Lenovo IdeaPad Z500, Windows 10 Wifi driver and connection problems

Q: Lenovo IdeaPad Z500, Windows 10 Wifi driver and connection problems

Hi everyone! I own the Lenovo IdeaPad Z500 laptop for 2-3 years and I have several troubles with WiFi since the time I have upgraded to Windows 10 months ago, but it has became quite urgent since the new year. After re/starting laptop or start from the sleep mode, I got disconnected. First half hour I have to deal with highly volatile and unstable connection trying to switch some settings with devmgmt.msc Well, what happens:WiFi turning on/off randomly, the same with WiFi driver (WiFi icon is replaced with PC plugin with red cross)The WiFi turning on/off button randomly disables or dissapears at allIf WiFi is turned on, no networks are foundIf I finally connect to a network, the connection becomes limited or disables in a momentThe WiFi panel has unpredictable behaviour, such as changing height to 100px approximately and I have to scroll, or starts connecting to a network even it's not checked to connect automaticallyWhenever the connection is lost or limited, the Google Chrome freezes and stops responding (its default behaviour?)What I have tried? As I have mentioned above, the playing with devmgmt.msc gives me usually a solution in lots of minutes, I have found on this website the advices about switching the 802.11n Channel from 20MHz to Automatically and vice versa. Sometimes works temporarily, sometimes for the rest of the day (or until I shut the laptop down, the following day my struggles go on..)Turning the WiFi off and on, but I am afraid the button stucks disabled so I have to restart the laptop in order to make it work.Trying the previous and the newest drivers to install.Specifications:Lenovo IdeaPad Z500, Windows 10, 64-bitIntel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 (the laptop says ironically it works well, funny) I am happy with my Lenovo product, it works like charm. However the WiFi is bad. All of what I have tried is not effective and permanent. It's quite frustrating to waste a time with it almost everyday. Although I am a very experienced PC user, I have no knowledge in the simple stuff like networking and WiFi (not simple at all, but useful). If you need some logs or more information, feel free to tell me, but would you describe me where to find it in detail? Thank you for any help and sorry for any misunderstanding, English is not my native language I am still improving myself in

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi Nichar,Please download the driver of the wifi and bluetooth card from Intel.com. Then download the windows update troubleshooter here. Use the the troubleshooter to hide any update for the wifi and bluetooth card. Hope this helps.Cheers,

Just before the July 29 deadline I updated my Lenovo G40 IdeaPad to Win 10.
Everything appeared fine except that I couldn't get a WiFi link!
Eventually Lenovo "support" advised that there was no available WiFi driver for the G480.
Desperately, I had to uninstall Win 10 and revert to Win 8.1.
Can anyone advise on this. I find it somewhat unbelievable that there isn't a driver for the G480 model - it's not that old.
If anyone can help, I also need advice on how to update to Win 10 beyond the July 29th boundary
Thanks

Hello Lenovo forum, I have a problem. NO WIFI (even after install drivers/reboot) Last week I bought this laptop: https://www.expert.nl/lenovo-ideapad-310-15isk-80sm017smhAll good, only thing I didn't like was Windows 10 OS.So I bought a serial for Windows 8.1, downloaded the .ISO on Microsoft website, installed it on USB-drive and installed a fresh Windows 8.1. So all CLEAN.Like always first thing is to start with install Drivers of course. So I downloaded Everest and put it on USB-stick. (Easy program to show which hardware)I already checked on (this computer>manage>device manager) and saw there same; Realtek pci family controller for Network.(Now I wanted to check it before posting this but since I just deleted all drivers 10 min. ago, since didn't work, I no see any visible.) But I'm pretty sure it was Realtek PCI Family Controller. So I downloaded the drivers from the Realtek website, and installed it. Rebooted, but still same problem.Anyway I saw also that Motherboard says: "Unknown" on Everest so I think I need drivers for that also but don't know which ones? Same for some USB drivers but I think this is included with Motherboard. The problem is that I just can't choose any Wifi.In Manager the only option is: Flight mode: On/Off (=Off)Bluetooth: On/Off (=Off) I don't see Wifi.I'm trying for hours + yesterday so hope find solution here, otherwise I will install Windows 7 and try that. Thanks in advance!

Product key is stored in BIOS, so there is no need to use any app to read it.Download a tool to create bootable media from Microsoft website and install Windows 8.1 using it:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8 Moreover at first, you may try to restore your Windows 10 to factory state (do a backup of all important data first). Go to Settings -> Recovery -> Reset this PC and select Remove everything.

Sometimes, because the high-temperatures, it automatically switches down, because temperatures, before seeing the lenovo logo. With lenovo diagnosis software I have checked all the hardware, and the tools says all hardware is ok. My os is Windows 10. You can try testing individual key specially FN and spacebar if it is working.

Turn off the machine and disconnect the ac charger and battery if you have the tools.
Press down the power button for 12 seconds to drain flea power.
Place back the battery and connect the ac charger.
Restart to check if backit keyboard works ( test further with FN + spacebar pressing 2-4 times).

