Cant Hear Sound From Laptop's Speakers After A Popping Sound

Q: Cant Hear Sound From Laptop's Speakers After A Popping Sound

I have an HP dv6000t laptop, XP, the sound card is Conexant HD Audio. For the dv6000t model, the audio jacks (there are two, for two headphones) are at the front of the laptop, below the touchpad facing you.I tried connecting a DELL sound system that i got default with my dell desktop years ago. It comes with a subwoofer that connects (black plug and green plug) to the two audio jacks and you connect two speakers to the subwoofer. When I plugged in the green plug from the subwoofer to the right audio jack, there was a popping sound. I quickly pulled the wire and from there, no audio would play from my laptop's speakers.I can only play sound through headphones, and through the subwoofer to the speakers.I looked at the device manager, checked the "sound, video, and game controls" and it said everything was working properly, updated, and there were no red X's or exlamation points. My laptop speakers can't play system sounds, or any music. When I open the "Volume Control" window, click on advanced, under Tone Controls, there Bass and Treble are greyed out and I cant slide the bar left or right. I used to be able to.Please help. Thanks in advance. I'll try to make some screen shots asap.i made ms paint diagrams and uploaded to imagebeaveri made the above images using ms paint and google images. this is my first time using imagebeaver but hopefully its uploaded correctly.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello fellow community, I've been having trouble since about 2 days back, my headset and my speakers worked just fine till i shut the computer down for the night. then the following morning there was just no sound, I kinda tried everything these days but nothing works...Anyway, I got a steelseries 3h VR headset and some kind of speakers, I know that they both work ( I tried it on my dads computer) so there's no problem with them i guess. Hi.

When you plug in your headphones make sure they are not muted. In the bottom right of the screen click on your speakers icon. Worth a shot especially if they work in Ubuntu.

If that is correct then right click on the icon and then click on 'Volume Control Options' and make surethe settings are correct for your headphones.

Hello all,

My windows 7 x64 Pro is up to date, and I use latest SB drivers (XFTI_PCDRV_LB_2_17_0008) for my XFI Titanium Pro Fatality.

Everything works fine except that I hear myself in speakers even if the microphon's "Listen to this device" checkbox is unchecked.

If I check it, I hear double echo in it.

I have no other microphones or webcams connected to my computer, and if I disable this device I don't hear myself anymore in the speakers.

Am I doing something wrong or is it Creative drivers that are not compatible with windows 7 x64 ?

Thank you in advance for your help,
Astronaute

A:Sound Blaster - I hear myself in speakers

I don't think there is any option to mute the microphone. This has been a major complaint for as long as people have been using microphones with PC's. The fact there is no muting of the mic in the playback speakers is the reason most use a headset/mic combo - to minimize the feed back problems.

Audacity says when I press 'record': 'Error while opening sound device.'

Check your DPC latency with something like LatencyMon

Press play and let it monitor for a few minutes, if the bars with the highest interrupt to process latency , dps and isr routines goes to red switch to Drivers tab, sort by Total Execution Time and see what you have there. The drivers with the highest execution time can be responsible for your sound popping issue.

Hi,
I just bought a Dell Inspriron 15 7000 series laptop. I want to use a pair of Altec Lansing desktop speakers with it to listen to music. They are probably about 5 years old and work fine with my ipad and with my older HP laptop that I just replaced. However, when I plug them into the Dell, they make a popping sound and then continue to pop somewhat randomly while I'm playing music. The internal laptop audio works fine on the Dell itself, for videos, PC sounds, etc.
Any idea how to fix this so I can use the speakers? Maybe a different driver? I don't want to screw up the internal sound.
Thanks,
Karen

Yesterday I installed a new external hard drive - following the installation - my sound no longer played through my television (video is fine, HDMI connection) and sound now comes ONLY through the laptop speakers.

The option for HDMI Audio doesn't appear in the 'sound' menus. I have 'checked' "shoe disabled" and "show disconnected" in those menus.
Basic Specs:

DV7-4060us

Windows 7/64bit

IDT High Definition Audio Codec

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon 4250

I have tried the following fixes gleaned from other forum posts on similar forum posts:

Uninstalling and reinstalling IDT drivers - didn't work.

HP driver 'recovery manager' to install 'original' IDT audio codecs - didn't work.

