I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: resolution in games vs desktop resolution

Press the buttons in-front of your monitor and stretch the screen until it's full.
Otherwise, you can set your games to 1152x864 if your graphic card if powerful enough.

Ok - First off Im using a 32" Dynex TV as a monitor, hooked in through a VGA port on the TV. When I start my computer the screen jumps around and it says 'detecting signal', settles on 640x480 during boot When windows 7 starts to open it jumps again for a moment and goes to 1366x768 (the right setting for it) I was playing Metro 2033 and its too slow in 1366 so I reduced it to 1024x768 which apparently the TV cant do, it just went black, so it reset to 1366. I was trying various resolutions, some were too wide too skinny etc and accidentally clicked on 1024 again, screen went black and this time didnt revert. I restarted my computer and now after the 640 phase in boot it doesnt go to 1366 like it should but at the opening to windows 7 where you put in your password it switches to 1024, after it jumps to adjust a few times it goes black like in the game.. it tells me detecting signal (normal) then no signal detected (which is what it tells me if I have it on say component 1 with my xbox 360 turned off, or video 1 with my dvd player off, or even VGA with the computer off for that matter)

What Ive tried:
I tried turning the monitor off and on to see if I could adjust the settings back while it was adjusting before going black, but it just stays black...

I started up in safe mode, which was 800x600 and it was ugly but worked, I tried resetting the resolution but it only gave the base options (640, 800, 1024, 1280) and that was only for safe mode, it didnt hold when I ... Read more

A:monitor resolution issue - can I change my resolution from outside windows??

does the Nvidia card have any software which could manage screen resolutions? If so you can try that in safe mode....

Also, tap F8 on startup, but instead of safe mode chose "enable VGA mode" which should cause windows to boot normally, but in 800x600 (or something of the like, that just about all monitors and TV's support)

I have a Sceptre 32-Inch LCD TV (X322BV) and I use an ASUS GeForce 440 video card. I am connected to the TV using a top of the line HDMI cable that has ethernet built in. I was using this cable to connect my computer to the TV and it displayed fine at 1360x768. This was great for my games and all other programs I was using. I attempted to install a new game called Metro 2033 and when I launched the game, it must have detected that my system is really good and set to display the resolution in 1080p. Now my TV does not support this display and now won't show anything except in safe mode, where the resolution is set to 1024x768. I am just not sure of how to get the computer to now NOT display in 1080p when I boot up windows normally. I have tried using the F8 menu to reset the resolution and everything. I am a competent computer tech who has much knowledge. However, I am just not sure how to change a resolution when you can't even see the screen and you can't see the screen because you can't change the resolution. It's a catch-22. I will never understand engineers or programmers in the least. PLEASE HELP! I have even hooked it up to a 1080p TV and turned the resolution down but when I hook it back up to the 720p TV the settings are still set at 1080p for some reason. It's like whatever display it's connected to, that's what settings it's going to use automatically. I am just out of options except for a re-format. PLEASE HELP!

A:Resolution stuck at 1080p; Resolution changed by game

Before I re-install the OS I would try this:
Boot up in Safe Mode and log in with an Admin account.
Uninstall the Device and Driver for the Video Card (see link below).
Re-boot in Normal mode, and Windows should detect and re-install the device.
Go from there to update the driver as needed.

If that one game is the problem, I'd uninstall it or search for answers how to configure it to not cause the problem.

I also suggest learning System Backup Imaging, so going forward you can easily recover from problems without re-installing the OS and all programs.

Hi. I'm new here and this is my first post. I looked around a little and found one other thread with a similar question, but the question wasn't really answered. I can't find anything on the net that doesn't confuse me so bad it makes my head hurt, so I thought I'd try asking here. Thanks in advance for any answers I get.

I will try and be as thorough as possible, although the resulting question will be simple. I'll start out with why I am asking the question to begin with.

So I am trying to play a game I used to play nearly ten years ago. It's a free online game called Continuum/Subspace and there are user created "zones" or variations of the game within the game (if that makes sense). I play in a zone called Trench Wars. It's a top down game, meaning you are looking down at your ship as if from above and the screen scrolls as you move to reveal more of the area (map) you are playing in. You are in a spaceship of your choice with varying weapons for each ship. The game requires aiming at your enemies before firing at them and anticipating their moves.

