Increase brightness on old monitor?

Q: Increase brightness on old monitor?

I have a really old monitor and it's very dark. I have the brightness turned all the way up on the monitor but it's still really dark. Does anyone know a way to get it brighter? Is there a program or something that I could run that brightens the display up?

I know this is possible because you can adjust the brightness in games and then minimize the game and Windows will be brighter. I just need some more practical way of doing it.

I don't know if it'll matter but I've got an NVIDIA GeForce3 (Ver. 6.14) graphics card.

And no, I'm not buying a new monitor quite yet.

Thanks for any help!

Preferred Solution: Increase brightness on old monitor?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Increase brightness on old monitor?

You may be able to adjust the brightness in the display properties of your video card. Go to Display in Control Panel and then to settings and Advanced. My ATi card has gamma and brightness settings, yours should have some sort of setting too.

I like to set brightness to 50% at all times, but over the time it resets to the full strength (probably because of games), so I have to cut it by half again to 25% and then again to 14%, until it can not be lowered anymore, last time I ended somewhere around 3%.

I tried to set it to full, uninstall GPU drivers, restart, install them again, but it never got fixed.
It is not really a problem, I have it at 18% right now, I am just wondering, what is causing it?

A:Why does brightness increase over the time?

Display control centers usually mess with these settings.

For example AMD catalyst control center or Intel HD control center run services which might reset whatever you do.
making fixed changes there ( In control center ) could solve or at least explain what is going on.

Also Windows updates ( on fresh Windows usually ) reset screen settings.

Hi all,

Bit of a tricky one here.

I just bought a replacement screen for my Dell Studio 17 1745. I don't believe it is actually a dell replacement part but here is the link. http://www.laptop-lcd-screen.co.uk/laptopparts/DELL-STUDIO-17-1745-17.3-LAPTOP-SCREEN_12053.asp

Anyway fitted it, fairly straight forward, had some bother with a dodgy display cable but other than that seems to be working fine. Now here's where it gets tricky.

If I press brightness on the f keys, or through the system display properties I get nothing, not even mildly brighter or dimmer, yet the on screen brightness display shows up. Figure that one out! I'm totally stumped I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the AMD HD drivers and got nowhere. I tried downloading a third party brightness and display adjustment piece of software but it couldn't even recognise my screen let alone let me do anything about the brightness.

And (this might help but to me it only makes things more confusing) when I start up the screen is so dark it's virtually off, no backlight or something I don't know but I can see a vague negative image of the windows logo. But once loaded the desktop and all programmes run normally, except the issue with not being able to change the brightness (which by the way isn't a huge problem, I'd increase slightly but it's fine).

Can anybody help me? I'm out of ideas

A:Replacement screen and now brightness won't increase

Does the replacement have exactly the same part number as the original screen ?
It should be written on the back of the screen assembly.

Assuming that it does double check all the cable connections, especially those to the inverter (which usually controls the brightness). Is it the original inverter ?

I have a new z500 that I've downgraded to Windows 7 64bit. For the most part I have everything working. I accidentally hit the brightness + (yes, +) and it instantly dimmed the screen to where it is barely viewable. It seems that hitting that one key decreased the brightness to the minimum amount. I've rebooted, looked for a setting in the BIOS, hit the Brightness +/- and can't increase the brightness. It is interesting because the other hot keys work correctly. I've even upped the brightness in the Control Panel, but nothing seems to work. The screen is extremely dim whenever the machine is powered on (including the BIOS), not just in Windows. I tried a lot of intel chipset drivers, the available Intel HD 4000 drivers in Win8 and win7 too, but nothing working. Can someone please help with how to up the brightness?

A:New Inspiron 15 7570: Any way to increase screen brightness?

I assume you've already maxed out the display brightness using the keys on the keyboard dedicated to that purpose?  If so, make sure Adaptive Brightness is disabled under Advanced Power Options > Display since that can sometimes reduce brightness due to ambient lighting.  If that still doesn't get you where you want to be, then it's possible the display simply can't go as bright as you wanted, although comparing to a smartphone isn't exactly fair.  Smartphones are designed to be usable outdoors, which requires far higher brightness to achieve, whereas laptops typically are not designed for that particular use case -- but the result is that smartphones will practically always be brighter than laptop displays.

