Why can't Windows 7 share folders with Windows 10 while Windows Fire Wall is on?

Q: Why can't Windows 7 share folders with Windows 10 while Windows Fire Wall is on?

I'm not too sure whether this is related to Windows 7 or Windows 10.
I've found Windows 7 has to have its Windows Fire Wall down in order to have its folders shared with Windows 10.
However the other way is not true.
Windows 10 can have Windows Fire Wall up while sharing its folders with Windows 7.
In other words while fire wall is up on both Windows 7 system and Windows 10 system, Windows 7 system can access shared folders on Windows 10 without any problem while in the meantime Windows 10 system cannot access Windows 7 system at all.

Preferred Solution: Why can't Windows 7 share folders with Windows 10 while Windows Fire Wall is on?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey all,

Firstly I hope i have posted this in the right forum.

As the name states I can not use any of my windows security I know this is because of a fake anti virus i had at one point, I also can't install any other virus protection or firewalls onto my computer.

I'm assuming this has to do with what the virus has done with my computers registry, correct me if I'm wrong.

I want to restore my registry back to its default I have tried the reg restore /? command in cmd but it comes up with (see attached picture) and am not sure what this means or for the next step for me to take to continue the command.

Is there any down side to restoring my registry to its default as well?

Hello -
I' am trying to get my Blackjack to connect to my computer with Active Sync, my computer recognizes the device but still it will not connect. I have been trying to troubleshoot this problem but have had no luck, I went to Microsofts troubleshoot page (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...ubleshoot.mspx) and was told to make some changes to my Windows Firewall.

I click Start > Control Panel > and double click Windows Fire wall, but when I double click this nothing happens and I get this error "Due to an aunidentified problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall Settings".

Can someone please help me, I need to connect my phone to my computer so I can use it to it's full capabilities.

So I've had windows 7 recovery virus earlier in the day and I removed it using the guide that was here in these forums/site. I unhid all the files/icons and removed the virus completely however I have a issue...

Something wasnt right I felt, so I went and checked different parts of my computer in control panel and I noticed that the Fire Wall was off.

So it said to click here to use recommended settings which I did however a error message popped up:

"Windows Firewall cant change some of your settings.

Error Code 0x80070424"

So I checked online to see if there was a solution however I could not find one but a result of it according to some sites was that it could of been a result of the cleaning of the virus via a third party software (malware bytes or etc).

I also checked the services to see if I can activate Windows Fire Wall but it wasnt even there...

So I am wondering now what I should do? Please help me.

P.S. Windows Security Service Center isnt working either...

I would install Bitdefender antivirus plus and use the windows firewall of windows 7
It seems to be a 2 way firewall.
I also enable the SPI firewall of my linksys router E2500
The devices I use are all wifi devices: 2 laptops, an ipad and a smartphone.

Is this windows firewall secure enough?

A:spi firewall + windows fire wall secure enough?

Windows Firewall is a 2 way firewall but the default setting allows all outbound connections so it's basically a 1 way firewall in the default state.
It's a good firewall. I only recommend advanced users to take control also over the outbound connections as it can be difficult to configure properly.

Your router will probably block all connection attempts from the Internet which means the Windows Firewall won't have to do much. Unless you've directly or indirectly opened up ports in the router with Remote Management, Port Forwards, UPnP etc.
You can try with the different tests in the service ShieldsUp for example: https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
Then disable Windows Firewall and run the tests again and you'll know how the router is protecting you.

If the router blocks all incoming Internet connections it means the Windows Firewall is left taking care of connections from other devices inside your local network (LAN).

Hello. Windows Security Center is telling me that ZoneAlarm firewall is currently turned off. Windows Firewall is off, and ZA is currently running. Is there any way to fix this problem without telling Windows not to monitor it?

