Q: google results show up in wrong language

Hello,
We have followed a previous thread and tried to fix this but,

1) we cannot seem to get to the preferences page for google, it just pops back to the google main page

2) firefox options does not list "language" in the advanced/general tab or anywhere else we've looked

any suggestions?

thank you

Preferred Solution: google results show up in wrong language

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently started a new job and the computer I was assigned to has a nasty redirect virus. Every other Google search result I click redirects me to a random website regardless of which internet browser I use. MalwareBytes and Search and Destroy have not worked. Also, when I search for something in Google toolbar, it searches through google.de so that the results are all in German. Thanks for any help/advice you can offer.

Bumping.===========Hello While we understand your frustration at having to wait, please note that Bleeping Computer deals with several hundred requests for assistance such as yours on a daily basis. As a result, our backlog is quite large as are other comparable sites that help others with malware issues. Although our HJT Team members work on hundreds of requests each day, they are all volunteers who work logs when they can and are able to do so. No one is paid by Bleeping Computer for their assistance to our members.Further, our malware removal staff is comprised of team members with various levels of skill and expertise to deal with thousands of malware variants, some more complex than others. Although we try to take DDS/HJT logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. In either case, neither of us want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it.We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further replies until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT ... Hello everyone,

My problem sounds similar to most of the search engine problems posted. In my case the results from a search lead to what appear to be ad sights. If you do a search for "Yellowstone", all of the URL's are suspicious looking "www.click4less.com\yellowstone" etc. I have not clicked on any of these. If I use the search engine provided by my ISP (google powered), it works correctly.

I have ran AVG, MalwareBytes, and Kasparsky. Each have found nothing.

Any help appreciated.

Google searches seem slower and results pages have bogus entries whose title looks somewhat related to the actual search term(s), but, the giveaway is that the URL's are completely unrelated. Clicking on one of them (stupid human curiosity ) led to a page which took over FireFox 3 and claimed that our computer was running slowly and therefore we should download and install AntiVirus Plus ! Right! Trying to close the window using the X in the top right corner fails, the program launches and starts scanning.

So here we are... Have tried many things.... among them: MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Spy-Bot S&D.

One other strange symptom, have noticed, just today, that a file named "22; Media Center PC 4.0)" is being created all over the computer. First noticed it on the Desktop and when I deleted it, it reappeared within two minutes. Have since found it in other directories, too.

Hoping to find a way to clean up Google and reassert dominion over this little box of spare parts that connects me to the world.

Firewall is up. Logs are attached. Optimism on full.
....thanking you in advance

Hello there. I'm new, and I have a very, very bad problem. I've posted about this matter on TSF, but it's been a week and I've had no reply, so I thought I'd try here as well (seeing as I'm desperate).Almost two weeks ago now, I was doing a search on Google, and accidentally clicked on the wrong result. It took me to a page that didn't load and Chrome gave me a message that said my computer was infected. At the time, I had Avast! and SpyBot installed and neither program detected anything, so I thought nothing of it at first. But then after that, every time I went to close Chrome, I got a message that asked me if I was sure I wanted to close as there were downloads still in progress. I hadn't been downloading anything. I gave the trial scan of Webroot SpySweeper a try (as well as its Desktop Firewall product) and it found only Spy Cookies. Webroot Desktop Firewall works great, but I get a notice saying it's blocked something around every three seconds, which seems abnormal. As well, when I'm out of Safe Mode (with Networking) most things crash or just don't respond, and my USB stick has been visibly infected. My computer is also working at about 1/10th of its normal speed.I'm really worried, because I have no backups of anything saved (I just learned of that Vista feature today - I'm very computer-stupid), and as I said, my flash drive files are infected (so anything I save to it comes out unreadable and un-deleteable). I am searching using google in firefox. I have not tested IE or other search engines. About 50% of the search results get redirected to a commercial site/fake site. For example, I might search on "Garmin Maps" and choose the third result which should take me to Garmins website. It redirects me to a Bizrate.com with some garmin related commercial stuff.

I have tried Norton Antivirus, SpyDoctor, Adaware, Malwarebytes, PandaActiveScan, CleanUp, and resetting router and modem. I still have the problem. I have seen other similar problems/threads, but no one answer that seems to work for me.

