Computer freezing, firefox freezing

Q: Computer freezing, firefox freezing

I don't know what else to say other than my computer has been freezing and firefox has been freezing lately. I called the manufacturer and he said to restore windows to factory settings, so I did that. Things were great for a week or so, but recently my computer has begun freezing again. It happens pretty frequently. Firefox will also freeze when trying to get it to do very little work, like loading two tabs simultaneously, e.g. My AVS found a suspicious file recently and quarantined it, but still, the freezing has continued. Please advise.

And I do not think that I have a Boot CD

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi All,

Having issue with my pc and not sure what is up. I suspect I have some sort of virus. Everything was fine until a couple of days ago when I opened firefox and the pc just froze. I tried Ctrl+Alt+Delete to see what was goin on and close firefox but the pc would not respond. After a couple of mins I forced a shutdown with the power button and restarted. Same thing happened when I tried firefox again but after a few mins MS Security Essential popped up saying it was not turned on. I forced another shutdown and the same thing happened again however I then got a blue screen saying some serious problem with my computer. I think I may have picked something of my work server as I was connected to the VPN that day and some mailware attacked our website at work and it has not been detected yet.

I have scanned with MS security Essential which detected 5 viruses and Mailwarebytes which didnt pick up anything else.

I am using Chrone browser at the moment which does seem slow also but at least it works.

Anyhow, hopefully someone can advise on what to do next. Thanks

I have gotten plenty of viruses, some were able to be removed with a free anti-virus but most haven't, for the pesky viruses I turn to http://yourpcoptimizers.com to remove them. Hope I've helped.

Hello, I've been having problems with firefox lately (v. 24): every time I open a few tabs it starts to freeze intermittently and sometimes it'll just freeze the whole computer altogether.

When I say freeze intermittently, I mean the whole computer starts hiccuping. The whole computer will freeze for about 2-3 seconds then resume, then freeze for another 2-3 seconds and resume. Usually until firefox then it stops.

It happens most often when I have flash tabs open like youtube, but it most recently happened with just my hotmail tab, and a tab for my online banking login page.

Could this be a driver conflict?

I was on chrome for more than a week and haven't had any problems, yet when I open firefox for the first time in over a week it freezes soon after I have even just a couple tabs open.

I'm not sure if it's just a particular type of stie (interactive ones) that crashes it or if it's having multiple tabs open.

Firefox also uses massive amounts of memory I've noticed. Like over a 1g for just something like 10 tabs.

Thanks for the help,
Blue

Hello friends.  My problem is not unique but it is frustrating.  My computer is slowing down and then freezing, usually in Firefox but also in IE.  Even after closing Firefox my computer continues to run slow unless I restart.

My computer: HP running Windows 7 Professional, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, T9300 @ 2.50 GHz, 2GB RAM, 64 bit operating system.

What I've tried so far: running my virus software (Webroot), running Malwarebytes (free version), cleaning computer vents, clearing all cache and temporary file folders, running disk defragmenter, reducing the number of programs that start.

The problem occurs most commonly when I am in Facebook or Instagram, or have several windows open at once in Firefox. However, my computer still runs slow even when I am doing simple surfing.

I did a quick perusal of your posts for similar situations, but everybody seemed to be approaching the fix in different ways so thought I had better post my issue to get a clear starting point.

Thanks for your time.

John

Lately, I have been having issues with Firefox freezing and giving me 'script is not responding' issues. This is a relatively new laptop to me and probably needs a LOT of cleaning up.  FF will freeze at random moments and I can't do anything. Then it will eventually return to normal. Sometimes I get the script error and other times I don't.  This is the only issue I have had and it's getting worse with time.

