How do I connect an Inspiron 7737 to a Dell P2815Q monitor (with USB?)

Q: How do I connect an Inspiron 7737 to a Dell P2815Q monitor (with USB?)

I have connected the monitor to the laptop with an HDMI cable and the monitor says there is no signal in the HDMI port. Then (a couple of minutes later), the signal is received and the monitor shows what I have in my laptop. However, this is intermittent and the signal is lost and restored. This happens sometimes when I’m opening a new program or the program I’m using starts to use more resources from the processor. I already have installed the monitor driver for Dell P2815Q. I’m using Windows 10.
I’m thinking that maybe I will have better luck with a USB 3 cable. What do you recommend?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: How do I connect an Inspiron 7737 to a Dell P2815Q monitor (with USB?)

USB would mean DisplayLink, which has a number of drawbacks compared to attaching the display to an output directly controlled by the GPU, such as possible compression artifacts and/or motion judder during times of high CPU and/or USB utilization, or simply when large portions of the display area are changing simultaneously. Additionally, due to a Windows limitation, your GeForce dPGU would not be able to accelerate any content displayed on a DisplayLink-attached display. But about your specific issue, given that you're trying to run 4K, have you tried just swapping the HDMI cable? Not all HDMI cables are equal when it comes to pushing very high bandwidth. That said, I don't know if that system's HDMI port will even do 4K @ 60 Hz, since that requires HDMI 2.0 and most Dell systems I've seen have only had HDMI 1.4, which would limit you to 4K @ 30 Hz or 1440p @ 60 Hz.

I am picking up the XPS 15 this week and currently have two P2815Q monitors I am using with the Microsoft Surface Book.  Currently these are connected to the Surface Book via a single mini-display port cable with the 2rd 4K connected to the first via mini-display port.
So my question is how do I connect these monitors to the XPS 15.  I understand the XPS has Thunderbolt and a single HDMI 1.4 port.  While HDMI 1.4 is not capable of driving 4K at 60hz, I'm also wondering what the new Dell Dock is going to bring to the game here.
Would love some help, so thanks in advance.

Hi! I recently upgraded the RAM in my laptop to 16GB, however it's only showing 12GB. I double-checked the specifications and 16 is the maximum that it can run. I've performed all updates (including the BIOS) but it doesn't increase. I also ran hardware diags and everything passed with no problems. The BIOS only shows 12 available as well. I'm at a loss, does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi All,

I have a new Dell Inspiron 7737 that will random blue screen or crash throughout the day. No rhyme or reason. This is a fresh install of Windows 8.1 Pro on a Samsung 840 Pro SSD.

Here's What I tried:
- Updated drivers. Either from Dell or Intel websites
- Updated/Reinstall of DirectX
- Installed Samsung SSD Magician to apply SSD settings to Windows
- Updated BIOS
- Disabled sleep and hibernate
- Set Windows Driver Framework service startup type to Automatic
- Memtest passed
- SSD health is normal
- Latest firmware for SSD
- Malware scans

Doesn't matter if on AC power or battery. Not plugging in new hardware. This just doesn't make sense for a new out of the box laptop with a fresh install.

I've attached SF diagnostic tools reports with last 4 dumps. Any help would be appreciated before I go down the tech support rabbit hole.

I have a dell inspiron 7737  which is the warranty period is over and now the laptop keep beeping 1 time then after 2-3 sec then beeping again. The screen of the laptop is blank, some of the time the laptop will successful get into window after many times of the beeping session. What of the solution for this issue, and is it I change the CMOS battery will fix this issue?

A:Dell inspiron 7737 beeping 1 time

Firstly, the next time system boots into windows, ensure you copy / save all your important data.
The one beep is a BIOS ROM failure which ideally indicates a possible motherboard failure - check this article - http://dell.to/1IuETMX
Create a bootable USB using Rufus - http://bit.ly/1mmhOE1 - copy the BIOS file to that - http://dell.to/2hjuxac - and try to flash the BIOS.
Try a BIOS recovery - http://dell.to/2eMNErl- although your system model might not be listed, please give it a try.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional. Also, run an extended / thorough tests on the HDD and memory to check for any possible errors.
You could try reseating the memory modules and the CMOS battery and check if required - download the service manual from the support site link above.
If nothing works, I would suspect a motherboard failure.
You could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
You could also order the parts here - http://bit.ly/2gxg8Zf
My personal suggestion is that you invest your money on a new machine than to repair this system. However, that is your discretion.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private convers... Read more

