Outlook 2003: Lost the Notes field in Calendar "By category" view

Q: Outlook 2003: Lost the Notes field in Calendar "By category" view

Hi: I want to add the Notes field to a Category view of appointments.

I managed to get the Notes field showing by using the Field Chooser, and picking Notes from the All Appointment Fields list.

I later removed the Notes column by dragging it off the bar with column names, and now can't get it back again.

I've looked in the Field chooser, but Notes no longer appears in the All Appointments fields list in Field chooser.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Am using OUtlook 2003 and wondered whether there is a way to simultaneously view the Calendar and Contacts folders on one screen. Thanks.

Maybe someone else has a better idea, but you could open two instances of Outlook and size the screens so that you could view both windows next to each other.

I would like to have the people on my distribution list see only the name of the distribution list in the "To:" field of the e-mail I've sent, rather than the names of all 25 members in the dist list. I'm aware of using the BCC method, but am wondering if there is a better way.

I think this is only possible if you are using a MS Exchange Server distribution list that was set up as 'Hide Distribution List Membership'.

I don't think you can do it with your local distribution list.

I have a tricky problem a user is experiencing with outlook 2003.

He has access to view several other users calendar.

When looking at the calendar view in outlook 2003, down the left hand side he can see each shared calendar he has opened under the “other calendars” section. Each calendar can viewed or hidden by ticking or un-ticking it’s check box.

The problem is for one specific users calendar, this check box refuses to appear, this users calendar can be viewed okay when opened normally. He has tried several other machines and the same problem occurs.

OK, I'm a computer consultant. I help people with whatever issues they have, so by the nature of my job, I see a lot of weird things and even more things that my clients think are weird, and I know that everything pretty much always has a normal explanation. That said, I'm at a loss on this one big time.

My client sends me an email saying "why are my images fading in Outlook" and I say something like "cmon what does fading mean?" She uses her Outlook as a file manager, essentially, which believe me I've told many times is not wise. So she'll create a contact called House Bathroom Pictures and will use the notes field to essentially act like a file folder, pasting images, phone numbers etc into there. Case in point, she has a couple contact files that are over 50 MB in size (if you look at the phone list and add "size" as a column.

So I say I have to see this for myself, and what appears to be happening is that the resolution of the images is being degraded - though not even really that, because you would think that eventually if the resolution was reduced enough and the image then resized bigger again, you'd start to get pixelation. But no, what we get is kinda as if you are taking an image into a photo editor, adding 10% brightness, and saving it again. Repeat that process 5-6 times and you've doubled and tripled the brightness, and the image soon becomes unviewable. I have attached a sample image. Looking at it ag... Read more

Hi This is my first post so excuse me if it's not right.

I run Windows Vista Home Edition SP1 and MS Office 2003.

In Outlook 2003 I categorise my received emails in personal folders. I need to create a general view where I can view all my emails just as if they were still in my Inbox. I want to be able to sort the mails by sender as I'm looking for a specific mail. I'm sure I've seen a default "View all" view before but can't find it now.

Any advice on how to view all of my emails short of taking them all out of the personal folders again? Help!

A:Solved: How can you "view all" in Outlook 2003

Hi Yettiman, and welcome to TSG.

If this is just a temporary need, you could do an advanced search. Select Advanced Search and then put checks in the boxes of the folders you want to list (They have to be in the same PST file) and leave the search criteria blank. The results will include all of the messages in all of the selected folders. You can then sort by clicking the column heading in the results.

EDIT: Yes, you picked the right forum on this site and you provided all of the needed information in your first post.

Does anyone know if its possible to autofill the "from field" as a rule, when your in "another users /delegates" mailbox, so you dont have to add their address in the "from field"? (so it will autopopulate with their email address (and show "on behalf of")?
I hope this was clear.

A:Solved: outlook 2007 "from field" 'on behalf of" issue

No ... its not possible if the user has more than one delegate (that has added them with the applicable rule). from that point on, they will have to choose which person they want to add to "sent" on behalf of field.

However, If they have just one (one only) user who has added them with that permission (to send on behalf of), it will auto-populate with that user.

So, It does not matter even if they are "in" a specific users mailbox (and expect the "on behalf of" to auto fill with that users name). If they have more than one delegate that has added them with that permission, they will still have to choose which user the message will sent "on behalf of"

i figured this out by trail and error etc

Outlook 2003:I'm a massive fan of outlooks Search folders, I receive in excess of 400 emails per day, of which approximately 250 need my attention, even if to reply back and give someone an answer.

A problem I find is that I am so busy with my emails, I often need to clean out my inbox. I do this by setting up basic search folders such as "all emails from my team which are in my inbox only" or "any email sent to me which was part of a distribution list in my inbox only" etc...

This is great for filtering my mail and I would like to create a rule as such:

"All mail within my inbox which has been either replied to forwarded by myself".

I can't seem to find any options and I'm hoping an Outlook guru can help

If you don't know the answer, can you try googling it for me to see if you can find anything, loads of heads are better one...

