I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Friends
begging for help here. have a new pc chips mobo that has an integrated modem [as well as network, etc]. supposedly it is an HSP56, whatever that means. i have tried every way I can to get a driver loaded that works and it always comes up as a "Code 10" under windows. in other words, when i pull up the device manager and check it, its listed as an "Other PCI" device, correctly identified as a HSP modem device, but "device not working properly"... if you go to the windows Modem wizard it simply can't find any installed modems.

I'm stumped. have looked everywhere for help with this and been directed to a handful of zip files of driver packages that should work, but don't. result always the same. I note that several of these packages utilize the same .inf and .vxd files.

win 98 is the SR1 plus package and is updated to the max. All other devices on the mobo are working properly [after a LOT of work....]

this is important as this client actually does use dialup!

Thanks

My modem problem is a little bit differnt from everyone elses.. The first modem I had wouldn't dial out at all, ( said it coulnd't detect a dail tone) so I tried a TON of stuff, and finally i bought a new one. The new one wouldn't work at all either, so I formatted and reinstalled win 98 se. I dind't put any other cards in it, and i just installed the modem first. I got the modem to dial with windows dialup application, but Microsoft networking won't dial up. When i start a dialup connection, i hear the modem give a dial tone, but it wont dial and it will say "no dial tone detected" but i hear the dial tone. I tried to reinstall the drivers, diff. com settings, disabled "detect dial tone" different phone line, different phone cable. any other suggestions? i want to go online with my new computer a.s.a.p!thanks

Hi folks - Please save me from pre-meditated modemicide.

I have just changed ISP from ADSL BT to DSL Virgin.

They've given me a stupid cable modem ( Scientific Atlanta) that is giving me so much grief.

I can connect my laptop via the Ethernet port on the modem (eventually) but when I try to connect the PC via a different cable it comes up with Limited Connectivity .. Grrrrr

So I tried to connect via the USB port and the same problem.

I have tried to change the control panel settings but to no use.

It took me a couple of days to get the laptop to connect via the ethernet cable but I have no idea how I managed to get it sorted!

I ask for your sagely advice

Regards

Andy.

Hello,
I have four computers at home, on on a VPN that my wife uses for her work and it's strictly hands off for me. Then I have a desktop as my main home computer, and two laptops. All are connected to the cable modem, two by Ethernet cords, two wirelessly.

My workplace has a Web-based email service. Most of the time, I can access it just fine. But now and then, and never with any consistency, I can't access the email portion of that site. I can access everything else on the site, just not the email. This is the same for all three of my home computers. When I hop on my Sprint card via my laptop, I can access my work emails just fine. When I resync my modem, then all is well and I can access my email just fine.

This is not a problem with Outlook, just the web-based email that I go to via a separate URL. Is there any way I can avoid this. I can't resync my modem while my wife is "at work" because she maintains a connection to "live" documents in Europe and it takes her up to 20 minutes sometime to reconnect to all the things she needs on the various servers she uses.

Even when my wife's computer is turned off, this dilemma resurfaces, until I resync the modem and routers.

Any suggestions. Keep it simple, I'm not as smart about the ever-emerging technology as I once was.

Here is my HiJackThis file in case it might help.
Thanks in advance guys.

My parents recently got a new modem for their AT&T internet service. When I 1st installed it and tried to go to a webpage, it took me to the modem's configuration page so we could log into the AT&T account. I did that and everything seemed fine. But now when my dad tries to go to that 1 particular website, it still automatically redirects to the modem's config page by adding "/cgi-bin/redirect.ha" to the end of the domain.

I don't think it's a virus, becuz it only happens w/ that site and it only happens w/ Firefox. I tried deleting all the cooking associated w/ that site (I don't want to delete all their cookies becuz it would take my parents forever to type in all their passwords, find sites they've visited previously, etc).

In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there any way to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901?

Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection. I am using Windows 7.

However when try to attach to the cradlepoint router it recognizes the modem however it shows it as off line and network miss configured.

Both modem and router have up to date firmware. I have used 3 different ctr500 routers with the same result. And yes it is compatible according to cradlepoint. And yes I have tried to connect another usb device that a friend had and it connected with no problems.