Unistalled ATI Video Drivers , and reinstalled them - didn't work

System Restore to a week ago - didn't work.

I use my HD TV as my primary monitor for gaming, so having sound through laptop speakers and not TV is quite annoying.

Perhaps my only solution is another sound card?

A:no sound through tv via hdmi, sound plays through laptop speakers (idt

So you're trying to get audio to play on your TV from your laptop? Since you said the video is fine it's obviously not the video drivers. It sounds like the sound output is configured wrong. I don't think it would be labeled as HDMI. HDMI is just DVI with HD Audio. Try altering your sound settings to see what you can get.

Audio is a very difficult thing to diagnose and fix.

The last few weeks my Y50-70 always took a bit longer to show the Lenovo BIOS screen after turning it on and during that time ~ twice per second there was a popping sound coming from my external speakers. Also the HDD light was blinking to that sound. But when the laptop showed the BIOS screen after a few seconds everything else was normal and I had no problem in daily use / gaming, ... Since yesterday my laptop doesn't start anymore at all. I still get the same popping noise from my external speakers or more of a clicking noise from the internal speakers if I unplug my external speakers. First I thought it's an HDD failure, but even without HDD I get the same sounds and no BIOS screen at all and the HDD works without problems in an external case. The screen stays black all the time. The fans are turning normally. I'm no expert, but for me it seems my mainboard died. Or is it something else? Does anyone know the problem and a solution? Sadly my warranty period is over (2 years, 8 months old laptop). I checked online and saw a website saying they take 379? for mainboard replacement... is there a cheaper way? Kind regards, Torben

I keep getting a message to say that there is no audio hardware available or there is a fault. Or a message sayign there is no audio mixer. I can hear sound when the PC boots up and if someone MSN's me, I can hear sound so the card or whatever must be working but I cannot hear CD's or Itunes or You Tube. I have not, knowingly, removed anythign from the hardware so why is this happening?

I have gone to Control Panel, Add Hardware etc, but al the options are greyed out. How can I reinstall or sound?

Sorry to sound a bit vague but I am not the worlds most knowledgeable PC person. I just want my sound back and I don't know how it got turned off or deleted in the first place.

Thanks for any help

Hello,

I got my HPg61-429wm laptop back from the computer shop, I had a problem with my fan. Before that, my headphones worked like normal, so I don't know if taking the computer apart to replace the fan might have messed with the headphone jack somehow or what. My headphones worked for my mp3 player, so I know it's not them. When I plug my headphones in, the sound plays from the speakers instead.

I've tried going to sound in control panel -> sound, setting independent headphones as default with the green circle by it, nothing happened, yet this seems to solve most other people's problems.
I tried using Everest and under PCI/ PnP (no idea what this is) I have two "High Definition Audio Controller [NoDB]" listings. I google that, and someone mentions to download Realtek AC 97, so I do that, install - nothing.

I tried uninstalling the sound drivers from device manager. The ones I have are ATI High Definition Audio Device and IDT High Definition Audio Codec. I tried right click -> update, going to HP's audio drivers and installing them. I went to IDT's page, and they just redirect you to the computer brand manufacturer for audio drivers. I have no idea where to find audio drivers from ATI.

I used dxdiag and this is what the sound tab says:
Name:Speakers and Headphones (IDT High Definition
Hardware ID:HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_7608&SUBS

Don't know if the name is supposed to be that or not, sadly I never... Read more

I have the same problem on my Toshiba Satellite L755 laptop.  Headphones and external speakers work fine, but the internal speakers work for roughly 30 seconds & quit.  To diagnose the problem I booted from a Ubuntu DVD and tried it; got the same results.  That means it's a hardware problem.  So at first I bought cheap external speakers which circumvented the problem, but my wife didn't like the extra wires (women!), so I got a $35 Bluetooth speaker which sounds better and doesn't require any wires to the laptop.

Good luck.

Not knowing what you did, all we can do is guess and try to help you.

Not sure if System Restore (back to an available restore date that is before whatever you did) will help or not, but one option to try.

Uninstalling/reinstalling the RealTek will probably do it. Actually just installing the latest RealTek will first uninstall the existing, have you restart the PC (Important step do not bypass this) and then will do a new install.

