I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I would say the components are (in order): thermal compound - heatsink and then the fan

You would need thermal compound too. And an appropriate cleaning solution to remove previous compound.

I wouldn't know how handy you are, do you end up with spare screws when you try fixing stuff?

Any fan is operated like that, some differences apply depending on fan specs and controlling hardware.

My system fan died and before I order one wanted to see how to remove the old fan. HP sent me a manual,http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03318732 I am at the stage removing the keyboard and on page 56 step 4 (Chpater 4)  where it is asking me to release the two keyboard tabs. I cannot find these tabs (and the document does not say how to release the tab). The diagram is not very clear. I did a general search and there doesnt seem to be a video for this model. I have removed all the components up to the keyboard and also the single screw that is supposed to hold the keyboard. It is the tabs I do not know how to remove.Parts will sell me the fan but do not want to buy until I can remove the old one. Thanks

A:Pavilion DM4 3050 us fan replacement, Keyboard will not come...

The tabs are nothing more than little bumps on the edge of the keyboard frame. You need to get a flat non-marring tool that is thin enough to wedge in between the edge of the keyboard and the lip of the frame and sort of push the keyboard back and out so the back edge of it (as you are sitting and typing) comes free from the chassis of the laptop. Hard to put into words. Just don't be afraid to use a little elbow grease. The keyboard should have a little play within the frame once you get the retaining screw out.

Is there any way to clean the keyboard or get a keyboard replacement? I just got off the chat service with HP and they were charging me $299.99 to fix it which is a ludicrous deal. I am considering self-repair at this point. Thanks.

I'm working on a hp pavilion zv5000 with malware problems. Does anyone have any experience with the keyboard on one of these? I practically have to pound on the keys to get them to work. And forget trying to get a capital letter. Are they all like that (which I would find hard to believe -- nobody would buy one) or does this one just have a problem?

A:Solved: Pavilion notebook keyboard

If typing normally on the keyboard doesn't work, then there's likely a hardware problem. To fix the malware, connect an external keyboard. If the owners of the system want to fix the keyboard problem, it would probably need to be replaced (assuming an external keyboard works fine).

Here is the Service Manual: Manual Pages 5-23 to 5-29. Remove the battery and there are screws in there that allow removal of the button strip plastic piece above the keyboard after you flip it back over. Once that is off it is pretty self-explanatory and the pictures show the process.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi there, I recently installed an external Dell keyboard to use with my HP Pavilion g6 notebook (Windows 8.1, 64-bit). I also installed an external Microsoft mouse. I've been having problems where the keyboard suddenly stops working completely, or when I type characters some appear with accents or umlauts on them etc. It's 50/50 whether I can rectify this with a bit of backspacing, closing my internet browser etc. Most of the time the only option is to shut the laptop down, unplug the USB keyboard, re-add, re-start, and hope that it works.  The keyboard language settings are QUERTY English (UK), though this could just be referring to the laptop's in-build keyboard. I've also checked that the keyboard is installed and the driver is up to date in Device Manager. Perhaps I shouldn't be using a Dell keyboard - is that important? Or should it not matter? I've also noticed that the problems get worse when I've used my laptop normally (i.e. unplugged the external mouse/keyboard and just use the in-build keyboard and touchpad). In addition, things also start to go awry when I use Microsoft Word and then go onto my Internet browser etc.Really scratching my head for a solution so any help here is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I purchased a new Pavilion Notebook on 12/03/16 , includimg Windows 10, and installed Microsoft Office, since when I have been concerned with the performance of the key board. The keys sporadiclly require extra pressure and do not always transmit to the screen - I am not a "touch typist", but this is hardly "touch typing" and I do not have this problem with other machines. The extra pressure causes more noise than I would expect. This problem extends to the touch pad itself which sometimes requires the repeated or extra pressure. In short, there appears to be a problem with the keyboard/pad and its connecting with the screen. Is this a warranty issue, or is it a matter for  Microsoft (OS or Office)? Or is it a characteristic of the Pavilion model. Am I not using it properly?  I would be grateful for advice on this.  John 155,

