Trying to configure a Print Server that is in a remote location

Q: Trying to configure a Print Server that is in a remote location

Hi Everyone,

I am attempting to configure a TP-Link TL-PS110P Print Server from a remote location.

From my location I am accessing a laptop which is connected to the same physical network as the Print Server. However the laptop has an I.P. address of 192.168.170.10, and it is connected directly into a router with the I.P. address of 192.168.170.254, whereas the Print Server has a default I.P. address of 192.168.0.10.

Within the laptop I have set a static route to the Print Servers I.P. address, below is a screen capture of the laptops route table.

As can be seen above (in yellow highlight) there is now a route from the laptop to the Print Server. However I am unable to ping the Print Server, and entering the Print Server's address into a browser results in no configuration page being loaded.

All this being said when I use a Network detection program I can clearly see that the Print Server can be reached on the network, as shown below.

How can I go about loading the Print Servers configuration page through a web browser? I have tried http://192.168.0.10, and https://192.168.0.10. Furthermore the same network has an identical TP-Link Print Server connected, and I can reach it's configuration page (due to it being on the I.P. address 192.168.170.229), and I can see that by default the Print Server does not require an explicit Port number to be specified.

I am quite stuck here, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Trying to configure a Print Server that is in a remote location

It seems like the persistent route would need to start with the IP of the printer which ends with .10... rather than .0 although I'm a bit confused on the requirements here.

So assuming you want a persistent route...,
Code:
route -p add 192.168.0.10 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.172.254 metric 1
To remove or to delete the old entry, type this: “route -p delete 192.168.0.0" or which ever IP it starts with" assuming it's persistent.

Another trick to check and edit your persistent routes is through the system registry.
In your regeditor follow this path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SYSTEM->CurrentControlSet->
->Services->Tcpip->Parameters->PersistentRoutes

I didn't think this would be possible, but I'm not going to argue with that detection program.

A shot in the dark: make sure the laptop does not have a firewall or security suite that is blocking or not trusting 192.168.0.x addresses.

well its impossible to do so u need a pc connected to that remote printer and that pc is linked to ur local pc with lan or wan wired or wireless well unless the printer can connect on a lan or a wan by itself which i never heard of

Hi, I am looking to be able to print from any internet location to my printer at home. I have a print server at home although not wired in yet. I do not want to have a computer always hooked up at home I would like the system to be self sufficient if you see what I mean.

Only problem I can see arising is I have a dynamic IP...is it possible or am I going to have to pay for a static IP

Cheers

Jamie

A:Remote print server

Not my field of expertise but if I understand the question, using the print server plugged into the router, if it is a wireless router, you can print from it anywhere in the house. You can create a static IP address for the print server as well in Windows which would make finding it a lot easier.

How do you configure remote desktop? I cant connect to any computer.

A:How do you configure remote desktop?

You ought not fear using the "Help and Support Center" for such questions. Search for "remote desktop" and one of the resulting topics is "Set up this computer to use Remote Desktop." I copied it below.

To set up this computer to use Remote Desktop
Open System in Control Panel.
On the Remote tab, select the Allow users to connect remotely to this computer check box.
Ensure that you have the proper permissions to connect to your computer remotely, and click OK. You must be an administrator or a member of the Remote Desktop Users group on your computer. For more information, see To allow other users to connect to your computer.
Notes

You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to enable the Remote Desktop feature.
To open a Control Panel item, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click the appropriate icon.

How are they connecting to your network? Are they connecting through a regular internet connection, or through VPN? If they are connecting via VPN, then all you need to do is configure their system the same as everyone else (in the office) and make sure they a) have cached exchange mode enabled, and b) connect to the VPN before opening outlook (as much as possible).

If they are connecting via regular internet, how are you setting up Outlook, and what errors/issues are you running into?

When you use remote desktop it autmatically saves the connections in the list. This list may disappear when you do a cleanup or run any cleanup software.

I use a program called VisionApp to manage my connections as I have a few.

