Problem detecting integreted audio device

Q: Problem detecting integreted audio device

Hi, i reformatted my computer 1 week ago and my problem seems to be that my system cannot detect my integrated sound card. When i try to play music in WMP i get this error message :

0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller. You may encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

Your sound device is in use by another program. Quit other programs that may be using your sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Your sound device is not functioning properly. To troubleshoot the problem, see the Sound Troubleshooter in Windows Help or refer to your sound device's documentation.
You do not have a sound device installed on your computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000

i know my sound card is integreted and when i ran Belarc advisor, a program that scan your computer, i got this :

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Drivers are all up to date, it's all plugged in fine and in the correct places. I have speakers plugged into the back and headphones plugged into the front, yet my computer still says no speakers or headphones are plugged in. I have even gone to the effort of reinstalling windows completely but to no avail. I am using on-board audio by the way and it is enabled in the BIOS, please help I've literally tried everything I can think of, looked online on all the forums but still nothing has helped and I am officially lost.

A:My computer isn't detecting any audio device help please

According to the ASRock site, this has RealTek HD Audio. Do you have the correct RealTek driver or do you have the generic Windows installed "High Definition Audio Codec"? If you only have the Windows installed High Definition Audio Codec, the first step is to get the correct RealTek Driver. ASRock only has Vista drivers but they are applicable to Windows 7. However, the most current RealTek driver can be downloaded direct from RealTek.

Your system has the RealTek ALC888 hardware. The RealTek High Definition Codecs are the correct drivers.

Also, please post a screen shot of the Device Manager, Sounds section.

I turned on my laptop the other day and no audio would play from anything, like youtube videos or itunes. I checked my volume control nothing was muted. When I opened itunes I got a message saying "itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/video playback may not operate properly". I tried to restart the laptop but had the same issue. So I went to the acer site and downloaded the audio driver for my laptop. Now the volume control icon has a red circle with a white x through it and says "audio device is disabled". I have a Acer aspire 7745g running Windows 7 64bit

Hi to all.

On my Dell OptiPlex 755 E6550 2.33, I've had intermittent issues with the headphone socket suddenly stopping working for quite some time, sometimes problem is auto detected and fixed, sometimes I download a driver or three to resolve. This time nothing is helping no matter what drivers I've tried. Have Win 7 Ultimate installed with just on-board sound. No sound or audio shows up in device manager? Are 755's fickle with on-board sound or just too many sound drivers installed? Any ideas please.

A:Dell OptiPlex 755 No Audio Output device and no Sound/Audio in Device Manager

There could be multiple hidden audio devices.
* Press windows key + R* Enter cmd, click OK* Type cd\ [press Enter]* Type set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 [press Enter]* Type devmgmt.msc [press Enter]* Once the Device Manager opens, open Sound and see if you have multiple grey out items. If yes, delete them, then restart the computer and retest

Hi @JD_gin?,Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion x2 Notebook and issues with sound drivers not installed correctly. In the Device Manager, right-click on Double-click on Sound, video, and game controllers and select all that are listed and uninstall the Driver Software. Here is the download to the Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driversp69248.exe. You could  try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix any updates that have not come through for Windows.  Please restart the Notebook twice to make sure all update have been completed! You could also try in the Device Manager, click the arrow next to Display Adaptors to expand that categoryRight-click on Graphics and select Update Driver Software if more than 1 Graphics adapter do 1 at a time.Choose the option to Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software. The Notebook should find and automatically install the updated driverAfter the installation is complete, restart your Notebook. Please let me know how this goes. You can say thanks for trying to help by clicking the Thumbs Up below!.Thanks.

Hi guys,

I'm going to state right off the bat that I know very little about the technical aspect of computers, so you may have to use layman's terms when explaining things.

I recently had to completely reformat (I think that's the right word?) my computer, as a pretty nasty virus had infected the hard drive and the BIOS. I'm thinking the latter might be the source of my problem, based on some other threads I read online.

Anyhow, just about everything is working fine except my computer now is unable to detect my sound speakers, despite the speakers being able to work on other computers. I go to audio options and all it really says is "No Audio Device." I'm thinking this all has something to do with my reformatting my hard drive & computer.

Let me know if you guys need further information to figure out the problem, I know this isn't a lot to go off of.

My computer seems to need frequent system recovery and everytime afterwards it does not have an audio device. I've forgotten how to fix it so please help.

