Picture in Picture (PIP) on computer monitor

Q: Picture in Picture (PIP) on computer monitor

I want to connect my cabletv box HDMI feed to be seen on my computer monitor on only part of my screen while I work on my PC looking at the same (HDMI capable) monitor.
I think I have to get a USB to HDMI converter to plug into my Dell inspiron 5315 computer and then
get a HDMI switcher with PIP to do this. Does this sound right or is there a better way to do this.
Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You have to understand I am just a beginner with computers first off........Ok here is my problem, our house was hit with lightening at both ends during the same storm, yes lightening does strike twice LOL The computer was unplugged but there was still an old phone line still plugged in that my son never unplugged, when the lightening hit the one end of the house it came into the house through the phone line, but all the phones worked it was the jacks that got fried, the lightening bolt that hit the other end of the house bounced off the tree right next to the house, and when we got the surge of power , it messed up my cable booster, and splitters but my computer is fine, it didnt mess with it at all, but my sons computer works and he gets no picture on the screen, his computer is hooked up to the TV but the TV is fine, we changed out the monitor cable, ( a geek told us that was our problem) but it still isnt working, what else should I try ?????? Please help, son is driving me crazy with no computer

I thought its my video card, installed a new video card still no picture. Now I'm getting frustrated, someone told me power supply but my fans on my mobo works also my 2 extra fans work also. Also you can hear the computer booting up. I have a orange light on the power switch on the monitor, also a orange light by the reset button on the case. If anyone can help me with some ideas I'm in total gratitude.

My 9 year old daughter was on the kid's Compaq computer using the "Jumpstart" Web site when she says "the computer started doing something and then the monitor went dark." She thinks there was a message that said something about "internet explorer" right before the monitor went dark. I wonder if what happened was that there was a problem with internet explorer so it "turned off" OR I wonder if the computer was just restarting itself after an automatic download in order for the new stuff to take effect. I think it was highly possible that when the computer started "doing its own thing" that my daughter started clicking keys to try to stop the process not knowing what was going on.

So now here is what I am left with. The green power button on the monitor is not lit and the screen shows nothing. I can turn the computer off by pressing the power button on the tower (I hear one ding). I can turn the computer on by pressing the power button on the tower...I hear the computer power-up, I hear the usual "ta-da-ta-da" and then a few seconds later a "da-da," but the monitor does nothing. After the computer has set for awhile and is quiet, I can move the mouse and hear the computer "wake up," but still see nothing on the monitor.

Do you think my daughter pushed something that is the reason the monitor seems to be "turned off," and if so, what can I try? I understand computers very little so ... Read more

A:Solved: computer starts but no picture on monitor

Hi momathome,

It sounds more like trouble with the physical connections on the monitor, but it is possible something changed on your windows settings. Try disconnecting the monitor cable (the cable that runs from the back of the monitor to the back of the computer) and reconnect it on both ends. You can leave the computer on to see if the display comes back.

If that doesn't work, try booting the computer in Safe Mode to see if this will allow you to get the monitor to come up. Press the power button on your computer to turn it off, then turn it back on. Begin hitting the F8 key on your keyboard repeatedly (don't hold it down) for about 20-30 seconds. Then press enter and give your computer a few minutes to power up.

If your monitor comes back in Safe Mode, things will look really strange. Right-click anywhere on the desktop that does not have an icon, then click on "Properties" in the menu that appears. This should open your display properties. From there, click on the Advanced tab and see what your monitor settings are. If you have more than one monitor that shows up in that window, make sure Monitor 1 is active and set as the "Primary" display. If so, click OK and try restarting the computer.

Hope this helps!

(using public library computer now)
My 15 month old,Compaq computer without warning crashed. All of a sudden there was no picture as i was online. Monitor showed "NO SIGNAL".