This Just Started today, did system restore; no joy there.
WIN XP Pro SP2
ZA Pro v5.5.094.000
AVG AV v7.xxx

More info;
It Seems to be a Windows Issue. I Downloaded the latest update 6.1.737 did a clean install. Ran the setup wizard restarted my PC Windows does not recognize ZA pro. It (Win XP) asks if I would like to turn on Windows FW, I said yes, which causes a message "Windows can not turn on its firewall". But Windows shows their FW is On and ZA pro is functioning correctly.

I have Screen Shots but am unable to upload them.

A:Windows Fire Wall Stoped Reconizing Za Pro

Hi,

First of all Welcome to Bleepingcomputer.com, Hope all your queries will get answered here.

If you have ZA and its in working condition then all you need is to say windwos that I will manuly monitor my Firewall Information.

Herez how you can do that:

Goto Start-> Settings-> Control Panel -> Security Center

On the security Center if you have ur windows firewall turned off then it will show the status as OFF, click on Recommendations button below and put a check mark on "I Have a firewall Solution ... " and click OK.

This will work for you.

My problem is outlined in these two threads and stated better then I can; they also show the same errors im getting with some pictures at these two links .

1 Enable Windows 10 firewall to install fonts - 404 Tech Support

2. Unable to install fonts on Windows 10 - Super User
Yet they don't offer a solution. Windows Fire Wall will not Start. Fonts Will Not install. These issues are supposedly related.
I suspect a hacker , after I used some questionable software.; that is what I believe caused this. But I am unsure.

All I know is I have to get this issue resolved so I can install my fonts and get back to work. I'm losing money because clients want me to design for them, and I can't without getting these fonts installed.

A:Fire Wall Question? Do I Really Need 3 Fire Walls Running At The Same Time

I am not familiar with your specific modem, but as it is external to your computer it will not adversely affect the system. It is likely a firmware or hardware firewall. This is a good thing, and provides an additional layer of protection. Usually a third party firewall turns off the native Windows firewall by default. Zone Alarm, for example. I am suprised that McAffee does not. It is not necessary to have both on, and since McAfee is 2-way (Program alerts) I suggest that you use it. Windows can be told to stop "bothering" you about the firewall situation. Security Center is found in the Control Panel. Once open, notice the words "Change the way Security Center alerts me" on the left. After clicking there, a dialog will open in which you can arrange the alerts to your preferences.

I have 2 windows 7 pc's with same login-name/password that I can password protected share fine folders between them. Fron Explorer I right-click a folder and share it to the other pc by entering in the login-name/password. I know this is how it is suppose to work and it does. Now I'm trying to share folders between a newer windows 8.1 pc, the windows 7 pc's and think I know why it does not work, but not how to fix it. This is because I do not know windows 8.1 very well.

The Windows 8.1 pc has a different login/user-name of "uuuuu ttttt", a different password pwp, a ms account of [email protected] a computer name cccc and the same workgroup name as the 2 win 7 pc's. I put a "uuuuu ttttt" user account with the pwp password on a win 7 pc which has a computername pc-pc, a login-name hh and the same password pw. I also put a hh/pw user account on the win 8.1 pc.

No matter what I enter for for a computer/user name when I try to share a win 7 folder with the specific windows 8 user account it says it cannot find that user. I think I should type in the Add box "cccc\uuuuu ttttt".

When I try to share a win 8.1 folder ff it goes to advanced sharing and I can share, but does not let me exactly specify the the win 7 user, but just a general share. The win 7 pc then shows the share under network, but right clicking it says I do not have permissions for \\cccc\ff"

I do not seem to understand sharing in either direction with a windows 8.1 pc. ... Read more

I've got a networking problem here. My main computer (PC1) shared a folder called "shared$." I tried to connect to that folder on my laptop (PC2) but I've got an error message "\\PC1\shared$" is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource... contact administrator... bla bla.. Logon failure: user account restriction. Possible reasons are blank passwords not allowed, logon hour restrictions, or a policy restriction has been enforced."

