Preferred Solution: Protection Center,Virus Dectected, Security Center POP-UPS!!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hey i use vipre antivirus+antispyware as my antivirus But seems that security centre is not detecting the antivirus.Even though it shows the antivirus and firewalls are ON,it shows that norton internet security is On and up to date.So what does it mean??

A:Antivirus not dectected in windows security center

Windows Security Center uses a two-tiered approach for detection status. One tier is manual, and the other tier is automatic through Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). In manual detection mode, Windows Security Center searches for registry keys and files that are provided to Microsoft by independent software manufacturers. These registry keys and files let Windows Security Center detect the status of independent software. In WMI mode, software manufacturers determine their own product status and report that status back to Windows Security Center through a WMI provider.Windows Security Center will try to tell you about antivirus or firewall programs installed on your computer. However, if a manufacturer decides not to participate, the Security Center will not be able to detect the manufacturer's programs.FAQs Windows Security Center <- this link no longer works but the above info was previously posted there. When launching the Security Center there is a note that advises Windows does not detect all anti-virus programs. It is the responsibility of the anti-virus or firewall vendor to design their software so that it will be recognized by the Windows Security Center. The vendor also must submit the information to Microsoft so the Windows operating system catalog can be updated with the software signature addition. However, you are also indicating that you use Norton Internet SecurityUsing more than one anti-virus program is not advisable. The primary concern with doing ... Read more

A couple of weeks ago a ballon popped above a red shield on bottom right hand corner of my screen and said that my virus protection was turned off. My Microsoft Security Essentials which is right next to the shield says PC status: Protected

I've removed and installed MSE a couple of times and eventually the red shield will come back.

I did a reinstall of my operating system which I usually do once a year anyway but after a few days the shield came up saying my virus protection is turned off.

I've had the computer since 2002 and never had this problem.

Windows XP Service Pack 3

I did a search on this sight but couldn't find anything?

I have Vista, I have AVG installed and recently the windows security center is saying that AVG is turned off when I know it's on. I ran AVG and it picked up 2 Trojans... I moved those to Vault. I'm currently scanning again and it picked up those same Trojans again along with some cookies. My question is why is this doing this with the Windows Security Center? and could it be because of those 2 Trojans that were detected?

Note: The scan just finished and the infections were moved to the vault... what exactly does this mean?

For some reson, Windows Security Center says that Virus Protection is not found even though I have my antivirus on. My AV is Microsoft Security Essentials.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling MSE and Windows Security Center still keeps saying that I don't have an AV on even though I do. I just got done doing full scans with MSE and with Super AntiSpyware and the both came up clean. I don't know what's going on.

Another thing I might mention is that when I tried to do a system restore, I couldn't do it because apparently it had been turned off, even though I swore I had it set to on before.

Could anyone help? Thank you!

Everytime I start up my desktop, a fake windows security center message comes up trying to get me to install a fake protection system software. When this windows security center message comes up, it also adds three shortcuts to my desktop to porn sites. This virus is hindering me from using various software such as Malwarebytes, Spybot, and it wont let me install Hijack this. Also, this virus is making Internet Explorer practically unusable (using Safari right now). Please help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

One of the sample messages from Security Center Alter asks if I want to block a suspicious software called Trojan.Win32.Agent.dcc. This "Alert" has popped up many time, but warning me about different trojans.
Also, in the lower-right tray, messages are continuously coming up saying stuff like keyloggers, exploits, and etc have infected your computer.

Hi Moderator,
This is observed that when Virus Protection is disabled, Action center displays message that Virus Protection is OFF and "Turn On" button is enabled. After clicking it below dialog is displayed.

Do you want to run this app?
You should only run apps that come from publishers you trust.

My question is why this dialog has been displayed? Before that Notifier application is double signed with Verisign CA. When I click on "Yes, I Trust the publisher ..." dialog disappears and Protection is enabled. To "Don't show me..."
I have checked checkbox so that it should not appear again but alas, next time when I disable Protection and again try to enable it from action center, same pop-up is displayed. So what is causing this pop-up message? This behavior is observed on Windows Vista
and versions post Windows Vista.

Hello...

For the past week, I have been encountering the fake anti-virus 'Protection Systems,' sometimes calling itself Windows Security Center. I am constantly getting nag screens, pop ups and bubbles saying my system is infected. My google searches are redirected at times. Also, sometimes my system will shut down by way of a countdown, but I've stopped it recently running shutdown -a.