Every time I use Google or another search engine, sometimes when I click on a link from the search result to go to a desire website, I get re-directed to the wrong website often another search engine website. To bypass this I have to click the back button and try again or sometimes I double or triple click on the link to get to the correct website. However, that is not the only problem I have. Sometimes whenever I'm using a website such as twitter or norton website for example, the page goes blank on my firefox browser and on the bottom left corner of the firefox windows it says something like 'transfering data from gostats.com' and it just stays like that unless I hit the back button several times or refresh the page. However, that doesn't always work. My antivirus can remove the gotstats.com cookie but it regenerates itself.

I already created a topic before on this website, but the problems was unresolved after doing several steps.
Here is the original topic:

Hi,

so far what I have noticed with my system is that when I am doing a google search, when I click a link in a search I get directed to other pages. Often I get pop up windows in places where I shouldn't.

This isn't actually the first time I have had this virus... My computer recently tanked on me and so I used an old boot disk I had to bring it back. Anyways, I think this virus was likely on that boot disk.

Any help would be fantastic.

Cheers.

I am sorry to tell you that one or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan / rootkit .

This type of infection allows hackers to remotely control your computer, log keystrokes, steal critical system information, and download and execute files without your knowledge.

If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation. Please refer to Microsoft's Online Safety article for tips on creating a strong password.

Do not change passwords or do any transactions from the infected computer until it has been cleaned.

My current workstation is running WIN XP PRO, SP2. At one point it was being used by my Russian stepson who put a bunch of games, etc. on it that were in Russian. After my own computer motherboard failed, I cleaned this workstation up but didn't reinstall windows [yet?] as I was hoping that this wouldn't be necessary.
Unfortunately, when I tried to install the setpoint software from Logitech, the splash screen and install instructions come up in Russian. The same thing also occured with one of my HP scanner programs. Although I have the language settings set to English, I do have the Russian keyboard language support also available so that my wife can type in Russian sometimes. But even though I have the language set in English [and it displays on the task bar as being in English unless I switch it to Russian], I can't download updates etc on the software that is "language" aware.
NOTE: I have called Logitech who didn't have anyone in their support area who could help me. We found one older version of the setpoint software that was showed up mainly in English although a few of the choices for location, etc. were displayed in a Russian language drop down list. even then.
I am guessing that there is some registry entry, etc. that the logitech and some HP software look at in order to provide a universal install program and the techs I talked too didn't know about?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

One of my alumni mailed me a question.
I don't have the answer. So I am asking the experts here....
His son lives in Turkey. He bought a new Win 7 Home premium computer. Upon installing, he entered Turkey to question of where he resides.
Presto, the display language is in Turkish. He does not know Turkish.
He needs to know how to change default language back to English.
Can he re-install and enter place of residency as US ?
Does he have to buy an Ultimate license and then install language pack ?

Thank you.

A:wrong language upon installing Win 7

If this is a major PC brand it always includes a full factory warranty and Tech SUpport for a year minimum. If he needs to call, chat or email them to help reset the language he should do so.

If it initially offered English as a language in that regional version then, yes, a reinstall should offer it again. Was he provided with Reinstallation or Recovery media? If not I would have him make the media as a backup and then run Factory Recovery from its partition, or Reinstallation media.

Hi Y'All - newbie here.

Searched the forums for answers but no luck, hence this thread.
I have Win7 Home Premium 64-bit on my new PC here in Finland. When I did my install, I chose English as the install language (Finnish and Swedish were the other choices). All went well, but now when I download and install certain programs (Audacity, for example) I get to choose the install language, so I select English. But when I run the program, parts of it are in Finnish - ?

I found another thread along these same lines which read, "EDIT: Found it! In the regional settings, under language settings -> administrative -> non-unicode programs the language was still set to Dutch. They sure don't make it easy...
This solved it."

I did the same, but the non-Unicode programs setting was English, so I could use some sage advice from you gurus - thanks in advance for your time on this.

Hello folks, my father-in-law has bought himself a laptop which has Windows Home Premium on it (pre installed so he doesn't have a disc). When he started to set it up he selected German by mistake rather than English and now can't figure out how to get it back to English.

I suggested that only the way he might be able to do this is, is to complete the setting up process and then try and change it back through the regional settings in control panel?

Is there any other way of resetting this back to English?

A:Wrong Language Installed By Mistake

Click on START | type language | select "Region and Language"

That will change language for the user account you are logged on to.

I would suggest using the HDD recovery partition and start over - reinstall Windows 7. Total time will be about 45 minutes.

