BSOD - Client's Dell Inspiron 1525

Q: BSOD - Client's Dell Inspiron 1525

I have a client with a Dell Inspiron 1525 notebook that is crashing several times a day. The cooling fan was dead and I replaced it but the system is still crashing several times a day. He is running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit. I'm uploading his minidump files from earlier this week when I had the system and replaced the fan. Thought for sure it was crashing due to an overheating problem, the fan was dead.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

We'll need more info on this in order to help - please provide this info: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

One unknown driver shows up: qrsrgiig.sys
There are no google results when it's searched for, so that is suspicious and may suggest a malware infection.

Glancing through the memory dump analysis', the most significant thing (IMO) is the presence of hal.dll in the stack text. This implies that there's a problem with the system recognizing some attached device.
And, the drivers for both the Creative webcam (from 2007) and the Ricoh media card reader (from 2006) are very old - so they're prime suspects.

Please try updating or removing the following older drivers:
OLDER DRIVERS PRESENT IN THE DUMP FILES
- Create a System Restore Point prior to doing any of this. DO NOT mess with the drivers themselves - leave the Windows\System32\drivers directory alone unless we specifically direct you to it!
- Please update these drivers from the device manufacturer's website - or uninstall them from your system. Reference links are included below.
- DO NOT use Windows Update or the Update Drivers function of Device Manager.
- Please feel free to post back about any drivers that you are having difficulty locating.
- Windows Update exceptions may be noted below for Windows drivers:

To get any further data, we'll need the info I requested above.
Also, running Driver Verifier according to the following instructions may reveal the faulting driver's name:

Quote:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like. From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

If that doesn't work, post back and we'll have to see about fixing the registry entry off-line:

Code:
Delete these registry keys (works in XP, Vista, Win7):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDrivers
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDriverLevel

Today I had a BSOD on my laptop, a Dell Inspiron 1525, which happened while waking up the laptop this morning. This is the second BSOD the machine has encountered, the first was on 6/1/12 and I did nothing at the time as it was the first time.

System Info:
Dell Inspiron 1525 about 4-5 years old
OS: Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit installed about 1 month ago (fresh install)
Vista was installed when purchased; have had no issues until today.

BSOD Info:
Prob Event Name: BSOD
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
Local ID 1033
Additional Info (hopefully I counted the zero's right)

A few other things that may be worth mentioning:
* I tried to find a driver after going to Devices & Printers>Properties>Troubleshoot
* Did this after trying to print some BSOD material and noticed printer did not work
*Printer had worked fine until today (networked HPPhotosmart D7460)
* The one strange thing I have noticed since putting Win 7 on the laptop that had not happened prior was that randomly, throughout the day, the system will, for a split second, minimize whatever you are working in and go to the home screen, then a few seconds lator go back to what you were working on. Sort of like a flash on a camera. ... Read more

Hello,

I see your BSODs started about 5 days after you installed Windows 7, which makes me almost suspect a firmware issue. Try installing this BIOS update: Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]

It's not too much newer than your current version, but it's worth a shot for sure. If that doesn't work, post back here and we'll start on some hardware diagnostics.

hello, my husbands laptop is getting the bsod with the message, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and further down STOP: 0x0000000A (0xEFFF1F54,0X00000002,0X0000001, 0X812A4E79)

i have tried rebooting from last known good config and then several system restores, nothing has worked.

at one point i got a message that if a camera device or music player had been added to uninstall it. so i finally managed to boot into safe mode with networking but didn't see anything like that recently added. all my other attempts to boot have failed and only offered the startup repair feature.

is there anything i can do before i have to spend money for a professional? the system recovery options gave the option to boot from a backup-windows complete pc restore; does that mean the last backup the computer created? because i'm pretty sure i don't have a recent one.

i'm not that experienced so if you have any suggestions could you please reply to me like i'm in primary school? thanks very much!!!

I can see the name and everything when I try and connect on my laptop but there is always an error that brings me to a troubleshooting screen. I've made sure the password is correct by going to Start-Run, IPCONFIG and then typing my IP address into the address bar in my browser. I dont know what else I can do, I feel like I've tried everything! Help please.