Hi I was unfortunate enough to buy a Lenovo laptop for the first time two weeks in Kuala Lumpur. It wasnt too long before I realised that the laptop had a serious problem with the Wifi. The internet connection either runs very slowly or not at all, i'm using my old trusty HP laptop at the moment and there are no problems at all, even my cheapo smartphone works better than the Lenovo. The model is Ideapad 310-14IKBModel name 80TUS/N PF0Q5ZXD After a little research(wish I did it before I purchased) I found out that the older Ideapad 310 is plagued by bad Wifi, but it shoudn't affect the new models, this laptop says it was manufactured on 18/12/2016. Two years international warranty came with the device, so I am planning to visit Lenovo when I return home. In the meantime is there any quick fix for this? It's driving me mad. Thanks

For two weeks now I m experiencing a wifi problem on my Z500. Everytime the wifi works fine for two or three days, and then at a random moment all my connections disappear, and the router to which I am connected is just 1 bar strong (Router is in my room). As I delete the driver from the Qualcomm adapter in Device Manager and a new driver on the Lenovo website download it works fine again for a couple of days. At least 15 connections are available. Again I can use the wifi for two or three days and then the problem occurs again. Unfortunately I can t fix it anymore by downloading just a new driver. I tried dozen drivers. The one from Lenovo does not work, the one from Qualcomm does not work. Everytime the wifi works for a day or two, and then something happens and all my connections disappear, and the router in my room is just 1 bar strong. I ve got this laptop three years now, and never had any problem with the wifi. Two weeks ago I did a lot of Windows Updates and then the problem started. System recovery does not work on my laptop either (In safe mode without virusscanner), so that can t fix the problem as well.. Hi Guys,

I am a member of the sevenforums and currently have a win8 laptop so thought I'd sign up here (seems to be the same people behind both forums).

I'm having a little trouble and would really appreciate some feedback.

My Lenovo ideapad z500 had 2 keys (K and I) that stopped working (they worked on the touchscreen) and then after that the delete, 8, and arrow keys topped working. Not sure why.

Before I get the keyboard replaced I'm wondering if it could be something else? There's no water damage and I haven't dropped it so I'm confused. I was told it has to be water damage but maybe 1 drop from the condensation on a glass of water is all I can think that may have affected it.

Would be great for some input on this issue.

Thanks!

A:Laptop Keys Stopped working - Lenovo Ideapad Z500 Win8

I was told it has to be water damage

Not true. In fact, water in the keyboard normally does not cause permanent damage. That is, once the water dries, all works again - most of the time. But that does depend on many variables - type of keyboard membrane, how much water, if just water (no sugars or cream, for example), and how much dust, dirt, oily hair/dander, cigarette smoke, cookie crumbs, etc. are under the keys when the water was spilled. The greater damage generally comes when the water works it way through the keyboard and into the computer's electronics.

I would try a regular PC keyboard first to see what happens. If all the keys work properly with a standard USB keyboard, then you can be pretty certain it is the notebook keyboard at fault, and not something more serious.

Some forum members have reported a variety of Wifi issues with their G505 laptops. Their reports range from showing "Connection is limited", to Wifi connections dropping repeatedly, to being unable to make a Wifi connection at all. I combined multiple threads in order to assist forum members with troubleshooting solutions.

If your G505 was upgraded to Windows 8.0 or 8.1 and then lost connectivity, or you recently purchased a G505 running Windows 8.0 or 8.1 and are unable to connect, try following the instructions posted by Vikramsbox to restore the connection through the Lenovo Communications Utility.

For non-Windows 8.0 or 8.1 users, start troubleshooting with the basics:

The most recent WLAN, BIOS, and Power Management drivers from Lenovo can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-g-series-laptops/lenovo-g505-no...
It is also good practice to verify your Wifi is activated by following the instructions from Neokenchi.
Check Power Management settings to ensure your laptop isn't turning off the Wifi as noted by Dannyk1.
Check to see that Airplane Mode is set to OFF by following the instructions provided by Shiv_K.

After trying those steps, if you still experience a Wifi issue with your G505, other troubleshooting steps have been noted in this thread. This includes a whitelist of accepted replacement WLAN cards posted by Topmahof and a 3rd party driver which resolved wifi issues fo... Read more

Hi fellow helpers, In urgent need of help (I guess everyone is in need of that over here) I have two questions.  1. I purchased the Lenovo Ideapad 500 15ISK laptop in October 2016. I regisitered it on Lenovo support in December 2016, however i noticed that my laptops warranty runs out on 7th February 2017. Its been 4 months since I purchased this laptop and the warranty was for 1 year. How is this possible that it runs out in 4 months? 2. I have been having problems with the laptops wifi connectivity. While I am browsing the internet, for some reason the webpage keeps on loading for 2-3 minutes before loading completely. My old laptop, tablet and work fine without any delays. I have virgin media 50MB. I have updated the drivers but still no solution and this occurs few times everyday. It is starting to really annoy me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ThanksJackson
