Kbps.

Further, consistently, since the problem started occurring, my wife has run into an issue where if she tries logging into Facebook, the laptop will just sit there and read and read and read, but never get in. We can walk away, come back 15 minutes later, and the little icon for IE is still spinning, telling us it's still trying to load the page. Same thing with logging into To... Read more

My Dell laptop has trouble connecting well to my home internet. With wifi, it is almost always super slow, like 8 or 9 mbps. Sometimes resetting the modem and restarting the laptop at the same time will fix this temporarily. With ethernet, occasionally it connects and is fine, but more often I get the message, "unidentified network," and it won't connect at all.

Other devices in the house (phone and roku) have no problems with connection or speed. My laptop sometimes has similar issues with other outside wifi connections and sometimes not, but never quite as bad as at home.

I solved this problem once by getting a new modem. But recently they came and installed fiber internet, and the problem started again with the modem that came with it. I'd replace it, but I don't know how to guess which modems will cause this problem and which won't. I think I just got lucky the last time.

Any idea what could be causing this and how to fix it?

So basically got my school laptop yesterady, the internet worked fine at school but when I came home it wouldn't work. When I came to school again today it worked, when I came home again it wouldn't.

The internet connection showed that it was connected () but I don't got internet acess. Some restarts I have internet (pretty slow) just on the beginning, sometimes pages just loads forever or very long without connecting and sometimes it just loads a little bit and says network error.

I've been working with trying to fix it all day yesterday and like one hour today, and now I just want to get it done so I came here to make a thread. My network is fine with the computers/telephones in my house so it's not the router.

I've tried to use the windows network error checking tool, it just says that the strandard gateway isn't available (which is not getting automatically resolved) and it identifies a problem aswell that the connection between the router and internet has disconnected.

I have tried to...

* Restarted
* Changing battery network card settings to high priority
* Disconnecting, reconnecting
* Re-typing wifi password
* Deactivating ipv6
* Using a DNS
* Few CMD commands
* Changing an option called "dulex/rulex someting" or something that tells how much mb/s you should receive (or something like that) from router to automatically detect to 100mb/s, didn't make any difference either
..and more

A:New laptop, can't connect to wifi at home but can at school

This is quite simple - The School is using a proxy within Internet Explorer. You must have admin rights for this to work.

On Internet Explorer, - Tools - Internet Options - Connections - LAN Settings - Untick the bottom box (Proxy)

Close and re-open IE, everything should be working.

Make sure you make a note as you will need to re-tick the box when you're next at school.

Good evening Tech Support Guy forums. Here is one for you. I am using a laptopt that is used at a school. The owner (member of staff) can connect to the schools wireless internet but not the one here at home. The computer is running XP Pro and I'm a Linux guy so I'm stumped.

Bascially the wireless card picks up the router, connects and tells me the signal strength is great and all is well. That is not the case. When trying to get anywhere on the net I get the old could not find server page. I have taken an ethernet cable out of the back of one of the other machines and plugged it into the laptop. I need to tell it to not use proxy at all and to automatically detect settings. That is fine but the owner needs the wireless. Like I said the card works fine at the school. Here it won't. I told it to not look for hte proxy and get the settings automatically. We have other machines that connect to the router wirelessly and the router itself assigns the laptop an IP.

Can anyone help me fix this and get it all sorted?

The card is D-Link Airplus DWL-G650+ and the router is a Belkin F5D7230-4 Wireless G router.

Any help much appreciated.

Hi All

I've recently started teaching at school which has a serious internet problem. When I joined the school they informed me the WIFI was terrible as the phone lines to the area were "overloaded" and they were working on getting fiber optics. The annoying thing is, they have given the students I pads, but without internet access they are pretty useless.

Having worked there for three weeks I have seen that some classes have a decent connection and others have nothing. The ones that do have WIFI are located next to what looks like a wireless router (similar to what I have in my house with a little aerial).

My questions are, would this router be some form of WIFI repeater? And if so, would installing more improve access in the classrooms? If not, and the "overload" explanation is true, could someone point me in the right direction of where to start looking for possible solutions.

