I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

It's very annoying. I've checked the RAM, updated drivers and checked to see if my BIOS is up to date and they all check out. It could still be faulty RAM but i'm not sure. I think it has to do with my video card driver, it started happening after I updated the drivers for it.

Any help would be appreciated, thx.

A:Comp freezes and gets BSOD

your graphics drivers are incorrect or not up to date and /or your BIOS is not the latest or set right for your graphics card.

ATI cards are known to be flakey. Update your drivers.

Hi, I'm desperate for help! The problem has gone from bad to worse now!
I am not very comp savvy, and hope that someone will be able to help me. I've had this problem for more than a month now, and a comp tech came and 'fixed' it, but it came back!

When I am on the comp normally, on the internet, using Word, etc. it's all fine. The problem only starts when I try to play a dvd. Sometimes, it will play for a little while and then I hear a 'click' sound and the comp freezes. I would have to press the restart button for it to do anything.
Other times, as soon as the DVD drive starts to load a dvd, a 'click' sound is heard, and it freezes.
Sometimes, the same happens as above, and the BLUE SCREEN shows up- says something about memory dump...

I don't know what to do! I've tried using a different programs to load the DVD, e.g. Power DVD, Windows Media Player, AVI... don't think it makes a difference now! (When I changed from Power DVD to WMP it worked for a week or so, then it started all over again! )

This problem started when I still had my old DVD drive, which was 8X and now I have a 16X. At first it was all fine, but a couple of weeks later it started again!

What is wrong and if I have to get new parts, what would I need? (Don't know if I should believe that comp tech who 'fixed' my problem anymore!)

A:Comp Freezes, sometimes BSOD when DVD loads

First of all, playing DVD's/CD's while on-line is going to slow the system down to a crawl and can lock it up. Even running an Anti Virus while on-line can slow the system down a lot. When you use a program that uses a lot of resources and then a DVD/CD that uses a lot of resources it just isn't going to happen. What are your PC specs? How much Memory and what is the speed of the CPU?

Hello, I recently made a post in the Windows tech support forum and was directed here for my issue. Here is what I had written as a summary in the other post:

Greetings,

While using my computer for some "private" time, my roommate said he saw a pop-up with an .exe extension, Java started opening, and then the computer froze completely. Since then, I had been getting a STOP 0x0000007f error. After some searching, I found that one of the potential culprits was Symantec A/V, so after booting into Safemode and manually uninstalling Symantec the bluescreen has been fixed.

Only, my computer is still thoroughly messed up. Whenever I boot into regular Windows, it freezes in stages (i.e., one window will freeze, then the next will, and finally the mouse cursor will freeze) after only 30 or so seconds. It also happens in Safemode occasionally.

Aside from the Java/.exe pop-up, the only recent hardware changes I have made have been a new video card roughly a month ago, and a new printer about a week and a half-two weeks ago. However, I have been getting 'Found New Hardware' pop-ups upon entering Windows for a device 'unknown' that won't quit.

I've run a few Antivirus and Malware programs (Stinger initially picked up two viruses that have been deleted, unfortunately I did not note the virii type or locations) and performed a chkdsk /f with no problems.

I'm running:
XP Pro SP3
2.20 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
3072 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory

My computer is rebooting and freezing A LOT. Like every 30 minutes, sometimes more, sometimes.. I ran Memtest 4.0 for 10 hours overnight and received no errors. Did a system file check, everything seems fine. I got blue screens 4 or 5 times, but the rest of the time it just freezes.

Now, the weird thing is that it can run for EVER if I'm playing a full screen game like Star Craft or Call of Duty, but as soon as I close the games it crashes. I can't get any work done!

Also, I tried clean boot but it still crashed. I did not crash on Safe Mode for over two hours.

Hey everyone,

I did my first build a while ago but kept getting the Blue Screen of Death. I got a tech guy in to look at how I built it, do mem tests and hard drive tests and he said that the motherboard must be faulty. I then sent the motherboard back and they gave me a replacement.

I now have put it back together and am STILL getting BSOD's or my screen just freezes. It can run for quite a while without crashing if I am just using facebook or just cruising the web but when I start using skype or play games or have a few different programs open it is more likely to crash. However it does crash even when I am just using Chrome.

At this point in time I think it could be a compatibility problem with some hardware I'm using otherwise I am just over the crashing and really need any help I can get!! Thanks

Here are my computers specs

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Any ideas on what I can do is appreciated!!

Hello guys, im kinda new on this forum, so ill just describe my problem and what i've tried so far, all comments/advices are appreciated!

