USB Malfunction problem

Q: USB Malfunction problem

Hi everyone,

I need really urgent help! If you can help me your a lifesaver!

Well my problem:

Whenever I connect a USB into my laptop i receive a "USB Device Not Recognized" Message.

the notice says that the device has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it.

Then it turns into an unknown device.

I have searched all over the net for a fix to this but I cannot get a working one.

I have also tried the USB on other computers and it works perfectly fine, it's a problem with my laptop.

I have tried my pendrive, ipod and mobile phone and all three do not work.

Preferred Solution: USB Malfunction problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently purchased an HP ProBook 450 G3. I am using two passport compact 1 TB drives with my laptop's two USB 3.0 ports. In normal use there is no problem. However, when I copy a lot of data from one to the other (or from one to the laptop's internal drive) the drives keep disconnecting. I know this because first I will get a copying error saying either the source or the destination is missing. Then I will hear the "chime" that Windows makes when a USB device connects or disconnects. Then the autoplay window for the Passport drive will appear. It seems that it spontaneously disconnects and then reconnects. I can continue using it for a time afterward, but it always spontaneously disconnects at some point, always when I am doing large data transfers.

I wondered if I have a poor physical connection---the USB plugs seem a bit loose. I checked if there is any vibration or movement that could break the connection, but so far there is no evidence that anything is moving. The disconnection always happens when a lot of data is being transferred, while the drives are sitting completely still.

Any ideas how to debug this?

A:Hard drive malfunction? USB port malfunction? Or just normal?

This is a hard situation to diagnose from a distance IMO. "Loose" is somewhat subjective, and barring serious abuse the only kinds of usb connectors & ports I've ever seen fail mechanically are mini and micro USB2 types.

I'd be inclined to suspect the drives first, especially if they are from the same family and were produced around the same time (the "bad batch" phenomenon). Have you tried to reproduce the problem on other machines, or with different drives on your machine?

A:Usb Malfunction Problem

First step, Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Create a restore point and name it something like "Before USB Fix". This is to bail you out if something goes wrong during the following process and makes things worse.

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG

You should have 3 boxes on the bottom in NOTEPAD.
1)Filename : fixcd.reg
2)Save as type: all files
3)Encoding: ANSI
If you do not change it from txt type to All files type, then the file will actually be fixcd.reg.txt, this won't accomplish the desired result

-------------------------- Use text after this line --------------------------------
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]"DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES"="1"

-------------------------- Use text before this line --------------------------------

Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

The problem: about a month ago my mouse suddenly began to 'stick' and i got a bubble in the bottom right corner saying my USB drive had malfunctioned. The cursor would move, but it would jerk and stick regularly, with the bubble flashing up whenever the cursor ceased to move with it accompanied by a fairly high pitched noise. It was a bit irratic, but in general the mouse would stick more than it moved and so i had to use keyboard shortcuts to get around. A few times when i'd load up the computer the cursor would half move and then after several minutes it would just stop working altogether, yet after a few hours i might go and try the mouse and it would work fine for a while. I also found that the surface had a strange impact on the mouse being recognised or not; the 'mouse mat' i was using and had been using with no trouble for months seemed to suddenly stop the mouse from being recognised, whereas if i leant on my metalic desk the mouse would work (to a degree). Since then, the mouse has stopped working altogether, the red light has disappeared and i've been reduced to using the lifesaver that is MouseKeys and shortcuts in order to get around.

I think around the time it happened i also got a bubble flashing up telling me that hardware installed had not worked, or something along those lines, it's difficult to be more precise as it came up only once and went quickly. I don't remember trying to install anything other than wind... Read more

I'm sure many have already faced with a very unstable work FPR in P50 for Windows 7?The latest version of drivers and software for fingerprint scaner functions not only did not solve the problem in the scanner, but also created a great new problem. You have probably noticed that after Windows restarts a fingerprint scanner in P50 very often refuses to accept a fingerprint? Many even upset at the thought that the poor quality or defective fingerprint scanner is set to P50.Fortunately, the problem is not hardware, but software.Enough to run the well-known utility Autoruns and on Winlogon tab, in the line:HKLM \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Authentication \ Credential Providersremove startup box for SynaCP Synaptics Syna CP module Synaptics Incorporated. c: \ windows \ system32 \ synacp.dllIt was this library from Synaptics conflicts with a similar library of Windows itself and causes a malfunction of the fingerprint scanner in P50.I guarantee that after a turn off autostart synacp.dll library fingerprint scanner will start work flawlessly.I believe that Lenovo developers should actively address this issue.

