Unable To Access Secure Site. Ie Error

Q: Unable To Access Secure Site. Ie Error

I get the following error message every time i tried to access a secure site:

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.
To attempt fixing network connectivity problems, click Tools, and then click "Diagnose Connection Problems..."

Other options to try:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting).
Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

Cannot find server or DNS Error

I have tried all the options listed but nothing happens. I do not have the PCT 1.0 listed on my system. Using XP and AOL as ISP over Speedtouch router.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone and Merry Christmas!!
I am having an issue with windows 7 Ultimate apparently blocking me from accessing my work related website login page.
I must use IE to view the website. So far, only Combofix remedies the issue but only for a couple of days and a couple of logins, then it's right back to the same old thing. I have 2 log files that I can submit for review. Also an important side note. No matter what browser I try to use, the computer does the same thing. The page is set up to use IE however. I am using Microsoft Security Essentials. The website is as follows....
hxxps://evalue.internationaldelivers.com/service
Once this page loads, I would normally login. My problem is that the computer IE status bar drags and drags and finally a unable to load the page comes up. I can run combofix and everything is great for only a couple of days.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. This morning I turned on my computer and curiously couldn't access some websites. I soon realized they were all https connections. For instance I can access http://amazon.com/, but I cannot access https://amazon.com/. The issue persists regardless of the browser I use. My e-mail client also cannot connect to certain accounts. The same goes for Windows Update.

I've searched this entire subforum for similar problems and haven't found anything that fixes the problem. I've flushed my DNS cache, reset windows sockets, synced time and date, checked whether any weird processes were running, and disabled my firewall (I don't use Windows Firewall or MSE).

I recently started a website, but immediately got "this page cannot be displayed" message while trying to access my control panel. The host advised me to remove ZoneAlarm which I did but with no luck. I can access my control panel from other computers but not mine. I have run spybot and reviewed my IE 6 many times. My host said it may be a registry problem as I have Netscape on my computer and it can't access the site either.
Any thoughts?

Hi All,

I have suddenly lost access to any of my secure sites. For example I can get on to the HMRC site but when I want to log in to pay online VAT I'm blocked. Same for bank accounts etc.

IE diagnostics says ' Windows cannot connect to internet using HTTP, HTTPS or FTP. This probably caused by firewall settings on this computer. Check if firewall settings for this HTTP port (443) and FTP port (21).

Can anyone xplain how a do this in a simple way for a newbie.

I have tried restoring system to earlier times with negative results. Sony did not help. I can't even load Norton, buy things, see my bank statements, etc. Here may be a clue. I am sometimes told my system won't accept ActiveX code. I am also told I need to add a drive. I press continue and system runs OK (except the the security problem).

Now this is a situation that I haven't quite encountered before, so I thank you all in advance for your help and advice! Here's the deal....

1. When my friend attempts to access any secure site (for banking, shopping, etc.) in IE, it keeps saying "unable to display page" or something to that effect. Basically, it is not allowing him to login to any secure areas. He is, however, able to browse other web sites in IE without a problem.

2. When he tries launching Mozilla Firefox, it will not allow him to browse any sites at all.

Other computers on his home network are fine and have no problems accessing any sites regardless of the browser used.

Thanks in advance for reading this posting and offering your suggestions.

Hi,
I can log into my secure site then when trying to go beyond that, it seems to take along time ("timeout"?) to get to the next secure page. When it finally does I click to access my personal files and instantly I get the error message. I have tried to figure out when this started but it has been a while since trying to access this site. I have read that update 831167 for ie6 corrects this. I have ie7 and cannot put that update in as I get warnings that I don't have ie6 sp1 installed. Also, I have reset the settings in security and enabled all cookies.
Also, I have tried the microsoft "fix it" for the registry and needed to use my XP CD. Still not working. This is bugging me as I was able to use this site 6 months ago.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I have a number of financial sites (banks, credit cards etc) bookmarked where I obviously have to log in.
Occasionally these display "Page cannot be displayed"; it happens to all of them at the same time as I can access any other internet site. I presume the problem is to do with security settings on my PC ( I have NIS 2004).
The problem is solved by doing a System Restore but clearly something is causing this error.
It occurs intermittently and I have not changed any settings before it happens.

Hello to everyone in the community. This is my first post and I hope I'm doing it right - if not, please tell me and I'll make whatever changes are needed.

