I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, Try the following. Download the Realtek HD Audio installer version on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72117.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72105.exe When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter. Hold down the Power button continuously for 20 seconds then release it. Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, restart the notebook and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

Hi guys, I am expiriencing an annoying problem. Recenlty i bought Creative Hitz headphones and I noticed that I am getting louder and better sounding with deep basses sound while using them on my iphone than using them on my laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I don't like this and I often find myself using the phone to listen to music rather than using the laptop. But i don't think the problem is in the headphones. I mean the sound from this laptop specific is quieter than the sound of my mom's HP. Maybe the problem is in the laptop?
So if anybody knows how I can fix this, please tell me.
Laptop : Asus K53SD
Soundcard : Don't know what it is, i'll drop a screenshot from the device manager tab

What is the Razer Surround Audio Controller" used for?

In the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound should be a Realtek HD Audio Manager. There are Equalizer settings that will give you control over the sound and more bass if you want it.

I have tried setting volume to max on all devices and using loudness equalization. The audio is still pretty quiet, and youtube videos are even quieter. I could of sworn it was louder at one point but I can't find anything to adjust. A flat DB modifier would be great.

first check your drivers
Type device manager in search

Go to the audio tab. Is your sound card listed? dows it have a yellow triangle on it? Are there any other "unknown" drivers that do have yellow triangles on them?

So sometime within the last couple of weeks the sound on my computer got turned down to the point where it's almost inaudible, and I can't figure out how to get it back up.

I'm not sure, but I suspect that this happened when I installed the logitech quickcam chat I bought. As part of the installation process it runs an audio configuration wizard sort of thing. I have since removed this software thinking it would fix the problem, but that didn't help.

I currently have checked the volume on my headphones as well as my speakers, the volume in the notification area, the mixer, several media player programs (itunes, vlc, WMP) they're all at max. Am I missing a volume control somewhere? How can I fix this?

My system is Vista Ultimate X64 SP1, I am using the Nforce 680i onboard sound, I have 2Gigs of RAM a Core 2 Duo E6600 and a Geforce 8800GTX.

I just recently built a box for my dad using a Soyo P4IS2 motherboard with the onboard ac97 sound.

Now the problem is when it is installed and all the drivers are updated the sound is very quiet. You have to have all the sound settings turned up all the way in order to hear it at all. I've ran through windows settings in order to be sure the sound wasn't turned down somewhere. Eventually I installed a soundblaster live 5.1 and I am having the same problems... The speakers are good, I tested them on my Soyo that I built for myself.

I guess what I am wondering is if anyone else has had this problem and if so have you found some way to solve it I'm lost.

Hello Steven0,

Open Volume Control by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Hardware and Sound, and then, under Audio Devices and Sound, clicking Adjust system volume.

Most games have an onboard "console" once the game loads to adjust the game volume and other goodies.

Or is this low volume across the board for all applications that employ sound?

You should have a speaker icon dowqn in the lower right hand corner of your desktop (in the systray) if you have autohide disabled. Or just put your mouse pointer at the very bottom of the screen and the task bar will pop up and double click on the speaker and look at your volume settings.

If you adjusted your game volume before you restored your computer then you might have had to reinstall your game and that means your game has a new .ini file and that would have held your volume choice so if you have not adjusted the game volume from inside the game since your restore or game re-install then the .ini file for your game has the default volume listed.

For volume:

start/control panel/sounds and multimedia or "audio devices" Under the "volume" tab click "advanced".

For hardware acceleration:

start/control panel/sounds and multimedia or "audio devices"

Under the "voice" tab and beside "voice playback' listing click ... Read more

I have on board sound on a Ms-6378 motherboard and fairly old speakers. Even with all of the volume options set to their maximum the sound is at a reasonable level for most people. However my dad is partly deaf but I can't turn the volume up any further for him. I have the best drivers for the sound.

Is it the sound card that I should update or could it be the speakers? I can't afford to spend more than I have to.

I am not sure where to post this, but I have a computer with no speakers. So I use headphones, plugged directly into the back of my computer. The problem is there is no volume control, and the headphones are so quiet I can barely hear the sound. The headphones themselves have a volume control, but it doesn't go quite loud enough. I can barely hear it with the headphones turned up. Is there a way to boost the volume somehow with the computer? (The volume in the windows mixer is turned all the way up on all the sliders.)