Well I noticed that playing at a higher resolution allows you to see more of your immediate area and expands your view of the map. It works just like your desktop in essence. The higher the resolution, the smaller the icons, but the more space you have. In the game, the higher the resolution, the smaller the ships are, but you can see more space around you. Obviously, this would give an advantage to anyone playing ... Read more

A:Forcing Screen Resolution Higher Than Native Resolution

Simple answer is: you can not go over the native resolution of LCD panel because its physical thing for each pixel lcd panel has a cell you can not have more pixels than there is physical pixels in that panel.

smaller than native resolutions achieved by grouping more than one cell to form pixel thats why non native resolution on lcd sometimes gets blurry or edgy

Native Resolution for my monitor is 1366 x 768. It's a 32 inch computer monitor. The reason for buying bigger screen for the computer is so that I can have more desktop display area so that I don't have to scroll horizontally to have a clear helicopter view of my subject.

Only then I was made to understand that I am actually restricted by the monitor resolution and hence though my graphic card can support higher resolution, it won't work. So my problem right now is setting the graphic card with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 is giving me blurry images and text. The desktop display area is wide enough to satisfy my need but the blurring object is not acceptable.

My general question would be:
If the graphic card higher resolution doesn't help because it does not match the monitor, is there any smart software that can give me more desktop area with clarity given that resolution constraint? What other alternatives do I have without getting rid of my new monitor?

A:Graphic Card Resolution > Monitor Resolution

What graphics card do you have? Sounds like it is not powerful enough to fill the resolution you are looking for.

Is there any way to create a custom resolution on my laptop or monitor of 1280 x 1024? Our monitors don't have this resolution listed in the display settings, or is this a driver issue?

Cheers,

I can resolve the problem by changing the resolution, but don't wish to change the resolution back and forth whenever I play a game or quit playing the game. I can use the compatibility wizard and permanently set the resolution to 640 x 480 for the games, but this is too large and fuzzy. Is there anyway to change the permanent resolution in the compatibility wizard so that these games automatically open in a more desirable resolution? Thank you in advance.

Hi,
I have an AMD Radeon HD 6770 Graphic card, and in most games, textures have horrible resolutions. I have a decent card and can run games like CS:GO at 60 fps, but, no matter how old the game is (it happens in bf1942 as well), textures look terribly bad. This didn't happen at first, and it generally doens't happen the first time I run a game after installing it. It begins to happen after a few days (sometimes even months). I notice no overheating; I sincerely doubt the problem is hardware related.
What I have noticed is that the problem is not to be seen in all Windows profiles. CS:GO looked terrible in my personal profile, but when I ran it in another profile it worked flawlessly. I remember the same had happened in NFS Hot Pursuit (2010); it looked realy bad in my brother's profile, but looked perfectly fine in my profile. After a while, however, it began to look bad in my profile as well.
What can I do? I think it might be related to AMD Catalyst's configuration, but I'm not really sure. I attached some screenshots in which the difference is clear.
Here everything looks accetpable
And here you can see how bad textures look:

A:Low resolution textures on most games

Hi,

Check your Catalyst Control Center's 3D application settings (under Gaming), and see if you've got Morphological filtering turned on. If it is, turn it off and see what happens. I had it turned on at one point and it blurred every game I own. The textures were awful.

Good afternoon people,

I really hope someone can help me out on this. I've recently upgraded from Windows XP to Vista, woohooo, or so i thought. Since the upgrade none of the games i install and play will let me choose a screen resolution. I can change the desktop resolution, no problem, however games won't even list resolutions or refresh rates. I can still play the games, and i gather i'm playing them at the same resolution as the desktop. This wouldn't be such a problem if i wasn't using a normal CRT TV as a monitor. Because i'm using this TV i can only make out text if games are set to a lower resolution.

I hope i'm making sense so far!!