I have an INspiron 9100 and it's about 3 months old. Occasionally, I hear a popping sound that is similar to plastic cracking or snapping while in use and even when I turn it off. It's not the hard drive, power supply, nor is it the sound card. In fact I get a similar noise from the TV in my room and the TV across the hall. It's a random single POP or SNAP not the same as interference type sounds. It doesn't occur often, but it's enough for me to notice. What is causing the sound? Is it serious? Thanks in Advance.

Lately, when I connect my Dell 5559 laptop to my TV using an HDMI cable  no sound comes from the tv speakers. This is a recent development ; the first few times the connection worked, with sound coming through the tv  and controllable by the  tv remote.
The only thing I recall doing one day was using headphones to listen while viewing a streamed tv show. I do not know if that caused the problem.
When I click on the sound icon on the taskbar and see  playback devices all I see active is Speakers and Headphones as the default device. There is nothing like " Use HDMI for Playback or Palyback input." I have checked through the ControlPanel/ sounds and there is nothing to show an HDMI sounds option.
The laptop speakers are fine. The headphones work. I have searched the forum and the web for information but I cannot find a specific answer to my problem.
Please help. Thanks to all .

A:laptop to TV no sound through TV speakers

Bar50envThis is a recent development
Hello. It might have been caused by Windows Update. You could try using Windows System Restore to undo some of the changes that might have caused the problem.
Bar50envI cannot find a specific answer
Don't know the specific answer, but the first step is to reinstall the graphics drivers, which contain the controllers for HDMI audio. Go to the Inspiron 5559 drivers page to see links to all of the drivers that Dell has released for your model. Scroll way down to the Video category for graphics drivers. Your model has both Intel integrated graphics and AMD Raedon discrete, so download and install fresh copies of both.
Only get the ones for your operating system -- in the OS column, WT means Win10 and WB means Win8.1. There are drivers of different dates there. An older one might work better than the latest version, but to install an older one you first have to remove all files from any newer ones from the hard drive.

Hi I am trying to fix my cousins laptop for her. It is a Compaq Presario V6500 running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit.

The problem is that no sound is coming through the speakers. When I check the sound manager its just says "No audio devices are installed.". There are two sound programs that I can see are installed they are Realtek High Definition Audio and Conexant SmartAudio. I tried updating the Realtek driver and nothing changed. I then tried to update the Conexant driver but it just gives an error message along the lines of "cannot find device for driver" or when trying to open up the program, an error message "Could not find Conexant audio device, application cannot run properly." is displayed.

The only time you ever hear a sound is when an error message appears on screen and its a loud short BEEP. For example when uninstalling programs when the error message appears saying "are you sure you want to uninstall this program" you hear this BEEP upon pressing the OK button or trying to open up the SmartAudio program you also hear the BEEP.

Can anyone help with this problem.

All help appreciated,

Thanks, Christopher (Wooster)

Recently the sound from my laptop speakers stopped working. However my headphones (and external speakers) work fine. I also noticed a red light coming out of my headphone jack and after doing a little research, found that it was a problem in Macbooks (I don't have a Macbook) where the computer still thinks my headphones are plugged in.

I was wondering how to fix this glitch. I read about putting a matchstick in the headphone jack and trying to remove the jammed chip (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100305133701AA4HSiG) but I wasn't able to do that. Is there anyway to do it on the computer?

I'm using an Acer Aspire 3820, running Windows 7 Home Premium. The speakers are Realtek High Definition Audio.

Let me know if you need any more information. Thanks in advance!

About a week ago my sound stopped working after my laptop had been in "sleep mode" (from idle). When I clicked on the sound icon on the right side of the windows toolbar, "Digital Audio S/PDIF" was active instead of my default "High Definition Audio Device" (which status was unplugged). Since I'm on a laptop my speakers are obviously built in and can't be unplugged. At the same time a noticed addware behavior with my browser. Meaning there were several hyperlinks spread throughout every page that linked to adds.

I had experienced this a few months ago and figured, like last time, I had lost administrative rights to TrustedInstaller. After going into Windows>Sysytem32 and reclaiming ownership and admin, I began troubleshooting my audio from what little I know.
I ran several different scans and rid my system of a few minor things. (a tech in "virus and malware" said there wasn't anything removed to worry about)

I checked to see if all the audio dependent services were running, which they were.

I stopped and restarted the audio service.

