I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Take a look at this list and choose on your own, personal preference is likely going to outweigh anything else. By the way, Opera is based on Presto, so Chromium based browsers will be a bit different.

I don't know how I got this program in the first place and now I don't know how to remove it.
1. tried to uninstall using the normal method using the list in the control panel. no luck
2. Used the free malwarebytes program this put a couple of chromium files in the virus vault but did not close the program.
The desktop short cut is still on the desktop.
Now I haven't a clue what to do next to remove this intruder, as anyone any idea?

Have you tried this? Control Panel>Programs>Default Programs>Set Your Default Programs>Click onGoogle Chrome>Click on Choose Defaults for this Program>Check boxes for HTTP and HTTPS>Click on "Save" and close out open windows. Chrome should now be your default browser - at least it works for me.

I've been tricked into downloading the Chromium browser, and I can't seem to get rid of it.

removal through the windows 10 panel doesn't work.  Neither can I remove it through CCleraner

A search suggest the file(s) are hidden in something called C:users\entra\appdata\roaming\microsoft\........  but I can't find appdata directory.

Is there a way of removing Chromium completely from Windows 10?

You will have to explain how to find the box to type in the command line if necessary, I'm new to windows 10.

Hi. I've got this thing that's been popping up a lot, it's been bugging me for a while. Similar, if not same, problem as the user here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/412878/constant-popups-appearing-likely-from-mshtaexe/
I tried removing it with MBAM, but it only seemed to work the first time. I scanned, it removed some viruses or malware, and the popup didn't appear for a while after that. Here's a picture: http://puu.sh/r7abK/8aea3a4188.jpg

It interrupts me when I'm trying to use other things, like type in a browser or drag a window. Is there a way I can resolve this without downloading half a dozen programs? Something I can manually uninstall or remove? I've got no money so there's no way I can get any premium upgrades for MBAM or similar. Thank you.

Hello

after an experience with SRWare Iron (a fork of Chromium) in which I declared it as default browser, I uninstalled it

SRWare Iron

Then I installed Chromium build continuous (cf last line). Chromium is the free version of Google Chrome (to resume).

Chromium continuous

The pb is : in my machine, it is now impossible declaring Chromium as default Browser.

It is OK in my other machine when SRW Iron has never been installed.

In fact the command is accepted but has no effect : everything occurs as if there were no longer any default browser.

It seems that for the system, Chromium is still SRW Iron. And, as it no longer exists...

Do you know how to fix it ? Thanks in advance !

A:Impossible declaring Chromium as default browser

Hi Pierre and welcome to Seven Forums. Have you tried setting IE as the default browser? If that works you may then be able to set Chromium as the default.

Hi,

A week ago I started hearing a "Congratulations you've won" audio message play at seemingly random times while browsing with Chromium. I can usually find the site where it "comes from" because of a distinctive, flashing click-here ad on the side that always comes with the sound. (Lol; just heard it again now.) I gather that this is a classic virus, but I can't seem to get rid of it. I've got avast! running, and have scanned with it as well as ccleaner, spybot, adaware, housecall, etc. Everything says my system is clean (except the programs that want money, like SpyHunter). I've even run a few of them in safe mode.

I should note that Chromium for Windows doesn't install like most browsers. I just unzipped it, moved it into program files, and double clicked the .exe file. It's worked like a normal ever since, except that I can't make it my default browser. Not sure why but I thought maybe that's why I've had so ... Read more

Hi,
I've been using Windows 8 since the Developer preview and I've had no problems with it until now.

I recently got fed up with Firefox (for being too slow, and buggy). so I installed Chromium (not chrome. Chromium, the open source version of Google chrome without that spyware Google puts in it's browser)

But I have a big problem with it - I can't set it as my default browser. If I go to the settings and and click the big button that says "Make Chromium your default browser" all I get is this.

I've seen many tutorials about adding default software, but for some reason chromium isn't listed in the "default apps" section of control panel.

Is there a way to navigate to a certain .exe to add it as a default?

I'm pretty sure it came from an update to a freeware program called freemake audio converter. It installed chromium and also set all my default search bars and home pages to yahoo. Changed the search bars back and uninstalled Chromium from control panel. It's no longer there to uninstall but still autoruns every time I start my pc. Tried deleting the source folder by changing the permissions on it. No luck.