I'd appreciate any help

I recently built my first PC three days ago...
Specs:
i7 bloomfield 960 processor
4x4 vengeance ram
crosair hx850 PSU
evga x58 ftw3 mobo
hd 6870 radeon graphics xfx

When I first installed windows it started to work just fine but I soon noticed that it would randomly freeze every 15-30 minutes of use, but not on a particular program or anything. I assumed it was drivers so I installed the latest drivers for my GPU and MOBO and keyboard. It seemed fine again until it started crashing again. I ran a GPU burn test and a CPU burn test it passed both... (I tried runing memtest86+ but it froze at like 12%) Then I tried fixing the registry so I downloaded ccleaner and fixed the registry problems. Freezes continued. I finally decided to re install windows so I did and the problems still continued. I am at a loss of what to do and can't think of anything else.

any advice would be appreciated if not I will bring to a repair shop and have them sort it out.

A:Newly built computer random freezing and freezing on starting windows

Hello Skytri and welcome to Seven Forums. My usual disclaimer: I'm not at expert at anything.

I'm wondering if there isn't a RAM problem. Perhaps one of the sticks wasn't seated properly, etc. You could open Resource Monitor > Memory tab and make sure all RAM is being recognized. Make sure Installed = 16384MB and the Available + Cached + Hardware Reserved is the same amount. (You are using 16GB total, correct?)

Resource Monitor

If Memtest freezes you could try a quick check for a bad RAM module. Install one stick in Slot # 1 (or whichever slot the mobo manual says to use.) Run the computer to test for freezes. Test each of the remaining sticks one at a time. If all 4 sticks work you might want to go through these troubleshooting guides. They are time consuming but many people have been able to isolate their computer problems.

Hello,

I'm going to post two different scenarios that happens when my computer needs a hard restart
My computer freezes completely (literally no movement on the screen or anything, it's not slow it's frozen). And an extremely loud buzzing sound comes out of my headphones or speakers. The same thing as above except without the loud buzzing noise.

I saw that this happened to someone else who had both the speakers and the headphones plugged in at the same time. However, scenario #2 just happened to me 10 minutes ago even though I only had my headphones plugged in.

I built this computer six months ago and it's the first computer I've ever built. I assume it's a driver issue but I can't really pinpoint the problem since no BSOD appears on the screen and I have no higher computer knowledge.

I'm attaching the zip file required.

Thanks,

A:Random Computer Freezing - Need to hard restart after freezing No BSOD

Wow, this sounds like the same thing that happened to a friend of mine when his hard drive was failing. Replaced the drive and the freezes went away. Even the buzzing noise.

Also you may need to look at what drivers you may have just install/updated.

Hoping you don't have any failing hardware "Motherboard, video card, etc". Those are expensive

Hello.

Personally, I think you should click on the "report" link of your post and ask the moderator to move your thread to the malware removal forum, to be certain that the malware is gone.

It is possible that the programs you listed have missed a nasty piece of malware.

Hello, I'm having an issue with my computer.

My computer has started to restart/freeze up on me. The thing is, it has graphical issues once it freezes/tries to reboot. I get all these lines through the screen, graphical glitches when trying to go through the BIOS, etc. The computer isn't too slow, it isn't acting strange, the only thing that is wrong is the obvious freezing/restarting with graphical lines and glitches once it freezes.

My video card has been going out for a long time(I share a computer with a few people and they seem to think the video card is ok, but I have always seen small glitches in graphics here and there), so I am thinking maybe this might be a problem, given the graphical glitches, the horizontal lines going through the screen once it freezes.

When it hits the BIOS, it sometimes shows these same lines with the screen going mostly black.

System specs are:

CPU - Core 2 Duo, speed I don't remember.

Video Card - Geforce 7900 GT 512mb

Ram - 2GB DDR2

Motherboard - Asus, P5N-E SLI

I got this computer a few years back and I am not one to keep updated with specs or talk about them often, so I have forgotten the speed of the CPU and I do not know if I am missing information for you guys.

Solutions I have tried:

Overheating - I used air to filter out all dust/dirt that might be there to harm the computer, I have plenty of fans in there, etc.

Any and all help will be appreciated, Thank you.

A:Solved: Computer Freezing/freezing/graphical glitchs

If you're getting graphical 'glitches' while in bios, that's usually a good sign that your graphics card is having issues - however, I have seen this happen with faulty ram. I'd recommend reseating the cards (ensure your computer is off and unplugged whilst doing so) and see if that helps

A:Computer Freezing; Slowing Down. But mostly freezing. I have my HiJackThis! Log File.