My computer is a compaq, originally uses windows xp sp1 but I always update it to xp2 after recovery because otherwise the multiprocessor doesn't work. Right now the Sounds, and Audio Device under Control Panel says No Audio Device, and Device Manager says I have four Unknown Devices (with an ! in yellow beside them) under Sound, video and game controllers. When I try to update the drivers for them, the Find Hardware Wizard says the drivers have not passed the windows logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP, continuing installationg may impair or destabilize the correct operation of my system (the hardware wizard shows the device's name as MEDIA, by the way).

The drivers for each unknown device are as following:
Microsoft Kernel Audio Splitter
Microsoft Acoustic echo splitter
Microsoft Wave Audio Mixer
Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver

So, what should I do? Help is greatly appreciated.

What is the name/model of your computer? You need to reinstall the audio, and possibly the chipset, drivers.

To check audio :
click start, click control panel, click system, click hardware, click device manager, scroll down to sound ,video game controllers, click on the + box, check for any yellow ! or any red x's,
you may have to enable something or get new driver.

Or if that doesn't work then try this,
click start, click control panel, click sounds & audio devices,& check all the boxes one at a time, looking for anything that may not be running or turned off etc.
Hope this helps.

A:Audio device Problem

1. I think that is an Intel audio id
2. If your spec is as shown, then there is no windows 8 driver from Intel for that
3. If I am right it is possible that the error is caused when Microsoft attempts to install a driver
I do not know whether you are aware but unless you have changed it, then the default setting on Windows 8 is for driver updates to be installed.
4. If you go Control Panel Devices and Printers and right click the computer icon then click Device installation settings - you will see what I mean.
5. If you it set for driver updates I would uncheck that. That would be my recommend whether you had this problem or not, as I have always thought it best to get my own driver updates from either the manufacturer of the hardware or the motherboard site etc.
6. I am not sure if that is the cause of this report, but if you have it set on the default, it is worth a try

Hi all
I need some help please deciphering a possible 'fix' to a problem I have.
Briefly..I installed a new motherboard a couple of days ago (GeForce 6100pm-M2) I got all the BIOS settings correct and booted up. Windows recognised the new hardware and installed the drivers from the installation cd..., exept one called 'Media' It appears in device manager as an unknown device with the yellow exclamated triangle.
It won't uninstall because i get the frustrating message that 'Windows cannot uninstall thid device as it may be required to boot the computer, I can't roll back because there is nothing to roll back to and the updated drivers from GeForce don't work either. Now I was reading something where someone else had exactly the same problem as I have and the fix offered (and what I need help with) is this..

UAA bus driver installed? if yes make.
Disable 'unknown device'
Disable 'Microsoft Uaa bus driver'
Uninstall 'Uaa bus driver'
Rescan devices
Install new driver

Where do I look for all of this, in device manager..?
A translation would be very much appreciated

A:Audio Device Problem

Hello again
Forget that last post, I've sorted it. My aged memory suddenly remembered where I've seen this before and the fix for this particular problem is this..

Open 'Device Manager'

Disable 'Unknown device'
Go to 'view'>> 'Devices by connection'
Find and disable 'Microsoft Uaa bus driver'
Uninstall 'Uaa bus driver'
Then either rescan devices or install the new driver from it's location.

It's just worked for me and I hope this will help others with a similar problem.

Ohhh, the sound of sweet music once more..

Hi & welcome to TechSpot

so,swapping your speakers & headphone outputs?retasking?

how many audio outputs do you have?
you can assign the ouputs for your speakers
& headphone.

is that an on-board sound or add-on sound card?
brand/model? (motherboard model for on-board sound).

& also try to un-install the sound driver & re-install again.

you can look for a headphone socket from your speakers
enclosure & use it,so no need for swapping.

Hello, I'm kinda new here.. And I'ved got a "little" problem..

I recently bought a new computer(eMachines EL1200) and I freshly installed a Windows XP Pro, and I have had no problems in finding all of the correct device drivers I need apart from the sound-card.

When I view the Sounds and Audio Devices, it says "No Audio Device", and when I view the "Device Manager", under "Sound, Video And Game Controllers" it reads as follows:

Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Video Codecs

I already installed the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver(it's included in the PC ).. But still no sounds..

And on the box it says "Audio" - Integrated Audio"

If you need any more info, just tell me..

