Z710 Ideapad - External 4k Monitor

Q: Z710 Ideapad - External 4k Monitor

Hi everybody, I have the plan to connect a 4k Monitor to my current Z710 Ideapad. As the laptop comes with the GeForce GT745M, which supports resolutions up to 3840x2160 I don't see any bottle neck here. For your reference: Specs of the GT745Mhttps://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gt-745m/specifications But how about the HDMI socket? WIth what kind of HDMI Port comes the Z710? v1.0 or v1.4, v1,4a?That's very important to know and unfortantely I couldn't find anything about it in the manual of the Z710 Ideapad. Thanks in advance for your help, Kind regards,Michael

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I cannot see fan options except fan speed in any of those programs. Also I cannot install drivers for my second graphic card 740m as it states that graphic card isnt available at all. And yet I see it on board and it worked until these problems with fan came up. I have been looking for the solution all through the internet and forums tried many of the solutions but nothing worked for me. Can anyone help ?

My new Ideapad 320-I7IKB worked great for one week with an external HDMI Samsung S27E310 monitor. Then the external monitor started blinking off for about one second, then back on. It blinked off every few minutes. It started happening so often it became unusable. This external monitor worked flawlessly for six months with an HP laptop.  I can move the cable back and forth between my Ideapd and the HP Laptop - works great with HP, blinks with the Lenovo.  I updated all of the Lenovo drivers, did not help.  I called Lenovo support, they bumped me to third tier, to their software group, and they wanted $69 to work on it (again, one week old Ideapad still under warranty).I otherwise really like this Lenovo, I wish it would work with an external monitor.  Looks like I will either need to return this Ideapad or start purchasing random new external monitors hoping that one of them will be compatible with Lenovo's HDMI driver.

Hi all,
I'm trying to connect an external monitor to my Ideapad 100 (windows 10) using the HDMI port but it is not detecting it.
I previously used the same monitor with another laptop under Windows 7 with the VGA port and it worked just fine.

I've updated both display adapters softwares as well as the monitor software and restarted both the monitor and my laptop multiple times but it still won't work.
I tried to download the driver for my monitor but they only have it until windows 8...

Can anyone please help?
Thanks a lot

this IdeaPad 510-15isk of mine the built-in screen is defective so i attached a VGA monitor to the VGA port. i learned somewhere that when a laptop senses, on bootup, that there is an external monitor connected it should send its display to the external device. my laptop doesn't do that and instead it uses the built-in display which i cannot see because it's defective. i also try to get into the CMOS settings using that Novo button but it since it shows the display using the built-in LCD screen i am unable to check nor configure the CMOS to direct all output to external display (which i'm assuming is controlled by the CMOS). since finding how to goto the CMOS settings on this laptop (that Novo button is too small is not well labelled) i thought there might be some hidden feature that would allow me to force the display to go to the external device. btw, the F10 hotkey that is supposed to toggle the display output doesn't do anything. appreciate any help.

I'm looking to buy an external monitor for my Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13 (Intel Core i5/Intel HD 4000). More specifically, I would like to drive a 2560x1440 monitor. By looking under the generic external monitor properties in Windows, I discovered the maximum supported resolution is 2560x1600 at 60 Hz for the Intel HD 4000. However, the laptop only has an hdmi port for video output, but I cannot find the supported hdmi standard versions (i.e. if it is 1.3 or 1.4) to figure out the maximum refresh rate I could get. On another thread on these forums (here) some user suggested that the supported hdmi versions should be 1.3 and 1.4, while other users reported that they managed to drive a 2560x1440 monitor but they did not state the resulting refresh rate. How can I proceed to discover the maximum refresh rates I could get with a 2560x1440 resolution? Secondly, I would like to ask if it is possible to use an usb 3.0 to display port adapter to drive the monitor at 60 Hz, and if I could have some suggestions on which type of adapter I should buy in that case.Thank you for your help in advance.

Hello, I had a z580, and the screen broke. Being a 5ish year old laptop, I decided to just remove the screen and use it connected to an external monitor. However, when I boot to bios using the novo button, nothing is displayed on the external monitor. I believe it is trying to display on the internal monitor, which is now gone. Switching to the VGA port on my monitor comes back with "No signal". My question is, how can I get the bios to show on an external monitor through the VGA port? Is there a certain key combination I have to press while in bios? Thank you!

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Z710 Laptop is not booting to Windows and displaying initial error, I suggest you to access the BIOS menu and change the first boot device to HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and check if the issue persists. To access BIOS menu turn OFF the computer and then press the NOVO button which is located beside the power button and select BIOS utility, then under boot menu change the HDD to first boot device under boot order. Now click on F10 to save the changes.