I rebooted, same message from monitor. Its got to be the computer as i hooked up the monitor to another computer and it worked. i hooked up another 2nd monitor and no signal, that 2nd monitor worked on another computer too. So knowing its something to do with the Compaq computer,i checked out the "dumb" things it could be:video card unseated inside, loose cables, loose wires, power on,rested the computer overnight..the problem remains...no signal on monitor.

When i now start the computer, the power lights come on including the indicator, flickering light the computer is doing something, but no windows,no bios boot up, appears on the monitor..maybe they are booting up but i cant see it.maybe not. I unhooked the keyboard at some point when i was changing monitors, when i rehooked the keyboard ,the keyboard shows no lights so i assume the boot is not happening at all.

This might mean something,it might not:the 3 weeks before this problem occurred,3 times the "no signal" showed up,i rebooted and had a picture.
3 times my computer froze(for the first times ever),rebooted everything worked. Also lately, at one point i was thinking my dsl modem was on the way out as the little dual-screen icon for a internet connection keep flickering.

Can you see the POST screen to enter back into the BIOS? You may need to go back in with the manual for the PC and make sure everything is properly set. If you used F2 to enter the BIOS, it should work, but you will need to make sure the display setting is supported. If you disable on board video, you will need to get a stand a lone video card to make the change.

I have found this BUG in Micrososft Word 2007, that I consider to be a SERIOUS ISSUE for Microsoft Office Suite.

If you copy an image from a website and paste in the Word file, the image pastes successfully the first time,
but as you go on & paste other images from the site,
the first image is repeated over and over again, in place of other images (which have the same dimensions).
All other text data remain same, the image titles remain same, but only the image is repeated over and over

PLZ SOMEONE...
HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM?

MY MICROSOFT WORD 2007 Spec:
Microsoft? Office Word 2007 (12.0.4518.1014) MSO (12.0.6514.5000)

A:Microsoft Office Word 2007 picture paste Bug *same picture is repeated

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I would not advise pasting images in doc files like that,
I would use ms Paint to paste or save picture as
I would really recommend using the windows snipping tool to get the images that way no bugs are being transferred to the machine or programs,
Then use the Insert image option in word...
It's just a safer way to do an operation,
Cheers.

other option is that someone logged into my outlook and chaged profile picture then it got synced...

I cannot find any information on why or how picture would revert. ( even more so on a specific date )

any ideas or leads ?

Hello newbiew, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Since you Microsoft account is synced by default, then it most likely automatically changed back after syncing.

If you wanted to have the same user account picture for all devices, then changing it for everything should help.

If you only wanted to change it on this PC, then you could turn off syncing for Appearance under "Personalization settings" using the tutorial below.

It turns out that if I download a picture file to the photo app in 8.1, without putting it in a particular pre-existing folder, the file goes into the general area of the app displayed alongside several other non-related pictures. Okay, no problem. But for the life of me, I can't figure out how to then move a single image file into one of the pre-existing folders I had created at an earlier time. If your suggestion is to open both the folder and the picture file side by side on the screen and then click and drag, I have no idea how to do that. Is there no way to right-click the image and find a way to select "move to", or something along those lines; or is there a pull-down menu that I can't find with the app open that contains a command to "move to"?
Any suggestions?
Thanks so much,
Neil

A:How to move a picture file on 8.1 to a picture folder...

Well, you have many options. What you are looking for is this:

Context Menu - Add Copy To Folder and Move To Folder - Windows 7 Help Forums

But you can just copy the pics and paste them into the folder you like.

The side by side is easy too. Just open the source folder and press WIN + Right arrow. Then open the target folder and press WIN + left arrow, Now you can drag and drop from one folder to the other.