I went to cmnd prompt and entered "shutdown /r /o and refreshed my system once it restarted (did not want to do a factory reset and lose everything)

I deleted the audio driver and restarted. My system updated and re-installed the driver as expected.

After these steps Digital Audio is still default instead of the speakers and there is no audible sound being produced. Can somebo... Read more

A:No Sound from Laptop Speakers

After all the steps you described in here, I assume you already tried to default it by yourself on the Manage Audio Devices screen, since now the High Definition Audio Device should not be showing anymore as unplugged but working since the driver re-installation worked as expected. If by any chance you haven't, do it.

I recently finished fixing up my old Acer Aspire 4520 laptop, I installed windows 7, auto updated all the drivers with driver booster and thought I was set.

I tried to play sound through the built in speakers, no luck, I plugged in headphones, works perfectly, I plugged in external speakers, perfect audio.

But the built in speakers dont work, and its a laptop so who wants to carry around external speakers?

Any help would be great.

Note: This may be related to my WEI issue, it gets stuck on the last thing and says it cant complete video playback testing. I went to the videos its supposed to test and tried to open them with windows media player which results in an error, however opening them with VLC works fine.

A:Laptop Speakers No Sound

Most techies avoid the programs/sites that provide drivers, such as driver booster. They get drivers from the PC or motherboard vendor in most cases. There are some that can be downloaded direct such as Intel drivers or Realtek sound.

However, if the hardware is compatible, Windows 7 will install most drivers during the install. Actually, other than Windows installing the generic, basic function, High Definition Audio Drivers rather than the sound chip's drivers (if its Win 7 compatible) Win 7 usually installs what is needed.

It looks like this was originally a Vista machine. Vista drivers are applicable to Windows 7 as Win 7 is basically "Vista improved".

But, the first thing to check, the Audio Playback Device should be set to "Speakers". If its set to something else you would not get any speaker audio.

Several months ago I used Sound Recorder to record some songs using a USB microphone. I wrote in a file name and then played the songs back on Windows Media Player. When I recorded some songs this morning I went through the same steps but even though I saw the file in the WMP window, I could hear no sound when I clicked Play. I noticed the file was huge compared to other sound files. What did I do wrong? Of course I read through the instructions on the Help menu.

The only thing different between now and then is that I downloaded a trial WAVE editing program. I deleted this a few minutes ago but still can't hear any sound on the stuff I recorded this morning. I can still hear the older songs, though, when I click Play.

Another question: What is a good sound editing software program for someone who wants to do just basic editing tasks?

Fooling around with this problem this morning without any success has made me feel like an idiot and has drained my energy.

A:Sound Recorder: I can't hear the sound

Hello Tommy,

You may need to do this below first if you have not already to be able to record what you hear.

"What U Hear" Recording - Enable

Just to double check.
Sound Recorder - Open and Use

I'm afraid that I do not know of any good sound editing software though. Hopefully someone will come along soon to answer that one.

Hope this helps some,
Shawn

My system is a Toshiba Satellite M115-S1061 laptop. A few days ago it started having problems booting. So I reinstalled Vista Ultimate, and now I have no sound. I made sure it's not muted, made sure the volume is turned up, but still nothing. I also tried updating the driver, but system says driver is up to date. My "Playback Devices" only lists headphones. But there's no sound from the headphone jack either. Any ideas?

A:No sound coming from laptop speakers...

Go into device manager and make sure that they are no "?" by anything. Most sound drivers have multiple devices. It could be that one or more of them is not installed properly.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I have a sony vaio VGN-NW310f laptop with Windows 7. Up until 2 days ago everything was perfect, but suddenly I am getting no sound from the speakers. If I plug in headphones I get sound, but if I unplug headphones, nothing! Well, the computer acts like the sound is working, but I hear nothing.
Right now speaker properties shows I have "High Definition Audio Device" by Microsoft. I know that I had realtek speakers before, but in my attempt to "fix" my problem, I clicked "roll back driver" and somehow lost the realtek and now have the microsoft speakers. I guess it doesn't really matter which speakers I have as long as they work!
Any idea how to get sound again!?
Thanks

Use the System Restore and restore the PC back to a date when it did work correctly. System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools. System Restore will not delete any user data or e-mails. As noted select a restore date that is back when it did work correctly.