A:Laptop (Win7 Dell Inspiron 1525) won't connect to desktop (XP Dell) wireless router

Sometimes, you need to replace the router.
Sometimes, you can call your service provider and ask them to take a look on line to see if the subscription needs to be refreshed.
But often, all that is needed (despite the fact that it is a lot of work) is to uninstall your existing system, then reboot, and reinstall everything.
You might also find success by looking at your device manager in Windows to see if you have any grey, red, or yellow flags by any related device. That may show you have a permanent hardware failure if you cannot restore it, then you are off to the store or your provider for a new cable modem or router.

Hi All,

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 that has completely died. I'm not sure what happened to it exactly, as there is not evidence of a drop or a spill, but there are no signs of life whatsoever. I took the battery out, and plugged in the adapter. I know the adapter works fine as the little green light comes on when it's plugged in, and I tried it in another laptop in which it worked. When I hit the power button nothing happens. No lights turn on, or flash, no sounds are made...nothing. It's lifeless. I was thinking about just hitting eBay and ordering a new motherboard, but does anyone know if this is the right thing to do? I don't have the $100 bucks to throw down without being certain so I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Sounds like the DC jack is bad, on your laptop. I would recommend taking it to the nearest (reputable) shop or technician and have them take a look before paying to replace anything.

Try the repair option.

There, you should find an option to run Startup Repair. Try that, maybe even more than once.

You should also see an option to open a command window. In that window, run a disk check:

chkdsk /r

Note the results, and in particular, if any bad clusters are found (Bytes in Bad Clusters).

hi everyone... my dell inspiron 1525 that's about two years old, and has had to operate (most of the time, continuously...) under terrible conditions - smothered ventilation and, oven-hot, is now beeping...

...this summer it seemed the battery went (it would not work unless it was plugged in at all times), and then the fan started running nearly constantly and it would be so hot that it would burn my fingers and often shut off (i've got a cooling fan now, but i don't think it's helping, probably too little, too late), and of late i notice that it is sometimes making a soft click-pause-click sound with occasional louder clicks (the sound of a latch being opened/closed) ...although, now i recall that it may have made that sound once in a while, even when it was new, but maybe i never realized that it could have been doing that because it was critically hot and the hard drive was being damaged...
and now finally it has started making an occasional, small but high pitched, single beep that sounds like it's coming from the hard drive. is this a warning alarm that the hard drive is about to die very soon?

i hated having to run my 'baby' under these conditions and know i'm probably fortunate that it has served me for this long

What's the 7-character service tag number on the sticker of that Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop?

-------------------------------------------------------------

If you've done a hard drive format and clean reinstall of Windows Vista, it needs to be upgraded to SP1 and then to SP2 before you download and install all the post-SP2 updates.

You've obviously done something wrong because it's impossible for the hard drive to fill up from just doing what you say you've done.

Hello, I am hoping someone can help me as my computer is out of warranty.  On Thursday, my Dell Inspiron 1525 (bought in 2008) running Vista Operating System was working perfectly.  No issues at all.  On Friday morning, I went to turn on the computer and the 2 blue lights on the bottom left (the power and the one beside it) light up, the computer sounds like it is going to boot and then it beeps once and dies.  It will continue to do this over and over every few seconds until I turn off the power manually.
I have tried the trick of taking out the battery and the cord, pressing the power button and then plugging the battery and cord back in, but it still did not work.  The computer will not boot using just the cord (and not the battery) and vice versa.  Does anyone have any ideas on what could be happening or how I could fix this?
Thank you in advance for any help you could offer.

Once I choose that option my laptop begins to boot up, then it goes to a blue screen with some white words for a second or two, then to a pure black screen with no light being emitted for about ten seconds, after that it turns of and restarts. This happens whenever I turn my laptop on.

I had to replace my ac adapter and in the process of taking my laptop apart I managed to break a cable ribbon retaining clip. It's a square shape with only three sides. One side is open. It held the ribbon cable to my multi-media bar (controlling my volume, mute, stop, play, pause, etc.). Does anybody know where I can find these tiny, obscure parts? I tried Dell and got nowhere.