Hi, few days ago screen on my notebook Probook 6560b  with discreete GPU 6470M went black.  Monitor does not have any backlight and also there is no picture on it (looking at angle...so it is not faulty backlight). Pulled all devices out (HDD, CD-ROM) but monitor still remains blank (no BIOS screen). On external output (VGA or DP) there is pictrure, but it can not load any Windows (I have dualboot Windows 10 and WindowsXP). In Windows 10 shows error: VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE What failed: atikmpag.sys. In Windows XP, also blue screen with error in atikmpag.sys. So, I booted in SafeMode and remove Radeon HR6470M driver and put Standard VGA driver. Now PC boots to OS, but still only on external monitor. Tried to reinstall drivers, but it always fails with blank screen and PC freeze. With some many tries and restarts, in one moment notebook monitor starts to working again. But only up to next Windows restart.I tried to put new HDD in it and install fresh Windows...but same thing. Booted from live linux distro...only external monitor works. So, as I can see, external monitors on VGA or DP can work but only with generic VGA drivers. OS correctly recognize graphic card, but when driver is installed external monitor also goes blank and windows freezes (not responding on caps/num lock, no longer pingable on network). As in one moment internal monitor went back online it seams that maybe is some bad connections...but where...GPU or video memory? Also tried HP diagnostic... There is no picture on my monitor. Just completely black. Everything is properly connected and everything is turned on and the screen is still black no picture. When I came back to go on my computer I turned on the monitor and there was no picture just black. I moved the mouse to wake the monitor up or the computer up. Nothing worked still black screen. This is unbelievable Maybe Windows 7 is acting up and it's a bug that caused this weird issue. Windows 7 could be the culprit or my computer. I had to turn off my computer completely because the black screen was still there and when I turned my computer back on the monitor was working again I saw a picture. I saw the windows 7 login screen password. Please tell me how and why this happened.

I'm trying to hook up a 32" Emerson TV as monitor to a Windows 10 computer using HDMI.

There is not a video card as such?it is the graphics included on the Intel chip.

The picture is too big for the screen. The first column of icons on the desktop is barely visible and the task bar is almost totally hidden.

The highest resolution available in Display Settings is 1920 x 1080. When I open a window the text is very clear/sharp.
I have not been able to find any way of reducing the size of the picture using the TV/monitor settings.

Q1: How can I reduce the size of the picture so it just fills the screen?

Q2: Can I get a higher resolution than 1920 x 1080?

A:No picture on the monitor

Welcome to the TSG forums...

When the monitor isn't showing anything, it is very difficult to tell if the computer is actually WORKING, or only sitting with the fans making noise, due to some problem you can't see, because the monitor isn't working... If the computer IS working, you should be able to see a (small) light flashing on the front of the system; the Hard Drive Activity Light flashes to indicate that the hard drive is busy working during bootup...

OK, let's figure that the hard drive IS working, and a little light IS flashing on the front of the computer while the system boots up... The MOST likely problem is that the videocard inside the computer has come loose, and is no longer making good contact in the slot where it is installed on the motherboard. You MIGHT be able to resolve this by removing the cover from the computer, and trying to reseat the videocard. You will recognize it because it is the card the monitor is plugged into...

Do NOT remove the cover while the system is running; SHUT DOWN and UNPLUG THE COMPUTER before you work on it. Failure to do this can mean serious problems for you, and damage to your system...

It is ALSO possible that something else has come loose inside the computer, though most times, you should hear a series of "beeps" when that happens. However, if your system does NOT have an internal speaker, you won't hear any beeps...

Truth be told, there are a MULTITUDE of reasons why you could be havin... Read more

Power light blinks blue but no picture. I swapped it out with CRT monitor with no issues on the CRT monitor. How hard is it if I fix it myself? Whats the name of the part I need to fix this and where to buy the part?

A:No Picture on LCD Monitor

From the info you provided, it's hard to exactly tell what is wrong with your monitor. Most likely you have some capacitors or some transistors that have "burnt up" (failed). You have the blinking light which means that you are still getting some power to it, but not the full amount needed. Looking up the information on the monitor, it is from either 2007 or 2008. My best suggestion is to get a new one. This is not something that is quick and simple to fix. Most of the time when something like this happens, you have to unsolder parts and then solder new parts back on to the board. Also, finding available parts for the monitor might create another challenge. If you are comfortable with this type of repair work, then take the cover off and start looking for "burnt" parts.