I'm not connected to any domain, but all my PCs are on the same workgroup named "WORKGROUP." When I tried to browse the Microsoft Windows Network->WORKGROUP folder from PC2, I can see PC1 in the list, but the same error pops up when I tried to browse PC1. However, I can browse PC1 without any problems from PC1 itself.

Does anyone know how I can allow PC2 to access PC1 again? Both are using Windows XP w/ ZoneAlarm settings switched to "Low (Off)"

Hi guys,

This is my first post, so please accept my apologies if i make any mistakes.

I've recently setup a media pc and have installed a program called XBMC, but my question is mainly related to Windows 7 and Network Sharing

SCENARIO
Currently i have the following:-
ONE Media PC with 2 user accounts (Administrator and MediaPC):
Windows 7 Ultimate & XBMC on C: (250gb hard drive)
Media files on D: (1TB hard drive)
ONE Office/Gaming PC (One user account - Billy) - only i use it
ONE Laptop (wireless) - (One user account - Family) kids/family use it
All the above computers are on Win 7 connected on the same homegroup to my virgin media superhub.

GOAL
I want to network share the Media PC - D: drive with my Office PC (Billy Account) which should have FULL READ/WRITE/MODIFY RIGHTS access.

At the same time, I want to Totally DENY ACCESS to the kids laptop (Family Account), so they cannot SEE the media drive.

Is this possible? If so, how do i go about implementing it? I've got a limited knowledge of networking, so please could you explain exactly what i need to do?

Thanks!

A:How do I Network Share Folders? (Windows 7)

This should help follow step #5: Permissions - Allow or Deny Users and Groups

Since you have 7 Ultimate this may also help: Group Policy - Apply to a Specific User or Group

But if you use the Group Policy Editor you should also use this for security: Local Users and Groups MMC Snap-in - Enable or Disable

Apply the settings from the machine that has the media drive.

May I ask, are both machines Windows 7?

Are you trying to share folders and files amongst your computers in your home? And, perhaps, with certain specific others "across The Net"? I'm familiar with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.
I do know certain folders that are named in the left side menu of Explorer.exe cannot be accessed, seen or shared.
From experience, I do not "tree-climb" through Libraries or even My Documents. I only "tree-climb," view, share folders that are listed underneath Explorer's Computer break out.

I've got a strange problem dealing with a 2012 R2 share.  We have a lab with 30 Windows 7 Enterprise workstations.  They all have the same desktop via a GPO applied folder redirection to a share on the above mentioned 2012 R2 server.  All
but 4 of them can connect and pull the desktop with the appropriate shortcuts, network folders, etc.

So the share permissions have no explicit denies.  In an effort to resolve this issue I've added both Everyone and Authenticated Users with Read permissions on top of the appropriate AD Group object that already had Read permissions and of
course SYSTEM and Domain Admins with Full Control.  The NTFS permissions have of course CREATOR OWNER, SYSTEM, and Domain Admins with Full Control.  The appropriate AD Group also has Read permissions.  No explicit NTFS denies either.

Using either the same account that belongs to the appropriate AD Group or my Domain Admin account (which doesn't have the redirected desktop) I can login to all workstations and all but the above mentioned four get the folder redirected desktop.
When I authenticate with my DA account and try to connect to the share on those four computers I get the same error the user gets:

I have recently downloaded SP2 and all seemed to be going well. The Security Centre recoginsed my anti-virus software (AVG) and apart from a minor glitch which means that I must reboot my PC to get the Security Centre to change from a red to a green light when I update the software all was well.

However I have read that the beefed up firewall provided with SP2 can conflict with existing products - in my case Zonealarm and accordingly I switched the windows firewall off.

I now have a 'check status' red light on the Security Centre with a message stating "Zonealarm is installed but its status is unknown"

I have checked with the Zonealarm software which indicates all is functioning normally - should I just ignore the warning message (which I don't really want to do) or switch the Windows firewall back on and risk possible conflict. Is there a way I can get Windows to recognise the status of my firewall?
Any help would be appreciated.