Is this possible?

My sound is _very_ quiet on my system, and has been for several months. I tired adjusting the volume (everywhere), installing the latest drivers, different speakers, different sound jacks, but nothing helped. Both sets of speakers work on other systems.

I should add that this is not limited just to DVD/CD. Hulu and other video is quiet. Also, the windows system sounds are quiet ("sound" control pannel, the sounds tab, play button). However when modifying the play device properties (sound control panel, playback tab, double click on default speakers), the test sound is loud.

My computer is an Dell xps 410, with windows vista.

Could this be mechanical? How do I check the health of the onboard audio? Should I swicth this with a sound card and disable onboard audio?? Video drivers?

Any help is appreciatated. Thanks.

Just a hunch, do you have RealPlayer? If so, check to see if it's volume is down. Years ago with XP, the volume adjustments of RealPlayer took the volume adjustment of Windows Wave with it.

Hey guys,

I'm running Microsoft Windows XP, AMD Athalon 1800+, 1.54gh, 768mb ram. My sound card is a Dynex: Envy 24 Family Audio Controller WDM.

What's happening is that I get sound out of the card just fine, but when I run a mic into it I have to yell into the mic to get anything, or I have to put the mic right up against my mouth. I know it isn't my headset because I've put the headset through other people's systems and it has worked just fine. I had this problem before with my onboard sound card but I thought that it was just cause the onboard was a piece of garbage. The new sound card is better, I don't need to yell so hard or be so close, but it's still quite useless. I've already turned up every single setting to its maximum, so I know that isn't the problem either, unless I"m missing some obscure hidden setting that only God would know about.

Anyway, if I could get a grasp on what's going on that'd be super, and thanks so much in advance for your answers. I just hope it's not something retarded like my motherboard.

Hi recon! Welcome to the forum!
On the bottom right corner of the taskbar, by the time/date, you should see a speaker icon. If you right click on that icon there are a couple of options. Have you looked in there? I'm thinking maybe your master volume is up high but the WAVE volume is low. Look for these settings. I'm not on my Vista machine to guide you through at the moment but wanted to give you a starting point.

So I am wearing headphones, they're plugged into a 3.5 mm speaker. This speaker is plugged into my computer's motherboard.

I can hear sound, but it's extremely quiet. My speakers are maxed out. Windows 8 sound is 100%. Youtube video is at 100%.

I honestly don't know how to update my drivers any further. I have a M2N-SLI motherboard. I went to the ASUS website, and there isn't even a Windows 8 option for it.

I also have a creative soundblaster Xi-Fi extreme audio sound card. Using the CD it came with, I tried installing the drivers again, restarted the computer, and nothing changes. I can't find the drivers on creative's website either. I tried every 3.5 mm jack in the back of my computer and nothing works.

All the contacts are in. I tried using other speakers (and headphones) and had the same issue.

i'm at a loss.

If I hover over the little speaker icon in windows 8, it says "speakers (USB): 100%" Does that have anything to do with my issue? I am not using USB at all.

edit: under Device Manager, all of my Audio inputs and outputs are up to date and working properly
edit: SOLVED. didn't have my sound card set to default

Hello.

I connected my PC's audio and sound to my TV. The TV model is Sony KDL-32L4000.
The video from the PC is connected via D-Sub to the TV(at the computer's end it's using a DVI to D-Sub converter).
The audio is connected to the television using a PC to LCD-TV 3.5mm audio jack cable.

The problem is that, for example, when watching Youtube videos with my headphones on/computer speakers, the sound quality is much nicer and I can hear the speech over the music. If I watch Youtube with my TV's main speakers being as sound output, it's really hard to hear people talk and music is usually louder than speech but not of a good quality. But watching normal cable TV channels results in a very nice and clear sound from the main TV speakers.

What's up?

A:PC to TV sound quality is bad/quiet

most flat screen tv speakers are low quality which opened a market for the theater home systems, I use a 32" vizio fs tv for my computer and use a wireless speaker for the computer so an aftermarket speaker system is your best bet.

Lastly, my sound is extremely quiet on the PC. I maxxed the settings, used both jacks, and tried enhancing the volume. It sounds like it's at 15% of max volume, so basically unuseable.

Hi,

This started happening a few weeks ago. I actually thought it was my old speakers that were faulty, so I replaced them with decent speakers, and as most of my work is tutorial videos (with speaking), I didn't notice it happening on my new speakers too, but then I played music and it was obvious.