Thanks,

A:Part for Dell Inspiron 1525

I doubt you will find the clip itself for sale but you might find a broken motherboard that has the same type on Ebay.

The clip pushes down on the ribbon to ensure good contact in the socket. If you still have the parts of the broken clip you may be able to glue them together or fit the largest piece and put tape over it to keep it in place.

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 which has gone haywire. I was using it a few days ago when it just shut down for no reason. Upon booting it went to a black screen with a white blinking cursor.

I have tried to boot it into safe mode = not working at all.
I have tried to use recovery console = not working at all.

The only F-keys working are F2 and F12. Neither of which are helping in repairing my laptop.

I tried and tried again to reboot but nothing. I then left it overnight thinking it might have booted by the time I got back to it, but nothing.

Using my daughters laptop I downloaded Hirens boot cd, had a look through that and run an antispyware app. Rebooted and still nothing. Tried to boot from hard drive, black screen. I don't know what else I could use from the disc which might help.

A friend had a copy of spotmau bootable cd. I tried that and running the emergency kit section and then windows recovery I went through each option one by one. However it failed on the registry recovery.

I could have used the registry recovery but I have no idea where the registry file would be, so I left it at that.

There's also an option to recover from an image file. But I can't get it even though there is a Dell backup image on there.

I have the Dell recovery console built in but it ain't happening because I can't access it, it's just this black screen.

Can anyone help in getting me up and running again?

Hi KristineP42,
Welcome to Dell community,
I am sorry to hear that the system is not working to your satisfaction. In order to help you we need to find out what is it that is causing the system to behave this way, so to isolate this issue I need you to perform a few steps and observe couple of things.
Please run the tests on the system to launch the PSA+ Diagnostics, perform one of the following actions:
Hold down the <Fn> key while pressing the power button.
Turn on the system, press <F12> at the initial Dell? logo screen, and select Diagnostics from the boot menu.
Let me know if it returns any error code.
Also, you can take the system in the BIOS by pressing the f2 key at startup and observe the system there and check if it stays there without restarting.
Let me know your findings. Glad to be of assistance.

You can run Dell diagnostics on the drive to rule out failure . . if it has failed, you will have to reinstall everything on the new drive.

If they were able to successfully extract the data, you may just need to run chkdsk on the drive to get it back

Do you know if that machine is Win 7 compatible at all, drivers aside?

I wouldn't get frantic about drivers.

Your Windows install disc should have most of them; you might get a few more from Windows Update.

I would go to Dell's website and download your Ethernet (NIC) driver in case Windows doesn't install it. It's the most important driver as you need it to get on the net.

Of course, it wouldn't do any harm to download all possible drivers from Dell, but I wouldn't necessarily install them. See how Windows own drivers do for you.

After you install and get updated, inspect the functionality of your hardware and take a look in Device Manager. If anything is goofy at that time, then look around for other drivers.

My Laptop over heated today and I removed the back plate to gain access to clean out the fan ect... Once I tried to boot the computer up, everything flashed at me like always but then turned off, the screen remained black.
I?ve done a little research via googled and I have tried .....

1) Removing the AC power lead and the battery and switched them about to see if it would resolve, but resulted in the same issue as stated above.
2) Holding the power button down for 10/20 seconds without the laptop having power and with power. Then powering up.
3) I?ve pulled the HDD and the memory as instructed by the Dell support site (When power was disconnected) and booted, switch the memory about and booted a number of time. Everything was re-connected properly.

This is driving me totally mad as I need the laptop due to work and other reasons, I paid £550 about four years ago so it?s no longer under warranty, also none of the settings where changed before the issue began.

I would be grateful for any advice or assistance,So what is the possible issue that I?m having, is my motherboard fried or is it something else?

Hello all,

I just finished wiping a friends laptop with a fresh copy of Windows XP Pro SP3. A couple days later I went to use it after it installed Microsoft Office 2007 Pro Plus. IT was extremely slow afterwards. Extremely slow means it took 15 minutes just to pull up the Start Menu. I removed all traces of Office and it was still slow so I did a clean install on Windows Vista (Which it shipped with) however the install itself is taking ages as well... Can anyone tell me what has happened??? I am at a loss and I just want this thing to start working again. I have also tried resetting the BIOS back to default settings and still nothing!

