Ways to Hookup Older Game Systems to HDTV?

Q: Ways to Hookup Older Game Systems to HDTV?

Hello. I am trying to hookup a Sega Genesis, Dreamcast, and a Playstation 1 to my HDTV. I have a picture of the back of the TV for your suggestions on what I can buy or how I can use what I currently have to make them all work. I have a Playstation 2 hooked up already using up all of the inputs on the back leaving just HDMI and cable box available to use.

I also have a picture of the game and cable box, so you can see if there is a way that I might be able to hook them all up to the game box and make it connect to the Cable box and somehow use the cable box as the input device for the game systems to the back of the TV.

Here are the pictures: (Should be attached at the bottom).
If you all have any suggestions on any device that may be able to work with this setup, that would be very helpful. The back of the game systems each use their own AV adapter containing red, white, and yellow cables. The genesis has only yellow and white cords (no red). The game box seems to be an AV/RF box with 4 buttons on the front to select which game system to use. Not sure if it is working since it has been stored away for so long.

Thanks for your help. If the TV contained a lot more of those RCA inputs on the back, there would be no problem and would not have to use an external box or input device. Do let me know if you need anymore information. I will try to check back often. I am looking forward to hearing your responses. Have a great day.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have tried for a couple hours to hook up two different TV and have ultimatley came to the same end.

Both are on VGA(insignia 22") or PC input. (sony 32")
both have no signal.
swapped cabbles, swapped VGA to DVI converters
changed the ports on my video card, did a cable change and changed it again
computer boots like normal, all the welcome sounds, no PC signal on the display.
unplugged the cables and computer, rebooted nothing.
both were extended to my main display.

the CCC shows that it recognizes the TV. i have Force Tv recognition ON and Force component video detection on.

Both tvs were detected and both had the settings for the reduced to 680x400.

my pc recognized them both as a PnP monitor.

both the ATI CCC read the both the TVs and had it all set up to the recomended settings. booted up nothing

i then changed it to 680x400 for both and still no signal.

im all out of ideas. all the reading i did online said that if the resolution for the TV was reduced it would work.

not in my case.

any ideas?

specs are:

windows 7 pro 64 bit
6gigs DDR3
ATI HD 4890
AMD 955

I need to find a PCI video card that has the available adapter to go from VGA to HDTV. I have found one that does it, ATI Radeon 8500 (adapter purchased separately), but it is AGP. The PC I am trying to hook this to does not have a AGP slot.

Does anyone know if this exists? I tried calling Best Buy and they said that nothing exists to do that period, AGP or PCI. I know that's not the case. It has to hookup to the component hookup in the pack of the TV. It is possible....

Please help, I have been working on this for the company prez forever, I need to move on with my life!

Newegg has quite a few PCI video cards I am not sure if any of them will do what you want but I would recommend checking that link as they have links to the manufacturers Web sites. From there you could try mailing them.

Hey guys,

I work for a law enforcement agency that is trying to put together a room basically to have real time data operating center.

I personally believe that the expenses that have been incurred have gone too high simply because the funding exists. Heres my question:

Currently we are going to run two 65 inch 1080p televisions via HDMI to PC. The application that is being displayed by the TV is a low resolution mapping application that is very basic and in NO way utilizes anything HI-Def what so ever.

I suggested that a projector setup linking via PCs would be cheaper and utilize the technology that more so than getting HDTV. But the top level thinks that getting this now is better for the future and that having such a large screen allows for more windows to put more data in visual site.

Is there any alternative to such a powerful flat screen that will give us 65 inches worth of space that can be powered by a PC?

