I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I am running Ubuntu 19.10 on a recently-purchased X1 Extreme gen 2. The installed BIOS version is 1.26. I looked in the Drivers & Software page and I see that 1.27 was released on 29 October. However, running `fwupdmgr --get-updates` says "No upgrades for 20QVCTO1WW System Firmware, current is 0.1.26: 0.1.23=older, 0.1.23=older". How long does it usually take for firmware updates to be available via fwupdmgr? Should I manually update? I downloaded the BIOS Update Utility for Linux and the README. The directions in the README are clear, but nowhere do I see the 20QVCTO1WW ID mentioned above and want to make sure that I have the correct files. The BIOS Update Utility download is called `n2oul06w.zip` and contains 3 CAB files: N2OET40P.cab, N2OET40W.cab and N2OHT32W.cab. Is this the right file? Which one should I apply? Thanks in advance,-Mario.

Hello Lenovo friends! I've been a huge fan of ThinkPads-- my first was a T400s back in 2009.  And I've definitely found them to be solid, reliable machines.  I purchased a ThinkPad X1E last November and just encountered a new problem today though-- when I use my TB dock and play video, I've been getting BSOD messages.  I've connected the dock to two monitors, one via DP and the other via HDMI.  The Stop code is "DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION." I've read online that to fix this BSOD, you simply download and install the latest TB firmware update.  So I tried doing that today. But when I go to install the firmware update, I'm getting conflicting instructions!  The first dialog box says, "Please do not plug the Type C or Thunderbolt device to your system while updating the Thunderbolt Firmware." The second dialog box instructs, "Please connect at least one Thunderbolt device to your PC..." What is the correct step to do?  I only have one Thunderbolt device and that's my dock.  Should I connect it to my X1E while I'm updating the TB firmware?  Or not?  I've read on other forum posts that other X1E owners have actually bricked their docks when performing TB updates so I'm very concerned about that too.  Can someone please advise?  Thank you! PS.  Here are some of my system details too, btw, in case that helps:My Product #:  20MFCTO1WWMy BIOS version:  N2EET37W 1.1... Hello,I recently purchased a brand new X1 Extreme, switching (like I suppose many people) from an older MacBook Pro. I am delighted with the machine, and in particular I found that the following key combinations are implemented in the same manner as the MacBook:Fn + left = HomeFn + right = EndHowever, some Fn key combinations are not implemented, and they do nothing. In particular:Fn + up = Page UpFn + down = Page DownFn + backspace = DeleteSince the combinations are implemented by the keyboard controller firmware they cannot be added in software, much to the frustration of former Apple users. So, my request is: would it please be possible to pass this request to the person who maintains the keyboard controller firmware on the X1 Extreme? Adding the missing combinations would maintain total compatibility with the current setup, and would increase the appeal of the X1 Extreme for all the MacBook refugees. Thank you for your attention.

Does the X1E support S3 sleep under Linux? It can't wake from suspend in Ubuntu Linux 18.10. Do we have to wait for Lenovo to offer such support through a BIOS update (like the X1C6) before wake from suspend or hibernate is possible under Linux?

The linux version of the latest BIOS/ECP firmware (1.44/1.18) for the X1 Carbon 4th gen (type 20FB and 20FC) and X1 Yoga 1st gen (types 20FQ, 20FR) was released Aug 2 (n1ful37w.zip) https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/de/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-... Direct link: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n1ful37w.zip That .zip file contains two .cab files, N1FET70W.cab and N1FHT35W.cab, for the BIOS and ECP respectively. Updating the BIOS in linux for my X1 Carbon 20FB worked fine for me with fwupdmgr, but failed for the ECP. This was because the metadata for the ECP update has a typo. Inside the N1FHT35W.cab file is a firmware.metainfo.xml, with a GUID of: 4c2e5b5c-6467-43af-afeb7bc72d96b9c3 This is incorrect. It's missing a dash, and should read: 4c2e5b5c-6467-43af-afeb-7bc72d96b9c3 Modifying this file within the .cab (or extracting it and generating a new .cab) and then flashing that with fwupdmgr fixed the problem. I've attached the modified .cab file (nested in a .zip file for upload). You can check yourself that the only thing that's changed is the GUID line in the .xml file. This typo should be fixed in the source by Lenovo and reuploaded as perhaps a rev 2 for n1ful37w.zip . Hopefully this hasn't happened for any other firmware update files.

Hello everybody, I know another thread with similar problems here, booting three times ect .... but not with the new specific problem, this one seems to be new to me and I hope for a solution without the technician having to change the Hardware Motherboard. I had the original ME firmware and now an update was made by Lenovo Vantage, but this unfortunately did not work properly and led to the following: 1. at boot the "Strg P" entry has disappeared 2. in the Bios the entry with ME Firmware Version is empty 3. ME is shown as deactivated or not present in Hardware Manager, The result is that you can no longer perform flash if ME is no longer present in the system. 4. When restarting or reactivating, it will take about 35 seconds for the Lenovo logo to be displayed and the system will start up  this is all very frustrating, i hope that there will be a software solution, or maybe someone knows a solution .... Thanks all for support.....