If you are running XP as your OS, then it does have a firewall, but it only works one way. It is my opinion that you need both a good firewall and an antivirus program if you are connected to the internet. These will help protect you against viruses and trojans. But the best thing you can do is don't open executable attachments in e-mail and don't file share.

You can get Zone Alarm free here

You can get AVG antivirus free here

That's my view.

im trying to view pages on the internet and i keep getting messages that say,

The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

please help me figure out why its doing this.

I use Comodo and am now curious, . . I'd like
to know what is meant when the words in the box
mention hyjack, etc.

I now notice that the system that saves previous web sites
visited, allows me to go to those sites without using a password, .
is it possible that someone besides my self can do that to or with in
my browser ?

A:Comodo Fire Wall

Yes it is possible if you leave your computer unlocked and logged into your account.

If you are concerned with your security, then I would recommend that when you leave your computer press the Windows Key and the L key at the same time. This will lock your computer, and will prompt for a password which I highly recommend setting via User Accounts in Control Panel.

I keep getting an alert stating that a certain IP address is trying to access my computer. I had a virus and did a fresh install of windows. This started afterwards. My firewall is blocking it but it still concerns me. I did a search on it and the results just pointed to something in Canada and it did not mean much to me. How can I figure out what this is and if it is a threat.

A:I Am Getting An Alert From My Fire Wall.

Without more information, like what the traffic log says about it, it's hard to answer you. If you just reinstalled windows then you are starting fresh "training" your firewall. What firewall are you using?

But basically, what are you doing when this happens? It could be something as simple as a windows service "doing its thing" in the background. If it happens while online, then the alert could be normal. If you're modem is connected, but you're not actually surfing yet, it could still be normal activity. Did you just click to do something, like a link to another site, click for a download?

The general rule is, if you just clicked to do something and an alert comes up, then it's probably safe. But if in doubt, you can say "no", at least temporarily . Then if you repeat what you just did and the warning comes up again, then it's likely safe to say "yes" and then click "remember this setting" so you won't be bothered with warnings again for that particular thing.

You said your firewall is already blocking it. If you're able to do everything you need to do with it blocked, then set your firewall to always block it ("remember"), and that will get rid of the annoying notices.

You may still be infected. Recommendations would be going to the link in my signature "Virus Help Instructions" and follow all instructions to a T. Then post your issues follow all advice and steps they have you do to ensure a clean bill of health.
Good luck.

Today I tried to open wp- admin in my website but I faced a page that wrote on it my IP is blocked and it is not whitelisted how can I solve this problem easily and fast because I need to open my website immediately?
thanks a lot in advance.

A:blocking my id by server fire wall

only way is log in via FTP & delete the plugin that is blocking you
safest way is to rename the folder that contains the plugin
it is most probably jetpack, so rename the jetpack folder inside plugins directory to jetpack_old
once you are back in to wordpress admin page , then while still in FTP rename jetpack_old back to jetpack.
Then immediately open jetpack settings, /security/brute force attacks and add yourself to the white list

i've got a satellite connection and i get worried sometimes that some hacker could get in and do some mischief. does anybody have a recommendation for controlling access via fire wall.

i've been using norton av but i'm a little disappointed at the moment - i think i got one of the yaha worms and norton didn't intercept it or recognize it. (i guess that's what makes yaha especially troublesome). i heard about panda software tonight - maybe i'll try it. we had mcaffey for a while and it worked but there were too many popups advertising updates were available for download. is it possible to silence it or keep it in the background?

A:fire-wall and virus protection

Ontrack System suite, has a good antivirus program, and a decent firewall, plus it has a slew of other tools and utilities at a decent price.
The only thing I wouldn't use/install that it comes with is the CrashProof. Since nothing is crashproof, and this type of crash protection junk is known to cause crashes