Hi, Turn off the notebook by holding down the Shift key as you click on Shut down, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Has this made any difference? Regards, DP-K

What system update, windows update, a driver update? This is pretty vague.Could the update be coincidence and the keys are broken? If you boot to safe mode with command prompt try them then.Maybe the keys themselves are damages in which case you need a new or new old stock keyboard. That's what I would do, test the keys in a command prompt window and if they don't work there get a new keyboard.Do you have access to a usb keyboard to see if it's the keys or some weird OS thing?

My laptop got wet (water).. At first only one key was not working.
It got worse when i tryed to fix it I put it under a fan and it made most keys not respond
some keys were working but i decided to change the keyboard.
( i didnt power it off and just used a usb keyboard)

I have replaced the keyboard from ebay
My question is about the back lit strip.
My old keyboard; had a ribben cable coming out to LED light node and additional black plastic wraping on the backside of keyboard.
I broke the ribben from the old keyboard ( no not the regular ribben cable )
I reconnected the new keyboard which; did not have led lights or black plastic

is it a loop to the keyboard ribben ( which i have connected)

I have talked to someone who believes this is for led(s) and all that is uncommon on non-backlit keyboards and should not be necessary for the keyboard to work and we believe its only lighting.
keyboard to turn on but I am missing a ribben connection to this extra strip of LED lights and what else ?

Should i order a plastic led light strip and stick it to my new keyboard to match the original

As you know my laptop (#2) is getting outdated as time flies.
I need to upgrade it too a newer laptop soon, but it's not soon as i know intel core 2 duo have been hangin around for 1/2 a year. I know that i MUST wait until the successor of intel centrino core 2 duo come by the end of this year.
Deadline for myself to use this old laptop is up to end 2007.

What i've found is this : Intel mobile processor Gilo - 65 nm, multi-core (Q4 2007)*

Since windows vista is booming out and i think i'll be using both vista and xp on a same "future" notebook, i decided to take a look at current product, especially the mobile graphic card.

AFAIK, ATIX2X00 series and nVidia 8X00 series are the only series which is "windows vista certified" or "DirectX 10" compatible. But the problem is that both of the mobile gpu are going to be released about Q2 or Q3 2007*.
I'm only interested in 8600 and x2600 or higher as x2300 is a low-end card.

I've been offered a new laptop but i refused to upgrade because of these reasons.

My question is :
Are the abovelisted roadmap are true?
I mean is the intel gilo is released in Q4 and ATI R600 is released before Q4?

It's because i'm confused whether to buy a new laptop this June or this November... I only have this 2 months chance to buy a laptop cause of private reason.

I hope anyone will give me some description. I really2 need confirmation when will be intel gilo and ati r600 come out, be... Read more

Sorry about your TravelMate.. Got my ThinkPad in Nov 2004 and it's still going stong

No roadmaps are true. That's why they are called roadmaps. Also, paper specs are nothing but glorified wishful thinking by the manufacturer. Don't trust anything that isn't out there for real. There can be delays, manufacturing issues, limited supply to select partners, astronomical pricetags, unexpected performance issues, driver problems..

Whether to buy something now or wait for a while.. Do you need a new laptop now or only after a while? If you waited three years, you could get something amazingly fast

