Dell 630i blue screen problems

Q: Dell 630i blue screen problems

Hello, I was hoping I could post a previous thread where other gentlemen also had Dell 630i series blue screen issues but being a forum newbie, it would not allow me to do so.

A quick recap of my issue: I have been receiving blue screen errors every few days (or sooner) for awhile now such as this:
0x0000001A (0x00041284, 0x11BA3001, 0x0000612F, 0xC0802000)

They all start with 0x0000001A.

The specs are :

750GB Sata 2 hard drive

Dual ATI radeon 3870 series cards

Quad Q9300 processors

4GB DDR2 sdram 800Mhz

I naively thought replacing Vistas with 7 would help, but it didnt at all.

Dell had me do a MpMemory test: all aspects passed, as well as a confidence test, and SMART short self test for my SATA, which also passed.

I am pretty much a casual user and not so good on the technical stuff; the good news is it appears I'm still under the 2 year warranty.

Resolutions by other guys that had this problem on their 630i machines included Dell replacing the motherboard.

Any info is greatly appreciated, I seem to be getting the run around by Dell on this.

Thank you for your time.

PS Any guys who had these machines and the same problem (Roymondo!) please let me know how your resolution worked out.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have had the Dell Inspiron 2200 laptop for 3 and a half years now and it has developed some serious problems. On start up it takes to a white screen and asks for my hard disk password. I have had it since new and never entered a password and have also acquired the master password from dell and still it will not accept the password. In order to get anywhere I have to press enter three times to get to a black screen with ?F1 to reboot, F2 to setup". Pressing F1 results in a beep then the same line comes up again. I then press F2 to get to the blue screen where all I can do to get past it is to go to maintenance then load defaults then after pressing save and exit it reboots again. Sometimes it will then load the normal windows screen but mostly it takes me back to the start again at the white password screen.

Also whenever I try to download anything or open the disk drive a killer blue screen appears with the message " KERNAL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR" and "STOP: 0x00000077 (0xc0000185 0xc0000185 0x00000000 0x06bf3000)"

I would really appreciate anyone?s help on how to correct this problem or if I need to replace any parts or the whole laptop as at the moment it is my only computer and I am struggling without it functioning properly.

Thank you for your help, Dan

So I get two sort of blue screen errors: Memory management, and bcmwl. This has been happening on and off since last year and I'm not sure what is going on. I worked with support last year and all we did was just update all of my drivers - problem went away for a few months but then the blue screening starts coming back. I can't identify an actual pattern on what causes this, tried going through event viewer to find some sort of trigger I am really just not sure. I have the latest wifi driver given from Dell's driver website - and I believe after running the "Identify drivers" search engine off of Dell's drivers website, it recently just pointed me to update my graphics driver as well as install some applications (Which I haven't done as of yet).
Ran system file checker as well as Window's memory diagnostic showing no problems found on both ends, please help - really tired of getting these blue screens

I bought a pair of identical XPS 630i that I use for gaming, and they have served me well. Now that the AMD ATI HD 4850s are getting long in the tooth I upgraded them to NVidia GTX 660 SCs, not a issue right?

Turns out my pair of Identical XPS 630i are not, it appears the that one Mother Board has a bad PCI-E x8 slot. Why did it take so long to find out? In the video card upgrade I observed the SoundBlaster X-Fi cards were mounted in different slots. with a pair of graphic cards installed it should have been installed in slot 3 (the PCI-E 8 slot) and it was in PC-2 but in PC-1 it had been squeezed into slot 2 the PCI-E x1 slot right up against the Primary ATI HD 4850, where it worked.

Bottom line up front: After 30 hours of trouble shooting and diagnostics it is painfully obvious that the PCI-E x8 slot in PC-1 is bad, thus causing endless BSODs, system errors, and incompatible issues with the Sound Card being installed in the correct slot.

Oh, yes... PC-2 purrs like a kitten without issue after the upgrade...PC-1 well out of warranty will now scare my heart on Dell for years to come.

So how do I fix the issue?