Thank you very much in advance and if you require any extra information just ask and I will investigate.

A:Solved: School WIFI issues: A question of speed or "spread"

These are questions for the school's IT and it's also their responsibility to address, you should be taking your concerns to them. We cannot assist a user or employee with changing or altering what is generally a secured and controlled network and doing so could bring serious consequences to you and to us. I think this thread should be closed based on those grounds.

Although I am connected to our wireless network on the Folio 13, there is no internet connection. I can, however, connect to the internet via Wifi on two other household laptops, both of them HP, so I believe the problem is with the Folio itself. I can also connect to other computers on the network on the Folio, but something is preventing it from getting on the internet. I can only get the internet via hardwired ethernet connection on the Folio. I have tried the following fixes, multiple times, without success: -Run the Windows troubleshooter for Internet/Network. It says the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken. (But not on other wifi computers here--works fine.)-Reboot/Reset the modem.-Disable/Renable the wifi adapter (Intel Centrino Wireless N 1030)-Update wifi adapter driver (it says driver is up to date)-Uninstall/reinstall wifi adapter-Remove Wifi Network from list of available networks; reboot, add this network back in-Roll back all Windows updates from the past month-Searched self-help forums for a possible solution And yes, the wifi keyboard light is blue, not orange. Can someone help please?

Hey guys,

Trying to help my Mother in law and I'm at my wits end. I don't pretend to have even a 10th of the know-how of some people here but I typically can trouble shoot minor issues. That being said I'm stumped...

My MIL's computer is a yoga 2 11" running Windows 10. All of a sudden after owning it for 5 months it will only connect to certain wifi's. From what I can gather it will connect to any wifi network except the one at her primary home and the vacation house they're renting for the next week. Any others including; my house, Dunkin donuts, Starbucks, free time warner locations, etc... all work without issue.

Her husband tried trouble shooting with negative results. I then gave it my best shot and came up empty as well. He then took it to Best Buy where it was purchased and of course the computer connected instantly to BB's network and the geek squad member said there was no issue. I then spent an hour on the phone with Microsoft trying to have them help me. They were successful in resetting all network settings and got the computer to browse the Internet for about 3 minutes. Then all of a sudden pages would not load.

- Resetting all network settings results in the Internet being reached for about 7 refreshes of any particular website

- then pages stop loading

-repeating the reset repeats the cycle of working and then not working

-it's almost like all of a sudden something in the computer says "oh wait, I'm not supposed to le... Read more

My new laptop keeps dropping my internet connection. The wifi works fine on my phone, other laptops, ect, and when i use other networks the laptop drops them too. First it works fine, then it'll tell me that the wifi network has no connection (untrue). i'll disconnect it from the network, attempt to reconnect it, and then the laptop tells me there are no connections available, when in reality there are many. its is getting really frustrating as the only way to resolve this is turing it off and on again, which is driving me insane. any help would be appreciated.

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A505 running on Windows 7 Home Premium. Over the last 2 months, I've been having serious issues with my laptops wireless connection. The connection itself just suddenly drops, before reconnecting at random times later (Sometimes its immediate, sometimes it takes 5 minutes, sometimes longer). The times it does this is random, however I have noticed that it also tends to do this more often when, strangely enough, people are around or enter my home. I don't know if that happens because of their cell phones or what, but almost every time a guest or two come over my internet connection flat out drops repeatedly

I've tried numerous fixes. Downloaded drivers, acanned for malware, moved by router and changed its channel. Also, these connection drops seem to only occur with my laptop. When my laptops connection drops, I'm able to browse at that exact moment on my cell phone just fine, which I connect to use my wi-fi at home. My cell phone almost never has these issues

Is there anything I can do to remedy this situation? It's very annoying and even more troublesome getting anything done

Hi, I just have an Acer laptop that I installed Windows 8 on. My wifi connection keeps dropping around every 5-30 minutes and goes to "Limited Connectivity". I can keep a stable internet connection through a ethernet cable. I first thought that the reason for my connection issues was other wifi sources causing interference but I've tried using my laptop in various different locations where my friends laptops work. Also my friend's laptop works fine in my home. I'll paste an ipconfig /all because from others posts, people are asking for it. I've also downloaded the latest driver from the Acer support page.