Or can you think of any reasons why running a pc based application may be a total waste of a television thats going to cost 5,000 dollars? I really want to try to convince them to scale it down because right now its just excessive.

windows 8. How do I set my computer after I hookup my HDTV to my computer. Just to watch movies on from my computer with my surround sound. Now I have a HDTV with HDMI hookup of a Blu-Ray surround sound, which is great for watching dvds. My computer has standard monitor with 2 computer speakers hooked to it now. I want to keep that for normal web surfing.
Hooking to my HDTV. up my computer with no hdmi Imput I am using a hdmi cable plug into back of tv and a dvi adapter on other end of HDMI cable which plugs into back of computer.
Now question I need answer. I want to watch movies and videos that I make on my HDTV or videos from you tube. What do I change in settings to be able to do this. I do not want my tv as a constant monitor just for special things with the surround sound. In very simple terms how do I set the computer to be able to accomplish this. I am very new to all this as you can tell. all help would be appreciated.

A:computer hookup to hdtv, settings

The biggest problem is that DVI does not carry any sound, so you would need to listen to your movies using the speakers hooked into your PC. Unless your Blu-Ray player has pass-through inputs so that it could be used as a stereo receiver.

I had a tech friend mention to me that a strong video card helps considerably when using an HDTV monitor for a computer display. Trouble is, he's away on a road trip now and I can't get any further info from him about how to select and purchase a video graphics card for my old Dell Dimension 4500S (P4 chip) computer (circa 2002) that I'm about to start using with my big screen HDTV for occasional net surfing (I also have a newer (dual core chip) desktop computer in my home office).

If anyone can make any recommendations on specs, compatibility factors, or any other info I would need to select and purchase a strong video card, I would deeply appreciate them, because I've never involved myself with graphics cards before.

no seriously there isn't much you can do past those two things, but if you are trying hard to get around this issue there is a small little program.

Its freeware, don't know if you will see much difference but the program ends all the background processes so just the game is the only thing your computer has to process.

I have some older machines (X60, X60s, X61, X61s), I can download drivers from Lenovo for Windows 8.1 maximum, I wonder how well Windows 10 is supported on these older machines, officially orunofficially? Hello Guys,

Has anyone managed to get older O/S's like Windows 95, 98 and ME running on VirtualBox on Windows 8, I used to be able to run all Operating Systems when I had my Vista set up. Strangely I can install and run DOS and Win 3.1 but not Win 95, Win 98 and Win ME. Anything from XP works fine.

Is this a filesystem problem? - Whereas MS-DOS and Windows 3.1 resided on FAT formatted hard disks. FAT32 was for the Windows 9x brigade, and NTFS for XP etc.

Let's see how we used to do it in the old days...

Before you started you needed a boot floppy with CD-ROM support, A Windows '95 install CD, which was not bootable, a CD-ROM drive and a Hard drive usually between 512 and 1024 MB - 1 gig or less - bigger drives were a problem and quite rare then.

You needed a formatted DOS 6.2 or better boot partition with the system files on it to install to, I recall, the method in those days was boot from a DOS system floppy in the a:\ drive, run Format c: /s but not reboot yet, so that the CD-ROM drivers on the floppy would still work and then copy the contents from the CD-ROM to the hard drive, which was faster than installing from the CD-ROM. The DOS commands (in red)were as follows:
C:\>md windows
C:\>cd windows
C:\WINDOWS>md options
C:\WINDOWS>cd options
C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS>copy d:\win95\*.*

Where d:\ was the CD-ROM drive. Once the files had copied, it was time to reboot, removing the CD-ROM and Boot floppy.
On rebooting from the hard disk, you were taken to the C:\prompt, and it was a case of navigating to the setup folder that had all the setup cabs in it.

C:\>cd \windows\options\cabs

I think that the setup complained that there was no HIME... Read more

Does anyone know a good source of information on older systems? I'm running a HP Pavilion 4483 (second-hand) from '99 or so and the little info I can find seems conflicting. Specificly, I'd like to add RAM to get this old dog as fast as it can get. HP Support tells me this computer only has 2 SDRAM slots(both used) but opening it up I see 3 slots, one empty. I could pull the 64MB SDRAM out and put in a 128MB but it would be cheaper to just add a 64MB card.

I have a laptop and he has a desktop. Is there anyway to hook them up directly (phone line from modem to modem) without going to the net for a multiplayer connection? Also is this more a networking question?