Replace the Motherboard?
Forget about using the Sound Blaster X-Fi sound card?
Try to contact dell about out of warranty replacement parts? ... I'm still waiting after weeks on the Dell Tech to get back with me on a replacement Front Bezel for a Dell Alienware Area 51 ALX, that he said he would call me and give me a price and delivery date.

Thanks in advance,

I have a refurb Dell XPS 630i that is frozen in the boot up process. After I had a program lock up (Media Monkey, specifically) I restarted the computer and got to the Dell screen where the option appears to press F2, etc. to enter BIOS or setup and the computer locked up.

Running Vista with 6gb ram. No new hardware/software installs that I am aware of.

Turning the computer off and on again results in the computer starting up at that exact same place. Not before - not after. Tried to boot up from cd. Will not boot from cd; starts and freezes in the exact same place. Removed the hard drive as I needed access to the data and was able to use an adapter and retrieve all of my documents and files. Got a new motherboard and installed it and replaced the hard drive. Same thing - starts in the exact same place and is frozen. Removed all the sticks of ram and got the beeps that indicate no ram. Installed one stick and had the same results - frozen in time. Installed a different stick - same thing.

Any ideas/guidance would be appreciated.

A:Dell XPS 630i frozen on boot up

Since you replaced the Mobo, it would likely be that some piece of hardware connected to it is the culprit.

Have you tried booting without the hard drive, or the optical drive connected?

I have  what I thought would be an extremely simple question but unfortunately the answers have turned out to be the most elusive of my life.
I would like to find out what my Intel chipset is without opening up my computer.
I have an XPS 630i and it runs Q6600 processors. Hard to believe but I purchased this machine in May 2008 and already it's becoming outdated.
Can anyone help?
Note: I checked the Intel site and their chipset utility only works on 32 bit OSs. When I read that I was shocked. This is Intel after all.

Hi mcfari,
Your manual has the specs. Click Support above, then manuals under product support. Then enter your model info and you're all set. I'd tell you that you have an NVIDIA® nForce 650i SLI chipset, but then you'd miss out on the joy of discovery.
Hope that wasn't too elusive!

Hello All,

After a lot of messing around without any real solution I'm posting here as my last ditch effort in hopes that I can come to a solid conclusion of what is wrong at least. I am working on a system that gets BSOD quite frequently. I have run memtest and it has passed with no errors multiple times. I've also tried reinstalling the intended OS twice as well as trying XP Pro once at this point in time. I have tried changing out the GPU for a different one which I know is working well. My info as per posting instructions is below, I'm really hoping somebody can help me analyze this dump to come to a real solution to my problem.

? OS - Windows 7 Professional
? x86 (32-bit) or x64 - x64
? What was original installed OS on system? Windows XP Professional
? Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? Retail Volume Licensing Edition
? Age of system (hardware) - A little over 1 Year
? Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS? Fresh Installation
? CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83GHz [email protected]: 39?C Yorkfield 45nm Technology
? Video Card - NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1) (EVGA)
? MotherBoard - Dell Inc 0C113J (Socket 775)
? Power Supply - brand & wattage - Would have to open up the box, please let me know if neccessary

Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for some help regarding this Dell XPS 630i desktop I purchased recently. I'll list the specs below followed by my problem I hope someone can help me with.
Motherboard: Dell XPS 630i Socket 775 NVidia NForce 650 SLI Processor: Intel Core 2 Extreme CPU Q6850 3.0 GHzVideo Card: NVidia GeForce 9800 GX2Memory: 4GBOS: Windows 8.1 64 bit
Ok so I got this computer from a garage sale. Brought it home it had Vista installed (the original OS which came with the computer) but I needed to upgrade it to Win 8.1 in order to run certain software. Before upgrading everything was working fine. The video card has 2 DVI outputs and an HDMI output, which i plugged 2 monitors into and it worked just fine. So anyway I needed to format and install Win 8.1 so I did. Now in the device manager there's conflict with the video card (NVidia GeForce 9800 GX2). As if drivers are missing. So because of the conflict I cannot get full screen on my monitor and it won't output to dual monitors only one of the DVI outputs is working and the HDMI output doesn't work either. So I downloaded drivers from NVidia's website for this particular video card (the win 8.1 64 bit version). But still the problem persists. I've spent a few days on researching, installing different OS like Win 8.1 32 bit, Win 7 32 and 64 bit etc. Downloading the motherboard drivers, updating bios, video card drivers but I can't get it to work properly. I'm obviou... Read more