My service provider is melinicom who is a reseller for the sprint network and yes the device is a sprint franklin u300 device

Hey, I am trying to install a USB WWAN modem on my Vista laptop (2.33 ghz, 2 gb ram) and when i follow the instructions on the software provided, it says to insert the usb modem and let windows recognize it and install it, and go from there.

the problem is, once i put in the usb drive, vista recognizes that there is a new device in, but once it tries to install it, it won't recognize any drivers on the disc thats inserted, and doesn't find anything on the rest of the computer.

the modem has been successfully installed on two XP machines, and one mac, so i know that its possible to do, but its not letting me do it on my laptop...

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

I would say check the mfg website and see if you cant find some updated drivers for it or even check google and see if anyone has "hacked" the XP drivers into working with Vista. I know that Vista's been having lots of issues with past and current third party products and so it could just be that your modem is incompatible with Vista or you just need to look a bit more for newer drivers.

A:Connect a Wireless Modem to ADSL modem for Wifi

The "nokia siemens SL2_141" is a modem/wireless router combo; I assume that "A Wireless Modem of MTS" is also a modem/wireless router combo.

If my assumption is correct you can use the Nokia as an ethernet switch and wireless access point ...

JohnWill's procedure (Aug. 30, 2008) for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If ther... Read more

Basically, I want to use software like UltraVNC to be able to control a remote computer with my host computer. Neither computer will have access to the internet and are connected via two external modems. Can anyone give me the step by step procedure for this and how it is done?

Thanks,

I don't know the model or the type. The stuff I put in when installing it in the control panel(it was already physically installed in the computer, but wasn't dialing) is a bunch of guesses.

This is all the info I have about a modem that refuses to work right:

"Port: COM1" - I set it up that way when intalling through the control panel and I have no idea if that's how it should be set up.
"Interrupt: 4
Address: 3F8
UART: NS 16550AN
Standard 56000 bps V90 Modem" - Again, I set the bold part up when installing via the control panel and have no idea if that's set up right.

"Identifier: USRK2_Gen"

I googled the identifier and found that it was a USRobotics modem, but that's all I know about it.

So I am updating my churches network and came to a setup I have never seen before. No one at my church knows anything about the setup except when they built the addition (about 5 years ago) they ran "a bunch of Cat5". They ran 3-8 jacks in every room. I have a closet full of about 50 cat5 cables of which only 16 actually have RJ45s on them and only 5 of which actually go to a computer. That stuff I was able to figure out. What perplexes me is the hardware setup.... I have seen modem to router to switch.

This install has a Comcast Modem with a built in 4 port router. 2 lines go to separate magic jack pro jacks. One is a straight cable to a wireless linksys router. The last is a straight cable to a 16 port switch. There is then a crossover cable from the wireless router to the switch as well. So on the switch port 15 goes direct to the modem and port 16 is a crossover to the router and back to the same modem..... I can figure out for the life of me why there is a loop going on here.

In either case the setup worked. So the duplicate line did not have an issue. I am so lost.

A:Modem to Router to Switch back to Modem, what....?

I would disconnect the cable going from the switch back to the modem/router combo. You're right. This loop is not proper. Loops should never exist on a switched network. I'm curious as to whether traffic is being forwarded around the network properly or if the switch being used has spanning tree support and might have shut down one of the ports wired up to the upstream network device.

Hi All...

I just got a new PC on Monday - here are the specs off the top of my head (I am at work, PC is at home) - HP Pavillion 764, 2.6 Ghz., 512 MB DDR Ram, Lucent Modem, 120 GB hard drive, 128 MB nVidia GeForce MX 440 video card, Windows XP Home.

I connect via MSN 8 dial up. No cable/dsl in my area at all.

Ok, with my old PC I would get a consistent connection of 32000 bps. Now, with the new PC I am connecting at 21.6 or 24000 bps - which makes for a huge performance hit since I am an online gamer.

I was ok with the 32k connection - a lot of latency - but this is worse with the 21 & 24k connection.

I am still using the same phone lines, dialing the same #'s and using the same version software for internet connection.
The only difference is the PC, OS & Modem really.

Why am I connecting slower now and how can I fix this?
Do you think I should swap modems?

Thanks

Hi Everyone,

I can't seem to access my Westell 2200 from the usual address: 192.168.1.1
I can't remember if I may have changed any settings to have this happen. I know my DLink 634m has no addresses with 192.168.1.1 configured with it.

I've even tried connecting the modem directly to a computer to access it and no luck. I've already done the "hold reset for 10 seconds". Is there another way to do a hard reset so everying on the modem is factory default? Is there another way around this? I can't access my modem and I can't get Internet either.