I've had my PC (signature) for 3 years now, I just changed the HD/ram last year, with no problems.

Suddendly, really suddenly, it started giving this blue screen error.

*** Hardware Malfunction
Call your hardware vendor for support
*** The system has halted ***

Hardware malfunction results in system error message
without additional errors.

It started happening every 3-4 hours in win7. Then after a 2-3 days it started happening every few minutes. And finally I couldn't almost login into win7 that it crashed. I noticed that it wasn't crashing in linux ubuntu (dual boot).

So I wanted to re-format and strangely I got the same error while booting from win7 installation cd! that was weird

at that point I thought it was a graphic card (nvidia 8800gts) problem, so I replaced it with another crappy nvidia card (geforce 8400gs from my other pc)
The system ran fine for hours, and I benchmarked a lot without problems.
I also noticed that my suspicious card was running fine in my other pc! so I had 2 working pcs.

At that point I put the broken(?) 8800 in my system again and it started working again. miracle
My system ran fine and I reformatted. all perfect
Then, this morning (1 week later) BSOD again. while posting a comment on youtube... restarted, another one, just using windows.

I really don't understand why this problem. i *THINK* that it's the video card but I don't understand why

I am having a continuing problem regarding my PS/2 mouse.

It started several weeks ago, firstly the pointer stopped moving, then after a second or two, it started working normally.

This started getting worse, so looked to see if there was a driver problem, which it seems there isnt. After another week, the mouse stopped working, so I went out & bought a new mouse, which seemed ok for a couple of days, but after that, this new mouse went crazy, then also stopped working.

I started using my USB laptop mouse, but this isnt a permanent solution for me, as my USB hub, has only the one spare port, which I need occasionally for other uses.

I have borrowed a friends PS/2 mouse, which also fails to work, and his PS/2 to USB converter, and even with this, neither mouse will work.

Is this a driver problem?.

If it is a port problem, why do the mice not work using the converter?.

Any help on this, would be very much appreciated.

I would say it's a port problem if you have tried various mice.

Hi, I have been having major problems for about 6 weeks. It all started with mouse, keyboard and screen freezing. Then the computer shuts off unexpectedly, no error messages, it justs shuts down immediately and to get it back on I have to pull out the power cord and replug it (I may have limited knowledge but I know this is not good!). Then I was unable to send email from Outlook Express, could receive but not send. Get error message 550. After chasing this up with Bigpond I found out my IP address was blacklisted as having sent spam messages to people. This made me think my computer had been hijacked or something by some nasty person. I use Trend Micro PC-cillin and it's always up to date. As well as this I have also ran several scanning tools (Defender, Spybot). Each time I use these it always comes back with new stuff, often 5 - 10 items each time. Mostly things with cookie in the name. I also did a scan from Windows startup and it came back with \PROGRA~1\SIMCAS-1\simcas\error.log bad clusters in file 103512. I don't know if this is relevant to my problem or not. In the last 2.5 weeks the computer started turning off and immediately turning back on then turning off then turning on. It usually does this 8 or 9 times and will become stable for a little while. 2 weeks ago I got rid of Internet Explorer and installed Firefox. This was OK for a day or 2 then it went back to what it was doing before. I have now reinstalled IE. The last 2 days it has been... Read more

Hello everyone, first time poster, so sorry if I mess up ^^

Anyways, I just got a new laptop, specifically a Lenovo 80XS0086IX Ideapad 320-15ABR. Initially it all seemed fine, but as I used it I noticed several problems: 1) it cannot remain in sleep mode for long. After a while, it just switches off abruptly. I have tried several combinations of lid closed/open, power cord in/out, but eventually the result is always the same. 2) When powering it on after these shutdowns, the trackpad does not recognize multiple-fingers gestures, requiring a restart. 3) The disk usage frequently goes up to 100% despite no ongoing activity. 4) Sometimes, pressing the power button to power it on results in the disk starting, then abruptly stopping, then restarting again several times, before the laptop finally starts. 5) The system sometimes freezes for several seconds, even the cursor stops, only to resume any input movement later.