Could be a simple hardware problem..make sure everything in bios is reading correctly (amount of ram, CPU clock speed, etc).

If its not the above, IDK. new OS would be first suggestion, but apparently you did that already.

My four year old tossed my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop across the room today, and since then, it isn't booting.

It reaches Vista's loading screen, where you see the moving bar and "© Microsoft Corporation," but it doesn't go past that point. Initially, I heard a clicking sound.

I tried booting it in Safe Mode, but the same thing happened. I also tried booting it from the Vista DVD, but got the same problem.

I took the hard drive out and looked at it, and couldn't see any visual damage.

I ran the Windows Diagnostics tool, and got the following error code:

Error code 0142

Error code 2000-0142

Hard drive 1 - self test unsuccessful status 79

I've seen reports of people having similar problems that were fixed by a replacement hard drive, but I'm wondering if I can get the data off of this one first. Is it worth trying to find an external USB drive enclosure, or is the drive too damaged?

And how can I get my laptop running again? It's not under warranty anymore.

Thanks for any help!

I would buy an external wd passport harddrive.
Take the hard drive out of your laptop...2 screws on botom of the unit.
set it down and take a picture to remember the orientation of the black plastic pull cover.
Take the wd external apart..it will slide out..its a little tricky the first time.
now switch the covers between the 2 hard drives and put the usb adapter on the old hard drive and slide evevything back in the case about 90 percent of the way.
push the hdd into the laptop...be sure to put the pull handle back on.
Use you windows dvd and put on windows
then the drivers from the drivers and utilities disk

now plug in your old had via the usb port and see if you can read the files...alot of times you can recover many of the files

Note..when booting the vista dvd
hit power start tapping f12 light and fast
then select the dvd rom from the list to boot from

I am helping a friend that has a 18 month old Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop running Vista Home Premium. Her hard drive is failing and it will be necessary to replace the hard drive.

I have been able to go in and use an external hard drive to save all of her picture, docements, etc.

I also saved the restoration partition that was put on the hard drive.

Here is my question. When I install a new hard drive, I assume that I should next install the Vista Home Premium from the included disk. Does it make any sense to reintroduce the restoration partition which I have saved on the hard drive. I could set up the partition when I first install Vista Home Premium.

My thinking is that I then could start the restoration process and thus have the computer installed with all the programs it originally came with.

I would need help with the following:

1) How to set up the restoration partition when I first set up Vista on the new hard drive. I can determine from the size of the files within the partition
how big it should be.

2) How to start the restoration process after I have the files for the restoration partition installed. on the computer. (I know on some computers
you would choose F10 or F11 to start the restoration process!)

3) Is it really worth the bother to go through all of this. I DO HAVE THE VISTA INSTALLATION CD AND THE DRIVERS!!!

Thanks for any and all thoguhts on this. I appreciate all your ideas.

Tony, so the problem is your laptop is turned on, but the laptop screen isn't displaying an image?

Disconnect the HDMI cable, first. Look across your top row of keys on the keyboard. Tap the key with an icon on it that looks like a computer screen, then wait a second and see if your screen lights up It may be the F8 key, not sure. On some models you have to hold down the Fn key while you tap the F8 key. That toggles your LCD screen on and off.

Hi,

I'm running Dell Inspiron 1525 Windows 7 64-bit and having problems with my beatuful dell touchpad, which works just fine except horizontal and vertical scrolling. I have already read some materials on the web and have downloaded of couble of useless stuff but the problems hasn't gone. I like my Dell Inspiron 1525, but the 64-bit drivers really suck.
On another partiiton I'm running SuSE and it looks much better than win7.

Can someone please help me to solve the problem with the touchpad. Another links to good / stable win7 64 drivers are also appreciated.

Thanks.
Alpha, From Siberia with love

Your touchpad problems are Windows 7 related since anyone with Ricoh, or Alps, touchpads are having the same issue regardless of PC manufacturer.