I'd be grateful for any help that anyone can give me on being unable to access secure [https] web sites. I'm running IE6.0 on XP home. Everything was fine up until a few weeks ago when for some unknown reason I suddenly couldn't access https pages. I didn't make any changes to my IE settings at all - it just happened.

I've tried resetting the IE defaults, I've tried checking and unchecking the SSL2.0 and SSL3.0 boxes in IE settings, I've made sure that the proxy server box is not checked, I've checked the cipher strength [its 128] and I regularly clear cookies etc. but nothing helps. I just can't access https pages.

What happens is that I get an error message on the status bar which says done with errors and then, if I click it, I get an an error message saying permission is denied. Also, the Internet symbol [the green and blue globe] that should be in the right hand pane of the status bar is replaced by the My Computer symbol. At first this was intermittent but now it is happening all the time I'm logged on.

Its driving me crazy! I can't access most of my email carriers, do any home banking etc. Any help or suggestions would be welcome.

Welcome to the site Colin. While there could be a number of reasons why you can not access https sites, the information that you provided may have narrowed a few of them down.Have you recently installed any applications from the internet? It is possible that some may contain spyware, or malware that is putting a restriction on access, even if you have changed it. You may want to run Hi Jack This, and post a log, just in case. Can you access those sites with an alternate browser, such as Opera or Firefox? If you do not have either one of those, here is a link to Opera.Have you recently upgraded to SP2? Although there are minor bugs from some people, it is possible that you could be included among those.I will be checking back later. Right now, I need to go help out at a garage sale. Whenever I try to access a secure website/page,I get a "Page cannot be displayed" error message. Also, on several occasions when I have clicked on a button to see a demonstration of a software program--all I got was a blank page. I have contacted my ISP's tech support people numerous times, they have not been able to help me solve the problem. This has been going on for months, I am so tired and frustrated. This is the first time that I have encountered these problems in the 5 plus years that I have been using the Web. Can anyone tell me what is wrong, and how to fix it?

A:Unable to access secure sites/pages

Download CWShredder and run it. Click on 'I Agree' button if you agree with it. Click on 'Fix' (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you) and OK. If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here. Let it finish the scan and then hit Next and Exit.

Download and install Spybot S&D. Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix and install it over the current Spybot installation.

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go here to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

I normally use Firefox but the following also happen with IE. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~* First problem:Webpages open unexpectedly in tabs - apparently random sites, usually advertising but a few have been picked up by AVG as malicious and prevented from loading. I try to close the tab as soon as I notice activity but am not always fast enough!Sometimes clicking the top link on a Google search doesn't take me to the expected page and I am redirected to another search engine such as 'Ask Jeeves' with its own list of search results.May be relevent... several weeks ago I updated 'Format Factory', freeware media converter and failed to notice that it would also install a 'Quickstores toolbar'. Not only that but it changed my browser home page from Google to Ask Jeeves. I *thought* I had removed this via 'Windows Add/Remove Programs'; perhaps it is still lurking? The redirect problem had begun before June 30 but on that date I experienced a Malware attack and 'Rogue.AntivirusSuite' and 'Trojan.Fraudpack' were (apparently) removed using Malwarebytes. I had to start XP in Safe Mode to run Malwarebytes and before closing down (still in Safe Mode) I noticed a desktop shortcut to eBay's webpage which I thought had been deleted some weeks previously. Welcome to TSF.

Did you install any new program that may have changed your HOSTS file? If you are unsure, I will need to take a look at your HOSTS file and see if anything is wrong with it. The HOSTS file are stored differently depending what Operating System you have. So look for your OS below:

Windows XP = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
Windows 2K = C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
Win 98\ME = C:\WINDOWS

Open up HOSTS (no extensions) in Notepad. Copy and paste that information here.

About a year ago, out of the blue, I started getting Server Not Found errors for a regular, clean site that I use constantly. Other site users I asked are/were able to access it no problem. Long story short, I took out a VPN subscription and was then again able to access the site again, but ONLY via VPN. So now my subscription has expired, and I don't particularly want to renew it for that one single site. FWIW I can access every other similar site without any trouble.

Can anyone suggest why this might be happening, and what I could try to access the site WITHOUT having to use VPN?

Thanks

A:Unable to access one site without using VPN

Who is your ISP?

Have you tried another DNS provider?

Perhaps Google's DNS server 8.8.8.8.

Can you ping the website?

Can you tell us what the website is?