I don't see anything in your log or your description of your problem to come to the conclusion that your problem is malware related. When there is malware present there will always be other internet related symptoms like popups or a browser hijack etc...

I will advise you to uninstall Microsoft Anti-Spyware as the version you have is very old and no longer supported. It in now called Windows Defender.

Here are some routine maintenance practices that you should do on a regular basis to keep your machine running efficiently. Go through this now and see if it helps:

Disk Cleanup:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/disk_cleanup_utility.htm

Defrag your HD:

http://artsweb.bham.ac.uk/artsit/Info/Guides/GoodPractice/defrag-win2kxp.htm

Run chkdsk:

To use Chkdsk, click Start and My Computer. Right-click the hard drive you want to check, and click Properties. Select the Tools tab and click Check Now. Check both boxes. Click Start. You'll get a message that the computer must be rebooted to run a complete check. Click Yes and reboot. Chkdsk will take awhile, so run it when you don't need to use the computer for something else.

Remove unnecessary startups

This should be done through the System Configuration Utility. Go to Start > Run and type in msconfig.
Click OK or hit the Enter key.

Click on the "Startup" tab and remove the check by the items that you have determined are unnecessary. Click "Apply" then "Close"

You will be prompted to ... Read more

The computer when running slowly makes a ton of noise starting up and running and tends to use more processing. The computer sometimes makes weird noises that aren't normal windows sounds and come from error's. Like intense beeping noises ocassionally. Firefox especially is insanely slow and the longer I run it the more processing power it uses up along with the plugins.exe. Sometimes it will uses so much that it completely freezes my computer. Lately I've also been having trouble starting the computer where it won't even load windows.

I've ran Ccleaner daily and Malwarebytes weekly and find nothing and the problem has been getting progressively worse. I have Avast which updates daily.

Hello!

I'll just get straight to this..

I've never really had any problems with my computer before that my subscription to Norton couldn't really handle but my subscription to that has run out and I think I've been infected with something pretty serious!

I have windows XP.
I'm getting an unusual amount of random pop ups that I've never experienced before coming from websites I frequently visit.
When Google searching on Firefox I'm being redirected to blank pages transferring data from "adwarefeed.com" and "doubleclick"
My Computer is also crashing at random times, sometimes on boot up after the windows XP loading screen it'l just go to a black screen with my mouse able to freely move about it making me have to restart!
I've downloaded a few programs to try and sort my computer out, like SDFIX, ATF Cleaner and Giant AntiSpyware, they have all found stuff and were able to successfully remove them but they still have not sorted out the problem!

I also downloaded MBAM, but when i click on setup to try and install it, after choosing my language it automatically closes down. I've also tried to rename it but that hasn't worked either! it wont let me change the type of file to BAT or anything!
I also cannot access there website!

Any help would be much appreciated! thank you x

when i close out of Firefox normally, the CPU for firefox.exe will jump to 99 and my computer will freeze. when i play computer games, (steam) my computer will run slowly during, very slowly immediately after. after the game completely closes, my computer will still run slower than usual but not as slow as immediately after i close the game.

here is my current hijackthis log.. if you need me to scan anything else or post other logs, please tell me so.

Recently Mozilla Firefox has been acting kind of strange. It either randomly crashes, or it freezes up and goes to not-responding till it decides to crash. My computer in whole has been acting pretty sluggish. I ran Microsoft Security Essentials and Spybot Search and destroy and neither found anything wrong, but the problem still happens.

Thanks ahead of time.

Hopefully I have the right section. I have a few problems that I hope to get help with.

My computer is starting slowly. I don't notice it so much but when checking my performace information it says that startup programs are causing windows to slow. When I clicked to see what the program was it it says:

Onecare firewall service
msfwsvc.exe.
Date reported March 24 2009.

Can I remove it from the list or is it needed?

Also, when I clicked on the event log, I was getting a lot of critical, warnings and errors reported. Most of them are in regards to event id 100 boot performance monitoring and event id 200 shutdown performance monitoring. There are other event id numbers as well but these are the main ones. I am not entirely too sure what they mean or how to fix them.