Whats happening:

So about in the March of 2014, ive started to experience system freezes, a few times a week. That means, the last moment shows on the monitor, but no keyboard or mouse reaction, nor mashed screen, only annoying BZZZZZ voice from the speakers till hard reset.

When:

Mostly when playing games, mostly because i only play games or do programming and stuff. Also happened after a simple boot, watching a youtube video. Sometimes once in 2 weeks, sometimes 2 times a day, but the weird thing is i do almost the same thing these days.

What I've tried so far:

Ran a bunch of test: 3D mark, fur mark, prime95, video memory test, memtest86, etc. ran them a couple of times, for hours, none of them produced errors or crashes, BSODs. Did 2-3 times clean windows reinstall with necessary drivers, updated drivers, updated BIOS, no luck. Also tried to swap ram modules, and use only 1, use in different slots, still no luck. Been in comp service, they did some tests too, tested the PSU, cleaned the PC, still getting the lockups. Also used AIDA64 to monitor and log temps for weeks, nothing bad with them, even seconds before the crashes. Resetted the BIOS to default a few times, im no overclocking and the sad thing is that when the first lockup occured i dont remember installing anything other than World of Warcraft, n... Read more

Around 10 months ago, I built my first computer.
Everything was going well, no errors whatsover.
However around 3-6 months later (no sure exactly), In noticed that when I played games, it all depended on the game, the computer would freeze.

Back then I was using a AOC 2047 monitor which when it would freeze caused a large buzzing noise. Now the freezes are the same, but without the noise as i switched to a Dell Monitor.

Help me, I can't play some games due to this issue.

My Build is as following:

GA-990fxa-UD3 CPU
ATI Radeon 6970 2GB
G.Skill (2x4GB) 8GB Ram (F3-12800CL9D-8GBDRL)
Antec VP650P 650W PSU
X- FI audio card (added after freezing to solve audio static in headphones (on board sound)
2TB HDD
500 GB HDD

Bluray LG - dvd drive

Thankyou.

All the games i play freeze as random,

but recently after playing GW2 (guild wars 2)
it freezes ever 20 minutes.

Thankyou for your time and effort.

-Last thoughts-->

I have looked throughly through many forums and posts and could not find a answer. This is why im posting my issue now.

Also i have already ran Memtest for 10 hours, and this has proven to have no errors, so im sure it is not bad memeory.

Any thoughts ?

Hi,

Check the performance in safe mode/ Safe mode with networking. Check if the antivirus software has detected any virus/ malware/ spyware, if yes proceed with the Antivirus/Spyware/Malware troubleshooting.
Try running the below mentioned troubleshooters which could fix the problem:http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9740820

A:Warning beeps and no boot from comp.

Hi Sam, and welcome to TSG.

Do you have a user manual for the motherboard? if so, it should explain the beeping POST codes.

If you can't find the codes in the manual, then according to this page, the Nvidia ep-8rda3i motherboard should be using AwardBIOS.

According to this page, the Award BIOS only has different failure beeps for the video controller or RAM.

This comp is pretty old, and is used by my daughter and granddaughter. I started into repeated reboots a couple of months ago, but I was just told about it. I cleaned out the machine and video card, both were VERY dusty, and I got the machine running while it was set up in my dining room where work on them. It was running fine, but when I returned it to my daughters room, it now is rebooting as soon as I log into her desktop. I realized that I had the side door off when testing in the other room, and taking the side door off has stopped the rebooting.
So it is a heat problem, for sure. Problem is, this machine is so old, HWMonitor cannot read temps from the processor. I have temps from the HD and Video card, but am not sure if the overheating is from processor or other components.
I have attached the .zip file with the info on the machine and the minidumps, but it looks like the recent reboots did not record a dump.
I would appreciate any help you can give me, if the dumps give any indication of the source of the overheating. Taking the machine apart is difficult for personal reasons, but I will remove the processor and replace the heat paste if needed. The heat sink is a ZALMAN CNPS 7500 Cu.
And before you all start yelling about replacing the computer, I just can't right now. I am working on an upgrade, but my granddaughter misses her games, and the upgrade is gonna take a while.
Thanks

AMD Athlon XP 1.6ghz
768MB PC2100 RAM
Ge-Force FX 5700 Ultra 128MB
Win XP
400 watt power supply
Asus A7V333-X Motherboard

I have all the latest drivers for my vid card and MB.

My Hard drive is an FAT32(it's been partitioned into 2 drives). My main drive is my C: Which is only like 18gb, not nearly enough for my games. My other drive is 55gb which is where i have my games installed. I "think" this might be the problem but i don't know why it would be. My 2 other games run fine when installed in my D drive. Which is Conquer online(1.5gb) and Continuum(like 5mb).