I have installed Outlook (which looks more like OE than Live mail, perhaps) and started using it. I am fairly happy. The only thing that bugs me is that it starts up with two windows and two tabs, one of which is the calendar functionality. I can close that down again but it is a pain. Is there a way of executing Outlook so that only Inbox appears? I want to disable the calendar completely and never see it again.

I use an online, cloud computing, calendar since I have many computers and waiting for calendars to synchronise is something I can do without.

Here's one for you Outlook gurus. I have talked to a lot of people about this (including 2 Outlook trainers), and they cannot figure it out. I am about at the end of my rope...

Here's the challenge:

A new entry is put into the Outlook 2000 calendar (double click on the time of the event.)
In that window, there is a drop down menu, which is marked "show time as." In that drop down menu, "busy" is chosen.

After the entry is completed and saved, that date does NOT show in bold, on the calendar pane. Instead, there is a grey box around that date.
When clicking on the "attendee availability" tab, the newly entered calendar event, does not even show up. I know the event has been saved, as it DOES show up in the calendar pane (with a grey box around it - not bolded, as it should be.)

Now, here is the weird part-
The entries that I am having problems with, were done in the last week or so. If I enter one right now, it will appear correctly. This only seems to be happening with older dates I have already entered.
Also, if the "show time as" drop down menu is set to "out of office", saved, then set back to "busy", the date will now show correctly.
This is a community calendar which is used by more than one person.

This problem is causing events to be scheduled at the same time, as Outlook is not recognizing when events have already been scheduled for certain dates.

I have a user who had a problem viewing appointments in the public calendars and in her own.

On her view, there are a few appointments that show up, but most do not. This happens even if she is logged in to a different machine.

I changed the current view to be Day/Week/Month View with Auto Preview and this allows her to see all the appointments. If it is set to just the Day/Week/Month View she can't see them.

I checked others, and they do not have the auto preview on to see the appointments. Any idea why this would happen?

OK, here is a good one...I use Outlook 2003 for business and use the calendar to follow up on opportunities. I set up a meeting for a contact and then put what I want to follow up in the subject line. When I want to work, I choose the current view of my calendar as "Active appointments".

Meeting that has been received and accepted, when opened does not have option of "Respond" and once that button is clicked drop down menu should display "Reply, Reply All... Reply with IM, etc."

Note: I did notice when someone schedules an appointment in Calendar this option is not available; but other meeting invites co-worker of mine does have and I don't. Means you are missing the section (Change Response) through which a user can accept or decline events or Outlook appointments.

This issue arises when the following data file exists in the Windows Registry (with the values):

Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Options\Calendar

Any attempt to change to Preview or Calendar view produces the error message, "Could not read the calendar." Changing from Active List to List works some of the time, but inconsistently and sometimes it will hunt for the list and offer the same "Could not read the calendar." error message. This is very frustrating as I find it difficult to manage the list view and am accustomed to seeing the calendar week view.

My organisation has just rolled out an Exchange 2007 Server.
I am a desktop support engineer for my unit. We are setting up access to the server through Outlook 2003.

A small number of Outlook 2003 users get this error message when they are using a .prf file to configure their clients.

"Your Exchange Server administrator has blocked the version of Outlook that you are using. Contact your administrator for assistance."

This is XP SP2 running Outlook 2003 (error occurs on Office, Office SP2 and Office SP3) connecting to Exchange 2007.

I have tried tried applying SP2 and SP3 to Office and completely reinstalling Office but it still occurs.

I am told by the Server Administrators that this is a local problem so I am not getting any help from them. I tend to believe them that it's not server side because I set one of the profiles up on two PCs next to eachother. On one it worked fine but on the other it had this error message. I could not see a difference in the two Outlook installations.
I have read this article here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924625 but a lot of the questions it asks and tests involve having administrator access over the server which I do not have.

Does anyone know of anything in the local Office installation that I do have control over that has been known to cause this?

All the best,

A:Solved: Outlook 2003/Exchange 2007 - "Your Version of Outlook has been blocked..."

Hi we managed to find the solution so I'm posting it here to help others.

We inherited a number of builds that were done by other companies. It appears these builds have in the past had previous versions of Office installed. This has resulted in registry keys lurking around from the old installs.

Once we removed these registry entries it worked.

Best way to do this that I could think of is to

1) Uninstall Office and then search the registry for any references to Outlook. You can do this using AML Free Registry Cleaner http://www.amltools.com/ (which has a search function). Ignore any hits for Outlook Express you are only insterested in Office Outlook.

2) If this is the problem that you are having then you will find registry entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\7.0 or 8.0 or 9.0 etc.

3) Delete any Outlook folders in the above tree. Onc eof the keys in the Outlook folder will be Version and this appears to be what is being read when the server asks what version you have.

4) Reinstall Office - it should now work.