Thanks in advance

I just bought a new 56k modem because from my desktop I was only able to connect at 28.8k. With both of my laptops I'm able to connect from the same wall jack and the same ISP at speeds between 48k and 50k. But from the desktop I'm stuck at 28.8k, every time I connect.

Hi - I have a wireless cable modem from Time Warner in my bedroom and the signal was really weak in the living room, so I ran an ethernet network cable through the aprtment and hooked it up to the line in on a TP-LINK TL-WR841N modem. Could someone suggest how I set up the tp link to use the other wireless modem's network? I'm kind of new to this but can work my way through. Will it have the same network name and ip? Thanks for any help!

Hi all,

I bought a HP Pavilion computer last year that came with a Connexant 56K soft modem. I surf the net on this machine with a standard telephone line ... the speed that I get is therefore predictably slow.

Upgrading to a cable modem / DSL is of course an option, but I'm wondering if a new hard modem will alleviate some of my pain. So my questions are,

1. Will I really see an appreciable difference in speed if I do away with my soft modem ?

2. If yes, how do I go about upgrading ? I could buy a new modem in any store, but then how do I uninstall / remove this Connexant soft modem ?

3. Which are the best modems in the market which provide value for money ? Say priced upto $100 ?

Appreciate your responses.

thanks

A:Upgrade from a soft modem to a hard modem ?

Can't say much about the speed although the hard modem will definitely take some of the load off of your cpu. Everything processed by the software modem is done by cpu, hardware modem will do it's own to my understanding. Once you go to cable or dsl you'll never go back, all I will say about that.

Try this site for some good info on modems http://www.56k.com/

First, I have a computer which is connecting with an external modem. It has worked fine for a year, but now the modem connects then redials over and over again. It is connecting and verifying then says logged on then immediately redials. I have replaced the external modem with the same result. It's on COM3 and I changed that and the modem speed. I'm thinking about reloading windows because I'm out of ideas. What do you think? It's windows 2000 pro.

Now on my Mom's computer. I got mad and deleted here TCP/IP Dial-up in Network Neighborhood because she was going over her 5 hour limit on the internet and yelling at me about it. So I quickly disconnected it because when I deleted the dial-up connection my nephew made a new one and took her over her 5 hours again. Long story, sorry. Needless to say I broke it. She has Windows ME and I haven't been able to add the TCP/IP Dial-up back and get it working? I don't know what else to try. Any ideas?

Hi, I have an old dial up account with some important email addresses which I don't want to lose. Currently I have them configured to download into Outlook via my broadband service provider on an Orange Livebox, connected by usb. So far so good. The only problem is the dial up service provider periodically asks me to connect by logging on to their dial up connection to keep the accounts active. Until now, I've done this using a very old pc. However, my wife would like me to get rid of my antique P75, so I would really appreciate if someone could show me how to set up my Athlon 3000 machine with built in modem to use both connections, though not necessarily at the same time. Thanks

I was just wondering if anyone would happen to know where I can get my hands on a driver for an external US Robotics Sportster 28,000 Fax/Modem (with V.34 and V.32 bis)- FCC ID: CJE-0340. I've combed through their website but can't seem to come up with anything. I'm in the process of waiting for my new modem to come, but have this external modem as a spare that will suffice in the meantime...but no driver.

Is there possibly a generic driver that would work?

Thanks!

compaq 5wv270/windows 98/kds 17" crt monitor

I started out with problems with win 98. Had changed several parts of my compaq computer so my recovery cd would not work. I still have recovery cd but I can not get any information off of it. I Finally purchased a new, full install copy of win 98 and reinstalled windows. Now I need new drivers. I thought I found correct drivers and installed them. When I go to control panel / system / device manager it shows the modem and driver installed. If I go to control panel / modem / diagnostics it shows no modem. Aol will not work.
I know that the modem is good. If I plug the modem into a computer running win xp, it finds and installs driver and everything works fine. I just cannot get modem to work in win 98 ( it did before I reformatted hard drive and reinstalled win 98) (Yes I was stupid and reformatted hard drive without saving old drivers or even finding out name of file or modem.)
What do I do now? I also have lousy driver for monitor. It is new kds monitor but new driver loaded by win 98 only gives 16 colors/640 display.
It is most important to fix modem problem first so I can get back on line.
Thanks,
mike adkins

Hello Dewflowersp, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If you can connect the modem to your computer with a ethernet LAN port instead of by USB, then you usually will not need a driver.

Hope this helps,