I've got a huge increase of heat coming from my PC since I switched to a newer Monitor. Even my HDD has increased since using the Monitor. I've installed the drivers from BenQ but it hasn't made any difference. Even on idle they seem too high. Is this normal for the Size and Resolution?

The CPU has increased the most, I was expecting my Graphics Card to take a hit.

It most certainly can be. Compared to the old 1024x768 monitor that is a piece of cake. But now you are in the HD realm pushing 1920x1080 images at 60 frames a second. That can make any computer work harder.

I recently attached a CTX 17" X701A LCD monitor to my computer (OS: Win2KPro). The monitor works fine at a resolution of 800x600 and a refresh rate of 75 Hertz (the same settings I used for my Viewsonic CRT). The display looks to me as if it were slightly concave, but I think that is an optical illusion because my Viewsonic screen was slightly convex and my eyes got used to that over the years. The text is slightly larger than that with the Viewsonic, but that is OK. However: I notice that the brightness of the screen varies from slightly darker in the upper left corner to slightly lighter in the lower right corner. Is this (1) another optical illusion, (2) a typical windows effect, (3) a typical property of LCD monitors, or (4) a defect? The variation is not enough to bother me and my wife does not notice it at all, but I am a little curious about what is going on.

I think that's just your video card type. If your monitor is old and this has been gradually getting worse then it could be going. You can usually adjust the brightness with your video card settings.

Right click desktop, choose properties, settings, advanced. You may have to try a few of the tabs to find the controls.

Their may be a 3rd party program that does what you want but I think it depends on the video card and monitor you have.

I have a 50,000 to 1 ratio contrast monitor and had to use the software management that came with it to adjust properly so it won't burn my eye balls.

I've tried the menu button, and the up down buttons don't work, but if I push the menu button again, it drops down to standard. I push the button again, and I get a box asking yes or no. It's set on no. I push again and it returns to standard, push again and I'm in a back and forth loop. How do I get the buttons to work? Any and all responses will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A:Brightness Option for Monitor is Greyed Out

I think the brightness controls in Windows are usually there for laptops where there isn't a separate monitor with separate controls.

But it sounds like you have separate monitor - can you not just turn down the brightness control on the monitor itself? You may have a menu button on the monitor, or there may be a good old fashioned knob that you can twist.

If not there may be a way to adjust if via the Graphics driver on the computer (right-click on a blank patch of the Desktop and select Graphic Properties perhaps) - but I suspect changing it on the monitor will be easier.

I have an IBM E74 monitor. And I was wondering what is the best way to set it to get the best color and brightness for games and such.

For color tempurature ( what ever that means) Do I use 9300k or 6500k

Or do I make my own configuration? Now the brightness and contrast I can set using myself using some online color calibration tool. But the color tempurature always confuses me. I know this might sound like a dumb question, but I am curious.

A:How do I configure my monitor for optimum color and brightness?

Color perception varies significantly between people, so you need to set it for what you prefer.

Remember about 10% of all males are color-deficient or color blind!

The link below may help (it's related to color photograph viewing) but for games and general use, the correct setting is the one you like.

Having an issue with my main rig with screen brightness. I have a pair of 28" monitors, one connected with DVI and one connected with HDMI. Both run into my primary videocard, which is a EVGA GTX560ti. I have 2 of those as well, but they are normally NOT running in SLI.

1. In device manager the gtx 980m display adapter has a warning triangle on it and this message when I double click on it:
"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
This has been constant throughout the whole ordeal
2. Whenever connecting a monitor as soon as I plug it in the monitor lights up as if it were going to work and just says hdmi not connected then goes to sleep. Nothing is detected in device manager.

My daughter has a Yoga 3 Pro 1370 that has a problem controlling the brightness. The brightness is on full and cannot be changed via the keyboard or via Microsoft Mobility Center. There is also a problem connecting to an external display (no display is detect). All this use to work as recently as 2 days ago. The OS is Windows 10 64-bit April Update 1803. The current HD Grpahics 5300 driver is 20.19.15.4642 (3/22/2017) and the monitor driver is Generic PnP Monitor 10.0.17134.1 (6/21/2006). I tried updating both but it says these are the latest drivers. There is no driver rollback available (greyed out). The Lenovo graphics driver (10.18.15.4278_PV) and the latest Intel HD Graphics driver (15.40.38.4963) would not install (indicating not validated for this computer). I also ran the System File Checker and everything is fine. Any help/solution with these problems is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