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I've already downloaded the audio driver from the manufacturer's site, and it still doesn't work

Having major troubles with my computer's audio. It has not worked since windows explorer crashed and restarted a few days ago. I have tried literally every solution I could find listed on the web, from uninstalling, and re-installing the drivers, to checking to see if the program was enabled, making sure that it was set to automatic startup, etc, the list goes on. Finally I gave up and bought a new sound card- however the problem still persists! It seems unfixable, and so at the end of my rope I have turned here for anyone who might be able to help me with my issue. Basically what is happening is this- no matter what the audio device, my computer lists it as working- but whenever I try to raise the volume, or access the volume mixer, it says "no audio device installed" despite the fact that everything else says it is working just fine. And of course, I can't hear anything at all, and this problem has even persisted after I installed a brand new sound card! What is happening? (and yes, I made CERTAIN the new sound card was the default, so that is not the problem.) Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have an Acer Aspire 5315 with Windows Vista. Around two weeks ago my computer started saying that there is no audio device installed. I went to Acer's website and downloaded the Realtek sound download for my model and operating system. When I ran it, it said "no drivers found" or "no driveres supported" (I'm sorry I can't remember which). So I deleted the file and downloaded it again and all it did was open the file and display the contents instead of running it automatically. Also, when I go to the control panel and look under sound it still tells me there is no audio device installed.

I don't know much about drivers. Honestly, I don't really know what a driver is or does. I've just been going on answers other people with "no audio device installed" questions have gotten. Can somebody please help me?

A:Sound Device/Audio Problem

When a device doesn't work, your first port of call should be Device Manager to see if it's driver is present, or if it's showing an error. Re-installing the driver is often all that's required. If the sound adapter is integrated with the motherboard (as opposed to being a third-party PCI sound-card fitted since the PC left the factory) you need to download the driver from Compaq Support: http://www.compaq.com/cpq-country/cpq_support.html

Select your appropriate country at top-right of page before entering the model name & number of your PC.
Default is United States.

If the sound adapter you wish to use is PCI sound-card fitted after the PC left the factory, you need to download the driver from that sound-card manufacturer's website instead.

Another thing to check is that the speakers are actually plugged in to the correct output jack at the back of the PC, not into an input jack like the microphone or line-in jacks.

Sorry if the SCP tag is confusing, I didn't want to cloud the thread title with Sound Control Panel.

Anyways, here's what happened:Install Virtual Audio Cable 4.11, everything works fine
Uninstall Virtual Audio Cable 4.11 (Possibly incorrectly), in order to install VAC 4.12
Open Sound Control Panel
Select Recording Devices Tab
Select Listen Tab
Check 'Listen to this device'
Unable to click 'Apply' or 'Ok'
As a test, if the settings in a Virtual Audio Cable Line x recording device stay as default, 'Apply' and 'Ok' are usable
Note: All other non-VAC playback/recording devices work just fine.

I've sent an email to the VAC developers but they're slow as molasses, so now I'm stuck trying to figure why between uninstalling VAC 4.11 and installing VAC 4.12 the SCP is being so finicky? VAC has been uninstalled and reinstalled the proper way multiple times, sound drivers have been updated, uninstalled, and reinstalled. I'm at a loss here for what could possibly be causing the SCP to do this.

The OS is Win7 and the onboard sound is Realtek (I can't find the exact model on the Asus website, but the Asus drivers are being used). If any further details are necessary I will be more than willing to provide them.

I?ve seen this posted on a few forums, but none seemed to help me exactly. Any help would be much appreciated.

I recently got given my brothers old computer, which I have formatted and re-installed windows xp, and now the sound does not work at all. When I go to sounds and audio device properties it says there is no audio device. I followed the windows trouble shooter and it told me to check whether I had the MCI CD audio media control device driver, so I uninstalled the media control devices drivers and re-installed them, which only left me with one driver; mciqtz32.dll.

I have tried updating my soundcard drivers, which is additional to the OB one, but I don't know what soundcard it is. IT says it is a 'Creative SBLive! Gameport' but the creative website says this card doesn?t exist, and has no drivers available. My brother has long since lost the box and drivers of the card.

Also a new hardware wizard always comes up when I start up the computer, with two 'multimedia audio controller' and one 'RAID controller' It can't find the drivers automatically, and it can't find them on the Windows disk either.