I have tried with Malwarebytes and it seemed to get rid of it at first, but it just keeps coming back. Then I couldn't even update Malwarebytes anymore, and now, after trying to uninstall it, it won't reinstall even after renaming the file. I have also scanned with Avira Antivir, and all it did was temporarily kill the processes. I have tried all of this in safe mode as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Total Security Protection Center keeps popping up again and again. I've tried to remove it and it keeps coming back; can't be removed with normal "Change/Remove" on the control panel. I found bleepingcomputer on a Google search and followed all the instructions that led to downloading something to shut it off and then downloading Malwarebytes' program that seemed to remove some stuff, but not this problem. Still there. The last item said that if still a problem to go through these steps to post the problem. Hoping this will help and appreciate your time. Will now follow the steps to post the txt files that were created and hope I get those on correctly.

Hi,
I just installed Microsoft Security Essentials on a laptop with Vista Premium 32 bit. It does not show in the left pane of Windows Security Center. Instead, Windows Defender is shown as off, which is correct.
I ran;
C:\> winmgmt /verifyrepository
It reported VMI Repository as consistant.
How do I get Security Essentials in Security Center's left pane as the default spyware protection program?
Thanks

Edit: The Windows Security System is a fake, not this post! I am writing this from my laptop as my desktop has a pretty nasty infection. Internet searches have turned up some similar infections that this seems to be a variation of. When I first noticed the infection a few days ago I started to do a System Restore but my computer did not have any restore points. I wonder if the virus was able to delete or hide these files since I have always kept it active and have used it before with success.Symptoms:Sometimes start up will hang on a black screen in place of the XP sign on but the mouse pointer will be active.ZoneAlarm catches multiple instances of svchost.exe after startup and an instance of Apache.exe that I do not remember. If I deny access some of the following systems will not manifest themselves. The following fake Windows Security Center box will pop up. I first thought it was real until I noticed that the setting were different from the Control Panel. After a lag, a security alert pops up warning me of an infection. At the same time, another box appears asking me to download a free Protection System piece of software. My computer will then continue to nag me occasionally with the following notification. Notice the fake Windows Security Center shields. After a period of time, ZoneAlarm gives another alert that Installer.exe is requesting internet access. If I allow it, the following box pops up and starts downloading from the internet. My modem shows activity at this p... Read more

2 nights ago I started seeing Windows Police Pro, Protection System and Security Alert System popping up. They also had me locked out task manager, Spybot and MalwareBytes. Since then the Police Pro seems to be gone, but the others are still popping up. Task manager is available now, but the security programs are not. I am also getting shortcuts to porn sites installed on my desktop. That has only happened twice, but thankfully my wife didn't see any of them . I have attached and posted the logs from the recommended scans. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Good morning,
Last night when I went to bed I logged off the laptop but did not shut it down. This morning I had a new virus. Advanced Virus Remover. The entire desktop had been changed. all of the programs, files and scan reports were gone as well as my background picture. all of my personal settings have been changed. When I ran Firefox, it ran like it was the first time. None of my bookmarks are there now, as well as the quick launch buttons I had on the task bar. Windows police pro has now returned in the start menu. Protection system has also installed itself in the start menu. They had shortcut icons on the desktop as well as the 3 porn icons again.

If i find anything else new I will add it to the post.

I recently had to do a factory restore on my system. I reinstalled Norton Internet Security using the existing product key I have. Today my action center says virus protection turned off;

I hit view Antivirus apps and this comes up
I click on Norton Internet Security then click turn on, this is what pops up
I click on yes, I trust this publisher to run this app, However nothing happens. It still says that Norton Internet Security is turned off. I went into Norton Internet Security, it says that my system is secure and even ran a full system scan for good measure.

Is there a reason why action center is saying that antivirus protection is turned off?

A few days ago while on surfthechannel.com, my computer was infected with what seemed like several viruses. I ran Trend Micro's PC Cillin and it found and deleted two trojans, but it doesn't seem to be able to locate this remaining virus. My computer runs very slow and most of the time can't boot up in normal mode. If it does boot up in normal mode it freezes pretty shortly after. I have to run it in safe mode with networking to get it to work at all. Even in safe mode I constantly have the fake security center popping up doing scans - telling me I have several infections, asking me to buy the software it's advertising, random internet explorer windows coming up with several different advertisements, and messages at the bottom right and left sides of my screen from the fake security center icon also pop up constantly saying I have been infected with various things.