My three year old Inspiron 7737 running Windows10 Home has ground to a halt mainly because of 50-100% ST1000LM014-1EJ164 disk utilisation. I was thinking about replacing this disk with a 500GB SSD however I do not have my original Windows8 media and associated license key (and this would need to be upgraded to Windows10 which I achieved free of charge). I currently have  643GB free of 913GB so this would be feasible if this could be achieved ideally without the need to purchase a Microsoft license and installing from scratch.
Is there a cost effective way of speeding up my laptop using my current licensed Windows10 OS?
Thanks in anticipation.

A:Improve Disk Performance : DELL Inspiron 7737

1) Your Windows 8 key would be embedded into your BIOS, so you wouldn't need it if you wanted to reinstall Windows 8.  But you don't even have to do that because....
2) When you upgraded to Windows 10, your system would have received a "digital entitlement" license.  Basically, Microsoft's activation servers have recorded that your system has a Windows 10 Home license, so you could perform a clean install of Windows 10 at any time and your system would activate just fine.  You'll never need a product key for that.
3) If you still want to avoid doing a clean install, use a tool like Macrium Reflect Free to capture an image of your system and restore it onto the SSD.  Or even better, buy a SATA to USB 3.0 adapter so you can connect your SSD temporarily that way, then do a direct clone of your existing drive onto the SSD, which Macrium Reflect Free can also do.  Then shut the system down, install the SSD internally, and you're good to go.

Please DELL update the shipped Realtek sound driver for Dell Inspiron 7737 and others that have this problem to the needed version "Realtek High Definition Audio Version" instead of "Realtek High Definition Audio Version" or lower!

Finally fixed this. NONE of the solutions above worked for me. I have an Dell Inspiron 7737 that has Realtek High Definition audio. The latest drivers from DELL or latest I could download from Realtek site ("Realtek High Definition Audio Version" / "Realtek High Definition Audio Version") didn't make a difference. Skype microphone was not usable (I had to literally speak in the microphone - 1 cm away to be usable).

PREVIOUS ANNOYING SOLUTION (just in case the real solution doesn't work for everyone): previously I went in device manager, update driver, "let me choose" / "pick from available"... then selected "High definition audio" - so the generic driver from Microsoft. That fixed the problem but realtek specific things like jack sensing didn't work anymore so it was annoying. Also every now and then (when windows update happened I think) it reverted back to the broken Realtek driver and had to do this all over again or simply choose "rollback driver" once instead of update and then it would pin the driver to the generic "High definition audio" one.

SOLUTION: install this driver that is not available o... Read more

Hey everyone! Hopefully someone can help me. I've been having this problem for maybe 2 months now where my laptop would shutdown randomly and give me a real time clock error. I googled around and found that replacing the cmos battery would fix the problem. I tried it out but still i am getting this problem. Any ideas?

A:Dell Inspiron 17 7737 - Still getting real time clock error after replacing cmos battery

If the system is in warranty, call Dell for replacement of the reserve battery.
If it's out of warranty, try replacing the battery yourself (it's a CR-2032 button cell).  Manual is linked below.  If that doesn't solve the problem, the clock chip has failed and the mainboard will need to be replaced.

Hey All, I am looking to get a P2815q for work.  need the extra work space for productivity.  What I am concerned about is whether or not the laptop will be able to drive that monitor, plus the existing 1680x1050 monitor I currently have.  I tried to check Intel website for HD 4k max resolution, however, they report that max resolution is dependant upon individual laptop design.  Tried to look up on Lenovo site, and max specified is 2560x1600, which coincidentaly is the most common high resolution monitor resolution.  I suspect this is not a hard limitation.  If anyone knows, and can help me out that would be great. Thanks MuchMikel.