By Chromium you mean Google Chrome? Maybe that's why you can't find it in the Registry?
You should not remove a program by manually deleting it, you need to use it's uninstaller. Try using the free Revo Uninstaller, be sure to use the Advanced method to remove all remnants from the Registry.

Hello, from a first-time poster.

A member of my family whom I will leave unnamed recently updated a program on his laptop, and when he did so a bunch of other programs installed onto the machine as well. After this update, said family member let me know that something was popping up saying he had such-and-such number of viruses on the computer. I knew this itself may be a virus, so I checked the installed programs and found five additional applications he did not intend to install. I used the Uninstall Program window to get rid of all those things, but upon reboot Chromium still starts up (I should have made a list of the names of the other ones before I tried to uninstall). It is no longer showing up on the Uninstall Programs menu, but it is still on the start menu. I have tried Malwarebytes and Malwarebytes Rootkit, but to no avail. Then I found this forum. I am attaching the FRST files that your instructions as for. I hope you can help us fix this laptop. Thanks in advance.

After searching the web with my computer I found out how to get rid of the virus warning and all is fine for now. So now I am still stuck trying to figure out a way to delete this Chromium program. It seems to always come on after Windows boots up. Cannot find where the main file or execute file is located in the file system. Any comments or help will be appreciated.

At my last check Chromium had to be compiled from source for Windows with the instructions specifically using Visual Studio to do so. I was wondering if anyone here has done so, and if so what the results were like? I really like Google Chrome but I had a discussion about SE Linux alerts and Google Chrome the other day. It mainly was about Chrome's constant contact with the mothership, and how that surprisingly it is not prompting more of these SE Linux alerts. That has got me thinking about using Chromium instead. I am assuming Chromium's OSS nature probably lends superior respect for privacy versus Chrome. Any info on compiling Chromium for Windows or thoughts about privacy issues concerning the use of either would be greatly appreciated. However, please do not post about alternatives such as SRWare's Iron here. I am fully aware of those alternatives and I am not interested in them.

Sincerely,
bbjester

I'm running a chromium 21.x snap shot. Every time I try to update to one of the new 22.x snap shots, I lose all favicons. Seems to be a recurring problem with chrome browser. The snap shots have been 22.x for awhile now. I'm surprised nobody has picked up on this issue.

Even running Bookmark Sentry to manually load all my bookmarks to check they exist does not refresh the favicons. While the extension is running I can see favicons showing up in the bookmarks. But as soon as I close the browser and open it again, they are all gone.

Really weird.

I did notice a mention of a chrome extension named Bookmarks Favicon Fixer. But all searches end up pointing to dead links.

edit: I filed it as an issue on chromium bug tracker. See what happens.

A:chromium 22.x no favicons

What'd you expect? It's obviously a beta/alpha build, which means that every build might also have a regression over the previous. You might want to make things easy on you by just going for stability and leaving the newest test builds alone.

It's also very likely that this doesn't occur on every system running that 22.x build. You did the right thing by filing a bug report. The next build might not contain this bug, thanks to you!

RELEVANCY SCORE 38.8

Using Edge 81.0.416.68 64bit I am not seeing the IE blue "e" so I am apparently still running in Chrome mode on two sites that require Internet Explorer:

I have configured the two required GPO's:

and I have used the v2 builder to create the list:

which outputs what I was expecting:

<site-list version="5">
  <created-by>
    <tool>EMIESiteListManager</tool>
    <version>12.0.0.0</version>
    <date-created>05/04/2020 23:21:15</date-created>
  </created-by>
  <site url="tgs/POPS">
    <compat-mode>IE8Enterprise</compat-mode>
    <open-in>MSEdge</open-in>
  </site>
  <site url="tgs/sites/projects">
    <compat-mode>IE8Enterprise</compat-mode>
    <open-in>MSEdge</open-in>
  </site>
</site-list>

Edge is seeing the list:

and the registry looks fine (to me anyway :) )

I have tried several combinations of settings in the ENT MODE SITE LIST MANAGER but not succeeded.
I simply want the two sites specified to open inside Edge in IE mode.
As soon as that is done, I will block iexplore.exe from running on machines as a security improvement.
If you have any idea what I am missing or doing wrong, I would appreciate your comments and thoughts.