I have seen many different threads about this same issue, but have not seen anything that has worked for me. I have a Dell inspiron 1525 and recently upgraded to windows 7. Since then all is good except for the fact that the internal microphone doesn't work at all. I have tried to install the sigmatel driver, but it says it doesn't support my operating system, even when I try and install it with compatibility mode. I would love any help on the subject as I am getting very frustrated with it. Thanks.

A:Dell Inspiron 1525 internal microphone

Without the Sigmatel driver you are having to use the native Windows HD audio driver which is a basic generic  that does not support all functions of the audio hardware. As you said the normal solution is to install the Sigmatel Vista audio driver R218148 in Vista compatibility mode. To do that you would download the Vista driver package and unzip it  but cancel the installation process. Go to its folder at c:\Dell\Drivers\R218148. Find the setup.exe file and right click on it. Select the Properties. Find the compatibility tab and select Vista.

If that is what you did and got the error message I suspect it is because it is a 32 bit driver and your version of 7 is 64 bit. There is another driver you can try. When Sigmatel went out of business it was absorbed by IDT and the early IDT drivers seem to be based on the Sigmatel ones. The IDT R226903 audio driver for 7 reportedly works on the 1525 so it is worth a try. You might be able to install it directly, but the instructions I was given were as follows:
With the Windows native driver installed, download and unzip the IDT but cancel the installation. Go into Device Manager to the audio controller (under "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers"). Right click on it and chose to update the driver. Choose to manually find the driver and don't let Windows look for it. Browse to c:\Dell\drivers\R226903 then click "Next". When you restart the laptop Windows will detect your audio hardware and install... Read more

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 that I upgraded it to Windows 7 32-bit. I was able to get the drivers I needed from Dell`s website by using the service tag number for the laptop. There is a bios update that you will want to get also. Dell - Drivers and Downloads

Hello,
Has anyone ever experienced/solved the problem of having the machine spontaneously shut itself off, as if it were running on battery power and ran out of power, even when plugged in? It usually re-starts after a minute without much concern, but sometimes lately it won't. I eventually figured out if I remove the battery pack, unplug the machine, plug it back in, and restart it will turn back on. Then, the battery goes back in and it's fine for a while. I'm afraid at some point it won't restart at all. I'd love some advice. Thanks, TJD8

I suppose you have determined that it isn't an overheating problem.

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer -supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Setup cannot continue. To quit setup, press F3.

So if anyone can help I will be greatly appreciative of it. Thanks again and Have a blessed day

I have this notebook and after three years of usage it became so slow, it would take 30 min to start.

Last week I formatted its hard drive and reinstalled Windows Vista.

As soon as I went on the Internet my computer crashed again.
Another complete reinstall and another crash after I tried to access the web. This time the crash happened while I was attempting to install Avira !

Thinking I may have a hardware problem, I did a third complete reinstall and started to use the computer off line. It works perfectly! No crashes in a whole week.

My question is, what is the antivirus software I need and how can I install it off line.

As a second question, I noticed that a group of drivers is missing under "Other device". The group includes 3 drivers. There is no way for me to figure out which this "other device" is so that I can download the drivers for it. I know I installed all recommended drivers from my resource CD.

I am having fits with my mouse and typing!!! I use a wireless mouse and it seems as though my touchpad is soooo sensitive that if my thumb hovers over the pad, I end up typing somewhere else . Driving me totally crazy because I can't get any work done! I googled this and everywhere I have read has said to click on Hardware, then Mouse, then Settings etc. First off, in my Control Panel, I do not have a Hardware icon. I do have a Mouse icon, but no where in there can I make any changes. I also searched for Dell Touchpad and nothing comes up on my computer. Help!!!

Upon trying to load my laptop up, just after the Dell screen and Windows loading screen, it goes to a blank black screen with white mouse pointer.

Pointer moves, however just stays stuck on this page.

I have tried starting in Safe Mode, same thing happens.

I have read I could try to do a clean install of Vista, however I cannot find my disc

Is there anything else I can do?

Any help appreciated.