Welcome to the forums,

Firstly you might like to follow the tip here :

http://www.tweakxp.com/tweak433.aspx

To diasble the default setting whereby XP will just reboot on encountering certain errors. That way the next time it occurs you will get the 'Blue Screen' with an error message. You can then either post the message here / or run a Google search for other people who have reported the same error previously.

Just for info - I had the same situation some months ago. The error thrown up suggested it was related to a graphics driver problem - Google searches for the error (nv4_disp.dll) took me to sites where others were recommended to experiment with other drivers. However in my case it was related to a faulty stick of ram (I had 2 x 256mb).

Switching the ram around did not correct the problem - however with them each in place individually, I found the system would not boot with one of them.

As you state you have 768 mb, I am assuming you have 512 + 256. You might try the above if only to rule it out.

I have tried a few games out on my new comp but not long into playing a few of them they just shut my computer down and crash. The game becomes extremely laggy and then just shuts off after a few minutes of playing time.

Games that crash my comp: Medal of Honor Airborne, Mafia II so far.

Empire total war works which is wierd it seems that high action FPS games seem to choke up and kill the comp.

I have a intel Core 2 Quad CPU @ 2.66 Ghz
Windows home premium 64 bit
8.00 Gig Ram
ATI Radeon HD 4600

I really dont know what to do I would really like to play these games.

Thanks for any insight.

Edit: Well i can add Call of duty Black ops to that list of games that crash my comp. Call of duty actually runs great on my system but the in the second mission the computer reboots.

I have re-installed the catalyst drivers and the directx, also the physx as well.

Im stumped i just got this comp back from repairs.

A:Games crashing/rebooting comp

Maybe it's software related?...I myself have a certain driver for some software on my computer that crashes games like Sims 2, Microsoft flight sim and more...It kept coming up with the BSOD and it took me awile to find the little bugger.

I suppose you could try killing what you know you won't need in the bottom left taskbar. That's how i got round it anyway.

Alright guys...Windows XP machine that is used as a server for Peachtree, Timeclock functions, and internet connection for 4 other computers. The problem started when the computer began to blue screen with "IRQ LESS" yada yada...with no particular file in the error message. The computer would obvisiouly reboot and would come up with the "Your computer has recovered from a serious error" To stop this message I downloaded the patch from MS and turned off the reboot option in the control panel. It was only happening when I was only so I changed out my dial up modem and upgraded to SP2.

I was working fine for 8 hours and then bam..reboots..this time with no errors. Turned it back on...20 mins later..reboots. Turn it back on and now it reboots every 2 mins. Im not at the office right now so I cant test it...but would this be to overheating? PSU? CPU? MoBo? I tested at home and the temp never went above 49...but maybe its the heat rising as other computers are using it through the network? Maybe its the PSU? Its a Compaq computer..2 years old...256MB and a p4 1.8 cpu.

How should I go about troubleshooting for MINIMAL costs?
Thanks

Welcome to TSF.

We will need to run an External Virus scan.

I notice that you have two anti-virus programs on your machine. That's not a good idea!!
Alike firewalls, anti-virus programs have conflicts co-existing with each other & may produce undesirable results. Please uninstall one of them.

Download and install CleanUp!. Do NOT run it yet.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following:Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users
Click on the “Temporary Files” and uncheck the box for “Scan drives for file matching” if it’s checked.

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.

WARNING - CleanUp! will delete all files and folders contained within Temporary Directories. If you knowingly have items you would like to keep that are stored in these locations; Move Them Now!!!

Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component. The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to: Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:Extended... Read more

I have been reading on different sites to download different anti-spyware programs. Right now I have:

2. Spybot
3. IE Spyad w/ Zoned Out
4. PC pitstop driver alert
5. Spyware Blaster
6. ATF Cleaner
7. PC Pitstop Driver Alert
8. Hosts Xpert

Will these slow down my system, or make it take longer to shut down and restart my comp? Is there anything on this list that I should not have? If it's not a big deal, does anyone recommend any more apps I should download or things to do to make my system better?

If I install almost all of the reputable spyware removers and system optimizers, etc. on my comp, will it slow down my system? Will there be any negative consequences?

Right now I would opt for a faster computer over a secure one, so I would prefer speed over an increased possibility of a virus, etc (still want an anti-virus though). I'd like my comp to shut down and restart quickly, but of course it's not that big of a deal.