Hi. My daughters HP 255 G2 notebook has already had the hard drive replaced once, just over a year ago. The 1st hard drive lasted about 1.5 years and this one is now starting to return erros with S.M.A.R.T. She currently has installed HGST HGS545050A7E680. The original hard drive was replaced through HP since it was still under warrenty at the time. Now that it's out of warrenty, and the drive is beginning to return errors, I need to look for a good replacement. I would really rather NOT replace it with the same one, as it seems to fail rather quickly. But I'm not sure what to replace it with. My daughter mentioned that she'd like to move up from 500 GB to 1 TB, but other than that I'm at a loss. I'm used to desktops, not notebooks. Can someone please point me in the right direction? What do we need, and what would be a solid drive that you would recommend? How fast? Etc? Also, yes, SSD's are nice, but a bit pricey for a 16 yo who seems to blow through drives rather fast.Of course, if an SSD is really what would be best, I'll bite the bullet and get an SSD, but would rather go with a SATA. Thank you in advance for all your assistance and advice.Ais

Actually an SSD may be the solution. I have seen a lot of younger users can be hard on a hard drive by picking it up and putting it down while running, less than perfect on/off routine etc. An SSD is much less prone to issues with that kind of user because it has no moving parts. However, a 1 TB SSD is crazy expensive.  This is actually a deal at $240: https://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-OCZ-Trion-Internal-TRN150-25SA3-960G/dp/B01B4NUKDS/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_4?i... If you want to go mechanical drive I have been partial to Seagate, but having trouble keeping track of who really owns these hard drive makers now: This is an excellent, thrifty but fast hard drive 1 TB: https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-BarraCuda-2-5-Inch-Internal-ST1000LM048/dp/B01LYNQXCP/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_... See p. 81 of the Manual here: Manual The access panel on the bottom does not lead to the hard drive; more extensive disassembly is needed. A:need a replacement for my notebook battery

Lots of "compatible" replacement batteries on eBay India: http://www.ebay.in/itm/Hako-Laptop-battery-for-HP-Pavilion-Sleekbook-14-1000-14-2099-695192-001-/322155524629?hash=item4b01f73215:g:56IAAOSw3YNXZEIH I could not find an original genuine battery on any of the India sites I know of. The compatible batteries are very attractively priced and generally reliable. I still try to buy genuine if I can for newer model laptops but have purchased compatible batteries quite frequently for older laptops where cost is an issue and have generally had a good experience.

Hello,I want to buy a replacement battery for my notebook, as the one I have right now doesn't hold much charge anymore. The model of the notebook is an HP Pavilion dv7-6b80ec. On the pages of your authorized HP part sellers i found these two batteries, which should be compatible, however I don't know which one to choose. You do not sell the battery in your official store. If these batteries are not compatible, can you please show me one that is? I live in the Czech Republic, so the store should ship here. These are the links to the batteries I found on your Authorized partner's page: http://cz.eetgroup.com/i/593562-001-HP-Inc.-Battery-6-Cell-2.8Ahhttp://cz.eetgroup.com/i/MBI2134-MicroBattery-48wh-HP-Laptop-Battery I also took some photos of the original battery, if that could help. They are stored on this Imgur album:http://imgur.com/a/qVHko

i have a ibm thinkpad 600E. my cd rom has suddenly stopped working. everytime i put a cd rom into the drive, a message comes back that the drive is not ready. some people have mentioned that perhaps the lens that reads whether a cd rom has been installed has worn out and i may need to replace the whole cd rom. does anyone have any suggestions on how i may be able to get my existing cd rom repaired or replaced?

A:finding a replacement notebook cd rom

My first thought is that the 600E came with a 3-year warrenty. You may be able to get this replaced under warrenty and save yourself some expence. Try calling the following number, it will put you in contact with IBM EasyServ: 800-772-2227. You will need your serial and model number (they are located under the machine on a small decal with a barcode on it). If it is still under warrenty, they will arrange to have the unit sent in for repair. They usually are very fast and you should have the computer back in three days or less.

If it is not, you should be able to buy a new one directly from IBM, the part number is 05k9068. You may also buy one here http://www.acsparts.com/thinkpads/thinkpad_data/cdroms.html, but the part number will be 05k9067. You could also shop around in the internet, these should be available from several sources.
Sorry, that part number was for the DVD drive, the par number for the CDROM is: 05k8994