If it isn't possible to direct connect the two with one phone line directly connnected modem to modem. How would a internet connection work? When i try to connect through internet and dial a phone number it says (error: could not dial). Now, i am not having internet or modem troubles with anything else on the two computers.

I have a older computer that run just fine with Windows XP and Windows Vista (the computer had not been use, and the current installed OS was W7). Few days ago I reinstalled Windows XP x64 and Windows Vista x64 and they both ended in a disaster.
XP: I installed first the updates by using pre-downloaded servicepacks and then the chipset drivers. XP went to bleeps because installation of Avast failed. I also had a problem with USB-ports which stopped working. Anyway after failed avast installation the operating system wouldnt boot up anymore. I decided the install Vista instead.
Vista: After installing servicepacks I noticed that Windows Update is not working anymore. Tried solving it by installing Fix It tool from microsoft. I encountered another problem where powershell did not install. I gave up on getting the update service to work, and decided to do some benchmarks. The computer froze and after pressing the reset Windows Vista wouldnt boot up anymore.
W10: I decided to install W10 ... everything works now.
I dont remember the older operating systems being so bad, or I am just seeing things through rose-tinted glasses?
MSI P35 Platinum
4x 1Gb G.Skill DDR2 800Mhz
Q6600 Go
HD 5870

A:Is microsoft self-sabotaging their older operating systems?

Probably a combination of rose-tinted glasses and software changing. Here's the thing: Vista and XP aren't supported anymore. This lack of support means they don't receive new features that may be used by modern software. So stuff breaks. The longer the OS has been out of support, the worse things get. Conspiracy theories are silly simply because there is no need for M$ to sabotage old OSes.

I have a bit of a "senior citizen" when it comes to a computer to use. My day to day computer is that one in my signature. Compaq Deskpro with a 1.0 GHz P3 and 512 of RAM. What I usually do to a system like this and slower ones that run Windows XP is I go to System>Advanced>Performance>Settings and uncheck all but: use visual styles on windows and buttons, use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop, use common tasks in folders, use a background image for folder type, and smooth edges of screen fonts. For older even older systems I will uncheck: use common tasks in folders. Just a little curious on what others do.

Can anyone provide information or recommendations concerning anti-virus, anti-trojan, anti-adware, anti-spyware or firewall programs that will run under old operating systems, specifically Windows 3.11, Windows 3.1, Windows 95 or DOS 6.x??

A:Anti-malware for older operating systems?

Hi junklover and welcome to BC.Take a look at www.oldversion.com for some programs you can match to Windows95. You can get ZoneAlarm 2.6 from there and that will work alright. There are also older versions of AdAware that will probably work with 95 but I would try the latest one just for the heck of it. They also have Spybot S&D, but again the latest one will work (see the Spybot FAQs for the fix for 95).F-Prot Antivirus for DOS is free for home use, which almost seems like an oxymoron as I don't think many corporations are using Dos these days. AVG Professional works on 95 so I don't see why AVG 7 free version won't.You are at risk for malware with at least Win95. I just cleaned a machine with 95 on it and it had a number of spyware/adware programs. I cleaned it the lazy way by formatting and loading 98SE . The only belittling remarks I can think of concern me because I should have more for you as I am the King of Old Stuff.

