Touch Screen of HP Envy m7-n101dx (touch)

Q: Touch Screen of HP Envy m7-n101dx (touch)

Hi, I've recently formatted my Laptop HP Envy m7-n101dx (touch) and installed Win7 Ultimate (64 bit). I have downloaded all drivers available on HP website and installed on my laptop. There is only one unknown device left (acpi\msft010), and I'm unable to to find the correct driver. My problem is I'm unable to use the touch screen of the laptop, I've googling and found that is there must be a problem with with the Human Interface Device, but when I've checked the Device Manager no Human Interface Device is on the list. Please could anyone help me out. Thanks in advance

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello @JeffJadoo, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! The Forums are a great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community! I understand that you are having an issue with the Touch Screen, and wanted to assist you! Did the notebook originally ship with Windows 10? How did you go about formatting the notebook, and installing Windows 7? You may be able to use the Recovery Manager to restore the drivers, however, based on how you installed Windows, the Recovery Partition may already be removed. You can also try reviewing the following document, to see if the information helps: HP Notebook PCs - Touch Screen Issues (Windows 8) Please post back with the results. It is possible that the Touch Screen may not be supported for Windows 7 on that particular notebook. Please let me know if this information helps you resolve the issue by marking this post as "Accept as Solution", this will help others easily find the information they may be looking for. If anyone is thinking of buying an HP Envy all in one touch screen computer then DON'T do it! I bought one less than 9 months ago. The touchscreen failed and rendered the whole computer inoperable. It took several hours on the phone to get them to agree to take it in for repair. After three weeks they claimed to have repaired it and sent it back. They changed all the settings and locked them so I could not put the settings back to how they were. I don't like working on a black screen with white writing!! It took another couple of hours on the phone to get them to fix it. Now less than two months later the exact same problem with the touchscreen has arisen again. It has taken two days to get them to agree to take it back in for repair. They cannot collect it until next Thursday. It will take another two weeks after that before it's repaired and returned to me. I am really really disappointed with this machine and warranty service especially so as it was very expensive!

I literally have had this laptop for 2 days. I disregarded this the first day but now on day 2 my screen goes crazy. It looks like a child is going crazy messing with the touch screen and opening things and zooming in while I'm watching netflix or anything. I have never seen a laptop with a touch screen do this before. There are random dots popping up also. I calibrated it and updated everything and it still does this. The lock screen with even shake and when I try to type my password it types then erases it then the touch type pops up. It takes me 5 minutes to unlock the computer when ut should only take 5 seconds. This is driving me crazy. Does anyone know what is going on? Or am I the only one who has this problem...

After a windows auto update my touchscreen no longer responds. I think it is a driver issue. My windows is INSISTING that the best driver is this generic driver from 2006. The display also shows up in the wrong place in the device manager. It's not in the HID list. I'm also having issues with the wireless since an update. It, for lack of a better term, stutters. Other devices will connect just fine and stay connected. But this laptop will drop the connection or simply not 'see' the network. Any help is appreciated.

Hello, I bought an HP Envy 15-J170us laptop which now has a cracked touch screen. I don't know how it got cracked, I put it in my padded PC backpack and set it in the back of my car, with nothing on top of it, and when I opened it up it had several cracks in the display radiating from one of the microphone holes (at least I assume it those are microphone holes) in the top of the glass. If this could be covered by my warranty it would be great, but if not, I need to know how I can get the touch screen replaced. Thanks, Mathew Pierce

If you purchased accidental damage protection plan, then this would be covered as a part of this plan. This is not covered as a part of standard warranty. You can go to Manuals section and download the Maintenance and Service Guide which has the part number and the procedure to replace the screen: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Home.jsp?prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=5354982

Thank you for any help on this, as I am stumped. I was given an Envy x360 touch screen laptop from a friend who claims the sreen cracked on its own, and the touch functionality was thrown off. I never did a touch screen laptop, but I have done plenty of digitizers so I thought it would nto be a big deal. Initially I noticed that the touch screen was somewhat responsive, but BARELY. You could touch it, and it may or may not register somewhere else on the screen. Experience showed me that even if a digitizer is cracked, it can often maintain its functionality, especially if there is one clean crack, so I got suspicious out of the gate. Nevertheless, the digitizer came, and I put it in, looks brand new, but the touch was not there. I ran the erase block diag test, and when I put my finger all over the screen, blocks from other parts of the screen were being erased. Over a couple minutes, I got it down to like 10 blocks, but never could complete it. The drag and drop test was a complete lost cause. I read about issues when upgrading Windows that you could lose the touch, but this is in bios so I'm not assuming that could be an issue. So the screen was fixed, but that same lack of functionality was there. So I ordered a control board, the little board that sits on the edge of the monitor where to plug in the touch screen ribbons, I just put that in, no change. I have made sure that the ribbons are going in as far as possible, a number of times already. Any... Read more