I have an odd issue after removal of a Google Chrome redirection malware. I thought that originally my customer had thier browsers set to display in German but after the checked out the machine during pickup it turned out they had no idea how they got this way.
Symptoms are as follows.
Ie displays pages in German but menus and such are in English.
Chrome displays everything in German. Menus, pages, etal.
I have checked regional settings in windows, language settings in ie and Chrome. All are set and reset to eng (ca). I added en and set to the top as default but nothing changes. I know I am missing something rudimentary here but cannot put my finger on it. All other programs and files are correctly displayed in English. I am just stumped.

Hi all. My girlfriend has an Acer Aspire laptop on Windows XP (Russian language OS) which I have just connected to an Epson CX7300 printer (purchased in Russia). The printer is connected to my English laptop and all is fine, but when connected to the Russian one, the print information window just comes up with vertical bars (e.g. IIIIIII).
Some windows come up in English and some others come up in what looks like it could be Arabic, written from right to left!
I selected Russian language from the menu when I first installed it and this problem arose. So, I uninstalled it and reinstalled, selecting Russian again and got the same problem.
Russian language is in the list, but somehow it's gone to Arabic!!!
Can anyone help me with a solution?
Thanks, Mark

Hi I am a New Boy and spend a lot of time in Belgium using an AZERTY keyboard layout with Vista Ultimate OS installed in American English. So I got to hear about appdata file and wonder if this is where I should look and change Please any advice welcome as it is very frustrating Thanks David

A:CHROME Starts in wrong language

First of all - welcome to BC !

You say Chrome starts in the wrong language, but you don't say which language you would consider correct !  And you give us a choice of three - Flemish, French and American  English.

I  know that the AZERTY keyboard is the de facto French standard - I found this out after I got my e-mail log-in wrong three times in a French internet cafe, then I looked at the keyboard - but if that is the installed keyboard, how is the installed language English ?  Have you tried uninstalling Chrome and re-installing it to see if you get a 'Choose language' option ?

Occasionally I want to switch between different keyboard languages (english/german/russian).

Therefore I used in the past the keyboard change indicator menu in Taskbar/Systray.

However recently this indicator disappeared.

How can I Win8 tell to re-show it again?

If possible I would prefer to have a registry key + value so that I can create a *.reg script
which does the job simply by double clicking.

Thank you

It should also be noted that this issue has been reported by users whose machines have been "imaged". Therefore this is not an actual XP install from disc.

In preparation for an upgrade to Windows 10 I have changed the Region/Language for my system to "English (Canada)" wherever I could find a setting for it. That includes Control Panel > Region > Format "English (Canada) ", Control Panel > Region > Location "Canada", Control Panel > Language "English (Canada)" ["English (US)" has been removed - thus "English (Canada)" is the ONLY language listed]; Control Panel > Language > Advanced Settings "Use Language list".
Problem: When I go to Control Panel > Region > Administrative Tab > Copy Settings, the Display language for the current user still shows "English (United States)". Given that "English "US" is not even in the language list, the Display language SHOULD show as "English (Canada)" but I cannot find any place to actually make that "stick" so it also shows in the Copy Settings.
Does anyone know how to get the Copy Settings to show the correct Display Language?

Hi kisk:

My gut reaction was 'lol' at that screen shot; I've never actually seen the Arabic language pack in use. This was from a malware infection?? But let's address your problem, shall we?

First, let's start off by going into detail about your 'Regional and Language Options'. Was the regional options set to English? In the 'Language' tab, is the 'Text Services and Input Languages' option set to English as well?

Also, are you able to use a Win XP installation CD to repair Windows? If I'm not mistaken, there is an option to select your default Regional Settings there as well. Post back here with more details! Good luck. =)

When I opened up Tools - Language - and checked, it was set for Welsh.
I reset it as default English (UK) but it immediately reverted to Welsh and has steadfastly refused to change.

I've read in other threads that one should go into Registry and do X, Y and Z but I cannot find some of these references presumably because I have Office/Word 2000 and not a later version.

Any help would be most gratefully received.

Incidentally I can get round the problem to some extent when using Word by selecting all the text I've typed and then going into Tools, Language and setting English. It will then check the document properly but once I close that document I'm back to Welsh and the whole farce starts again.

Help, please.

Hi

Yeterday I purchased a new Fujitsu Siemens XI1526 17" note book , It came with German Windows XP Home addition..

Not being German I want to use my other English Win XP install disc, the notebook came with a Win XP recovery disc, it has SP2 and SATA / RAID support incoperated unlike my Win XP disc..