The XPS 630i motherboard failed (the Ethernet port and both PCI Express slots were not functioning).
I replaced the motherboard with one purchased on eBay and I used the CPU & memory sticks from the old motherboard, plus the GE Force GT640 video card and the hard drive with the previous installation of Windows7 on it, but then (due to health issues) it sat incompleted for a year. It just needed the waterblock and cooling system installed, which is just recently completed.
When attempting to start the computer, it plays a continuous beep for 25 seconds, pauses for 10 seconds, beeps again for 5 seconds, pauses again for 10 seconds, beeps again for 5 seconds, then stops.
There's no video display.
I realize I may have to reset BIOS / CMOS, yet with no video display, I'm seeking to respond to this beep's meaning, learn what that means first - and then generally how to set up this new installation from here. Thanks, Rob (archer5013)

I too bought a Dell Inspiron 530 - the First machine, after installing my lexmark printer 3400 driver not only gave me blue screens but memory issues with the windows desktop not painting correctly and icons missing! So I called Dell and they told me how reset the machine back to the factory settings...but I still encountered the Blue screen of Death even after that and then going to standby/hibernation and coming back - clicking to yahoo and checking mai! Boom Blue Screen every time! I called Dell and they replaced the machine with another Dell Inspiron desktop 1 week ago. I hooked up the new one and the same exact thing has happened - I restored the settings again and have already had the dreaded blue screen Stop error code 0x40000080 even with out now installing anything related to a printer!!! all while coming back from hibernation! So what I have read here is to get around this issue is to never let the machine got to standby or Hibernation is that correct?? or do I need driver updates! why in the world I would need new drivers when this is a brand new machine!!! Press F8 during bootup and see if you can get to the XP boot menu. If you can't get to the boot menu, it could be a hardware issue or corrupt files on the HDD. With a boot CD or XP CD you can verify the system will boot, that will help verify the hardware is mostly functional.

If you can reach the boot menu, try booting into Safe Mode. If it won't boot into Safe Mode, you will need the recovery disks or a XP CD and perform a Repair

Hey everyone, I seem to have a recurring problem that I just can't puzzle out on my
own and need some help here.

A few months ago I had to replace my power supply unit, and at the same time decided to
upgrade my RAM and OS (moving from Windows Vista to Win 7).
Before I was running on 1 gig of DDR2 PC2-5300 667 MHz. I updated it to PNY 4 gigs
(also DDR2 PC2-5300). Computer kept restarting so I brought it down to 2 gigs - things
worked ok for a little while and then I started to have similar problems again. My PC
continually restarts itself randomly, Displays the Blue Screen after an hour or so of
operation and constantly freezes on the starting Windows 7 logo screen.
I have absolutely no clue where these issues could be coming from. All of the RAM seems
to be accurate spec wise and I don't believe the Power Supply to be at fault. Also, this is more recently, whenever I try to sync up my iPod with iTuens, my system also decides to restart itself randomly during the sync. Any help
on the issue would be GREATLY appreciated.

Below are additional PC specs:

- OS Windows 7 ultimate 32bit
- CPU, Intel Core 2 - (2) of them at 2.13 GHz
- 2 Gigs PNY RAM
- (any additional specs needed - please let me know!)

I'm out of ideas here; any suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks!

I have a Dell Latitude 5175 (Core m5-6Y57, 8GB ram, 256GB SSD) which bluescreens during full screen video playback such as Netflix or Windows media player with a Driver_power_state_failure, it doesn't happen straight away but usually after around 10-15 minutes usage.

I checked the minidump file which suggested the Intel graphics card driver was to blame, I updated that to the latest one from Dell which made no difference, updated the chipset driver, bios and then installed the latest graphics card driver from Intel again with no difference, if anything it's worse now.  The issue also occurs when the tablet is docked or when it's not docked although in normal day to day usage, it seems fine.

