Q: X270 uprade lcd from HD to FHD after purchase

Hello community,Recently purchased new X270 which is in warranty.I wanted know if I can upgrade the LCD from HD to FHD in authorized way (in Japan), without breaking warranty. If upgrade by myself doesn't break warranty, where can I buy Lenovo parts in authorized way? It seems lenovo Japan's website for purchasing parts is broken [1]I tried dialling Lenovo in Japan but I don't understand their Japanese IVR.I couldn't reach support unless I face a problem. I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have windows 98 SE on my computer now. I do have a copy of Windows XP home edition. I am thinking of upgrading to XP. Is it much of an upgrade? How easy is it to overwrite 98? Would I need to format and debug my hard drive? I do have a slave So I could save a lot of my information to my slave. What do you guys suggest?

A:uprade to XP?

Microsoft recommends you upgrade but I recommend you perform a fresh install, so you don't carry over the old baggage and problem from Windows 98. But you will have to reinstall all your applications. Make sure you backup your data by copying it to your second hard drive. When you install XP it will provide the option to repartition and reformat the hard drive. If you are using a XP Upgrade CD, it will request you insert an Windows CD to verifiy you have one.

Most boards will not support processors twice the speed of what they were originally equipped with. You will have to check your board manufacturer's specifications for that information to be sure.

I have an Elite Computer Group Mobo P4VXASD2+ which supports both SDRAM and DDR. It's been running fine with 256Mb SDRAM. I tried to upgrade to 1Gb DDR (Kingston KVR266X64C25/1G, which was recommended on the Kingston site for this specific Mobo). I changed the jumpers for 2.5v operation and for addressing the DDR slots. On boot up, the beep sequence was 1 long beep, then 8 short beeps, thena long pause, then 2 short beeps, short pause and 1 short beep. No display came up so I couldn't see what was going on. Display appeared to be in sleep mode. When I reconfigued back to SDRAM, it look numerous boot attempts to restore the setting on the AGP board.
Any ideas on what caused the DDR boot to fail would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Peter

Can only think that there might be an issue with the bios version of the board or with the power requirements of the 1GB stick of ram.

I currently have E-machine ET 1331G 03W. 300w PSU and integrated Nvidia GeForce 6150 SE, currently using AMD Athlon II 235e 2.70 GHz. was thinking of upgrading to a EVGA 550 TI. Only has PCI Express slot . Currently running 6 GB ram. limited space for video card. need info for PSU to use.
Any help would be great.

A:Uprade help needed for Emachine ET 1331G 03W

That model desktop has a PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot for adding a graphics card.

It has a cheap 250 - 300 watt power supply, so upgrading to a better and higher wattage power supply would probably be needed if you want to upgrade to a graphics card.

eMachine makes low-end low-cost desktops and aren't designed for hard-core gaming - if that's your intent.

did the win7 install go ok? was there a problem that occurred to give reason to check for critical errors listed in the event viewer. was the win7 actually having troubles.

did the printer work ok before with win7? the printer possibly requires a driver, downloaded from the manufacturers website.

Hey there, I'm new to this. I was working with Windows 7 32 bit and recently decided to take advantage of more RAM for recording music by upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit. However, after the upgrade installation my WD MyBook Studio II 2tb is no longer recognized in "My Computer" when I hook it through firewire OR USB (Yet all other devices work as they should) - So I've been to Disk Management and it shows up as a disk. However, there is still no letter assigned to it. When I right click on it, the only option is to delete volume. As you can see in this picture it shows up as disk 2 with three separate regions.

Now, when I hook it up to a MacBook running Leopard the WD MyBook Studio II works just fine and all of the files are accessible. I've also tried uninstalling the drivers, powering down and reconnecting, updating drivers. I've also switched my firewire controllers to (Legacy) in Device Manager. I still am not able to access my external drive within Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium - YET it worked great with 32 bit.

I can't remember if I disconnected the external drive from the computer when I upgraded Windows, but would that potentially have affected the install? How do I get access to my external drive if it won't show up in "My Computer" when it shows up perfectly fine on the MacBook running Leopard? Right now I'm using just less than half of the drive at around 800 GB and it's made up of two separate 1tb drives. I'm completely lost... Read more

Vista Ultimate 64 SP2 system.
Kaspersky upgrade caused major corruption....following their tech instructions....now Windows update no longer works. Can't fix because Net Framework is corrupted.
Tried all the Microsoft fixes....uninstalled Net Framework per instuctions, reinstalled. Verification tool says they are not working properly!!!
Can't do a repair because my original disk is an SP1.
It was recommended that I do a reinstall from the original disk.
But the original disk was an Uprade version & I did a clean install over 5 years ago.
What problems, if any, can I expect?
I'm assuming that my files will not be erased!!