Do post us back if the issue persists

Best Regards

I'm trying to Install Debian GNU/Linux on my Windows 8 Ideapad Z710, and I can't even get my laptop to boot from external media. From the InsydeH20 Setup Utility, I've so far disabled Secure Boot, set Boot Mode to UEFI, enabled USB Boot, enabled PXE Boot to LAN, and set my EFI boot order to 1) EFI Network 0 for IPv4, 2) EFI Network 0 for IPv6, then 3) Windows Boot Manager (no other options). I'm not actually trying to boot from a network, I just want to boot from the onboard DVD drive or my USB DVD drive. When I boot with these settings, I get the error: EFI Network 0 for IPv4 (...) boot failed, then a similar one for IPv6, then it boots to Windows. Why can't I boot from DVD or USB? Another thing I've tried is setting Boot Mode to Legacy Support and Boot Priority to Legacy First (with Secure Boot disabled) which results in my laptop booting to straight to Windows even when USB ODD is first in the boot order. Please tell me how to boot to a Linux DVD or USB on this machine! This was major purchase for me, and if I can't install Linux on it, this laptop is totally useless for me. Please respond.

Hi to evreyone! So recently I bought a brand new Lenovo Z710 (i7-4700mq, intel hd 4600 and nvidia gt745m). I then installed windows 8.1 (genuine) and all the drivers on the cd that came with the machine. But it seems there is a big problem with the graphics card. Nvidia gt745 seems like its not there. The Geforce Experience and nvidia control panel fail to recognize it, although it's there on Windows Driver Manager. When I try to load a game (WOW) it crashes on the loading screen. "Display driver has stopped responding..." bubble appears and a minute or so afterwards, there is a bsod. The game works on the integrated card (intel hd 4600) when nvidia is disabled or its driver is uninstalled.I tried reinstalling the drivers, downloading and installing the recent ones, removing all graphic drivers and reintalling them in different order, tried safe mode, changed some bios settings, but still nothing happened.Could this be any kind of driver compatibility issue or simply a windows thing, or is it a hardware problem? Could the nvidia be faulty or the laptop itself? I want to try anything before turning it back to where I bought it for a look... So your ideas will be vastly appreciated. Thanks!

Can this laptop be run from a 24V supply, too?Or is that voltage too high?(Two 12V batteries i series)

A:Power supply for IdeaPad Z710

The battery voltage and power supply voltage have nothing to do with each other. It has integrated voltage regulation modules that convert the voltage to the required voltages to power the device and simultaneously drive the battery. The voltage has to match with what the input is designed for, and that is 20V in the Z710. The amperage can basically be higher than required as the devices request an amperage and use how much they need (for the Z710 type 80AK, there were three power supplies: 20V on each, but with either 3.25, 4.5 or 6.75 Amps for 65, 90 or 130 Watts power output), but a differing voltage (unless your device is made for special fast charging types oder mostly USB Type-C, which most laptops aren't) will most likely fry your motherboard/batteries. By the way, the batteries in your Z710 run at either 14.4 or 14.8 Volts, not 12V.

I purchased my Z710 Laptop 2-3 years ago. Currently I seem to suffer from thermal throttling on both the CPU(i7-4700mq)(85C) and GPU(gt-745m)(75C). I tried cleaning dust from the fan and heatsink but that did not seem to solve the issue. I tried to underclock CPU down to 2.4GHz but still reaches 85C and GPU still throttles as well. So I am thinking of two options:1) Buy a laptop cooling pad and put it under the exposed underside of the laptop and hope that it can cool it down.2)Replace the thermal paste of the CPU and GPU (boy oh boy how sketchy this one is, but exciting at the same time!) and hope for the best? I am looking for your advice on which of these I should choose or if there is anything I am missing? Thank you in advance!

My Lenovo ideapad Z710, after a year of use started telling me the battery was not the correct battery.  I thought the battery might have died.  I eventually bought a replacement battery.  The new battery gets the same message.  My wife has a different model but uses the same battery.  My OEM battery does not function in her machine but the new one does.  So it appears that my machine has a problem recognizing the proper battery.  Once I accept the message, the machine boots and runs fine plugged in.  The battery does not charge so I assume the machine is protecting itself from improper battery.  The new battery is a DR.BATTERY Notebook battery with a two year warranty.  When I was shopping for the battery, there were numerous suppliers and of course they all claimed to have only the highest quality that meets or exceeds the original battery specs. Does anyone know a solution?  Could it be a software problem?  I had assumed it was a hardware problem.  The computer works fine as desktop machine, but with no battery it is pretty worthless as a portable.