As far as I know, there are 3 ways of updating a ThinkPad:1. System Update Utility2. Lenovo Service Bridge Automatic Driver Scan3. Manual Driver Download & Install When updating my machine via System Update Utility, I was met with a BIOS update for 1.23:     Yet after multiple attempts, System Update Utility failed to download the BIOS update:  So I tried option 2, and used Lenovo Service Bridge to automatically scan and download the pending BIOS update. But oddly enough LSB returned by stating my machine was in no need of an update:   My third and last option was to manually download and install BIOS 1.23. Even weirder this time, I was met with a 404 Not Found page when downloading the update:   So what's the deal? Is this an isolated issue, or is this a Lenovo-wide servicing problem? Perhaps Lenovo pulled this BIOS update to work out some bugs with that particular version? I recently installed a 2nd SSD just to run Linux, but not until this BIOS issue is resolved.  Any insight would be appreciated.Thank you.

After Intel Management Engine Firmware 10 [64]- v 12.0.47.1524 my machine has been having odd power issues.Sleep mode it drains the battery. If it starts on battery power, not plugged in, it bluescreens. It won't start while plugged in. I have to turn it on, wait for screen to activate, and then plug it in.  Too early, it never turns on, sits on a black screen.  Too late and it either shuts down due to low battery (if I leave in sleep mode) or bluescreens (if I had it shut down and the battery still has power).  Stop code is a different error each time.  (driver irql_less_or_not_equal, unexpected kernal mode trap, things of that nature)There's something up with how the machine receives power and it only affect startup.  Unplugging the machine will still allow it to run (haven't tested for how long, it's just not an instant bluescreen)Any way to roll back firmware?

I have a recently purchased X1 Extreme, with fully updated system (according to Lenovo System Update) and running Windows 10 v. 1903.  Following some lost functionality / freeze-up of the mouse pointer, I first tried deleting the Synaptics Trackpoint in Device Manager, then rebooting. This "fix" worked, but the problem repeated itself.  So I followed the usual path - look for newer drivers in Lenovo Support.  So I looked at the X1E Drivers & Software page and downloaded the TrackPoint Firmware Update Utility from:https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n20g902w.exe Running this program gave me the following error (screenshot should (?) be attached):"Fail to enter Transparent mode" And now the TrackPoint & TrackPad do not work at all.  I am using an external USB mouse ... with my ultraportable laptop.   I searched and searched online, of course, and found a solution seems to have been found for the same problem on the X1 Carbon 6th Generation.  The solution involves downloading the SYNAPTICS Touchpad Firmware from the Lenovo site at:https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-X-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-... But ... no such update for the X1 Extreme.   HELP...!!! I am frantically trying to upgrade the firmware on my Tpad G41 28865YU CDRW/DVD drive (GCC-4241N).  I located the driver update fix in the FWod01 CD firmware update package.  Unfortunately, this package only is available on a multitude of diskettes which most laptops - including do not have.  Fortunately, Lenovo at some point accumulated the 1st 8 firmware packages (FWod01-FWod08) into a CD-boot disk update .iso file for download and CD drive install.  Fine.  I brought down this .iso file and created the appropriate boot CD and ran it:  *FWoD08 here* I had traced the needed firmware version to 0202 as documented in the documentation for my GCC-4241N drive.  Unfortunately, the 0202 firmware never somehow made it into the FWod08 package which only contains the original 1.04 version which is the problem.  So, the documentation and the contents of this FWod08 is incorrect.  Any chance of getting this rebuilt, or made into a new CD boot iso with the GCC-4241N 0202 firmware?  The updates have gone upto FWod09 but that is back to diskettes.  Or - is there some way I can get the 0202 files to add to my current FWod08 CD disk? PJV

A:THINKPAD X1 EXTREME - BIOS UPDATE 1.18 - BLUE SCREEN

That is almost certainly a device driver issue, and is usually not related to the BIOS.       The best way to troubleshoot the problem is to locate the C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP file created by the blue screen, zip it up, and then upload to OneDrive etc. so it can be reviewed. Sometime the Windows event logs can help too, but the memory.dmp file works best. Best of luck,

Get a messagebox saying "battery not detected" and it's not charging from mains. So laptop has now turned into a desktop... as needs plugging in continually... making it almost useless for purpose. This happened exactly after firmware update a few weeks ago. By coincidence the management software also kindly informed me that it could manage the battery better and stop it wearing out by only charging up to 90% - fair enough, but don't treat me like a muppet and disable it without any way to get it back. Tons of Windows 10 updates today (after not being able to use it for a few weeks) but still no battery. I tried F1 BIOS but nothing there to enable the battery (only to disable it). This is frankly a joke - timing shows it's due to the firmware update because the battery was fine and lasted a couple of hours right before. In 25 years of countless laptops, have never had this problem - batteries weaken gradually but don't suddenly lock up and require a paid replacement suddenly. How do we run down our original battery properly before polluting the planet? Phil

RELEVANCY SCORE 65.2

Hi all, Here are the startup that led to the situation :- PopOs! (Ubuntu derivative) proposed firmware update, I accepted, the OS downloaded them and rebooted- after additional 1-2 reboot, my lenovo P53 remained stuck on the firmware update screen "Flashing embedded controller.. Please do not power off"- after ~16 hours on this screen, and all fans working at their maximum speed, I tried to switch the laptop off, but the power key was unresponsive- I unplugged the alimentation cable. After like 2 hours the laptop battery was empty and the laptop stopped Now:- the power button is unresponsive, doesn't do anything (not even a light flashing)- when I plug the alimentation cable, the Esc, F1 and F4 keys flash for a fraction of a second I tried :- pushing the emergency reset button with and without the alimentation cable- removing the battery for a few minutes, pressing the emergency button then pushing the power buttonWithout any result Any help would be welcome, it's not even my laptop ? Cheers