It happens on my normal PC built-in sound card and also on my proper sound box for making music: Roland Duo Capture EX.

It just sounds like you're playing music and a little kid is continually messing with the volume button!

What is causing this?

And how do I make the sound consistent please?

thanks a lot

Hello,
I have bought a new Inspiron 15 7570 laptop with Windows 10 Pro.
Since the beginning, it does a quiet beeping/clicking sound. You can hear here (sound in WAV format).
I have turned all the system sound off (or at least I think that, win 10 are new for me).
The sound is not clearly connected with any user action or warning and as far as I observed, it occurs randomly. The average span between these sounds is like 2 minutes.
When I turn the speaker off (no sound), the sound is still present, which means it may not be audio stuff at all.
Can you please help me identify the source of the sound, whether it's normal and how to get rid off it? I work with the laptop quite often and this sound, however quiet, drives me crazy after while.

Lenovo R60 converted to W7. everything works fine except sound from the microphone.
If I speak normally into the mic from a distance of 3 inches the resulting recording is very quiet - only just audible. There is a certain amount of buzz as well

The microphone works fine in another machine.

The R60 has Soundmax Integrated Digital HD Audio. I have the latest drivers (W7 drivers are only available for the R61 but I believe the card is the same. They work at least as well as the R60 vista drivers).

In sound->recording I have one microphone (a CD player and Stereo Mix are visible but disabled)
Under microphone->properties I have
Tab Listen - unticked
Tab Custom -> microphone boost ticked
Tab Levels -> set to max (100)
Tab Microphone enhancements -> disabled (Ive tried voice enhancements but it makes marginal difference)
Tab general - it says 'no jack information available' Also, if I enable and select as default one of the other recoding devices, the microphone gets a small green telephone symbol by it. So I suspect Soundmax is not detecting the mic in the jack correctly which may account for the symptoms.

So can anyone help me get this fixed.
All (sensible ) suggestions welcome

Audio samples at various gains/input levels

My microphone is picking up sound WAY too quiet (even with it at max input level). I can boost up the gain to max (20% for Soundcard, 30% for on-board) and the voice quality it picks up is good, however with the amount of gain used there's hissy noise in the background (to be expected with that much gain).

I have done a lot of searching on google and found many people with the same problem with Windows 7. Some people have had no issues on previous OS's (XP or Vista) and when upgrading to 7 have instantly had mic volume issues.

To troubleshoot this on my own before posting here I have not only tried my headset in my soundcard, but also in the on-board (realtek) inputs. I have also tried a second standalone microphone and had the same exact results. Extremely quiet with no gain. I used the latest drivers for both soundcard and on-board, although I did not have them running at the same time to avoid conflicts. Also, I wanted to try my headset in another machine not using Windows 7 but unfortunately don't have access to one at home or at work.

The only way to get myself audible is to also have hissy noise from cranking up the gain. I find this unacceptable with a good quality headset/mic as I've heard crisp/clear/noiseless dialog on youtube/streaming videos with much lower quality mics.

My guess is there's some conflict going on with my hardware combination and windows 7 that is difficult to pinpoint.. I also reformat fa... Read more

A:Microphone way too quiet. Tried two different mics and sound cards.

Are you using both the onboard sound and dedicated sound?

Unless I'm mistaken, you need to disable onboard sound in the BIOS if you want to use the Creative sound card as the default sound settings.

recently reinstalled Windows due to upgrading my PC and now whenever a system sound is played (for example the error sound or exclamation sound) all other sounds, whether they be music files or games or anything else, will have their volume significantly reduced, even for a short time after the sound has played. makes it very irritating when, for example, listening to music while editing documents (exclamation sound playing on closing to save) I've already disabled the option in Communications tab of the sound settings but can find nothing else and a google search hasn't helped either

A:windows play system sound and all other sounds go quiet

I would try this: go into the device manager in the system section of the control panel; completely uninstall the sound card and any other associated components; reboot; let windows hopefully re-detect the card and any other components and reinstall them; reboot a second time. Try this out and see if it resolves your issue.

I tested several headphones und different settings of the software. I also tried installing all Windowsupdates and the driver updates incl BIOS from the Toshiba homepage nad drivers from realtek.
Now i reinstalled Windows but the problem still exists.
I still thinks is a driver problem but have no idea what to do now.