A:What to expect when reinstalling an uprade edition of Vista SP 1 over SP2

First off, Backup (copy paste, or drag, drop) your User files (pictures, music, documents etc, not programs) to a USB HDD or DVD.
Next go to Start/Search and type CMD. Right click the CMD results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Command Prompt type SFC /scannow and press enter. This will replace any missing system files.
If this doesn't fix the problem, you can boot off of your Vista disc and choose Repair Your Computer. This also will replace any missing system files. It doesn't matter about SP2.
If you Reinstall, You will end up with SP1 and you will have to update your system, and you will have all of your files placed in a Windows.old file on the newly installed Windows system.
Then you can restore them at your leisure and then delete that folder when you're ready But it is always wise to manually backup first before doing anything and keep a current backup at all times, just in case something doesn't go well.

I used the Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade CD to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 (32 bit). The installation was successful through the .NET upgrade, but I had problems once I installed the (57) updates. The first time I went through the process, the system froze, I had to restart in safe mode a couple of times, etc.

I finally restored the system to the state it was in before the .NET upgrade (the first restore point available - the restore to the second restore point failed). I then let the system do the .NET upgrade and tried to install the (57) updates again. The system again crashed with the dump that I am attaching. The update information shows that the updates failed and they are now queued to be installed again.

The laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad T60 - just under 4 years old
Vista came with the system and was at the Syspack 2 level
Windows 7 upgrade was the retail version (3x version). I was able to install it without problems on my husband's Thinkpad T61

Hi all,
I recently needed to upgrade my gateway laptop from Windows xp home edition to Xp pro to service a telephone system.

Well, long story short. The upgrade went south so I had to reformat and re load xp pro on to the laptop, now my device manager doesn't recognize the internal modem and it says it recognizes my card slot which I use for a dual port serial card but the serial ports aren't working.

I spent hours on the phone this week with Microst tech support, gateway tech support with no luck. I've downloaded and installed the drivers that gateway list on their suppoort board for this particular laptop, I've googled my few remaining brain cells out trying to find other drivers, so far the only one that clears my device manager error is the conexant v 92 driver, then the laptop recoginizes the new hardware etc. but the modem still doesn't work and always loads it into com port 5, which my gut tells me is wrong. the old driver was an ageres 97 which worked fine on the Home xp.

As for the serial port card it recognizes it as com port 3 & 4 which neither respond but the pc says is working properly, in Home Xp they were recognized as com port 4 & 5 and they both worked fine.

On Thursday I gave up and turned my problem over to a computer repair shop and they haven't gotten any further that I have.

The laptop is less than a year old and I believe there is a software conflict somewhere (I am no where near an expert, I work on Telephone... Read more

I need some advice about the displays for the x270 ? is the HD display on the x270 an IPS? I didn?t find this info here https://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-x/ThinkPad-X270/p/20HNCTO1WWENUS0/customize?...! My current x240 with has HD resolution (I can?t tell if it?s IPS or not) model 20ALCTO1WW ? I?m considering replacing it with the x270.I?ve heard good things about the FHD display but I?m concerned that with the FHD panel my font size will be too tiny for my 50+ year old eyes in its native resolution. I?ve heard that scaling the display results in suboptimal rendering/quality of text/fonts. Has anyone looked at both versions of the display? How do they compare? I?ll be using the system for mostly coding/writing and perhaps watching some videos. No Graphics or PS intensive work. Might hook it up to the tv from time to time (not that often) The display on the x240 isn?t the greatest (could be brighter for sure) but it works fine, so I could probably do fine with the same type for the x270 ? or is there something that I ought to consider? Thanks! PS: FWIW, I?m planning to get the i5-7300 model with 16 GB RAM and the 500 GB drive (that I plan to replace with a standard SSD 500 GB or 1TB drive ? hopefully not a problem).

I can't seem to find a power input rating for the X270 I currently have on order. Of course, I know you can use a 65w with one, but it won't improve charge times if the amp input is limited. The store pages don't list the AC adapters output ratings by adapter and the C.S. chat reply was, "I don't have that information available." I know the output on the 45w is [email protected] simply because I already have one for my X240. Anyone with a 65w willing to post the output for me would be greatly appreciated. More appreciated would be anyone that happens to know what the X270's input ratings are so I can determine if charge times could be cut with a 65w. TIA

It recognises the AC adapter. Pushing the emergency powerup pinhole next to the battery doesn't work either.  I suspect that the power button is not working. I opened up the laptop to investigate, and found that a connector around the area of the power button is damaged (pictured).  The wire seems to have detached from the smaller connector.  My questions:Is this connector related to the power button?  Can I find a replacement, or repair with soldering?  Where can I find a map of the motherboard so I can confirm what this part is myself

Hi I am hoping others have experienced the same issue.  I have a brand new x270 running windows 7 64bit. I have installed Sophos encryption which uses bitlocker. When I tried to encrypt the SSD a message popped up and said TPM was not available. I rebooted the system and checked the TPM version in the BIOS it was set to 2.0 so changed to 1.2, logged back into windows and the encryption completed successfully.  However the problem i now have is every time i boot up i am asked to to provide the retrieval codes to get back into Windows. I believe the issue is with the TPM chip holding the first attempt in its memory. How do I clear it though?? From within bitlocker management in control panel I can clear tpm but it asks for a password. I have never supplied one !!!!.  If i reboot the laptop and again check the settings in the BIOS there is an option to Clear TPM with the option "Enter" but when selected it appears not to do anything. Has anyone had this issue or know how to get around it please. At the monent I have had to suspend bitlocker until resolved. Thanks in advance