I downloaded and ran SmitfraudFix to clean my registry but I don't think it did anything. I also tried to download superantispyware but an error message comes up when I try to install the software - something along the lines of "this software cannot be installed due to administrator settings". PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

I've got this fake Security Center Virus. It keeps telling me my PowerGuard 2009 is inactive and needs to be activated. I used Add Remove Programs to dump the PowerGuard but that hasn't helped. The Security Center doesn't show up on the Add Remove list.

It's also generated lots of popups while I'm online. I can still use the internet but the popups are really annoying.

After reading an old thread from a few years ago, I downloaded smitfraudfix and tried to start up in safe mode but it could not get started in safe mode.

Just ran HJT and here's my log. Please let me know what I should do.

I have a corporate version of Symantec Antivirus that I ran and found 5 Trojan Horse viruses and it deleted them. Good so far. I also ran SUPER anti-spyware and it found over 200 items and deleted them also.

Then my Firewall mysteriously turned OFF and I got a warning about that, so I enabled it. I have also ran CC Cleaner.

Now, the problem with Security Center seems to be corrected, but I have now noticed two other problems that I can not correct, and these both materialized over the last two days also.

1. I can not boot into Safe Mode. I am running on Windows XP. I was going to do this so I could run MalwareBytes in safe mode also to make sure I did not have any remaining Trojans or other problem that could not be found in Windows. When I try to go into Safe Mode, I get the error message ending in 7E. So, regardless of what I try to do, I can not get into Safe Mode.

2. I have a lingering problem of my search engine, (usually I use Google) that redirects. If I search something, and then select one of the items, it redirects to another completely different website. I have found NO SOLUTIONS to this problem.

I can not help but bel... Read more

My wife was using the laptop the other night and the security center came up. I told her to shut down the computer and she did. We restarted it and we get a black screen instead of windows. I found topic 339803 on this website and did as it said. I have attached the report that it came up with.

Any help would be great on getting this fixed so we could use the laptop again.

Thanks

Hi,

I'm not sure what the virus is called thats on my computer. Each time the computer starts up it lists a different virus. What's happening is periodically a security center alert keeps popping up listing a virus. After the security center pop ups, a message on the start menu states that the computer is infected with numerous viruses. Then a Download Free Scanner window will pop up.

I'm attaching the gmer and dds logs. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Everyone. xp pro spk3

Received this fake XP security center virus. I new it was fake, so I tried to
get out of it. It popped up all the time, then I was able to download windows
security essentials. Prior to this I had tried to update AVG, SPYBOT and Malwarebytes.
None of these worked. The Security Essential found it, and removed it, but not the
av.exe file that was still lurking. So, the problem popped up again, and this time
it would not allow me to access programs. The window message kept telling me
that there was no access path, or I did not have access. I checked to see if I was
not in my admin user, and I wasn't - but I am locked out of that too.
I was able to get into safe mode. Oh - I tried to download HJT and it too would not
allow me to do it unless I was in safe mode = I returned later, it then it would
not allow me to run it straight out because it kept asking me (other programs too)
what program I wanted to run it with. I was able to circumvent that, and get it done.

I also noted (and deleted) in my network places two places I had not added to
a unrecognizable university.

Help me please. For everything I do to gain, something else just finds a way to block
my attempts.

Thank you very much. Cyber

Hello,

I picked up the virus/malware that puts a Security Center icon in the tray. I cannot run any malware tools nor am I able to access the internet.

I have the recovery console option when I first boot up my computer. Will using this be able to help me restore my computer or will I have to go through the steps I see others are taking to clean the malware from my PC?

If using the recovery console will work, how do I get into the recovery area to fix the issue?

Thanks for the help.

Hi,

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool. When done, DDS will open two (2) logs: DDS.txt
Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

---

Download GMER here by clicking download exe -button and then saving it your desktop:Double-click .exe that you downloaded
Click rootkit-tab, uncheck files option and then click scan.
Don't check
Show All
box while scanning in progress!
When scanning is ready, click Copy.
This copies log to clipboard
Post log (if the log is long, archive it into a zip file and attach instead of posting) in your reply.

I keep having incessant various "Windows Security Center Alert" pop-ups. First, one keeps saying that I have no Anti-Virus program installed (I have McAfee), another keeps offering a free download of "Windows Protection System" or the installer for it. Also another pop-up saying it is a Security Center Alertkeeps saying that I am infected with Win32.Kbot.al, Trojan.win32.Agent.dcc, or Virus.win32.Hala.a and wants me to "enable protection". On the bottom right icon program bar I keep getting "Danger" alerts from the Windows security shield icon, and also get a pop-up saying the Google installer has met difficulty and wants me to send an error report or not. All these pop-ups keep occuring every minute or so, whether I am on-line or not. I have run 2 virus scans, and an Ad-Aware scan, and neither has helped, and my System Restore refuses to work. What can I do to stop this?