All the best,

This is a question for information about why my networking problem finally was resolved.
I have four PC?s on my network; one Windows 7 and three Windows XP. The Windows 7 PC always sees all three of the other computers. However the Windows XP computers sometimes don?t see the other XP computers when I press ?My Network Places.? Quite by accident I discovered that if I press ?View Workgroup Computers? then ALL the other PC?s in the network DO show up. Furthermore, if I click through "View Workgroup Computers" and access/edit a file on one of the other computers, then this computer will ALSO show up in ?My Network Places.? This behavior seems to be quite consistent and works every time I have tried it. Apparently, this is a workaround to the long vexing problem of why my networked PC?s sometimes don?t show up under ?My Network Places.?

My question: why does ?View Workgroup Computers? apparently always show all the networked PC?s, when ?My Network Places? does so only intermittently or sometimes not at all?

Thanks for any response.

I have set all my option settings in outlook and firefox for outlook 2003 to be my default program for email. Is there anyway I can make outlook to handle these mailto: links on webpages in firefox? I don't think I missed any settings. Thanks in advance.

Our office uses an exchange server that has no configured organizational forms library configured. Whenever any of our client machines selects "choose form", outlook will automatically try to open the Organizational Forms Library and repond with the error: "Form load failed. You don't have apporpriate permission to perform this operation", after which a drop down box will allow the user to switch to a different folder and find the forms to choose, relegating this to a nuisance. In any case, I'm looking for a way to change the default locatoin to look for "choose form" so this error message won't appear every time. Perhaps it's something blatantly obvious, but I haven't found it yet.

Thanks in advance.

Hello all fairly new to this page so would gladly apreciate some advice on trying to get past a niggly error message which is recuring despite carrying out Microsofts Solutions.
Any feedback will be a bonus as this fault is randomly popping up and is incredibly annoying doesnt seem to happen at specific times say when creating a task as microsoft document .
We are recieving a "Could not complete the operation. One or more parameter values are not valid".
For which i have tried a number of differing solutions via microsoft including creating new mail profile, renaming outlook data files, .ost and .pst repairer tool, outlook check and repair facilty as well as removing live meeting which can aparently cause a conflict. We are using Office 2003 SP1 and this is a networked PC gettin mail from Exchange 2003 server. An isolated incident here but still very annoying as other computers run fine using same hardware and OS ) Thanks Again Have fun all

I had a problem where Outlook could not use Word as an e-mail editor. From this board I found a solution, run Regsvr32.exe %Windir%\System32\Ole32.dll, and immediately I was able to use Word as my e-mail editor.

Immediately afterwards when I rebooted, Windows (not Outlook) began behaving in a strange manner. It would load my wallpaper, populate the launch pad with icons, populate the taskbar with the icons for Threat Fire and volume control. Then it pauses for two or three minutes. After that time the balance of the programs in my autostart, firewall-AV-battery backup, load and their icons display in the taskbar.

During the time it is "pausing" none of the icons respond by loading their program. After the two or three minute pause the program whose icon I clicked does load. Equally, clicking Start and a program does nothing until the end of the two or three minutes.

I will be grateful for any help.

Hello -

Using Windows XP Pro with all the available patches and SRs fyi.

I've had this sending phantom messages problem for several months and finally decided to do something about it today I'm posting my case here in the hopes that it might help you fix this issue with Outlook 2003 (and/or possibly other versions of Outlook as well).

In addition to the phantom message issue, I was having an issue where messages would hang around in the Outbox and not be sent even after restarting Outlook 2003, and sometimes even after rebooting. That was causing some real problems, particularly when I wouldn't notice messages were hanging until several hours later lol.

So I started researching both problems at the same time, and just for kicks decided to change the port for outgoing mail (SMTP) to see if it helped with the stuck/hanging messages in the outbox. I set my main email account to use port 465 with SSL. I then sent a test message to myself and watched to see if it got hung up, but it did not. Cool, I thought, that might be one problem solved.

Then, before I received the test message back, I saw two read receipts arrive in the inbox - they were from January of this year! Having read that the "Sending 1 of X messages - when the outbox is empty" issue in Outlook can be related to read receipts I was curious if that problem would go away as well.

Sure enough I sent another test message, and for the first time in months Outlook said "Sending 1 of 1 ... Read more

Just wondering if there is a way to remove the automatic phone number formatting in Outlook 2003's contacts?

instead of its auto (xx) xxxx-xxxx when I enter in a mobile number I'd like it just as xxxxxxxxxx with NO formatting at all.

When I try to "Send on Behalf" an email in mailbox that I have the appropriate delegated permissions where the email was saved in the Drafts folder my credentials are in the "From" field once the recipient receives the message. Even though I add the mailbox owner's name in the "From" field before sending.

Any ideas? This only happens when a message is stored in the Drafts folder. And to the best of my knowledge I used to be able to send from Drafts without issue.

Thanks for the assistance.

Did you try changing the from field to represent the mailbox you are trying to send on behalf of. Also on the Exchange server they can give you implicit rights which will make it not say sent on behalf of.