Hey guys, hopefully someone can help me figure this out. I have a work computer that's having an issue with wifi connectivity. After mistyping a website and catching one of those ******** "YOUR PC IS INFECTED, DOWNLOAD ME" sites (I had to ctrl alt delete it off because it froze my browser trying to do it's thing) a week or so ago, it's been only getting ike 1mb download speeds, whereas everything else in my house connected to the same wifi gets 70. So I attempted to uninstall my wifi drivers and do a reset to fix it. First time I got no results at all, kept getting low speeds. Second time however, I clicked Windows 10's "Reset network drivers" button, and on reset the computer logged straight into my BIOS because it suddenly couldn't find my OS drive. Unplugged it and got it back in and it came on. Now after the 3rd time of reinstalling the drivers (this time I installed the Asus WLAN control center and the drivers myself, my wifi is just connecting and disconnecting in a fastpaced loop. I'm also getting something constantly on my taskbar loading and disappearing before I can even make out what it is, over and over. I've done scans with Windows Defender and it's not coming up with anything, so at this point I'm not even sure if it's a virus/malware and that website actually managed to do something or faulty hardware. Any ideas?

Wifi card is an ASUS PC-ac56. Router is an ASUS ac1300.

Hi all, So I have done everything but throw my laptop out the window at this point, changing basic and advanced settings, working with the internet provider, no solution. My computer sporadically loses its connection to the internet for anywheres from a few seconds to a few minutes. It can happen every 2 - 5 minutes consistently, and then not happen for a couple hours. It is driving me absolutely nuts I have tried rolling back and updating drivers, none of it has helped. It is ONLY on my home connection, it doesn't happen on the others, and for some reason on my computer, even though it is the newest in the house, I get the worst WiFi speed, way below what the company advertises. I have no Idea how I can solve this or improve upon this issue, ive done so much research and nothing has helped. If ANYONE has any ideas I would really appreciate it.

Hi all. I can't connect to my network by either lan or wifi. I have tried some basic things and some advanced (described below). WiFi connects through my phone but still no internet access.

Story: I recently upgraded my M17x R1 to W8 and was successfully able to install all drivers including nvidia drivers. Everything was running fine for just over a week. On tuesday I was donwloading some files when all of a sudden W8 crashed. On restart it wouldnt pass the boot screen so I unplugged my external hard drive and was able to reboot with success. I dont know why the external hard drive would interrupt the boot since it never did before. Once everything was running again I noticed a triangle on the LAN network icon so it automatically connected to WiFi. I didnt think much of it until I was not able to connect to internet at all.*

Things I've tried:
1. Reset router an modem numerous times.
2. Verified with my ISP that modem was online receiving internet and had no blocks. Once again reset router and modem twice.
3. Connected modem directly to laptop, still no internet.
4. Using Windows troubleshoot: Problem 1, unable to idintify network = fixed , then problem 2 it would say unable to connect with DNS server. After running troubleshoot again, says connection between your access point, router or cable modem and the internet is broken.
5. Using CMD propt: Tried ping of any website = failed.

This is a complicated issue, so I am not sure if anyone will be able to help me.

I am currently a university student using university WiFi. I have been going to this school and using their WiFi for 4 years and have never had any issues. Last semester, I was suddenly unable to access websites/download files from the internet in one specific classroom. No one else in my class has had this issue, and my computer only has this issue in this classroom. The issue only occurs about 80% of the time I am in the classroom.

I don't believe that I am unable to receive a WiFi signal, because my computer says that it is connected and has all the bars. Also, I know that the problem is about to occur because the webpages suddenly start taking forever to load, and finally they either infinitely "load" or I receive a message from my browser saying I don't have a connection, when I do.

Furthermore, when at my apartment (on a different WiFi), I am unable to login using my login credentials onto my school's library website (to search for journal articles, etc). When I ask a friend out of state to help me login, they are able to login with my credentials just fine. I am able to use all the other university websites when at my apartment, just not the library website. I am also able to use the library site everywhere else.