I have an oldish dual core PC , EP41-UD3L motherboard , 4 gig ram , GTX 260 running XP .

I stopped using it a couple of years ago and gave it to my dad , its sat gathering dust so I decided to set it up for him to use . It had 3 HDD in it , the main one I have in my new PC as a slave , currently in it is one IDE and one SATA HDD . I unplugged the IDE drive and got ready to re-install windows.

Problem is theres no picture on the monitor , I tried another monitor , same story, I put another graphics card in , same story . You cant plug a monitor into the motherboard so I assume theres no built in GPU. The PC ran fine for me last time I used it about 18 moths ago , the memory was removed but I put some more in.

Really got no idea what to do as with no picture I cant do anything and I'm stumped. I can't tell if everything/anything else is working without a picture , all the fans are going , all the motherboard LED lights are on. I can't hear any beeps at all when switching the PC on.

I havent built a PC for years or messed around with them but am I correct in thinking that even if the memory isnt working or the HDD ishould still get a picture? . Kind of hard to do anything without a picture.

Can a monitor lose its "crisp and clearness" after so long. I have some older monitors on new machines with the refresh rate maxed. Is there anything else I can do with it or is served its time and needs to be thrown out?

A:Monitor picture clearness

You can try adjusting the contrast & brightness, as I've seen many monitors where users turn them both all the way up and that often causes the pixels to blossom which results in a bright but blurry screen. Though many older cheaper monitors dim so much they have to turn them all the way up, so at that point it's time for a new one. In environments where florescent lighting is used you often need more brightness to overcome the overhead glare, which results in shorter lifespan of the CRT.

Is it true that the picture size of a 15" lcd monitor is about the same size as a 17" crt?

A:lcd vs crt monitor picture sizes

Hi, plschwartz

It is pretty close, because unlike a CRT monitor, an LCD doesn't cover part of the screen with a bezel.

One thing to remember about LCD screens, however, is that they have a " Native resolution" ( depending on the size of the LCD) and generally do not look good at any other resolution.

Hello, I am trying to use my TV as a monitor for my computer. I have a GeForce 7950 and an Olevia TV. It has VGA and HDMI but I am trying to use the componet cables from my video card. The blue, green, and red ones. It shows up but everything is blue and white. The colors aren't coming in right at all. I have checked that they are matched correctly multiple times. I was wondering what I may be able to do to fix the problem? I have also tried reinstalling the video drivers. I would like to see if there is any way to fix this using the cables and not having to get a VGA cable.

A:TV picture for monitor"?

It is possible that there may be some type of "component video" type difference. The controller may be outputting Y,Pr,Pb signals while TV is expecting RGB signals.

It may be rather difficult for someone here to help troubleshoot your problem without knowing the exact brand and model number of the video controller card (I believe that GeForce 7950 refers only to the graphics ICs on the card) as well as the model number of the Olevia TV.

Hello All,
Yesterday I was surfing the internet, not doing much of anything, no new updates, no new driver or hardware or software installs, just a slow day checking the forums. Everything seemed normal so I leave the computer to go do something for about an hour. When I come back and pressed the space bar (that is how I wake up my computer) the computer fires up but there is no picture on my monitor. It is dead. So I restart the computer and I can get the BIOS screen on the monitor, and I can navigate through the BIOS screen and on start up I can see the Windows emblem on the monitor, but after that it goes black again. So I dig out my old monitor and hook it up and it works perfectly. My main screen is a Samsung S24D360 hooked up by HDMI to my motherboard, I have no graphics card. My old monitor is a 19 inch HP hooked up by DVI-D. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Intel Graphics driver, I got a different HDMI cable off of my Blu Ray player and tried that, I scanned for malware and everything, but still no signal on my main monitor. I need help to figure this out. Thanks.