I've found references to this problem on some other machines, noticeably the Surface Pro 4's but not really any solution.  The next step is to try a clean build but thought I'd see if there's anything else I can try first.  The machine is out of warranty and while it's always occurred I've just lived with it as I incorrectly through the PC had a three year warranty.

My husband has a Dell laptop, it says Inspiron Model #PP08L on the bottom, and it's pretty old, but (was) still functioning well. This computer has always been just a little slow, so we don't overload it with junk, I delete junk files and cookies and defragment it when it wants it. Lately it will work for a while then the screen will turn blue and there is just gibberish all over the page (I mean it's English, but pretty much nonsense and numbers to me). When it does this we have to just hold the button and turn it off-you can't get back to the main screen to shut it down. Now it's started where this blue screen is pretty much all there is. You can mash enter all day but there's never anything else. Someone suggested a memory issue. Could it be that or does it have some nasty virus? (It's been on AVG protection). Can it be saved? My laptop's messed up too, so we'd like at least one of our computers to work!!!!!

I have a Dell Inspirion 531 that is two years old, running Windows Vista.
I believe I may have a virus or something that is keeping me from booting up.
The computer will boot up to to log-on screen and then it suddenly goes into a Blue Screen of Death.

The code on the Blue Screen is Stop - 0X000007E. I get the same message when I try to go into safe mode.

Can anyone tell me what the code means?

It also tells me about getting a "hot fix" - it's a form of Windows update - how can I do this if I cannot log on.

Someone please help me!!!!

Thanks so much,

I just got this new Dell XPS 15 9550 2 days ago (10-Aug-16) and it has already crashed 4 times with blue screen. After the first BSOD, I thought it was due to outdated drivers. But then I updated all drivers to latest including updated BIOS. Then I ran a system diagnostic test from the Dell support page. Second BSOD occurred while running diagnostics. Today I just turned on the computer and it crashed with BSOD while just sitting idle. The I ran a second diagnostic test. This time, the diagnostics ran successfully except two.

Integrated Webcam                    Edge Detection      Test Failed
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M    Block Move Test     Cannot Run
The BSOD were CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED or UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION.The system just seems so unstable to do anything serious on it..Is this laptop worth keeping or should I just return it? How does the 9550 work for others?

Using AVG paid subscription with current updates; SuperAntiSpyware paid subscription with current updates; SpywareBlaster, also updated regularly; and Ad-Aware Plus, also updated. SuperAntiSpyware found a trojan last week, but said it fixed it, so that's probably not a problem.

It has been fine until today except that the playback on sound and video that are on the HDD or onlie have been hanging up for some reason that I haven't figured out and a notice every day or so that the network controller has stopped working, but Windows can't fix it - - it always starts up again right away. Today, as music was playing, the computer hung up and began beeping loudly with the music skipping sort of like a bad CD would - - but the music was on the HDD not a CD. Then the blue screen - - and that hung up - - and I had to turn off the unit manually. It has seemed a bit slower today than usual, but that's the only other sign of trouble before the crash.

Any suggestions or advice? The computer is still under warranty, but just thought to check if it might be something simple I could fix before calling Dell and shipping it off. The only thing different today is that I installed itunes and Quicktime yesterday. Nothing else has changed recently. Before going to sleep, I am going to uninstall itunes and delete the hundreds of music files... Read more

Blue screen said problem with nv4_disp.
I got the blue screen only after performing all windows updates right after shut down and reboot. I was able to restore to an earlier moment in the reinstall and I seem to not be having any problem but I elected to "not" install the windows update provided Nvidiia GeForce 4mx420 update offered by Microsoft.