Bump.     Exactly same monitor but for the T440s.  Lenovo specifies the same limitation of 2560x1600.  I could order from Dell and try, but it's not like I have tons of free time on my hands to return the monitor if it doesn't work. Thanks, - Ryan

Morning all, first post here - excited to find this place.
Currently Running:
Dell XPS 8700
17 3.4ghz
32gb ram
AMD Radeon R9 270
64 bit windows 8.1
UltraSharp 2412m monitor
P2815Q 4k Monitor
SSD drive for OS
Okay, preliminaries out of the way.  My wife picked me up the 4k monitor a week ago to use as the main monitor and the ultrasharp is now my dual monitor used to extend the desktop.
I installed the monitor, ran the installation drivers from the cd, everything seemed to work well.  The colors seem a bit washed out and I need to sort out the brightness/contrast settings but that's just something I need to play with.  The real problem is that when my mouse is on the ultrasharp monitor's screen the movement of the mouse is fluid.  When I jump over to the new monitor it becomes staccato or choppy in it's movements almost as if there is a lag.
I'm tried removing the driver and re-installing but to no avail.  Not sure what to do but call Dell which is nearly always a joke in my experience.  Thought I'd ask the real experts.  It's a fairly new monitor so could it simply be a driver issue that's not been resolved?
Thanks in advanced for the help!

Does anyone have advice on how to download an actual user's guide for the "New" Inspiron 17 7737 User Manual/User Guide?  I just got off the phone with technical support and while they were good, they don't seem to understand what a User's Manual really is.  The existing download for the Dell User's Manual for the 17 7000 is actually a service manual.  That is, it tells you how to repair and replace parts to the laptop.  I'm looking for a user's manual that tells you, if you want to increase volume press the Fn key and the F3 key simultaneously.
All of this stems from trying to find out where "Num Lock" is shown as being on or off.  Technical support informed me that Num Lock is automatically on when the computer starts.  However, since there is no light, I can't really tell. Also, technical support told me that there will be a symbol, or some indication that will appear on the screen for a second or so.  Where will it appear?  I have no idea, and pressing the Num Lock key does not reveal any indication on my screen that I can see.
By the way, I have downloaded the Quick Start guide which shows the key and component locations.  That's not what I'm looking for.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Dell Inspiron 17 7737 came with Intel (R) Dual Band Wireless - N 7260 adapter. The adapter is "lost" after soon after upgraded to Windows 10. Windows 10 is not able to detect the adapter, as if it was not installed. Any attempt to update driver was blocked.
I managed to get Bluetooth driver updated and working. However, WIFI adapter is somehow "history". Currently I have to depend on external WIFI adapter. Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-N 7260 should be serving both Bluetooth and WIFI.
Does anyone experience this situation? How could we resolve this issue?

What happens when you turn on the system now? Do you see anything on the screen? What is the color of the power button led? Does the Dell logo come up when you turn on the machine?
If the system makes clicking noise, then the issue is with HDD.
If you are able to use the function keys, then read on:

Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - see if the HDD is detected in BIOS.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.
If this does not work, turn off the system - press and hold the "fn" key and Power button to turn on the system - and it should initiate the diagnostics.

If nothing works, then try reseating the memory modules or the HDD and check - download the service manual - http://dell.to/1h4bDMk
If the system is under warranty, then contact us via Twitter - @dellcares for faster communication or write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details. If there is no warranty, then we can help with a paid service call if required.

Hi everyone,
This morning when powering my laptop after it being on sleep mode it did 7 successive beeping noise in interval and did not boot, after a few try it finally booted without noise. I am concern that something may go wrong very soon what should I do?

A:Inspiron 7737 loud beeping noise when booting

Seven beeps is a processor or mainboard failure - since the CPU is a permanent part of the board, they're effectively the same thing on this model.  Try a system reset -- power off, unplug, remove or disconnect the battery, and remove and reinstall the memory modules and hard drive.  If the problem begins to re-occur, replace the mainboard/CPU.  This will be covered if the system is under warranty - if not, it's a major repair and will likely run a few hundred dollars.

I purchased a Inspiron 17 7000 (7737) with Windows 8.0.
I changed the hard drive for a Crucial M500 900gigs and installed Windows 8.1 Pro. I installed all Dell drivers for 8.1 and I don't have any unknown devices.
My problem is one the laptop goes in sleep mode, I can't allways wake it up. Moving Wireless mouse or touching keyboard or mouse pad, or power button doesn't wake it up. Other times, just moving the mouse works well.
I  changed power setting to not go into sleep mode, only turn off the screen, but it happened again.
I know that Microsoft Update is proposing a new driver for the nvidia 750, but not sure if I should install it.