My OS is XP Professional.

Let me start by explaining symptoms. Computer is a Dell Inspiron 6400 with Vista Basic.
The computer went stupid on my yesterday afternoon. A bunch of processes stopped responding at the same time and the computer said it had to restart. It restarted by it self and then would not start.

I can get the computer to start in Safe Mode w/ networking. Actually it doesn't even start right with that, i have to go to the task manager and manually start explorer.exe. Explains the post i guess. I cannot get malwarebytes or any anti virus software to run. I did run adaware. it got some stuff but it did not help at all. I took the thing to Best Buy's Geek Squad, they wanted $200 bucks. NO WAY... so this is my last ditch effort to fix before i get a new computer. I purchaced a cheap external hard drive and have copied all critical info off the computer.

When i try to run any anti malware software it says i don't have permissions. I tried to rename malwarebytes and said i didn't have permissions either. I've tried the right click and run as admin also w/ same results. I'm going to work my way through the prep guide and post below:
DDS.SCR just puts up a black window for a minute then closes. No results to post

RootRepel Log also started and got closed half way through. Now it says i don't have permissions.

I thank you all in advance for any help you can give whatsoever! I will be online for the next couple of hours i wish i could get these logs to work b... Read more

Recently, I removed a Extra Antivirus infection. I did a manual removal, as I didn't see that Malwarebytes' could remove it. All symptoms are gone, but my Windows Security Center tells me: "Windows found more than one antivirus program on this computer, and at least one reports that it is up to date and virus scanning is on." The firewall section tells me "At least one of the firewalls installed on this computer is currently ON." When I disable Norton and Outpost, it tells me Extra Antivirus is on for antivirus and firewall. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

Not sure how you did a manual removal. Here's a list of all of the entries you need to deletehttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-remo...extra-antivirusYou said Mbam didn't work. A few weeks ago, the computer got some sort of virus when visiting an online website. The virus would not let me access Malwarebytes, I would click on the icon but nothing came up. The virus would also not allow access to the internet websites. However it did allow messenger, a friend sent me Rkill and I used it, then I used Malwarebytes and Avira Antivir, both found many infected objects and took care of them. This virus had a multi-colored shield in the bottom right icon list and after running the Malwarebytes and Avira, the icon dissapeared and it seemed like the virus was gone and maybe it was. Then just a few days ago, I was browsing the internet and a virus sprang up onto the computer. The virus looked like the "Windows Security Alert" icon except it was called "Security Center Alert". This one did not seem to interfere with the use of the internet, Malwarebytes or Avira at first but every time I tried to get on the internet Avira popups kept popping up constantly, then later on I noticed that Avira Guard was not working. Everything on the Avira list was green except Avira guard. I updated and ran Malwarebytes and Avira extensively. Everytime I ran them they found errors. Then I disconnected the internet from the computer and ran them twice. The first time, they found infected items but the second time they didn't. Then I ran them again just to be sure and nothing was found.I then uninstalled the firefox browser and ie8 browser in safemode, after ... Read more

Hi there,

Back in December I hit on a link that downloaded the Windows Security Center malware/virus to my computer. To remove it, I ran Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware Scan which seemed to remove the virus and allowed me to get online again. However, I am not certain all traces are gone and have not been getting on any sites/doing anything that requires a password, credit card number, etc. I just want to be sure it's all gone so I can begin using my computer fully again.

Before I read the directions for posting in this forum I had already run ComboFix as well. So I am attaching the Malwarebyte's log, the DDS log, the GMER log and the ComboFix log.

The first thing I noticed was that Firefox was getting redirected when trying to check on a Google search results but I didn’t pay any attention to it. I left my computer for a bit yesterday and when I came back it had the “Security Center” virus running on it. I unplugged the internet cable.

Malwarebytes was able to remove it or at least shut it down but the Firewall was still down. I found something on a site about this virus and I was able to get the Firewall back up, at least it acted like it was normal but I could not use Nero to burn any disks to back-up my data. I ran AVG and Ad-Aware but they had no luck. I connected to the internet to try and update but Malwarebytes is unable to update.

This morning when I turned it back on the Firewall was down again. It is still disconnected from the internet but I had already loaded HJT. I will be posting a log in a moment.

Thanks,