A:Wifi like School

First, you need a broadband connection, DSL, Satellite or Cable. Next, you need a router like one of these. Thirdly, you need a wireless network adapter in your computer. Most modern laptops have the wireless card built in; but, for a desktop, you'll need one of these.

Bear in mind whether signal may have to penetrate dense walls or go more than 30 feet or so. If so, I suggest you step up to one of the better routers and include a matching type of network adapter. The cheaper ones don't do as well at those things.

If you are going to get both, I suggest you get the same brand of router and network adapter. That way, tech support will be easier.

Hi folks, We have several Lenovo X1 Carbon 20FB Windows 10 Pro laptops.  More than one of them experience WiFi connection issues. Specifically and consistently when we move from room to room on our floor.  Even if connect automatically is checked, when we get to the destination, we may get connected to the AP, but unable to access anything, until we disable/enable the WiFi adapter.  This happens everyday, everytime.  I've been in the habit of disconnecting before I move. All other WiFi devices, phones, do not experience this issue. Anyone hear about this?

We have internet provided through the place we live for free. It is broadcasted as an unsecured wifi network. I can connect to the internet with no problems with my windows 7 computer. I recently got a windows 8 computer. I this computer has trouble staying connected to the unsecured network. It will connect for a few minutes then the limited connectivity will come up. Other times it says its connected has a full strength bar but the connection just spins and nothing loads. I have tried a few other forum suggestions with no luck. I have went to the settings and told the computer to not turn of the wifi to save battery which has not fixed the problem. I do not have access to the router and have not way to change anything with it. I have tried turning of the firewall turning of the windows defender to see it it was those programs but still have a connection problem. I am unsure what setting is keeping the connection from being stable with this computer.

Bad driver or has an antenna that is not as sensitive as the old Windows 7 computer. It helps to post the manufacturer & model of the computer.

Also open up a Command Prompt and enter the following without the quotes. Post the results on here: "netsh wlan show all" .

Little word of advice to all you folks - do not let your roommates use your laptop, as they will return it to you running slow as ever and with wireless connection issues. Every couple of minutes, my WiFi decides to shut down for about 10 seconds, then reconnect. Also, when browsing in Firefox, it lags/freezes quite frequently, and sometimes I have to click a link 2 or 3 times before it will load. It seems almost as though when I click on a link, that's what causes the WiFi to turd out on me. Anywho, onto the logs.

My brand new flex 5 has connected to my home Internet but won't give me browsing capabilities.  Keep getting an error message ...."The DNS server isn't responding". Note as well that several other devices are connected to same network, browsing and downloading. I've used my phone as a hotspot and was able to browse and download a few files. What do I need to do to resolve this? I also am unable to sign into Lenovo Vantage, keeps saying I'm no longer unless or that my date and time are incorrect.

I am on a Win 7 based computer. New apt, new internet connection. Old router.
Connects to net fine with an ethernet cable.
Connects to the wifi signal (strong signal) with password authentication BUT no internet access.
All my laptops are experiencing the same issue- so it does not appear to be related to the computer.
I then connected the ethernet cable to a Linksys E2000. Again, good signal, clear connection BUT no internet access.
What can I do??
IPCONFIG/ALL>myTCP.txt did not produce any results in DOS (why??)
Thanks in advance.....

What do you mean the server is creating a web certificate? Why are you not using the previous certificate that was working with the 802.1X setup? If you are using a new certificate, did you register it with the RADIUS server and also install it in each of the new laptops? Who set this up previously?