A:Inspiron 7737 (17 7000) sleep mode problem

I call Dell support and she explained that sleep mode is a state that last around 30 minutes and then after, it goes into deeper sleep mode. At such point, I have to press power button until the laptop turns off. Then restart the laptop. I argued that is like pulling the power cord on a desktop and opened documents won't be save. She said that Dell recommends saving before leaving the laptop unattended.
I disabled sleep mode for the laptop and screen, to fix the problem.
I said I was going to install Windows 8.1 and asked about the installation order for installing the drivers. She left for a moment and return saying to follow the order listed on the web site. I said where is that mentioned. She said to look at the list of available drivers and that would be the order to follow. I said, I don't want to argue with you but this is an alphabetical order, nothing else. She kept saying that was the order.
In reality, I knew that was't true nor logical. While installing the drivers, I got three drivers that failed until I updated the nvidia driver. But by Dell's knowledgeable technicians, "V" stand for video and last item to install. Seriously!
But the call was not a waste of time as I asked for the way both HD 4000 and Nvidia GPU works, since Windows use only the Intel HD 4000. She explained that base on needed performances, Windows use either one. That decision process is managed by software. I didn't get to point of testing that fact.

It may not be the GPU drivers - in fact, given the description it's not.
If you're using a newer browser and the sites that don't work use Flash, that is one very strong possibility for the cause.

A:Laptop (Win7 Dell Inspiron 1525) won't connect to desktop (XP Dell) wireless router

Sometimes, you need to replace the router.
Sometimes, you can call your service provider and ask them to take a look on line to see if the subscription needs to be refreshed.
But often, all that is needed (despite the fact that it is a lot of work) is to uninstall your existing system, then reboot, and reinstall everything.
You might also find success by looking at your device manager in Windows to see if you have any grey, red, or yellow flags by any related device. That may show you have a permanent hardware failure if you cannot restore it, then you are off to the store or your provider for a new cable modem or router.

You will need to call Dell and verify your ownership details to have the password cleared.  Recovering the system to factory will clear the Windows password, but will not affect a powerup password.

Hi, I can't seem to get anything higher than 1920x1080 in the list of available resolution options when I connect my Dell U2713HM monitor to my Dell Inspiron 15 laptop. I've run this monitor at 2560x1440 on another laptop over HDMI in the past but that was with Windows 8. The Intel HD Graphics 530 Control Panel doesn't offer any resolutions above 1920x1080 for the external monitor and adding custom resolutions results in the error "the custom resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity". I'm using the same high speed HDMI cable that worked at 2560x1440 with this monitor on my previous laptop. I'm fully up to date on all of the drivers for the laptop.

I got almost the same problem as you, exactly after I updated the latest win 10 on Oct. 08 and tried to update my GTX960M driver (my laptop is Dell Inspiron 7559 bought in Japan). Failed on the half way finishing...... I also tried to reset my laptop, and went back to previous win 10 build, but both of them did not work. I guess there is a permanent damage on the graph card?

Hi everyone,
I have a new hardware:

Dell XPS13 (9360) with Thunderbolt 3
Dell U3417W 34" monitor  (3440x1440 px)

I have prepared everything on my table because I had no idea that new Dell only has Thunderbolt 3 and no mini display port. I was kind of surprised (in a bad way) that I will need another reduction.
The problem is that I can only input display port, mini display port and HDMI into the new Dell U3417W monitor. I am not sure how much resolution I can squeeze from HDMI, so what is left are those display ports.
Should I buy USB-C -> Display port cable like for e.g. Startech USB Type-C to Displayport cable, 1m (CDP2DPMM1MB) which could possibly do the job? Or perhaps even some Thunderbolt 3 cable?
I need to have 3440x1440 px @ 60 Hz where some of those cables support only @30 Hz and they do not explicitly state that 3440x1440px resolution is supported.
I would rather avoid those bugged Dell docking stations where the whole internet (e.g. Amazon) is snowed by users complaints.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi everyone,

I have a dell inspiron 6400 notebook which I am planning on connecting (permenently) to my TV to use with a remote keyboard. I am planning on just putting the computer on the shelf with my dvd player etc, so I was wondering if I could completely remove the monitor part of the computer so I don't have to take it out and lift the monitor to turn it on every time. If I disconnect the LCD, will the computer run fine if attached to the TV or will this throw it off in any way?

Thanks for any help in advance,

A:Dell Inspiron 6400 - run without monitor?