I've tried a number of things, uninstalled and re-install my GFX card, downloaded the latest Vista updates including SP1, updated Catalyst but nothing changes. I'm guessing it could have something to do with Vista not detecting the TV as a mointor or something but there's no way to find out as i don't have a spare monitor to check it out on, not one with a DVI port on it anyway.

with that card you can probably set it above 1600x1200 but that would probably look the best that i can handle, about refresh rate i'm not sure, but you should worry about nothing for about a year, and get the highest resolution possible, however higher resolutions not only make the game look schweet, they make your menu screens tiny, i stay at around 1024x768, and refresh rate, well you should configure that to the highest possible, however that will make your screen get smaller, and you will have to increase the size of it, you must also increase the refresh rate on your video card settings, and i would like to know what game you are talking about, how much ram you have, and how fast your proccesor is...

I switched on my computer yesterday to find that my screen had 2 black borders above and below which was odd, so I tried auto-adjusting my monitor, which didnt solve the problem it stayed the same, I went into the Nvidia CP to reposition the screen and I could only move to replace the border on the bottom of the screen, the top was permanent, any way I solved this problem by adding custom resolutions on both the NCP and Vista properties only to fire up PES 2010, and find it was in 1600x1024, I looked in the PES 2010 settings to find that my native resolution (1680x1050) was not in the list, I also tried COD MW2 and Half Life 2 Ep2 and they also cannot display this resolution, only resolutions that a usual 16:9 monitor can.
1680x1050 is my native resolution and i have been using it for 2 years on 4 different computers including this one so what could the problem be?
It would be great if I could find the problem and not have to resort to manually changing the resolution on all my games in future.

I reinstalled the card manufacturer drivers and it still had the same problem, everything is at the right resolution but the moment I start up a game it cannot go onto the native resolution.

Any help would be appreciated thanks anyone

After playing a fullscreen game, my resolution stuffs up. I normally have it on 1440x900 but after playing a game the top and bottom edges come off (pressing "auto" on my monitor normally fixes this kind of problem but it doesn't with this) and it has a kind of blur effect that's hard to explain, kind of like 1 in 5 pixels are missing or something.

I don't recall doing anything that could've triggered it, when it first happened I was trying to get F.E.A.R Combat to work, I changed it's resolution to 1152x864 as well as my monitor's but when I got out of it the computer was acting funny, also when I go into the menu on my monitor it says it's in 1152x864 mode.

I can to a temporary fix by changing the resolution from 1440x900 (which my display options says it's already on; contrary to my monitor) to something else and back again about ten times until it decides to work but I play alot of games so I was hoping there was a proper solution.

Thanks heaps for your help,

Hey. I recently upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate x86 and I'm not regretting it in the least?the OS is amazing. However, I have been experiencing an issue when gaming.

I run a dual monitor setup with one being a Samsung 2253LW and the other being an HP vs17?their native resolutions are 1680x1050 and 1280x1024. On XP, all games ran in windowed mode at my Samsung's native resolution just fine. The vs17 would have conversation windows open and such while the widescreen held the game at full resolution, keeping the borders off the screen as much as possible.

After upgrading, most games no longer run like this without error. The resolution of 1680x1050 is perfectly selectable, but they're a few dozen pixels off height wise and the mouse cursor is rendered a few pixels below where it actually is.

I've tried a number of things, such as running with the basic theme, trying all compatibility options, reinstalling and uninstalling drivers, et cetera. The games are displayed fine when running at a windowed resolution which isn't my native one.

Any ideas?

Here's one example. You can see the window border at the bottom?the other three sides of it have been moved just out of view.

Here's another. The border is larger this time for some reason. Sometimes in this game, the bottom few pixels or so get 'stuck' and render a frozen image from the menu throughout gameplay, causing the resolution to shrink even more.

EDIT: Sorry, I somehow managed to post this in the wrong section. I meant to ... Read more

A:Video resolution messes up during games

You need to check what refresh rates the monitor uses at different resolutions and compare that to what refresh rates the graphics card uses at those resolutions.
Also, is the graphics card fairly new? And has it had any similar problems in the past?

I have recently bought Command & Conquer : First Decade. C&C Red Alert was one of my favourite games on an older PC. The game was originally designed for Win95/Win98 but under the "First Decade" umbrella all games are compatible with Windows XP.

On my PC the game works in full screen but on my laptop there is a large wide gap on all sides of the screen. I have tried changing screen resolutions within my display properties and within the Intel Graphics properties but although the screen size changes for my desktop the game screen doesn't change from about half size.