I've been running this Z580 for a year or so, and updated to Windows 10 a couple of months ago. Both the laptop display and an external monitor (HPw1907 vga) have been working fine. The other day, the external monitor just stopped working.   I check the device manager and the Intel HD Graphics 4000 display adapter is disabled, due to a Code 43. I have tried rolling back to an earlier restore point, I've uninstalled and reinstalled several versions of the Intel graphics adapter, up through the current compatible one. The most recent display adapter driver from Intel is apparently not hardware compatible with this adapter. The funny thing, is that the driver wants to work! On booting, while the black and white Lenovo splash screen is displayed, with the little circular Windows logo circling around, I can move the cursor back and forth between monitors. As soon as the screen turns blue (I assume with Windows drivers loading) the external monitor blanks out and I'm back to one screen.  Based on that behavior, I'm wondering if it's not a display driver that is specfically the problem, since I've loaded up the latest drivers several times, but if maybe a recent Windows update has sneaked in a driver or component for something else that is causing the Intel driver to crash. Any thoughts?  Back in earlier versions of Windows, you could have the system load one component at a time during boot, so you could check for incompatibilities. So, if the... Read more

2. My hard drive is making continuous beeping sounds.

A:Lenovo Ideapad Z710 - No Bootable Device

Good day and welcome to the community.Sorry you're having difficulty.
The messages you're seeing mean that your hard drive is non-bootable, either a hardware failure or the Windows boot "stuff" is corrupt. When that happens, the BIOS tries to step through boot-up options, and often the last is an attempt to boot from a network server (via PXE boot).

If you boot your machine to its BIOS, is the HDD even showing on the Startup tab? If not, it's most likely a true hardware issue.Regards.

I would not have bothered making an account here if I could have found a fix otherwise. The battery is not charging AND it is not detected. I want to stress this because I have seen a million and one webpages for batteries that were plugged in but not charging. Mine is not detected. I have checked my power settings, I have done a power drain (take out batter and adapter, hold power button), I have restarted, I have looked for updates, and I have uninstalled the two battery things in the device manager and restarted again. I did NOT do battery gauage reset because the battery is not detected (I have Windows 8, so Energy Manager rather than Power Manager). I have not touched the BIOS because I'm wary of anything else going wrong. I bought this laptop in December. It is quite new, still under warranty, and even though I use it every day, it is still good and not bogged down or worn down in any way. I have had multiple problems since buying it, even a few right out of the box (shame on you, Lenovo), all of which I was able to fix myself. A:IdeaPad Z710 video upgrade options?

Hi rbettle  ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Amongst most laptops currently available GPU are built in from factory to have it fixed on the motherboard therefore not upgradable which includes Z710 .

Offered upgradable parts are shown on the hardware manual for reference on users doing upgrades but do not include GPU. FRU list of motherboards also on the same manual.

Availability of NVIDIA graphics models varies by supply as product specification show on machine variants (different machine number for each variants).

Hey, I have an afterglow headset for gaming. It has a line out 3mm headphone jack on it, and a USB.
Usually, the USB controls the Mic, and the headphone jack controls the audio. But when I plug it in, the sound is coming through the USB (Chat volume), unless I plug it into another power source, like a wall charger for phones. Than the sound will come through the headphone/Line out jack, allowing me to use the Bass boost feature. My brother has the same headset, and it does the same on my computer, and I have no idea why. The sound sounds like garbage coming through the USB. Also my laptop only has one Line out jack. I think the Line in and Line out jacks are combined into one. I don't know if that is messing it up.
So when I have the USB and Line out plugged into my laptop, the sound level is controlled by moving the adjuster to the "Chat" volume, rather than the "Game volume". But if I plug the USB into a wall wart, and the headphone jack into the laptops line out jack, it's normal and controlled by the game volume adjuster on the headset. But than the MIC won't work since it's through the USB.

What are the specifications of your Z710?How much Watts does your AC adapter have? You should have at least a 90W (dual core) or 135W (quad core) AC adapter.Maybe you need a new AC adapter if it's faulty.

Last week I bought the Lenovo Ideapad 320-15IKB. So far I am pretty satisfied, but I'm having trouble connecting it to my external monitor with a HDMI cable. I've tried multiple HDMI cables, tried the monitor with another laptop and it worked fine, I also bought a USB-C to HDMI converter and that's not working either. So I don't think it's a hardware problem. In the picture I added you can cleary see the laptop detects my external monitor (LG IPS FULLHD) as the second screen, but on the monitor I get a "no signal message". I looked at all the topics similar to mine, but haven't found a solution yet. Anyone familiar with this problem? Thanks.

A:Can't connect external monitor to Ideapad 320-15IKB with HDMI cable

Hi, welcome to the forum.

My guessing on this are  will be:

1) Try the "Windows Key + P" combination, try the extend and duplicate to see if you get an image on the monitor.
2) You already tried different HDMI cables, it may be interesting to also check some other TV that  you may have arround to see if you get image. Also, if you use some apdater (DP to HDMI or other) it may be interesting to try some others.
3) Go to  the support site of the "Ideapad 320-15IKB" and update the BIOS and the Video drivers. Lenovo Vantage can also help you to have you drivers up to date.

After trying that, if you get no good results, maybe it is some hardware issue.

Regards

How do you display bios to an external monitor for a Lenovo Ideapad u530 running Windows 10? I can get Windows 10 login page to show on the external monitor but not the bios details. Reason: I have an almost non-functional laptop screen so I'm using the external monitor. What I see in the bios screen (on the almost non-functional laptop screen) is Insydeh20 setup utility. Is there an option in this utility to force the bios to the external monitor?