Last week (after a Windows update?) my Envy touch screen stopped working. I've read the instructions to uninstall / reinstall the drivers; however, in my list of "Human Interface Drivers" there are no drivers related to the touch screen (the only two are HID-compliant wireless radio and wireless button driver, nothing else). So my question - where do I go to FIND and INSTALL the correct driver for the touch screen? I assume that the missing drivers are the problem.  Searching for my laptop model and going to the available drivers, there is nothing there for a touch screen (?). I also tried to perform the UEFI Hardware Diagnostics tests to detect problems with the touch screen hardware -- looking under "Component Tests" there isn't even an entry for "Touch Screen". Help! I love having a touch screen and since it stopped working, I am no longer using my personal laptop. Thank you

Hello, I just got my new laptop yesterday. One thing that I noticed immediately is that the screen has faint streaks / bands vertically. I was able to take a pic of it below. Look at the wording "hoose your picture" and notice the purple-ish band that goes vertically above the letters "ur" on the word "your" .Also if you look at the middle area between the two black lines, to the right of the word "Picture", you can see alternating faint bands. Display driver is up-to-date. Help?

A:HP Envy Log In with Touch Screen Numeric Keypad PIN

I think I got a similiar problem with my HP Spectre x360 13-4132ng, Windows 10 64-bit.The login with touchscreen and PIN is possible but sometimes (often), when I click on the input box for the PIN on the login screen, the PIN-keyboard appears for a second but immediately disappears again. So I start the laptop and move my finger upwards on the touchscreen (so that the users are shown). Then, I am able to enter my PIN with the keyboard. But the problem is that it takes about 10 seconds (5 to 20) to get the on-screen keyboard appear. I tap on the input box with my finger, so that the on-screen keyboard (with numbers only) appears, but then, half a second later, the on-screen keyboard disappears again. After trying this several times (tapping the input box 3 to 10 times), the on-screen keyboard finally remains displayed.

My Lenovo U410 Touch recently got damaged - the hinge broke causing the touch screen to **bleep**.I was told that a repair was not feasible as none of the repair shops near me were able to source the parts needed.I therefore bought a new laptop. However, there is a lot of data on the old laptop that I want to access, including sorting out the licensing of MS Office (by uninstalling from the old one).I cannot do anything about it as the old machine is completely unusable as due to the touch screen being cracked, it seems to think it is constantly being touched in multiple places on the screen. This means that I cannot access the laptop to copy the data or uninstall Office. Anyone know any way around this that doesn't involve taking it to a repair shop to "recover" my data. Cheers

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details). If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forum.

The touchscreen stopped working suddenly. At first i though it was like a normal failure and that will get fixed by turning the pc of or restarting so I did not pay attention to it until now that I had restart my pc multiple times. Currently running win10. I started to believe it was because of an update a few days ago since it was when the problem started. I have checked for the HID-compliant Touch Screen driver.

battery not in recall but same as ones recalled. the battery bracket only had 2 of the 4 screws it should have had like they knew it was going to expand. it warped the case damaged one circuit board and would not boot up because it would power on for only 5 seconds. wondering how to contact hp to let them know they have additional problems with soft case batterys.

Hey everybody, I just received my P40 last week as a replacement for another Lenovo device. So far, everything seems to work fine with one exception: When I turn the screen over to the "tablet position", the touch screen and the touch pen show erroneous behaviour.a) As soon as I make the first input with the touch pen, I cannot make any further input with my finger, so the touch input is simply turned off. The Windows setting to ignore touch input when the stylus is used is not active.b) When I try to tap buttons at certain areas of the screen, especially at the upper edge, the cursor of the stylus starts jumping around and shows up at the lower edge of the screen. That means that when I for example tap on the "X" symbol in the upper right corner to close a window, I actually click on some of the symbols in the system tray in the lower right corner. This problem stops occuring as soon as the angle between the two case parts (screen and keyboard) reaches/exceeds approx. 40°. It does not matter if Windows is in "Tablet" or "Desktop" Mode. I already tried to manually install another Wacom driver mentioned at https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Wacom-Tablet-Service-for-ISD-Driver-Win... and https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/P40-Yoga-issues/td-p/3293985. I had no luck trying driver versions 7.3.3.12, 7.3.4.8 and 7.3.4.13. I would really appreciate your help since this issue makes working in the tablet position... Read more

Hello everyone, my touch screen on my lenovo ideapad z400 touch is not working anymore.  The only weird thing I remember is some ghost touchpoint on my screen. I've been looking for the answer to this issue, but it seems that Lenovo does not address this problem.  If someone has found the solution to this problem and wants to share it with me, I will be forever grateful.