I will give you an idea of my set-up then what I am trying to do and what I have done.

I have a BT router with Static IP, two wired computers, both have DHCP IP?s but BT Router makes static IP?s assuming computers MAC address don?t change (according to BT)

I am trying to connect using Remote Desktop and port forwarding for each PC e.g.

81.149.115.104:51463

The port is open when checking via yougetsignal.com but when trying to connect via Remote Desktop it times out/doesn?t connect.

I have set each PC to listen on the respective port in regedit but still nothing.

Windows Firewall is also configured to allow connections through each port.

Still nothing?

Any ideas of where I?m going wrong?

A:Problems configure Remote Desktop with port forwarding

Have since reset the port listening to deafult 3389 and allowed this port through my router and it works.

So therefore the problem is when I change the port? Any ideas??

Wondering if someone can help me out with this. I have my Windows 7 Enterprise 64 SP1 box on a domain. Our corporate office setup a 2008 R2 SP1 print server and created a few queues on it. When I try to go to start and then type in the
\\servername I get
\\servername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The remote procedure call failed. When I try to access the same server
from an XP SP3 machine it opens up fine using my same credentials. I have also tried this from another user's machine who has 7 Enterprise x64, whose machine was built differently than mine and I can get to it fine from that system too. Any ideas what
I am missing here? We run McAfee here and I've tried stopping all the services, and played around with a bunch of other things too, so far to no avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A:Remote Server Not Accessible - Remote Procedure Call Failed

I can't think of any off hand that would restrict just one resource - that's not to say there aren't though. Here's what you can do to check the Services:
Note that you must be logged in as a Domain Admin or have Local Admin privileges on the machines.
Start up two instances of services.msc.
On one of them connect to one of the Windows 7 machines that is working properly. The other leave connected locally.
Now go down the list and make sure the services on your machine match the services on the working machine. If they don't, change them so that they do. Pay particular attention to the Server and Workstation services. Also the Remote Procedure
Call and RPC Endpoint Mapper services.

One of several remote locations on my network goes to sleep several times a week. Users claim no connectivity, can't ping out? We ping the 'outside' of the ISP's router, the first ping fails and the next 3 'hit'. Users can then connect for the rest of the day. Before the 'ping' we can't see anything behind the Router.

We have a firewall configured VPN tunnel on a T1 to this site. ISP claims no issues with the router. I've never heard of a firewall (CISCO pix) sleeping? Any ideas on where to look or start looking for the issue?

Make sure the firmware router is up to date. If this is a business class router from CISCO I would call them and see if it's a known issue and if they have a solution.

I think I have a unique problem with a domain. We have 1 domain controller and 5 secondary controllers at 5 differant locals. The PDC and secondary's see and talk to each other individually and handle all the domain activity correctly on a one to one basis.

The problem is that if I am at a location other than the physical PDC location and want to remote a workstation at a second location I can not get to it over the network.
I can however remote any PC on the domain from the PDC site local. For instance if PDC is at local A and I'm at local B I cannot get to a PC at local C or the seconday DC at C.

Any lead into settings would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Jay

A:remote location domain access

If you are in a star configuration for your connections and the central router is not configured to go from site B to site C you could not make a connection. Now at site A [central] you would be able to gain access to ALL connected sites.

Might want to post your topology is this is not the case. You would also have to specify what wan access; frame relay, point to point, vpn, whatever.

BTW is this Active Directory? There are no pdc/bdcs in AD

A:Wireless Access for remote location

Regular wireless (802.11g/n) is probably not going to do the trick depending on the distance. However, you can purchase point-to-point optical or microwave links that will extend a network at wire speeds. All you need is line of sight between the two buildings.

I have a print server running 2003 standard sp2, I have been looking for a way to allow helpdesk staff install and manage printers without logging into the server and without adding them to the admin group.