Finally, my firefox is freezing alot and I am getting a lot of non-responses from it. Pages such as Myspace are taking a long time to load and then will freeze. At times, it will take 30 secs-a few minutes to load and if it freezes it takes a little while for it to come good or I will just close Firefox and start again. Having more than one tab open also seems to make it freeze alot more than it used to.

I didn't expect to have so much trouble since my laptop is fairly new. I am using a Vista service pack 2.

Any help is appreciated.
Thank you.

Hello!

I have this problems for quite some time now. Now I realized that this same problem also has my coworker. Because I dont know how to solve this, I post here. This is problem description that occurs on both computers:

After running Firefox for a while, computer suddenly becomes totally unresponsive. Sometimes this is immediately after bootup, sometimes later. Closing Firefox via Task Manager does not help. Internet does not work anmyore with other browsers (IE), email also does not work. Only solution is to reboot computer. When rebooting, computer pops up some End Now messages, however then pops up this message for XPCom: Event Receiver. When you click End Now button, computer suddenly becomes responsive and reboots with normal speed. So this is the cause of problems. How can I solve this?

Thank you!

Hello,

I am having a few problems with my maching that I want to get resolved.

Firstly, I keep getting a some IE7 popups when I am logged on to firefox. These popups are usually related to whatever page I'm on in fireforx (i.e. if I'm on nfl.com on firefox, the IE7 pop-up will be something about sports). I don't use internet explorer and recently started using Chrome to combat this problem but Firefox is my preferred browser.

Second, my Firefox keeps freezing when I do try to use it and it has gotten progressively worse over the past week. Previously, I could use firefox despite the IE7 pup-ups but now firefox usually freezes or hangs for a few minutes. It seems to be working now as I am using Firefox to post this message.

Thanks for any help you can lend me.

Hi,

With the above problems suddenly appearing, I have done the following:
Disk Clean
Defrag (even though the system said it wasn't necessary at this time)
McAfee Full System Scan (no problems found)
AVG Antivirus Full System Scan (a few problems found and successfully removed)
Spybot Full Scan (problems successfully removed)
Spyzooka 2.5 Full Scan (problems successfully removed)

Running the following:
Windows Defender
Spyware Guard
AdWare

I have also run msconfig and unchecked start-up programs that aren't needed, this seemed to help a lot, but the system still locks up after a while.

I also created a new Firefox profile as I have read that "old" profiles will tend to slow down after time. This help with the subsequent first couple of browser opens, but has again slowed down.

A:Computer Slow, Freezing, and Firefox slow

Hello and welcome to TSF.

You are running two antivirus applications, i.e. AVG and McAfee.

While this may seem like greater protection, it can cause problems including slowdowns and system hangs. Keep one and uninstall the other.

Any antivirus program must be removed via add/remove program.
For any program that doesn't have an add/remove entry, you will have to do this:
re-install the program -> reboot -> uninstall

As stated in our pre-posting sticky...NEW INSTRUCTIONS - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help

Quote:

3. Uninstall the following via Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel:
? If you have more than one antivirus software installed, leave only ONE and uninstall the others.

If you're still having issues, please provide the logs requested in the above sticky.

Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don?t hear from you in three days this thread will be closed.

I've been a long time user of Firefox, but just recently it has started to freeze up on some pages - mostly Java related pages - and require me to go into task manager, end process, and start it up again. If I just exit out, it gives me a notification that Firefox is already running when I start it again. For now I've switched to IE, though I detest the design and layout. At least it works consistently and won't freeze.

I don't believe that it's a problem with my particular installation, since I have 2 pcs running XP and Vista that both have the same problem, on the same sites - and IE doesn't have a problem with the sites. If there is a fix, it would be very helpful... For now, I'm stuck with the craptacular IE.

For example, this site works perfectly with IE, but when I try to go to it in Firefox, I just get a blank white screen and nothing in firefox that has to do with browsing works. (Stop loading, search bar, history, favorites) Stuff like View>Toolbars reacts when I click, but no menu comes up either. Essentially frozen...