Hello @jockerydkvist, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! The Forums are a great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community! I understand that you are having an issue with the WiFi, and wanted to assist you! It does not seem like there are any upgrade options for the WLAN Module, however, that may not be necessary.  Try reviewing the following resource, and let me know how it goes: Fix KitKat WiFi Drops on Your Own (Not an HP supported Web site). Please let me know if this information helps you resolve the issue by marking this post as "Accept as Solution", this will help others easily find the information they may be looking for.  Also, clicking the Thumbs up below is a great way to say thanks! Have a great day!

windows 7 installed - setup is:

Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop
AMD 64bit CPU
4gb Ram
500Gb drive
GIGABYTE Aircruiser N300 GN-WS30N-RH 802.11N b/g/n draft 2.0
Draytek Vigor 2820N router

Everything is setup OK - the problem is WIFI connectivity. Seems to be random connection, it will work OK for about 2-3 days, after reboots and sleep on and off. Then suddenly the W7 will claim not to be able to connect - it can see the router and connection, but everytime you hit "connect" it just returns with " unable to connect". Tried rebooting, running troubleshooter, removing connection and adding again, rebooting router(!) - but none work. I have Ubuntu installed on laptop as well - which connects everytime, even when W7 is claiming not to be able to, so I summise that the "network end of things" is OK, but W7 has decided to stop connecting. Very frustrating.
This also happened with a previous WIFI module installed, exactly the same problem, so it must be W7 issue. I have 2 Win XP, 1 Vista Ultimate laptop WIFI and 1 linux box all using the same router - no problems, even when my Dell is unable to connect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'm very close to going back to Vista, and giving up on W7. Which is a shame as W7 is very good otherwise.

I'm Fox. And my computer has been behaving oddly since last night. For some reason when using skype or anything after using skype, the microphone cuts out. What I mean by this is that when you go into recording devices and properties for that device, in the levels tab, it mutes itself. If you adjust the slider and turn the volume back up, it mutes itself again after 1-3 seconds. This happens with three different microphones, 2 USB microphones and the built-in one. The actual audio I receive is fine. It's just the microphone that does this.

I've tried solving this problem on my own and I'll list me attempted solutions here.

I've tried uninstalling the drivers for all of the sound cards and then restarting to reinstall them. No luck.

I've tried adjusting the microphone properties to disallow applications from taking exclusive control of it. No luck.

I've tried downloading the free version of Malwarebytes in order to see if it was a virus. No luck.

All of these I've tried and I'm not sure what to do. I run Windows 10. Another problem that I've been having is that my computer does this odd thing where it refuses to connect to wifi. It says it cannot connect to that network. If I wait a few minutes, it will connect to the network. Other devices don't have this issue. I'm not sure if this is potentially related so I thought I'd list it here as well.

So I want to connect to my schools wifi and I DO NOT want to get a virus from some dumb kid who has a virus on their computer.  If windows firewall is set to public network, is there anyway to virus could spread over the network and install itself onto my laptop without me doing anything?  Does windows firewall block that?  Do I need to install a third party firewall?  Sorry im just really trying not to get a virus and wondering if its possible for the virus to spread right to me.  Thanks!

Hello. I'm having a ton of trouble with a W7 (Home Premium 32 bit) laptop. As per the title, the wifi connection on this machine on my home network is spotty at best. Frequently loses internet connection and is generally very slow, even in the room that the router is in. This is the only device on the network that has problems, and is the only one running Windows, too (one OSX device, two iOS and one Android with no wifi issues). This laptop only uses the 2.4GHz spectrum, though a 5GHz is available.

This is a cable connection through Charter - 60Mbps down, 4Mbps up.

The router is new to the network (1 day) - a TP-LINK WDR-4300. It replaces a WDR-3600 that was RMA'd, and in the interim I put up an old Linksys WNR1000v2 I had laying around, and that worked just fine. The modem is whatever Charter gave me, a basic Arris of some kind.

The laptop in question is using Windows Firewall / Microsoft Security Essentials.

I've made a few changes to the network, sending all of the 2.4GHz traffic to channel 2 in order to avoid interference from a baby monitor and other nearby wireless networks. I am not broadcasting the SSID on the 5GHz band but otherwise have not made any changes to the network. Because the other devices on the network don't seem to have problems, I have tried the diagnose utility for the network on this laptop and it will always restart the laptop's Atheros wireless network adapter and say that the issues have been fixed.