I have tried many different things to fix this, and all have failed.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me on this.

A:No audio device - Sound problem

Usually, when people have this problem it is because they have not installed the motherboard drivers that come with the motherboard.

If you do not have a driver CD, you can find the drivers in the support section of the M/B manufacturer's web-site.

Second, verify that the sound is enabled in BIOS.

I am running Windows XP Service Pack 3. I have used Malewarebytes' Anti-Maleware to remove some maleware but it keeps coming back right after removal. I have also lost use of my keyboard and audio device (Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA). I have the keyboard working again after uninstalling the universal host controllers and restarting the system detected it for me. However, I tried to update drivers and uninstall device/drivers and still no sound. I get an error message that there is a problem with my sound device. When I check Realtek's properties in Device Manager, it says "driver has been enabled but has not been started".

Edit: This error message is listed for the following items found in Device Manager:
Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver - Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
- Microsoft Kernel Audio Splitter
- Microsoft Kernel GS Wavetable Synthesizer
- Network Adapters: Direct Parallel
- Ports (COM & LPT): Communications Port (COM1)
- System Devices: Microcode Update Device
- Universal Serial Bus controllers: VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller

[Plug and Play Software Enumerator was also corrupted but I just managed to fix that and uninstalled Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver hoping that it would reinstall on reboot (a suggestion from another site). It did not. Instead I got Code 39s for the 2 Microsoft Kernel items listed above.]

Hi Dr Weird, sorry you've had to wait so long. We can try a couple of things, but stubborn malware often requires removal tools which we can't use in this forum. I have Windows XP Home with SP2. Everything was installed recently on a new PC with brand new HDD. Sound devices are Realtek sound card (integrated on Asrock motherboard) and a USB IP telephone that I use for Skype.

I can't set default audio device. Whenever I go to Control Panel -> Sound and Audio Devices I set the default device to Realtek sound card and everything is fine until I restart my PC. After each restart the default audio device is set to the USB telephone.

Please help me to solve this issue.

Thanks in advance!

Help! I have not been able to get any sound from my Vista Ultimate OS. I have a motherboard that uses the Sigma Tel sound card, and although the driver is up to date, and "working" fine, I get the No Audio Device Installed when I check the speaker Icon. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Matsonic PM800-M (VIA)
Realtek AC97 (Driver version

I just put in this motherboard last night, and haven't gotten the sound to work yet. At first, I thought this was a different motherboard than it is, based off the model number on the box I got it out of. So I spent a few hours trying the wrong set of drivers, and then figured out what motherboard it is. Once I got the right drivers going, the device has been operating fine. There are no device conflicts, and the drivers are from the manufactuer's website.

Everything looks fine, just no sound comes out. I tried different sets of speakers. I checked all the volume settings. Audio is set default to the Realtek device. I tried system sounds, WMP, and Winamp. BIOs are enabled. I asked the previous user of this motherboard if they ever had problems with the audio output, and he said no.

So I'm all out of ideas. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you for reading.

Solved explanation:
Turns out this motherboard is cheap, and so is the Realtek it uses. What I had to do was put two jumpers on the Audio1 speaker jacks (Pins 5-6, and 9-10; the ones surrounding the keyed). This fixed it just fine. Apparently it wasn't made to work without hookups to a front jack. Mic works for me without a jumper on Audio1, also.

Check the USB device section in Device Manager and see if any of the entries there have a red "x" or a yellow "!" mark next to them. I suspect they will probably show as alright. To update your USB connections right click on each entry in the USB section and select "Uninstall" (answer yes or okay to the prompt that comes up). Once they are all gone close device manager and reboot. Windows will reinstall them for you. Let us know if that gets it going.

Have you installed the audio drivers? Check device manager to see if you have a yellow exclamation mark next to the audio device, if so, you need to install the drivers.

I have the same problem with xp , but I fixed it simply. In device manager I disabled ati audio or something like that and everything was ok .
But now, with windows 7 I can't do that , there is no ati audio ...
I suppose that is something about my graphic ...?

A:High definition audio device PROBLEM

Well, it says there's no speaker output available... do you have speakers plugged into the light green jack on the back of the PC?

Also, what is the USB Audio device? (or are these your speakers?)

Did you install Win 7 over the top of XP or is it a fresh install of Win7.

With your speakers plugged in you can try deleting -both- HD Audio devices in Device manager and reboot.