I had a computer, a Dell Inspiron B130, and I was about to run the last released version of the DooM source port Risen3d. Earlier, I had turned up the volume due to a music file being very low. The result was E1M1 blasting to all the people in the very small room. I tried to turn the volume down, but the old PC was having a hard enough time loading all the hiresolution textures and MD2 models. The power button wouldn't work, so I closed the cover and started to walk out. The music stopped, and the power lights went off. I opened the cover to restart the comp, then the lights came back on, the music blaring again, and I was starting to get stared at. I'm very shy, so I just pulled the plug on the laptop. The battery wasn't connected properly, and the power was cut instantly. Everything stopped, and I waited for a while to let thing cool off (one problem with the PC is that it doesn't ever give me heat errors even though the botom is about to melt off). I put the battery back in properly, and turned it on. It went normal, showing me the Dell BIOS screen, then the second BIOS screen, then the boot options came on. It said to choose reboot normaly if you didn't know what happened or there was a power failure. I chose it, and after the Windows boot screen came up (I am running Windows XP Home Edition) and the little blue bar went all the way accross, a blue screen came up with an error message. I've searched and searched and all I find is suggestions to contact Dell. My system is NOT a Dell. But, I am getting the following Blue Screen error. Sometimes I simply have to reboot and all is good, sometimes 2 or 3 times, but it seems to happen everytime I turn on my PC.
Before I reinstall Windows for the um...millionth time, are there any experts able to help solve this mystery?

A:Blue Screen Error: NOT A DELL

when we make suggestions to contact dell its because a person usually tells us it is a dell or we can tell from the computer specs given that it is.the only time in my life i have seen a blue screen similar to that is when ive changed back to windows xp from vista before i was knowledgeable enough to realize i had to go into the BIOS and change the configuration from ACHI to either SATA,ATA,IDE, or compatability.if your computer came with windows xp then you dont have to make the change in the BIOS to run windows xp properly.if it didnt come with windows xp and you are trying to change it back to windows xp thats why you are getting that blue screen.if it isnt that then someone with more knowledge on this than i have will hopefully have more advice to give you.

Hi.
I am brand new here. I have found this delightful forum to be the only one that is intelligently able to assess one's minidump files. Here are mine. This is from a laptop running winxp pro. i have performed all the procedures outlined in the "before you post minidumps" notice, and I still have nothing. Please let me know if I posted my minidumps incorrectly. Thanks to anyone who can help. The laptop blue-screens after a few minutes of being fully logged in and running. The blue screens states: Page fault in non-paged area at which point a minidump file is created and the machine reboots. Thanks for any help!

A:Dell Laptop Blue Screen w/Minidump

what kind of dell is it inspiron or lat system??? have you tried running the 32bit dell diagnostics from the boot menu??? to access just post the system and at the dell logo screen hit the F12 key then chose the option that says boot to utility partition and run the express test then the extended test if nothing shows up. also remember that if you don't have a cdrom such as a windows disk in the drive then you will get an error for the cdrom when it tests it so just continue on past that and do the rest of the test.. do that then work on the minidumps...so you can get possible hardware out of the wat first.then you can be pretty sure it is software realted such as driver or new software install done recently

Dimension 5150 PC Running WinXP

OK, I'm trumped.

Turn it on. Says Windows could not load and to protect the machine, it has stopped the boot sequence. Standard options; boot t safe mode, from ROM, to Partition, etc. Every single option gives me the blue screen.

So i thought it was the HD. Ran all the DELL diagnostics utilities and it passed all tests.

Tried to boot from CDROM to see if I could do a soft reinstall. No dice. Tested the CDROM in another machine and it works fine.

Went through setup and made sure the bot sequence was correct and also checked over the RAM, CPU, etc. Checked over the BIOS. All is good.

What else can I do? I can't seem to be able to pinpoint the problem. According to all the tests I've run using the Dell utility software, nothing is wrong with the hardware or firmware. Yet, still won't boot.

Totally baffled. Any ideas?

A:Dell 5150 PC Blue Screen with a twist

It might have passed the Dell test, but download the ISO image for Memtest in my signature. Burn the image to CD using IMGBurn also in my signature. Boot off of the newly created CD and run the tests. If you get any errors (Red), there is one stick of RAM that is bad and needs to be replaced.
You can also remove the HDD and attach it internally to a desktop computer, via USB Adapter or put it in a USB Enclosure and test the HDD on another computer.