I have tried everything in my knowledge: I updated the BIOS, the HDD firmware, installed all Windows updates, fresh-installed Windows, but nothing seems to work (although the HDD thing apparently solved the "always 100%" problem). I ran both Windows in-built check-disk and third party programs to check for errors on the HDD, but none showed up. I'd be really glad if it was something I can fix at home, since I really need this machine to study, so sending it to be repaired/replaced back at Amazon is my very last option due to time. Hope you guys can h... Read more

Hello all,

Well, to get right into it, my PSU conked out. I shut down my computer (Start > Turn Off Computer . . .), it didn't automatically turn off like it normally does. So, I tried the power switch, nothing happened. Finally, I flipped the switch on the PSU. Obviously, it was off now.
The next day, I went to turn it on, and it didn't. I tested the power switch, it was fine, so the next thing to check was the PSU. Took it to a computer service store, they tested it, it was dead. I sent it back to the company, they sent me a brand new one. And that brings us to today.

I installed the PSU in my computer, hooked it up to everything (mb, harddrive, video card, CD-Rom, fans). I pushed the power button, the PSU lit up (it has a lighted fan on it) and the fan went on, this lasted about a second, then it shut off. Well, then I went through step-by-step:
- Connected only the motherboard to the PSU - turned on, stayed on, beeped.
- Connected the motherboard and the larger fan - turned on, stayed on, beeped.
- Connected the motherboard, larger fan, and the harddrive - turned on, stayed on, beeped.
- Connected the motherboard, larger fan, hard drive, and video card - turned on, stayed on, did not beep. (apparently it was beeping because there was no video output.
- Connected the motherboard, larger fan, hard drive, video card, and plugged everything into the back of the computer - turned on, stayed on.

Although there are things like power surges and lightning strikes that could kill a PSU, there is really no reason to try to come up with a scenario for what happened. Often they just die and it can be without warning. I think you are saying that now everything works. If the new PSU suddenly quits then you may have a problem that needs to be figured out.

The fan set up looks pretty standard.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with XP Home Edition on it. All of my drives and devices connect externally and I access them through 3 different USB ports. A week ago I began having problems with my USB ports.

When I turn on my laptop, the devices (a mouse, keyboard and printer) initially are recognized and run well. Then I hear the noise from the comp as if I unplugged a device and my mouse, keyboard and printer are all no longer recognized by the comp. Sometimes I hear the noise as if I plugged them back in, sometimes I don't hear that noise but get an error message saying that my devices are not working properly and need to be replaced. All of my devices are in reality functioning properly. There does not seem to be consistency in when the USB ports stop functioning. During this time I am not touching the connections and at times am not even actively using the comp.

Do I have a trojan virus? or are my USB ports beginning to simply malfunction?
Any suggestions would be really appreciated. I can't do much with a laptop that cannot save a file to a disk or print a file. I have ad ware and spy ware removal tools (ad aware, spybot search and destroy, spyguard) as well as an updated firewall and antivirus (zone alarm suite) running on the comp. No major risks or problems have been found by these programs.

Try this: Go to start, control panel, system, click the hardware tab, and click device manager, click the plus next to Universal Serial Bus controllers, and right click and click uninstall on any USB root hubs. Then restart your computer and windows should detect your usb and reinstall the drivers.

DEP processing is flaky. Setting /noexecute=OptOut and adding HP digital monitor to the exceptions list does not cause DEP enable for all processes.