Hi All. I have had this computer for about 4 years now and my version of Windows XP Prof is 2002 date.
I recently was told by a computer builder who helped me that Windows XP Prof works on a file system called NTFS. I apparently have files that I copied back onto this computer after installing Windows XPp that are of the Fat32 variety. I was not aware at the time that NTFS and Fat32 apparently are incompatible. I have had problems over these years and have zero'd out my hard drive 3 times and reinstalled Windows XPp from scratch. What I was not aware of was that My versions of Microsoft Word and Word Perfect and some downloaded programs are Fat32. I need these programs and cannot afford to replace them. I only have the latest Java chosen in the advance tab of tools but without the MSVM installed Pogo does not work at all for me. So I have both with the Java 5.7 chosen as program. But I am told that my computer is confused due to the File system problem. (Please pardon my redundancy - I have posted this to the Customer Care Board and Client Service forums - just hoping to correct what I hope was an accidental change in support policy.)
This is not a technical comment but it is a comment about Dell's Technology Support. Recently the support site for laptops, and I presume other areas though I have not checked, was revised to change its structure. In the process many items were removed notably having to do with drivers for older systems. Even if a system is past warranty that does not remove the responsibility for Dell to continue to provide the most recent (even if old) drivers especially since the cost of doing so is trivial. This is especially the case when Dell is the only source for specific drivers. A specific example is a Dell Vostro 3700 laptop which uses the embedded GPU in the CPU as well as outboard nVidia GPU; the hybrid video architecture is such that NVidia provides no driver and re-directs users to Dell's site. In the case of this specific model, most of the drivers that were present a month ago are now gone.
Dell laptops have two things going for them - good products at a good price and a great support site. This has prompted me to continue focusing upon Dell - e.g. two new 5759's in 2017, and to recommend Dell to colleagues and friends. I have had recent occasion to review some very old systems on HP's support site - all relevant drivers continue to be available. I strongly recommend that Dell c... Read more

I've been experiencing some pretty nasty static from my speakers whenever watching computer game cinematics that predate the year 2000. I tested this theory by trying multiple games that were made 2000 and post 2000 and their cinematics would work prefectly with sound. However, anything that was pre 2000 would cause a rather annoying crackly sound to play through the speakers and would last for a couple of minutes after the cinematic had ended before going away finally.

I also think that this issue may have something to do with the vibration of my dvd rom spinning around because any cinematic plays just fine until the cd needs to be read in which case the computer speeds up the drive and the static ensues. I spent all of yesterday downloading new drivers for my sound card and fiddling around with my Realtek HD Audio Manager to absolutely no avail. I even installed this particular game I'm trying to play - Starcraft - on my wifes PC to see if she was experiencing these same issues...and she was not. Everything played fine on hers.

I struggled to match every last audio-related sound setting I could find between our computers (every last setting in Realtek HD Manager, sound drives being identical versions, general sound settings etc.) but was not able to find the root of the issue it seems.

However, a Mortal Kombat X bundle is on sale on Steam for $30. Normally, the price would be $90 because of what all it contains.

I like the idea of having it on PS4 because it?s easy to pop a disc in and unwind after having to deal with people for 8 hours (I work at Walmart). At the same time, it?s rather difficult to pass up a deal of 50%+ off. So, I pose this question to other gamers on this forum:

Do you buy a copy of a game for every system you have? Or do you consider it a waste to buy a game for a particular system if it doesn?t look 100% as good on that system as it might on another system?

A:Buying a game for multiple systems

Now a days I go console mainly, my PC's are falling behind in performance. XB1 can share games and Live with the family, also ended up getting two of em.
But I do consider PC for games I can mod, such as GTA V, Fallout 4 etc. ( I know, mods for Fallout 4 on XB... some day)
Play em on console and IF I really love it but wish it had personal touches then I check out the PC version.

Just "dug out" an old favorite of mine, Sierra's "Phantasmagoria", but unfortunately I have been unable to get it to run on two of my newer computers.

AMD Athelon 64 3000+
Sound Max Digital Audio
Radeon 92SE Display Adapter
Win XP Prof

AMD Athelon XP 3200+
Realtek AC'97 Audio
NVIDIA GeForce MX Display Adapter
Win XP Home

The disk installation hangs or just does not complete.

Is there any way to get this game to run on newer computers?

I have thought of buying an old used laptop (Pentium II) running Win 97, but they can't be found.

I keep getting the BSOD described above on some of the old game I recently purchase on STEAM

The list of game
Star Wars Republic CommandoVampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines

WhoCrashes V5.51 Stated that the system thread generated an exception which the error handler did not catch.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem. The crash took place in a standard Microsoft module. Your system configuration may be incorrect. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver on your system that cannot be identified at this time.

The problem come from DirectX Graphics MMS

My O.S is Windows 10 Pro 64bit and I just reinstalling my graphic driver and run a memory test yesterday and no error detected.