Hi everyone im new here and i wanted to ask about this problem which has recently begun to annoy me
my computer is connected internet via wifi connection and this connection is really good but when i try and use a web browser the pages often work for a little bit but then they stop loading and i have to press reload many times till it finally works a minute or 2 later, and this problem happens to me on IE, Firefox, Opera, Google Chrome all of which have been updated to the latest editions. this problem also seems to be occurring to my real-player downloader but to a lesser extent because it takes longer for it to stop connecting and all my downloads fail. now i know my connection is fine because i also bridge my wireless connection to my local area connection so i can play Xbox live which works with no problems at all.

Hello Everyone.

I am new here and have never really posted on a help forum before. But I am having crippling connection issues and have not found any threads that really represent my specific problem.

I have an ASUS laptop and have been running windows 10 pretty much since it was available without any sort of network problems. However since the large anniversary update my wifi connectivity seems to be somehow weakened. My typical networks I use at home and at work seem to be fine. It's now when trying to connect to hotel, airport, or coffee shop networks that seem to give me trouble. I travel a lot and this is a big deal for me.

For example at the hotel I am currently staying at my iPhone (which I am posting this with) and Samsung tablet are able to detect the hotel wifi and connect without any problems. But my laptop at times cannot even find the network. If I walk around the room with the laptop sometimes I can pick it up briefly I can connect momentarily, only to be dropped immediately when trying to access a website. While my iPhone shows full bars the laptop will only ever show one or two. Indicating that it is somehow weakened.

I have checked an have all the latest drivers. My settings are set to obtainable ip automatically and so forth.

I am not sure if it's related but when I connect and open the network tray icon it shows one bar but the tray icon itself always shows full bars. Very weird.

I have gone through this at every hotel I have stayed... Read more

Firstly, I want to say that I know this is something that should be asked about at my school - and I did. I reached the Tech Office twice, and they said that they have no idea why it doesn't work for me. Anywho, here goes.

There is a wifi connection in my cafeteria that I can pick up on, and it is an "Open" network - and so I try connecting to it. The tech that I called said "after connecting to it, you should be able to open internet explorer - and it will take you to a page that requires your student ID and password - before you can continue on and browse the internet". So, I try connecting to the network. The connection never finalizes. It'll take minutes trying to connect, and yes, I do even have a green bar (strong signal). Then it seems to give up. I've tried using my USB Linksys wifi adapter as well, and I'm only given a message similar to: "Cannot associate with the access point".

To clarify, my internet wifi card DOES work. I'm using it now, at the library. I have tried asking different teachers and students... and have called the Tech Help desk twice - and even updated my wireless driver. Yet, it still does not work. I have a Dell D600 Latitude laptop, if it helps...

Added: I am able to use wifi in the computer lab in a separate building, but it's a different connection and does not have a portal login page of sorts.

I have a work laptop and a desktop at home. When I work from home, I use remote desktop connection to connect to my laptop using my desktop. Today, I've been having nothing but problems.

The connection to my laptop keeps getting lost. Sometimes it will be really slow, or freeze, and then it will lose the connection completely.

I'm not sure why it happens, but I thought I'd try testing a wired connection to see if the problem is with the wifi. Unfortunately, when I set my laptop to a wired connection, the remote desktop connection will not work.

On my desktop, I can see the laptop in the network so I know it's on the same network. And the internet on the laptop works as well.

I've tried rebooting my modem/router, but that didn't seem to help. I also tried rebooting both machines.

So my questions are:

1. What would cause the remote desktop connection to keep getting lost? Could it be wifi related?
2. How can I get the remote desktop connection to work when my laptop is wired in instead of on wifi?

Both machines are running Windows 7 if that matters.

Hi, at school we have a BYOD. I got my sister's old Acer Aspire E1-571. I have the Eset smart security antivirus. I have windows 8 which I am NOT familiar with. My Computer is not letting me connect to the school wifi so i can't go on the internet to do my work. The computer guy at school said that it was my antivirus and that he could put on the free microsoft one instead. so he did. I don't know if he uninstalled my old antivirus at the same time. I really need help so I can start my school work. BTW my school is over an hour away so i have no chance of connecting to their wifi to test. This has to be a guarantee. Thanks so much.