No 'restart needed' popup is displayed....
?? CHROME, AVAST, FIREFOX all show DEP (permanent). All others DISABLED.....
?? setting /noexecute=AlwaysOn works, all processes DEP'd, BUT disallows HP digital monitor (can print, cannot scan or retrieve printer info).
I do have Administrator privileges but thought I noticed a popup (IIRC) re two items (processes?) not functioning, CIMV2? perhaps and one other. WBEMTEST checked for DEP 3 (OptOut), verified it was set (I forget the Superclass now, under root/cimv2).
Is this a Startup issue of some kind? Something not loading? GPEDIT under XP not helpful unless DISabling access to various options.

Hi guys, I am a new user of Windows 10 which just updated to it from Windows 7 few days ago...

Well, I have bought a wireless mouse (CLiPtec brand), but I realized that it doesn't work or fit with Windows 10. I tried to troubleshoot the device but it ended up with "DTMB BDA TV USB has a driver problem". I also opened the device manager and made sure that the DTMB BDA TV USB is up-to-date. But, still, the problem never gone.
I opened the properties of DTMB BDA TV USB in Device Manager and it tells me that the device cannot start (Code 10).
Can anyone please tell me the solutions? I tried to search the newest update for DTMB BDA TV USB (For Windows 10) in Google, but it end up with no result (there are only Windows 8 and below..).
PS : I tried uninstalled the DTMB BDA TV USB and plugged in again the USB of the mouse. The mouse can move for the starting seconds, but soon, it can't be function anymore.

A:Malfunction of DTMB BDA TV USB

You are speaking about a CLiPtec mouse, but also about a DTMB BDA TV USB.

Are the problems of these two devices connected?

A normal mouse should also work without installing special drivers. So I would basically try uninstalling the mouse driver and see, if that helps. Note that Windows 10 by default will search for new drivers through WIndows Update and if it finds some, then it will install them automatically. If that happens, you should deactivate automatic driver installation.

This makes it extremely hard to get to posting on this forum, and only by playing around with the zoom and printing the image from the screen can I read the area that I need to fill in or check box. Any and all help would be appreciated. I really do not want to re-install the operating system.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i've never had a desktop pc broken down on me while its on, but i've had 2 desktop pcs when i was younger and they all malfunctioned whenever i had turned them off and back on again, the agonizing series of beeps when the bios boot would usually indicate a failure in hardrive or mobo...even though every componet was working fine the day before when i had turned it off. Most of my friends' desktop pcs broke in a similar manner to mine; they were all perfectly funcational, but when the next time they are turned on, something in the mobo breaks/malfunction/fries.

i've read that heat will shorten a desktop pc's lifespan, and that a pc left turned on continuously will experience a shorter lifespan compared to pcs who are regularly turned off and cooled down, however i've learnt from a friend who works in the local library that the internet pcs there for the past 5 years have never been turned off since all 80 or so of them are secured and locked inside the desk drawer and they decided that it would take too much time to have to manually turn them on on each floor one by one. for the record mainframe/severs they are only putted on Sleep mode and its been like this since the library opened 5 years ago and they've only had 6 pcs broken down, meanwhile all my classmates and friends at the university, most with branded pcs like hp and dell all had their pcs replaced on avarge by the third year from when they purchased it, ALL of them having their pc s... A:PC longevity: what usually causes PCs to malfunction?

I turn my computer off when I don't plan on using it for awhile.
My first W98 computer (updated to XP) is still running great .. As great as they ran back then

All components have a failure rating in MTBF .. Mean Time Between Failure .. (Measured in hours)
Why run it all the time and use up the hours ??

Probably the shortest life span components are the Fans, Hard Drive and Monitor .. (CRT or LCD backlites)
Why let it run all the time and collect more dust that means you'll have to clean it more often ..
or have something fail prematurity due to overheating.

So far .. I've had a HDD fail, Two fans and the backlites get weak in two LCD monitors.

Probably the worst culprit is the bearings in the HDD ..
When they start getting sloppy due to age/wear, The HD can start having trouble reading and writing.