I have updated my graphics driver and the problem still remains. I noticed on another thread that a solution was found(with a NVIDIA graphics card) by ...."use display adapter scaling" instead of "use center output". I don't have such a setting on my Intel card.

I recently had a problem with my games (found in the thread here) that involved the games lagging badly. It turned out to be an image settings preference that I hadn't set properly. In my attempt to fix the problem however I did a clean install of drivers and updated to v301.42.

Since I installed the new driver none of my games would start (NBA 2K12, Assassin's Creed, Skyrim etc.) and simply go to a black windowed screen. Skyrim tells me that 'Your display doesn't support the selected resolution'. However, I am using the native resolution (1680x1050) for my monitor.

Has anyone got any ideas as to why this might be happening and/or how I could go about fixing it?

A:Resolution not set properly, unable to play games

Hello once again JaidynM,

Can you try lowering the resolution of your monitor to non-native temporarily to test out a hypothesis i have?

Try setting the resolution to 1280x800 or 1280x720 (next 16:10/16:9 resolution on your list i presume), and running the affected games again?

Also for Skyrim, If you do not have any custom Skyrim.ini or custom SkyrimPrefs.ini files (ones you've modified personally, line by line and do not wish to delete), could you try to back them up and then delete them from your Documents/My Games/Skyrim folder to allow the game to generate fresh ones for your newly minted drivers?

After doing so, run the launcher again, let the game auto-detect your hardware and and run the game again..

Give it a shot and holler back...

EDIT:- How about other 3D based software like benchmarks (Unigine Heaven) or Furmark? Do they run with the same errors?

http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/

http://unigine.com/products/heaven/

Also with Skyrim, try running it in windowed mode as an experiment?

I have installed my Big Fish games my Dell Studio 1737 Laptop. My resolution is set at 1920 x 1200; however, when the games start up they only open at a resolution of 1024 x 768. All of the games do this. I have tried changing my resolution to all the options I have and none of them work. The games will not open to the full 1920 x 1200 or anything greater than 1024 x 768.

These games work fine on my desktop.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Well for one your using a kinda old laptop.
2 if your using vista it could be the problem but as long as the game works,

So i have a Monitor that is capable of using way higher resolutions that it is letting me to use since i updated the drivers.

current: 1600 * 1200
Should be able to do : 1920 by 1440

MY graphics card is a Nvida 8800 GT - Alpha dog edition, and can do much more than that

What ways would there be to increase my max resolution, not just for desktop use but for gaming use as well.

Examples: Registry? Create a driver somehow?

Hi,
i'm a bit confused with the resolution of my screen. I'm using a lenovo y700, and according to the screen settings i'm using 1920x1080. Yet with some games (witcher 3) my screen is not big enough to display the image entirely However i can play Overwatch and far cry 3 on 1920x1080. According to various websites my screen resolution is actually 1536x864. I have updated my drivers, but that didn't change anything. Anyone here who can help me out?

A:Unable to play games on 1920x1080 resolution

It could be the design of the Website not your resolution.

Hi everybody, I had this very annoying problem, and maybe someone knows a solution.

Everytime I play a fullscreen game, and I stop, the following happens:
When my screen goes black (to save energy, I don't have a screensaver), and when I hit a key to light my screen up again, the resolution has changed. The resolution my pc jumps to varies with the games I play, for instance, when I play Super Smash Bros (on a Nintendo 64 emulator), the resolution is set to its lowest (800x600), and when playing Braid, it jumps to 1280x768 pixels. A list of my screen resolutions:

800x600
1024x768
1280x720
1280x768
1360x768
1366x768

Is there any way to solve this problem? Because everytime I reset the resolution to 1366x768, the icons on my Desktop have changed places, this is really annoying.

Thanks in advance!

A:Fullscreen games effect screen resolution

For some users, this problem relates to a driver bug (primarily for NV cards). Though nv has never officially released a patch or something. Some report that the problem could be solved by reinstall the graphics driver if ur lucky enough.

Nevertheless to mention there's some opportunity that it's caused by system software interference. That is, some of your system related software interfere with each other and ultimately bring damage to your OS.

Sadly, there's no absolutely viable solution (except reinstalling your Vista) yet.

For the icon rearrangement issue, there're some software that manages your desktop themes can help u "remember" the icons' original locations. I cant really recall their names. U can search for some.