Hi Faiz5595,

The games you mention are released 10-11 years ago.
My guess is that those games aren't updated anymore and thus do not support Windows 10.

If the games have been updated since the release of Windows 10, please let me know and I'll take a look at the zip for you

hi, I found an older game from 1998 that I felt like playing and when I install and play it, the sound in the game is all crackly and it's unbearable to deal with. I noticed that the cds used .aif audio tracks and when I opened them in realplayer, it sounded fine. How would I be able to fix it?
Operating system is Windows XP. Using built-in audio card with a Gigabyte motherboard, drivers have been recently updated.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Nevermind. Fixed it by turning off hardware acceleration with directx.

I am searching for the name of an older game. I played on windows 95. It was a bunch of wheel like shapes that had flowers, birds etc. and you had to turn the wheels to match up the pictures with matching pictures on the other wheels( and several wheels interlocked with each other, so if you turned one then it may not match the picture on another wheel.). There would be birds fly by every now and then and make tweet sounds. Does anyone recognize this? I think it was called Spring something but not sure. I tried to search on wikipedia but not sure how to ask the question. so didn't find anything, however I also read other posts that say Encarta had games with it. I had Encarta too so this game may've been from that disk. Please any help would be greatly appreciated. Also could this game be played on Win XP?

Hey everyone. I haven't played this game since I had Windows 98. It is NHRA Drag Racing Main Event. It says its compatible with 95, 98, ME. I couldn't get it to play on my XP machine and just gave up on it. It seems to do the same thing on 7 as it did on XP. I can install it and it seems to go in normally. It will install by default in the Program Files(x86) folder. When I try to play it, it will load but all I see is a black screen. I can hear it running but see no picture. I have tried changing the resolution and all compatibility combinations. I tried running it as admin. I tried installing it as admin. I must be missing something or it is one of those games that you just can't play on Windows 7. Any ideas? or do I just forget it. It was a cool game and I don't care how good the graphics are, I just want it to run if it's possible. Thanks

Hello Guys,

I'm having problems getting my router to work on multiple systems. For example, I can get the laptop to work on the wireless router but nothing else will work. We have a NetGear Wireless Router. Please help. Thank you.

A:Problem connecting game systems/computers to router

Please do this with that working laptop.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

i know these games arent THAT old... as i played them in windows 7 64bit, before i downgraded to XP so i could use XP in parallels... i will say no more about that.

anywAYS... the games are Unreal, and Unreal Tournament. and they run TOO fast, like 150-200% of what they should be running at. if i adjust the game speed, that helps, but then slows it down waaaay too much, until a guy shoots at me, then it immediately speeds up again, im dead, and then it slows. lol. seems like that anyway. here are my specs.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 2.8GHz
Geforce 7900 GS 256MB PCI-E
4GB 800MHz DDR-2
on-board 5.1 hardware surround sound
500GB SATA Western Digital (a Unix-based OS installed, its against forum rules to specify which one)
120GB IDE Maxtor (windows XP)

unreal tournament 2004, and unreal 2 run perfectly, however these older games run TOO fast. i know theres a way to turn off one of the cores of the processor, but i have the unreal anthology. how would i turn off the extra core for the all in one games?

A:question regarding older game titles on newer hardware too fast

I am having the same recurring problem with my FIOS.

My smartphones, tablets, ipods, video game systems will all connect to wifi but my laptops wont. This happens every once in a while but is happening more and more frequently.

Also when my family comes over with their wireless devices for some reason theirs will connect but mine won't(ie. them coming over with all their devices kicks me off and allows them on instead).

both of the laptops are running win7.

sometimes this also happens and I can connect I just get the no internet connection message and can't do anything.

@Jeff1017 If by "hardwiring" the two PCs together, you mean using a crossover network cable to connect the two, that only overcomes the issue of using a USB stick. You still need third-party software to transfer settings and/or apps -- as that information is stored in lots of different places and it would take you forever to find them all manually and copy them.