I am about to replace my X230T by a X270, and have a few questions about X270 specs and about running linux on it.  I am configuring the X270 with a FHD touch display, 16GB RAM, and a 500GB 2.5-inch SATA HDD (not SSD) that I will upgrade. 1. The HDMI external video out specs mention 4k @ 24Hz.  No other resolutions execept 4k nor any other frame rate is specified. If I run external video through HDMI at FHD resolution (1920x1080), I would expect a higher frame refresh rate, at least 75Hz. Is that correct? 2. I currently set battery start/stop charge thresholds on my X230T, to protect long term battery health (I use the acpi_call kernel module for this).  Can battery charging start/stop thresholds be set on the X270? 3. If I run my desktop display on the FHD IPS screen at 1600x900 (instead of 1920x1080 FHD), will it cause any blur issues? 4. I plan to replace the 500GB HDD by a 2TB SATA HDD, and also put a M.2 2242 SSD (32GB) that I own into the WWAN slot. Will I be able to boot from either drive? 5. I run Linux Mint 17.2 (based on Ubuntu 14.04) on my X230T (rock solid, running continuously for more than 2 years). What is a linux distro that is good for X270 (good means stable and supports everything)? Thanks in advance.

Hi Scutu The X270 is an older model PC, but as you're running Windows 8 successfully, it SHOULD upgrade to Windows 10. You can: 1. Image your hard drive, so if Windows 10 causes problems you can return exactly as it was, many weeks after upgrading   or 2. Upgrade to Windows 10. you can revert back to Windows 8 by going to Settings>Update & Security>Recovery. Follow the on screen instructions. There is a 30 day limit to do this.

Hello,I am looking at adding SSD Drive to my X270. I am not your expert at this. I was told that I can add mSATA in place of the  WLAN card. Is that true? any mSATA will do, or there is a list of SSD disk that are compatible?Any other option to the mSATA without having to replace my hard drive? After adding an mSATA in the WLAN slot, how could I move my Windows 7 to it?I do have a X230 with 256GB SSD drive. Could it be moved to my new X270?Appreciate all your help

Hi all, I got a X270 here that has been freezing a few seconds every so and on and it is giving me headaches. The symptom is screen freezes for a few ~ 10 seconds but mouse and keyboard inputs are accepted. After the freeze is resolved, all inputs are shown. The frequency varies; 3 times within an hour or non in a day. Happens at least once a day. Googled it, came across the term "generic freeze" but the solution given didn't solve mine.  I've read about turning off Link Power Management. Check, still happensRead about ESET conflicting with Windows Defender. Defender is disabled, check. Still happens. Anyway, here are the specs: OS: Win 10 Pro x64 English Build 16299 (1709 Fall update) (US)Core: i7 7600U 2.8GHz (Don't know if overclocked or not, did not touch any CPU settings)Storage: SAMSUNG NVMe 256GB, factory item- Model: SAMSUNG MZVLW256- Firmware: 4L7Q, Lenovo storage device firmware update utility says it's the latest versionWWAN: Sierra Wireless EM7430 LTERAM: 16GB x1, factory item All updates are patched. I ordered this custom model online from Lenovo Japan, but there's this few second freeze happening straight when I first received it. I've sent it back for check ups and repairs for three times already, and the repair reports came back the following: 1. Issue acknowledged, reproduced, replaced the faulty SATA-NVMe (or the cable that connects NVMe to motherboard) cable2. Issue acknowledged, reproduced, replaced the faul... Read more

I read somewhere that the X270 contains 2 RAM memory slots. However, now that I have the bottom cover off, I only see one slot. Is the other one hidden, or does the X270 only have 1 slot? I want to upgrade to 16 GB of RAM. Thanks

A:X270: How many memory slots?

I see that this has already been answered here:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Use-of-memory-slots-on-X270/m-p/4030656/highl... 16GB max / 2400MHz DDR4, one DDR4 SO-DIMM socket It has only 1 memory slot. (So beware because there is misleading information in many places stating that this laptop has 2 memory slots.)

I have a 512GB 42mm (2242) SSD in the M.2 slot.  I use that as my primary for boot, etc.  Have a second drive in the conventional slot. I just bought a 1TB of the exact same drive to upgrade the M.2 - but my Thinkpad isn't recognizing it.  I know the drive is good because I have a M.2 - USB adapter and it recognizes it there.  Any thoughts?  Do I need some sort of driver or BIOS update that I'm unaware of, or does the hardware simply not support this?  I suppose I could initialize and format the drive in the USB slot and then see if it works in the M.2 slot, but wanted to ask the community first.David