So I added them to the power users group and the print operators group, that worked fine they were able to UNC ( \\servername ) to the server and install printers, drivers, as well as uninstall drivers? printers ect????.
Now the problem??? this works great from an XP box, but when we try it from a windows 7 machine we get access denied. More specifically it acts like it is going to install the printer then when it comes to the driver installation part it fails ?Printer driver was not installed. Access is denied.?

No changes have been made to the permissions I can log into an XP machine with my profile and it works fine log out go to a Windows 7 machine use the same credentials and I get the above message access is denied. I am an admin of both machines on the windows 7 machine I have UAC turned off completely. Running XP Pro SP3 & Windows 7 pro both are 32 bit machines.

I should also add that I have made the necessary group policy changes to allow printer operators to Load/Unload device drivers and under the local policies/security options I ensured that the Prevent users from installing printer drivers was Disabled.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, welcome to the forum

Try this code, you'll have to add your own bit of code but you can select a folder and then continue

Run the macro named SavetheFileSomewhere to see how it works
Code:

Option Explicit
Option Base 1

Public Declare Function SetCurrentDirectory Lib "kernel32" Alias "SetCurrentDirectoryA" _
(ByVal lpPathName As String) As Long

'* Prev Update : 07-04-2014 by Hans Hallebeek (HC&TS)
'* Last Update : 11-10-2014 by Hans Hallebeek (HC&TS)

Function GetFolder(Optional sTitle As String) As String
Dim fldr As FileDialog
Dim sItem As String
Dim initFName As String
initFName = vbNullString
Set fldr = Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogFolderPicker)
With fldr
.Title = "Select " & IIf(Len(Trim(sTitle)) > 0, sTitle, "a Folder:")
.AllowMultiSelect = False
.ButtonName = "Select folder"
If .Show <> -1 Then GoTo NextCode
sItem = .SelectedItems(1)
End With
NextCode:
GetFolder = sItem
Set fldr = Nothing
End Function

Public Sub SavetheFileSomewhere()
Dim sFilePath As Variant
sFilePath = GetFolder()
If Len(Trim(sFilePath)) = 0 Then Exit Sub
MsgBox sFilePath
' The variable is the fullpath
' just add the code below to save the excel file elsewhere
' something like Activework.SaveAs etc.
End Sub

Happy coding

I am looking for a way, to modify the switches in order to generate the file to a central location, the idea is about using it for remote support with the least interference possible from the user's side.

The best idea would be a central network shared folder, with no authentication, but due to GPOs and hardening done to the end user machines this option is not possible.
any idea that would help would be greatly appreciated!

A:Saving remote assistance files to central location

The best I could do is the following batch file, but as it is still have a clear text username and password it's a no go, and compiling it to exe generates an AV alert, plus I cannot send it by e-mail since it's an exe
cmdkey /add:192.168.1.1 /user:test /pass:test
C:\Windows\System32\msra.exe /saveasfile \\192.168.1.1\Assistance\Assistance-Request.msrcincident

How do I use SSA to configure a hard drive on a ProLiant ML30 Gen9 server? I hooked up the harddrive to the 4x cable, plugged that into the appropriate slot on the harddrive, then used an ISO to install Fedora. Fedora installed on the HD just fine. But when I restarted the computer I still sawEmbedded Sorage : Dynamic Smart Array B1401 - SATA Optical Drive 1 - Configuration required.1785-Slot 0b Drive Array Not Configured. Action: Use the SSA to configure the attached drives.But I don't know how to go about doing that -- how do I access the SSA to configure the drive when I haven't yet even started the computer for the first time? The ISO was able to find and install to the HD just fine, why won't the boot sequence find it?

A:How to configure Email Database for windows server

All users have to have a username to log on to their computer in the first place, All computers also have to be linked to your server, and then what ever computer they are on, Microsoft Outlook configured to their name, Best if you ask your IT Guy/Girl to sort it. Go get your IT Person and watch and learn.