Hello, My Thinkpad Yoga is connected to a large display through ThenkPad docking station.  Its lid is closed.   During my work, from time to time I see random touch clicks on my screen, and random opening of menus.  It is clear that the touch screen is active although the lid is closed.  When I open the lid, and still connected just to the 2nd display (large screen) display the phenomena stops.  Worth noting is that although only the 2nd display shows an image, the laptop touch screen is still sensetive to touch.  This is I guess why the random touches show up on the screen -- it feels the keyboard not fingers. I expect the touch screen to be disabled while the lid is closed or when projecting only to the 2nd screen.  The solution of opening the lid while connected to the docking station is not acceptable.  Lenovo's local support suggestion to disable touch for the Yoga is also not acceptable -- people purchase Yoga to get Touch.   A solution please! Yaron

I am experiencing the very same thing.A driver/BIOS update would be very much appreciated, dear Lenovo.

I want to buy this mouse to better work with my laptop.
Can somebody give me some feedback on how this glas pane works instead of a scrollwheel? Handling, etc.

A:Logitech Touch Mouse 400 for a Laptop with no touch screen

Sorry I can't answer your question, but this post piqued my interest. I use the Logitech 620 touch mouse on a Windows 7 box at work. I find a little touchy and has to tweaked. But I haven't tried the 620 on Windows 8. Because I'm always looking for the perfect mouse, I think I might just pick up the 400 tonight and let you know.

The touchscreen stopped working suddenly on my Envy TouchSmart Sleekbook 4-1115dx. At first i though it was like a normal failure and that will get fixed by turning the pc off or restarting so I did not pay attention to it until now that I had restart my pc multiple times. Currently running win10. I started to believe it was because of an update a few days ago since it was when the problem started but all drivers and everything is up to date. I have checked for the HID-compliant Touch Screen driver and had to  show hidden divices in order to find it. I cannot enable it and when i check in the properties the following message displays: "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer." I have no idea on how to connect or how it got disconnected. I come from a similar thread but did not solve my problem. I have been researching this for hours and have not found and answer. Help please!

Not only are "pen and touch" no longer in my control panel, HID-compliant touch screen is not in my device manager.  Needless to say, my touch screen is non-responsive.
I have a Compaq Elite 8300.
I had problems before but everything was working 24 hours ago and I didn't make any changes since then.

Hi there, sorry to be a bother.Like the title says, my touch screen stopped working. I went on to my computer one afternoon and found my mouse stuck in the top left corner, fidgeting. This was what I was expiriencing. (My touch-screen still worked fine at the time, but I still couldn't do anything or control the mouse, but I could tell that it was still working and it still responded.) After a bit of time and a few restarts later, it went back to normal, but my touch-screen then stopped working. I'm used to the touch-screen working incorrectly occasionally, and much like the mouse thing, a restart or two helps. It has now been three days and my touchs-creen still does not work. I've tried many of the solutions found in these forums, but to no avail. I am running Windows 10 and have had this computer for 2+ years.  Thanks.

The trackpad (from how it seems) causes Windows to switch to touch mode on the W541. What triggers touch mode?- Using the trackpad;- Unlocking the laptop. So why care if the W541 does not have any touch capabilities anyway?- Apps switch to touch mode which enlarges elements and makes work inefficient;- Websites switch to touch mode which makes certain web elements unusable;- The notifications button is moved off the screen for a while (see attachment);- The famous touch keyboard button shows up in the taskbar. What we have tried so far:- Updating all drivers provided by Lenovo;- Disabling tablet mode from Settings ? Tablet mode;- Disabling the Synaptics Pointing Device from Device Manager;- Disabling Human Interface Devices (even though nothing with ?touch? is listed here) from Device Manager;- Disabling all trackpad features from Synaptics. The way to work from the W541 is to use a mouse without ever touching the trackpad and to never lock the laptop which is ridiculous. Operating system: Windows 10 Enterprise (issue also confirmed on Windows 8)