Hi
I have a strange problem with internet access.
Sysytem is Dell P4 +XP Home +SP2 +Norton Internet Security
2009 +IE6
Computer appears to be working OK. Boots up normally and all
applications work.
The problem is with accessing the internet site for the UK
National Lottery.
Site address is www.national-lottery.co.uk
When I click on the link a new window opens as per usual but
after about 1 second everything stops and the word 'done'
appears in the lower left of the status bar.
The window where the site details should appear is
completely blank.
This happens with the bookmarked address and when I search
with Google and then follow the link.
So far this only occurs with this site, everything else
works fine.
Can someone advise what is happening and how to fix it.

I was trying to free up some disk space by deleting the temp internet folders through explorer - rather than Internet tools - which seemed to go well, until I then tried to access the internet via IE.
I now get the dsnerror page - telling me it cannot find the server.

I can access my e-mail OK and can also play on-line Poker via the desktop shortcut.

I've obviously deleted something I shouldn't have but do not know what. Any idea's? Using XP home.

I upgraded my computer 12 months ago but kept my old hard drive with Windows 98SE in view of the amount of data stored on it. My new hard drive has Windows XP and I always use XP to access the internet.
However I am unable to access the Hotmail site using XP and always get the message "The Microsoft Passport Network is unavailable from this site for one of the following reasons
The site may be experiencing a problem
The site may not be a member of the Passport Network

If I then close XP and open 98SE and use the same site I immediately get access to my Hotmail account. It makes no difference if I use msn.co.uk or login.passport.net the answer is always the same with XP. I use the same browser with both XP and 98 and the same firewall.
As I am shortly going to change my ISP and I will not be able to install the new software on 98 I am concerned that I will not be able to access Hotmail unless I find out now what is causing this problem. Roger

I have the most bizarre problem. I have been a fan of the NASA Home site for quite sometime, even had it on my favs list. For reasons I do not understand, I am no longer able to access the site despite the fact that friends here in the same city as me are able to....so I know the site is up and running. I have a Windows ME operating system and IE 6.0 browser. I am able to access all other sites on the Net with no problem whatsoever.
I had my ISP tech support person on the phone for 1/2 hour and we went through the LAN settings and browser preferences and even shut down my firewall with no success.
Any and all advice would be most welcome!

Hi I have a few problems with my windows XP.

Recently I discovered my computer had an av.exe virus, which I used Malwarebytes antimalware to detect and remove.
But after that, I could not update Malwarebytes antimalware or access thier site.
On a guess, I took a look at my internet protocol, noticed the preset DNS, and promtly reset them to automatic.
I can now access their site and I managed to update malwarebytes, but I have doubts it should be this easy.
As for my windows boot cd, I lost it a long time ago and have not been able to find it.

Here is the DDS scan results and my hopes that you guys can help me out.

I have been trying all day to access www.symantec.com to download the latest virus definitions but am unable to bring up the site. I use Nortons antivrus 2002 and have manually downloaded the definitions on a daily basis when there are updates to collect. I have also tried to enter symantec today via the live update facility but it just seems to hang. I have attached a pic of what keeps showing after I enter the www.symantec.com as an address on IE6 browser. When clicking on any link, it gives nothing.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem with symantec or is it just pertaining to my system?
If it is a problem with my system, how can I rectify the problem?

Thank you in advance

Hi All,

I am facing a strange situation in one my windows 7 PC. The PC is under corporate network as well as corporate control. So all the access are restricted.

I am trying to access this below internet site, in various ways; such as browser and command prompt(application).

URL : http://repo.maven.apache.org/maven2/...plugin-2.5.pom

This is my maven repository site(used in application development). If I hit this in browser, I am getting response from this site. But the URL while accessing in command prompt(application) i am getting connection refused.

When i analyses the situation; I found only this particular site, HTTP port(i.e. 80) was disabled. If telnet for the same site. I am getting "Connection refused" error. like telnet repo.maven.apache.org 80

If i try with other site with port 80, say for an example; telnet google.com 80. It works. i am getting positive response.

In home network(open internet), everything fine. No issues.

So why this particular site alone HTTP port was blocked only command prompt NOT in entire system? Is that possible to block alone in command prompt ? what would be the root cause?
Regards,
Jerald.

A:Unable to access internet site in command prompt.

You really need to contact the corporate IT staff about this. Only they will have the knowledge of the network necessary to understand the situation.