Hi all,
newbie here, lol
I've been reading through some of the past posts but either i've missed or cant find anything that may help with a minor (well big) problem i got. A few weeks ago I changed a screen on a Hp 6753s laptop it worked perfectly, but i got told by a friend that it picked up a virus something like windows defender, but it wasnt windows (microsoft) I've scanned the hard drive and cleared any virus infestations on it, I've done full check on it, repairing any bad sectors it may have had, but still it wouldnt boot past the bois. i reformatted it, wiped it completely and started to re-install windows vista back onto it, but once it gets to the vista screen it hangs.
At first i thought it was the hard drive, so i went out and bought a new one, but again, putting the operating system on, it copies the files off the dvd but hangs after you input the country, keyboard settings. the hard drive i know works, because both were tested on different laptops, i actually installed the OS on friends laptop, and transfered that hard drive to my laptop, but it hangs on the vista logo.
I also have just tried flashing the bois, but that wont work, it wont boot from either the dvd or memory pen. I've also tried putting a non windows OS on it and same thing, one files copied it hangs.
So can anyone tell me, suggest any ideas or has the virus destroyed mainboard?
thanks in advance

From one day to another, those two devices dissapeared from My PC in Win 2000.
According to windows, their is a malfunction with both drivers (conected with the same IDE cable), in which windows cannot load their drivers (error called: code 31) for the ATAPI CDROM and the HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8240B devices.

I tried to remove and re-install their drivers (then reboot the system) and nothing happened . Then i tried updating those drivers but the problem still persists.

I would be enormously thankful if some one could help me with this, since i need inmediatetely those devices to work.

I have had bad cables that have done the same thing. Try new cable.

JA little over 1 year old. Nothing but problems so far with wireless adapter constantly malfunctioning. We've been just dealing with it through frequent restarts. However, about a month ago the keyboard started going nuts. Example: \pmjhx\\pmjhx\pmjhx\pmjhx\pmjhx\pmjhx That is from typing a "down arrow" and a "backspace." Sometimes half the keys will do this, and sometimes its only one or two. sometimes the keyboard will just start typing an endless string of these and the only way to stop it is to take the batteries out. Would like to avoid purchasing another keyboard if possible. Any idea whats happening here? We've tried new batteries and key removal with cleaning.

I have the T-Mobile MDA, which uses Microsoft Mobile 5.0. Since I installed Norton Anti-Virus, Firewall & System Works 2006, I cannot sync my device. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Active Sync, have checked the firewall, have hard-reset the mobile device, used Norton Go Back and still get the error code 85010014. For some reason I get the following message: "Active Sync encountered a problem on the desktop. Support Code 85010014. I feel like I have tried everything and now my hard-reset has caused me to have a pda with no information since nothing will sync. HELP! thanks.

I have a computer that is running very slowly of late. After a long search, i realized that if I close the svchost.exe process that is running RPCSs, then the computer runs with normal speed again. Of course, then the computer cannot communicate with the RPC server and everything from cut & paste to Microsoft Oulook goes crazy. I've already checked for viruses and trojans, so I am stumped on how to fix it. Anyone have any clues as to how I can fix the problem?

A:RPcSs Malfunction

Please do this. Click here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html to download Hijack This. It’s very important that you save it to its own folder on your hard drive, such as program files (not temporary files or the desktop), so that it can create proper back-ups and be able to restore them if necessary.
Close all open windows and open Hijack This. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”. Click on “Save Log” and then save it to NotePad. Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.

DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET, most items that appear in the log are harmless or even needed.

I moved your thread from Windows 7 to Web & Email.

Can we assume that your OS is Windows 7?

What browser? Have you tried another one?

What may have changed since it last worked OK? Installed or uninstalled an application? An update to something? Etc.?

When you want to bring up Task Monitor with the ctrl+alt+del keys you can't use the usual ones as I or most others do. You have to press the Alt Gr key + the right hand ctrl key and the del key above the cursor keys. It did work as normal up to 3 weeks ago. Thelanguage selection is still correct English British in control panel as are all other settings.