A:Firefox keeps freezing...

I've just viewed your link in Firefox and it works fine. The 6 java applets are hidden because I use the NoScript addon to block javascripts, but nothing unusual apart from that.

Have you tried creating a new Firefox profile or running in Firefox Safe Mode? (not Windows Safe Mode )

Which version of java do you have installed? Have you tested it? http://www.javatester.org/version.html

EDIT: When I set NoScript to allow java for 'northpark.edu', the screen stays white and crashes Firefox. I also noticed it prevents my mouse wheel from scrolling, so it might be a problem with the site/code. File/Exit and the 'X' Close button don't work now so I had to close Firefox using Task Manager.

Did you create this webpage and the java applets?

I will try to summarize my problem as efficiently as possible:

About a week ago my computer started giving me problems specifically in Firefox when I type in an input box. Also anytime I would go to a site, it would load, then pause and the site shows up.

As I just mentioned, when I type in an input box (such as the search bar for google, or a username and password field), after I press the first key the browser freezes (sometimes stops responding) for a brief moment and then continues normally.

I talked with a few people and ran some basic memory tests (using memtest) which found no errors however, windows memory diagnostic does say there are hardware errors.

I ran malwarebytes which gave me a couple of entries that could be problems: one i would rather not mention this site and the other for anydvd. I decided to fix the problems and after the reboot Vista would not load. I used recovery mode console to do bootfix /fixboot and rebooted. I then got a bluescreen followed by a reboot and again used recovery mode to do a startup repair. Eventually I was able to get Vista to load but the problem with using firefox still remains.

After looking around and posting on another forum, someone directed me to combofix which, unfortunately, I could not get to run (either in recovery mode via console or in windows environment).
I am now in the process of running Kaspersky online scanner.

I have a W7Pro computer, SP1, 4GB RAM, Intel Core i3-2120 CPU, @3.3GHz

Using Firefox 57.0.2

My wife has taken a liking to watching Netflix videos, and often, if she has something to do, pauses the video, leaving Netflix open while she goes about her activities.

If I go online (same computer) when Netflix is paused, I often experience a browser freeze, and have to resort to control-alt-delete to open taskmgr and shut down Firefox. Typically, I'll see 5 processes open and just start forcing them off until they're all gone.

My son tells me he has problems with his laptop when watching Netflix on it, rather than using his tv to access Netflix. Both of us have Samsung smart televisions, which can access Netflix. I haven't tried that yet, but if it works, I'm going that direction.

Any suggestions?

My boss' computer at work has some kind of funny lag and freezing happening, but only with two sites (foxnews.com and facebook). Flash and Java have both been updated, and the only other plugins / extensions installed are NoScript, Ad block plus, and quicktime.  I've tried disabling all his plugins and extensions and still get the same results. Whenever a link is clicked, on either site, the browser hangs for 2 - 5 seconds before finally loading the new page.  The loading animation starts and then freezes. It's an Intel dual core 2.5 ghz cpu, with 2 GB RAM running Windows 7. The only thing I can think of is he might need to upgrade his RAM, but I don't want to go out and spend $40 for 2 GB of RAM if anybody has any other suggestions, besides switching to a different browser. I actually haven't checked to see how IE or Chrome work on his computer, but I've finally gotten him used to Firefox, and his girlfriend can't seem to keep the computer from becoming infected if IE is available (I've deleted all the shortcuts to it). I've run scans with Malwarebytes and AVG and both come up clean everytime, for the last two months, and Malwarebyte's logs show nothing during it's normal schedule scans. I've tried numerous tweaks for firefox to try to limit the amount of RAM it's using, but it still ends up around 400MB + after just a few minutes of browsing. Any ideas?Edit: Moved topic from Web Browsing/Email and Other Internet Applications... Try starting Firefox in safe mode which runs Firefox without any extensions.

If that solves the problem then it's a matter of narrowing down which extension is causing the problem.