Ok , so I spoke to Siemens support and they told me to use my own CD I must load up the SATA drivers on to floppy "USB Drive" and when prompted to install Raid / SATA drivers must press F6 on start of install "I already know this" ok, so all is going well...

Then I format my drives and then Windows starts the install but before it does I get a message " VIA Raid Combo Driver Diskette" need to be inserted to A:

Well Im using a USB floppy so again I asked Simens and they told me that my USB floppy is probably not being support "Bah" in other words "Get a diffrent make such as NEC"

But I dont want to give up their so I've spent 2 days trying to make a bootable CD with SATA / Raid incoperated using This TUT but I keep getting errors in the TXTSETUP.SIF file..

My easiest solution would be to get a Siemens Fujitsu Win XP recovery disc in English "Any one have one let me know"

But apart from the above info is their any other way of getting this to work apart from Disc in English from Siemens "or Similar" or a diffrent floppy drive..

Thx

Dear community,

I turn once again to EightForums, as I know this is a great community Now, my native language is Swedish, but it seems at some places it still reads in English, the "Control Panel" link in the Start-interface, like below (it has said in Swedish before, strangely...). Oh, and OneDrive displays some words in English, too. :S

A:Why do Windows 8.1 Update display wrong language?

Do you have either an English Windows turned Swedish using Swedish language pack, or an originally Swedish Windows with English language pack installed?

Or is this a Swedish Windows with no language packs installed?

A:Lenovo Companion appears in the wrong language

Yes, it's annoying. I want all my technology to be in English. Just because I live I Norway does not mean i want the program to read Norwegian. Please give us an option to change display language! We are not the only one: https://lenovocompanion.uservoice.com/forums/270555-lenovo-companion/suggestions/7410112-language

I have recently built a computer and I have installed Windows XP onto it. I have an AMD athlon II x2 250 with 4GB of crucial's cheapest 800Mhz RAM http://www.ebuyer.com/product/142403. I have set the BIOS to run the RAM at 800Mhz and have set all the computer up fine. It seems to run OK and is very fast. I decided to test the RAM to make sure that it is OK. I ran memtest86 and it got to about 60% really quickly and then the computer just restarts. It will do this for ages if I left it because it automatically boots into the CD and loads memtest86 on startup.

Is this a bad sign or could this be an error on the memtest86 disk?

Thanks, Jack

I recently dropped my laptop whilst in Italy and had a new hdd fitted at the local computer shop. They installed windows 7 home premium (using the activation code on back of laptop) but in Italian only. I asked them to change language to english but it was not possible. I have tried to download windows 7 from microsoft website but get the message 'The product key you entered appears to be for software pre installed by the manufacturer. Please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery optons.'

I dont have a recovery disk so I contacted microsoft who told me to buy a new copy of windows 7. Asus havent got back to me. Is there any way of either changing the language to english or reinstalling windows 7 in english with no disk?

I reinstalled Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate today as Finnish, but I decided to try out English language, so I downloaded it through Windows Update. Everything else is fine, but in computer management Local users and groups and inside files are still in Finnish. I wouldn't like to reinstall whole OS again to keep English in everything. What could be the issue?

Hei Damstas, tervetuloa Seiska foorumille.

Kielipaketti muuttaa Windowsin n?ytt?kielen l?hestulkoon t?ydellisesti mutta jotkut k?yttiksen syv?lle haudatut osat j?v?t aina alkuper?iselle kielelle.

T?m?n voi kiert? pikku kikkailulla. T?ss? oppaassa kerrotaan kuinka oletus k?ytt?j?profiilia muokataan Windowsin asennuksen yhteydess? Windowsin niin sanotussa Audit Modessa j?rjestelm?n valmisteluty?kalulla, System Preparation Toolilla.

Asenna Englannin kielipaketti Windowsin asennusvaiheessa Windowsin ollessa Audit Modessa ja seuraa mainitun oppaan ohjeita kopioidaksesi asetukset ns. oletus k?ytt?j?profiiliin.
Hi Damstas, welcome to the Seven Forums.

A language pack converts Windows almost totally to selected language although some settings and variables hidden deep in system always remain in original language.

There's a workaround for this. This tutorial shows you how to change settings of Windows 7 default user profile in Audit Mode during the installation of Windows, using Windows System Preparation Tool.

Install English language pack during Windows installation in Audit Mode and follow the instructions in the tutorial I mentioned to copy settings to the Windows default user profile. When you now exit Audit Mode to finalize Windows installation it asks in whic... Read more