Hey, recently i got a brand new GTX 1050 ti, and i knew it wouldn't have a VGA connector, so i purchased HDMI to VGA. I just installed the graphics card and installed its drivers everything. drivers seem to be working fine but max resolution is 1024x768, i even restarted the PC and tried reinstalling the graphics driver multiple times. But i'm still thinking it might be because of the HDMI to VGA adapter's fault

What are your thoughts about this?

Hello,

I have recently changed to a 1280x1024 LCD and I love it so far. However it does have a fixed amout of pixels, and there's nothing you can do about it.
I have some older games that I love, but they use a lower resolution. When played on an LCD the quality is pretty much unacceptable for me. I can bearly read any texts.
I thought there is maybe some way/program that can do the following:
Instead of resizing the image and making it unreadable, use only say 800x600 pixels in the middle of the screen and leave the other black, so I would have black stripes on the bottom left right and top and use only the middle for my game, which will make it the size it's ment to be.

Does anyone know of a way to achieve this?
I'd be very greatfull,
Kuba.

When playing lower-resolution games that use full-screen mode on my Windows 7 Professional X64 will not play without serious color glitches. It flickers and the colors are all completely messed up. I have a Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX Integrated RAMDAC video card that is updated with the latest drivers. My monitor is a Hanns-G 28" wide-screen and is up-to-date as well.

It is SO irritating to not be able to let my kids play these old games.

I have had success disabling the "explorer.exe" in the task manager, but ONLY when playing the Age of Empires 2: Conqueror's Expansion. This method has not yet worked for any other game.

My old Myst games from Cyan and a bunch of others refuse to be clear enough to play and enjoy.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

A:Trouble w/graphics for games that use lower resolution in FULLSCREEN

Mengis,

Welcome to Sevenforums to you!

I will be providing you with links that you may click that lead to a tutorial part of this website for a how-to.

Make sure you have windows completely updated, along with every one of the games. Also, make sure your drivers are updated, especially your graphics driver. If you'd like me to find the appropriate one for you and a how-to, fill out your system specs with this tool.

Try putting your game into compatability mode: Compatibility Mode

Failing that, lower your graphics resolution and settings through your graphics control panel. If you'd like more of an explaination, please ask.

It is unusual, but some antiviruses may get in the way of the game. While I don't recommend disabling a much needed antivirus while connected to the internet, you might try it as a test. What antivirus do you use? I can offer recommendations based on how well your antivirus performs according to my experience, if you would like.

To more easily find drivers compatable with your computer, you can set windows to find them auatomatically: Compatibility Mode. Then you can check for updates and see if there are any "optional" drivers available to you.

Sound lik you need to uninstall the video driver, install your mothrboard drivers so

Lack of an AGP driver is forcing the video card to run in PCI mode.

Anyone know how to lock the desktop resolution? We use objectbar here to let our customers only get what they need but when a kid plays a game, it sets the desktop resolution to 800 x 600 which screws up the objectbar skin.

Anyone know how to do this? I was told there is a setting in group policy in active directory but I cant find it

Hey guys, I've recently been encountering BSOD while playing graphically intensive games such as World of Tanks in 4k resolution. I thought it might be a temperature issue, so I manually turned up my GPU fan speed to 90% while playing, and my core temp. remained ~50?C. That didnt seem to fix the issue.

My last crash gave me the ol' Stop: 0x00000124

Here is my zip file containing the results of a DM Log Collector.

Edit: My system specs are:
CPU: i7-4790K @ 4.00GHz
MB: ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97
GPU: EVGA NVIDIA GForce GTX 780Ti
RAM: 16Gb G.Skill Trident X @ 2400Mhz
OS: Win7
PSU: EVGA 1000P2

A:BSOD playing games in 4k resolution such as World of Tanks 0x00000124

It seems to be overclocked.

Code:
CPUID: "Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz"
MaxSpeed: 4000
CurrentSpeed: 4080
And overclocking is one of the most frequent reasons of a stop 0x124 (though not the only reason).

As you are experiencing BSODs, As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings. Then see if it still causing the same BSOD or not. If the BSOD continues to occur, let us know. We will take further attempts to troubleshoot the issue.