Below the basics for configuring Microsoft Outlook I am not putting anything further in here

When opening for first time (Microsoft Outlook) Click on –
· Mail
· Setup Email
· Add Email Account
· Next
Microsoft Exchange Server
· Next
· Untick first option
· Type in – (usually Svr (number). (server name.local) or combinations of this your IT person should know what it is
· Enter Name
· Click – Check Name
· Next
· Then Yes (for Different)
· Finish
· Close

Open Microsoft Outlook
(if not own email)
Select Name
Tools
Email Accounts
Dot – change
Next
Change to mail box
Finish
Ok then close email

Hello, I hope I am posting this question in the correct forum

I use a remote desktop to access my work computer from my home computer. On my home computer I am using Windows Vista and have Norton Security. I am wondering if there is any way for someone from the remote location to enter my home computer while I am using the remote access? I've always wondered this but was told by a friend that my firewall protection would stop this from happening. However, I grew suspicious when recently I was trying to rename a file folder on my home computer but couldn't rename it and got a message saying it was being viewed (or was open rather) in another program, but I checked everything I knew to check and I did not have it open anywhere else on my computer - I hadn't even accessed that folder until I decided to rename it. I don't think I had my remote desktop access open at that time though, but I wondered if someone else was viewing the folder - it may be totally unrelated to the remote access thing but you never know, so I thought I'd find out once and for all if this is even possible regardless of the folder re-naming issue.

Thank you!

A:Can someone enter my home computer from my remote access desktop location

There Isn't any way I am aware of for a standard remote desktop session to give another user access to your computer. However, do you enable the option to give your remote session access to your local drives and printers? That would allow something in your own session to access your home computer's hd from the remote computer. Check and see if you were using that option. Either way I would investigate the locked folder until you can either rename it, or find out what program or service has it in use, just to make sure there isn't something lurking on your machine.

Hi.

I am making first experiences with a virtual server (VS). The system runs Debian Etch, and I have one domain running on it. But I haven't finished to configure this domain properly, and want to find out here, how to do that.

At the moment, opening the domain with "http://www.MyDomain.com" brings up this message:

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Apache/2.2.3 (Debian) PHP/5.2.0-8+etch16 Server at bigtingsagwaan.com Port 80Click to expand...

The VS just don't knows yet, that it should open home, default or index files with the extensions html, htm, php, or php5 (or whatever) at first. And I am sure, many other things also still need to be configured.

I am asking the experienced users here, to give me some assistance. Once I did it one time, I can repeat by myself the next times.

I had a Print Server EUSSO that connected with my old deskjet printer (HP deskjet 845c USB) to my knowledge it working fine...

Though I had bought a new printer (HP laserjet 1020 USB) hook it up to a Print Server but to my amazement, I couldn't get it to work (it working fine, if plug direct to PC)... I set it the way I worked with the old deskjet (HP deskjet 845c USB) and I don't see why it didn't work... Or maybe the Print Server do not support the new Printer? I had visit HP support site, and they just didn't give me any good solution...

Note: upon completing the setup and do a test print; I notice there aren't any error messages display... I see a queue of file on the Printer Document Name last for 2 seconds and dissappear, No errors messages...
But if I try to change the port name/number it will display error message upon printing, and the file on the Printer Document Name didn't dissappear either...

I am so curious why it didn't work?
1. I know it not the printer fault
2. Print Server is not malfunction either (unless it not meant to support my new printer)
3. Not the cable either
4. I don't see any wrong doing with my setup, since I got the first one work and running
5. Now I am sitting duck

Any feed back on this issue would gladly be appreciated...

A:Print Server won't print on new printer

Did you install the drivers for your new printer? (Obvious, sorry, but I have to ask) Best bet would be to uninstall all printers and printer software you have and start over from scratch.

The print server doesn't have to support your printer - all it does is take the data sent by your computer and forward it to the USB port. Your printer however has to support the print server. Some printers require a bidirectional connection with the computer and that cannot work over the network.

Does your print server suppirt several types of connection? It could be any combination of LPR, SMB, JetDirect and any proprietary protocols. Try something else than you are using right now.