I have a problem with my IE 6.0 and Firefox recently.
On any website which has a password box, after I input anything in the password box, then when I press submit button, IE will be freezing, it happens to Firefox also. I scanned my PC with avira ant-virus, Eset nod32 anti-virus, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware, and I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, I also did windows update, but I still can't fix this problem. The wire thing is I installed Google chrome, and so far it doesn't have this problem.
(I even made a new HTML page which only includes a password box and a submit button, and tested it, the same problem happened)
My operating system is Windows XP sp3, IE6.0 and Firefox 3.60
Because a program in my PC needs IE6.0, I can't upgrade it to IE8.0.

I have been using firefox for the longest time, and just about a week or so ago it began to continually have the start page open every new window.
From there, when I began to use the Google bar on the top right, it will freeze the whole PC!!!
I have reinstalled it (not leaving any files, passwords, etc. behind) now 2+ times, and still it freezes.

I have also went through my Add-ons.

I have now also tried using Google Chrome, and the same thing happens!!

In regards to viruses, I have ran Maleware-Bytes, Spybot- Search & Destroy & AVG 9.0 and all have found nothing.

I'm really getting sick of how slow Firefox is. I've been a long time Firefox user but I don't know if I can take it anymore. There's times where it runs good but recently, it just freezes constantly and I can't type on websites without constant lag. Yes, I usually have quite a few programs open but I have 16gb of ram and a AMD FX 8350 cpu (watercooled) on a Asus M5A97 R2.0 motherboard along with SSD for my drives.

Firefox run's usually around 180,000k - 240,000k but can go as high as 300,000k - 350,000k accordingly to Task Manager. I have quite a few programs that run higher than that and perform better.

Any personal experiences like this with Firefox and solutions? Maybe common issues?
Please try to avoid just posting links with a long list of troubleshooting steps, I've went through quite a few of them.

A:Firefox Always Freezing

Beyond the standard reply to make sure that you're running the latest version of Firefox with your  plug ins updated to the most recent available it's a little difficult to make any kind of blanket suggestion that will work in every situation because my changes would only apply running the same extensions which is highly unlikely.

After asking on several forums the reply was almost always to fo through everything on this list paying special attention to the steps to concerning Firefox running slow and Hanging on certain sites:

Troubleshooting Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/firefox/fix-problems

Running slow: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-slow-how-make-it-faster
Not Responding/Hanging: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-hangs-or-not-responding

Outside the other steps listed on troubleshooting Firefox you can tweak it further by restarting in Safe Mode and then activating each extension individually to see which might be the biggest culprit to your overall issues: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode

Hopefully with a little time you'll have it tuned to where it's best overall

System specs are:

Please don't run ComboFix without using the advice of an expert. Our anti-malware experts hang out here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/103/am-i-infected-what-do-i-do/What type of infection was the unmentionable one? A trojan, a virus, adware, a cookie, etc?I'd suggest running the Memtest again, and this time let it run overnight. The problem sounds like a software problem, but the memory error in the Windows diagnostic is a concern. But, since your problems are limited to Firefox, I'd suspect that the memory test was a false reading.I would suggest going over to the Am I Infected forum ( http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/103/am-i-infected-what-do-i-do/ ) to check and see if this is a malware issue. If not, post back here and we'll work on the Windows issues.

Yesterday i was installing some extensions, such as linkification, and after that, when i tried to open firefox (1.0.4), it would show a blank screen, a blank address bar, and my bookmark toolbar was completely gone. At first i thought it was only frozen, but i could click on the top to close, minimize, and move it, etc. If i click on one of the buttons such as refresh, they don't work or even make an animation that they work. I also cannot click on the address bar. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it a few times, and even tried system restore, but those didn't help. Sometimes I'll try to open firefox, and the window won't even come up. I've run out of ideas on what to do.

I have a new 64 bit HP desktop with Intel i7 technology, running Vista 64 Home Premium SP2. It came with Internet Explorer7, 32 and 64 bit versions. Well, I'm a Firefox fan, so I installed it thinking the box should run 32 bit apps. It did for a few minutes, then promptly froze the machine to the point of having to hold down the power button until the box turned off. No other way out; no combination of keystrokes or any other input device would work.