You do not need an external monitor for a laptop at all
Maybe I don't understand the question well enough, but a computer does not need a monitor to turn on and boot up, but a laptop has a built in screen, so I'm a tad confused anyway

My dell is not detect a 2nd monitor when I connect it to my Acer monitor.  I have tried using the VGA cable with a HDMI adapter.  I have also tried using a DVI to HDMI cable.  The Acer monitor only has VGA and DVI-D connections?  Is there another way to connect the 2nd monitor?

A:Dell Inspiron 3043 All in One- 2nd monitor?

You might want to consider using a USB2>DVI-D or USB2>VGA  adaptor to connect that second monitor, but they're not exactly cheap.
And if you buy one of these adaptors, make sure the one you get can (1) clone the internal display, (2) spread the desktop over 2 screens, and (3) show 2 different screens at the same time, and is compatible with whatever version of Windows you're using.

I added an external monitor to my Dell Inspirion 8200 and thought I'd be able to have a dual monitor setup. It appears that the laptop still treats it as if there's only 1 monitor. Am I going to be able to do this?

A:2nd monitor on Dell Inspiron 8200

On the laptop you have to press the Function key and one of the F# keys across the top to enable the second screen. Look for the key with a picture of a monitor on it. You can also likely enable it by going to the Control Panel, then Display and the Settings tab. right click on the second monitor and select enabled.

I have a friend that has a Dell Inspiron laptop that will not connect wirelessly.  I have used an ethernet cable and it connects and works properly.
When I run a check it says that the wireless is not turned on.  After doing some reading on Google I have found that you can press F2 and FN at the same time to turn on wireless.  I've tried that and it doesn't seem to work.
I've checked the router and the wireless is on.  The inernet also shows that it is connected.
I don't see a slider on the side of the case to turn on the wireless (I have a Dell XPS that uses a slider)
I would sure appreciate any and all other ideas on what I can try.  This Dell Inspiron is running Windows 7.  It has 4 gigs of RAM and a 500 gig hard drive.
Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Hello, I am trying to connect a Dell Inspiron Mini to my home wireless network. It was working last week with no problems. The status icon shows that it is connected to the network and gives an IP address. However, when I try and view a webpage I get "The page cannot be displayed". I have tried to "Diagnose Connection Problem" and it says there are no issues.

I have tried the ipconfig /release, ipconfig /flushdns, and ipconfic /renew and that spits out a new IP address but still no connection. Any help would be appreciated.

A:Dell Inspiron Mini will not connect to internet

Go to the Control Panel/Internet Connections. Right click your Local Area Connection/Properties scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP-IP) hit Properties. Make sure Obtain an IP Address Automatically is checked as well as Obtain a DNS Server Address Automatically. Browse to C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc open the Hosts file with Notepad. Delete any lines after localhost
Save the file. Do the ipconfig release, flushdns, and renew again.

A:Dell Inspiron 1545 Will Not Connect to Internet

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Have you tried connecting your laptop to different Wi-Fi networks and still can't connect?

Might be worth to update your laptop's Wi-Fi ethernet driver to the current one from Dell's support site.

If updating the driver didn't resolve your issue we'll need more information by following our networking preposting requirements to further assist you and provide you more troubleshooting guides.

Hello there my wife Dell Inspiron 1545 w/ Windows 7, laptop just stopped connecting to the internet. Last Sunday it was working fine then the following Monday she could not connect to the internet. I had tried all that I could think of and even call Belkin for help. Nothing was wrong with the router so they couldn't help me with the problem. I did a troubleshoot and the laptop gives the following problem. [The Diagnostics Policy Service is not running.] I have no idea in what that is and is hoping that someone can tell me. It do says that it have "Limited connection." Would appreciate it if someone could help to our problem.

A:Dell Inspiron 1545 won't connect to Internet

Be sure to test your connection with another computer first, to rule out cable modem and other hard ware issues.
The Inspiron 1545 does not have a bad record of failure with the ethernet port... but this one could be gone, and might be difficult to fix at your desk without the ability to connect.
You might want to go to the Dell site with another computer and download and save all the driver updates for that Dell Product ID, download and reinstall them via a usb drive or CD... as a early test.
If the Dell is still under warranty, Dell will send somebody to your home or shop for diagnostics... otherwise, you can short cut wasted time by finding a qualified or experienced tech to run a few tests.
Ethernet ports do burn out, randomly, on a number of system boards, though the expected failure rate is very low. We have never seen a failure on the 1545's we see in our shops. Yours may be a goner that only a motherboard repair or replacement will fix...
Good luck. Please let us know the final diagnosis and fix.