A:Please Help, No Picture On My Main Monitor

I just booted in safe mode and I got identical video in both monitors. I am beginning to think that this is NOT an HDMI handshake problem but it is something else. I just don't know what to do at this point.

I own an acer aspire e360 from 2002ish on windows xp professional. It has run without any real problems till just now. Upon normal browsing (nothing ram or memory intensive, no new browsers, no new hardware), the computer "randomly" flashed a bsod. The bsod flashed for too short of a time for me to copy down the error code. After this, the computer rebooted and the monitor receives no signal. The other connections all receive power. After a few seconds of the computer being on, any keyboard input leads to what seems like a restatt judging from the noises from the fan. However, the monitor displays no picture and receives no signal. My best guess is the computer is restarting into a bluescreen. Therefore, by "pressing any key" I am rebooting.

I have tried removing all connections except the power, keyboard, and monitor to the same end. I also tried installing a different monitor with no success. I tried booting into safe mode via f8 multiple times without seeing bios or any signal.
What seems to be the problem?
Thanks in advance.

A:bsod=>no monitor picture?

Hi .

The first thing I would suggest checking is...all connections.

If you have a separate video card (it's not onboard video), then I suggest removing the video card and reseating it. If it's onboard video, then I would (because I have spare components lying around my apartment) try a video card in lieu of the onboard. In such cases, I have to make sure that I have the appropriate video card type that matches up with my motherboard.

The only way that I approach troubleshooting a lack of video on a system...is to try to assure myself that other likely suspects (power supply, RAM, hard drive) can be moved to another system and actually work there.

When I'm sure that the above components/functions are working properly...and I still have a problem...I move on to the hard stuff (CPU, motherboard) as suspects. My experience-level doesn't allow me to do much with these, so I just take the troubled system to a local computer shop (I trust) and ask them to check it out for me.

So, my friend just got a new monitor for his computer. It's an emachines T6410 and has XP and a 3200+ AMD Athlon 64 processor. The monitor is an LG Flatron and when we hooked it up to his computer and turn it on, I'm not sure, but I think the computer isn't sending any signal to the monitor. Because the monitor turns on and the blue light comes on, then the LG symbol comes up, but after that it says power saving mode. It won't show anything else, it just stars hibernating.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm kinda stumped.

Hello, I need somebody's advice on how to get the max performance out of my PIONEER KURO plasma 60" flatscreen. As many of you know hi-def 1080 is not powerful enough for these $5000 monitors so I would like to use a video card instead to give this engine the fuel it needs to run correctly. I don't watch cable or reg television I strictly watch prerecorded sporting events, movies etc. Here's the catch I will be running it from a slim chassis pc only so I need a very powerful vid card that must fit the narrow chassis design. Hi-Def means Hi-Def and the awful picture quality of anything over 50" is a discrace. At least if there is a Unit that was ever made to look the part the Pioneer was it , so anyone who could bring out the potential of the 6020 FD , please share your thoughts!   VeeDandy

A:I have $5000 monitor with $50 picture HELP ??

First off there are many models.
Pioneer PDP-6020FD 60-Inch Class KURO Plasma HDTV (2009 Model) ??
High-Definition 1080p Resolution (1920 x 1080p)
1080 Progressive Image Reproduction with ability to accept 480i/480p/720p/1080i/1080p signals
You did not say what OS or what dell model.
Without full specifications there is no help.

My monitor picture is shrinking. It has several fine lines along the top of the picture if I change the screen resolution to much smaller vertically the picture is shorter but the lines go away. any suggestions or is this a bad sign??

A:monitor picture shrinking

check cables, download and install latest video drivers, check there are no large speakers/magnets near the monitor (if it is a CRT) if that doesn't help get a new monitor.