I mentioned this to a friend at work, and he said that he'd had a similar experience with his 64 bit laptop, but running 32 bit Vista. After uninstalling Firefox, he ended up doing a Regedit search for firefox, and deleted the entries, then went back to IE7 and that seemed to work for a while. He still has random problems with IE hanging up (the spinning "busy circle"), but he doesn't have to "jerk the plug out of the wall" to get back online, but a reboot is necessary. He updated to IE8 and that seemed to work for a while, but it didn't last.

I did the same thing on my 64 bit box, and am having the same results. I also did a clean up with Ccleaner, but apparently there is something else going on. I'm thinking that I will probably have to re-install windows and do the updates over again. Has any one heard of this? I thought I was "future proofing" myself by getting 64 bit, but I may have "present proofed" myself for a while!

I have subsequent... Read more

I know quite a few people who have had trouble with their browser addons causing stability issues in vista 64. ( AVG in particular)

Try running your browser with add ons disabled.

I did run firefox on this setup (vista 64) for a couple of weeks with no problems, but prefer internet explorer.

Recently Firefox has started to freeze up. I am using 3.6.2 since one of my iGoogle gadgets wont work with newer versions of Firefox in my desktop PC. I have tried and had to go back to 3.6.2 to get one of them to work. Until just recently I never had this problem. The gadget will work with Firefox 4 in my HP laptop though, go figure that one. I noticed just yesterday that Safari also froze up, this is the first time I noticed that one. Now I donít normally use any other browser than Firefox. Is this maybe a Win 7 problem? I also found that if it freezes you can go to bookmarks and go to a different web site and it will do that and then you can close it. If you donít do that you have to go to Task Manager to close it.

hi, welcome to TSG.
Save hijack this to it's own folder such as c:\ hijack this so that it runs
properly and can make back ups. Click scan then save the log
and post it here so we can take a look at it for you.

your log looks clean apart from this entry. Have hijack this fix it.

O23 - Service: Ati HotKey Poller - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\system32\Ati2evxx.exe (file missing)

try running these tools see if it helps, but you may have to uninstall Firefox and reinstall it. you can save your bookmarks before uninstalling firefox if the cleaning up doesn't help and then import them back into firefox when you reinstall it?
go to this site and download these tools and once you get both
adaware and spybot, update both of them.

Set adaware to do a full system scan and deselect, "search for neglible risk entries".
Click next to start the scan.Delete everything adaware finds.

reboot and now run spybot

Spybot: Search and destroy.

Delete what spybot finds marked in red. After updating spybot hit the immunize
button.

reboot again
With CWshredder close all browsers and programmes and select the FIX button.

Go here and download Microsoft Antispyware Beta. First in the top menu click File then Check for updates to download the definitons updates.

After updating look in the right side of the main window under "Run Quick Scan Now" and click Spyware scan options. In that window put a tick by Run a full system scan and then put a check by all three ... Read more

I think I might have some kind of malware or something. My Firefox browser seems to freeze up every thirty minutes or so for 10-15 seconds. I then get a popup saying that there is a problem with Dell support center and it needs to close down. Otherwise everything seems to be working okay. I've run Avast antivirus and Malwarebyte's anti-malware and both have come up clean. I would appreciate any help you can give.

Also, now I'm having issues with youtube. Every time I play a video I get a popup saying "Error:BVDcore.videoFormats is undefined"

I just finished getting helped by Ried and I had thought the problem was resolved but apparently something is still going on.

AIM takes a few seconds to display the text that I type on the screen and just froze my entire computer for 8 minutes. Also, firefox freezes for a second for no reason. Say, I'm streaming from Netflix in one tab and then I click on the other tab to check my email or post this, the video pauses for a second or two each time. Something is going on. Sorry to be such a bother. Let me know what tests I need to run.

A:FireFox Freezing Help?

What are your PC specs? Are you running firefox 4beta, or 3.6.X stable? Have you tried Firefox in safe mode(no addons?)Something else to try, if you've tried firefox in safe mode, is to uninstall and reinstall Flash player. Uninstall from add/remove programs, disable in firefox's "addon" area and then download from here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