I hope for fast help

A:Satellite U920T - sound with headphones quiet and distorted

That?s really strange but I think there is problem with some wrong settings.
I don't know how do you test your headphones but make some test with browser player.
Open Internet Explorer and open this test page. Start for instance my favourite In the Mix radio and when music runs click with left mouse button on speaker icon and open option Mixer.
Your IE will be listed there. You can move volume level for speakers but for IE too.
Set both of them on the 50% and check if the problem persists.

I use headphones pretty often but I?ve never noticed such problem.
Please test it and send some feedback.

When playing DVDs my laptop's speakers are really very quiet. Yes, everything is cranked up. I know the speakers can go a lot louder. In MediaMonkey (which is a mediaplayer, obviously) there is the option to "level the playback volume" and then you can set the target volume in dB. This can drastically increase the volume, to the point of breaking the speakers (although I don't do this).

Is there a program that can do this to all output sounds?

And yes, I've read around and found that there is just a maximum output voltage for speakers that no software can increase, but I KNOW that they can go louder.

I have Realtek HD Audio Manager, Vista Home Premium 32 bit and can use a variety of progams to play DVDs: VLC, Media Player Classic, WMP and Nero Showtime (don't ask why I have so many, I use them all for different purposes).

A:quiet laptop speakers - but only sometimes

I'd be checking whatever program you're using for playback of the dvds, and making sure it's not set to 5.1. This can often make stereo speakers a lot quieter than they should be....

I just tried out the media center but I noticed that when playing files the sound is soft. The media center splash screen is loud when I open the program but I have to turn the volume way up to have it play normal. When I use Media Portal which is almost the same as Media Center the volume is fine. I even tried uninstalling Media Portal just in case the codecs conflict or something. Is there a setting I have to change? I configured the audio in media center for 7.1 speakers.

Sorry I posted this in the wrong section. Mods can you move it to the Media Center section. Thanks.

The + and - sign buttons also adjust the volume in WMC... have you tried them?

So I turned on my computer today and the startup sounds would be normal but sounds for all applications would be very soft. For example when you move the volume mixer to full it would still be really soft. The only sounds that work fine is when I am watching youtube and also when I run steam as an admin because if i dont run in admin mode I am able to barely hear the sounds but it would function normally otherwise. Please help me

I use mics over Ventrilo, a teamspeak-type program for people to talk. Randomly one day people couldn't hear me; I thought it was my mic. I bought a new one on Newegg and it has the same problem. I used the 'test hardware' app on both, and found that all three mics (both ones plugged into the jack and my mic built into the laptop) can transmit sound but only when I speak really, really close to it... and even then the sound is distorted. I thought at first it was a mic jack issue but the built-in mic has the same problem which suggests otherwise.

Anyone know how I can fix it? Do I have an internal mic volume that's just set to receive only really close sounds, or is something else screwed up?

Thanks.

I sometimes hear a soft zooming sound from the pc-case. It's sort of a vibrating sound, as if the sounds is from a fan. It's usually not hard, but it keeps going on for a long time. A few times, these vibrating sounds were quite loud, for a short time. What could this sound be, and how can it be fixed? There aren't any warning messages from windows.

Any brand/model# suggestions for a laptop from one you have bought and are using in the last six months yet being sold that is:
- quiet, fan seldom kicks on, one that is not Core Duo which generates more heat.
- since have the less than 20/20 vision, a display that can be adjusted to or something close to 1024 x 768, even if text is a little fuzzy adjusting from the machines native resolution. Also ideally a brighter display with text darker than fainter will too be helpful.
- ideally around 15" display, but 2nd choice is around 14", and 3rd choice is around 17".
- 1GB of memory (or better).
Primarily the machine will be used for text such as internet browsing, email, Excel, Word, and not graphics.
Thanks in advance.

A:Suggestion for Quiet Laptop, Adjustable Bright Display??

You should be able to find what you want at almost any Computer Store! If you use large fonts and "Cleartype" you should not have a readability problem at all.

Native resolutions at or above 1024 x 768 are basically generic now, as is the availability of the 'Brightview' type of display.

If you buy a machine with a 'mobile' designated processor, they should be quiet, since they are low power consumption by design (less heat).

Go shopping, look and listen...that's the best way to get what you want...hands on!