With that in mind...I was wondering what the computer "gurus" think is the best way I can optimize my computer? If you have a lot of experience, then what would/do you do, and what do you download for your comp? What programs should I download or buy? A:Newbie questions. Will anti-spyware, etc. slow down comp? Best way to optimize comp?

As a rule, you use:
1 firewall
1 antivirus
* Norton is not the best program around, and it's a resource hog, but since you bought it, you'll have to live with it until it expires.
* Using more then one of each is asking for problems (conflict).
As for antispyware programs, you can have as many, as you want, however, I wouldn't use more then 2 as startups, since you want fast computer.
Your computer specs look very good, but the lower number of startups, the better (this is another thing to check).
As for antispyware, I'd keep Spyware Blaster as a startup program, and I'd add a-squared: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/
You may want to run others, you have once in a while, or when any problem arises.

In addition, you want to keep your computer clean of garbage, and for that purpose, you want to get CCleaner: www.ccleaner.com

Once a month, you want to run defrag. I recommend free jkDefrag: http://www.kessels.com/JkDefrag/ instead of Windows defrag.

That's about it. If you have more questions, please, ask.

Ok well i know i have my network set up because a) i went through the XP computer, and The 98SE computer is getting an internet connection and finally C) because the XP can connect to the 98SE but not visa versa

Now every time im on the 98SE computer and i try to connect to the XP comp i get this "Resource: \\MAIN\IPC$" Then its askin for a password, ive tried every single password ive known it wotn connect, i have even made an account exactly the same as the 98SE computer on the XP computer. IE (this is true) The windows 98SE computer has a username of Default and password - nothing. So i went to the XP connection, i made an account named Default and in the password field put nothing. I dont know what else to do ive tried everything plz help soon!!!

I've got an annoying problem I'm trying to smooth out. On my 3-computer LAN, I've got network shares set up on all three comps. (Not homegroup; not public folders; those aren't workable for my situation.)

On my main work computer ("Comp A") (Win 7 Home Premium), whenever I open the sharelist on either "B" or "C", I have the extreme pleasure of waiting 8-10 seconds before the shares on the requested machine are presented.

Other than that, the shares work perfectly, except for the annoying delay every time I want to use Comp A to open the list of shares on Comp B or Comp C.

What I'm sharing: My user directory on each comp. (I'm the only user on this 3-node LAN.) Sharing with Homegroup or Public Folders isn't feasible.

When the delay happens: Courtesy of Wireshark, I've learned that when the delay occurs, it occurs after "Negotiate Protocol Response" and before "Session Setup Request".

I'm also getting the same delay behavior on one other computer (Comp C), but only when accessing the share list Comp A. Here's the specific run-down...

Computer A
Windows 7 Home Premium
Hard-Wired
8-second delay opening shares on Comp B and Comp C.
Computer B
Windows 7 Ultimate
Hard-wired
No delay opening shares on Comp A or Comp C
Computer C
Windows 7 Ultimate
Wi-fi
8-second delay opening shares on Comp A (Home Prem.) but *not* Comp B (Ult.)
I'd really appreciate any troubleshooting suggestions. End result: When I click a computer to ... Read more

I want to be able to print from my XP Computer to the Vista computer in the other room, wirelessly.

XP Home
Vista Home Premium
New, Shared Printer

Printer on the Vista computer is "shared"...I don't know anything about networks
I use control panel: "add a printer" -> "A network printer" -> "Browse for printers" -> it shows some sort of window with icons that don't really mean much to me:

One category is called "Workgroup" and when I click it, the Vista name of the computer in the other room shows up, but nothing happens when I double click that. I connected to a wireless printer a long time ago this way when one was connected to an XP computer, and the actual name of the printer would show up.

Does anyone know how to do it?

I recently set up a workgroup called "workgroup" so that my two PC's could share files.

The XP comp is called Qing, and can access the workgroup and log onto the linux server called Han (running Fedora 6 with Samba) . Once logged onto Han from Qing, I can see the shared folder, but when i try to access it I get the following message:

"\\Han\share is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found."

On Han, the linux comp, I have set up a shared folder called "share" with full permissions.
I have enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP and rebooted and still no luck,
I have searched the internet and these forums for a similar problem but was unable to find anything that I could use.

Any help would be great!

thanks

My dad has expensive construction software that he needs on a day to day basis, but his laptop is dying and very slow. Currently his laptop runs Vista x86, and I wanted to give him my laptop that runs 7 x64. Could I swap the hard drives so that its an easy transition, or would that not work? Thanks for any input and suggestions.

A:Hard drive from one comp work in another comp like it did before?

"his laptop is dying and very slow"

that might mean his hard drive is bad, or that he has too many programs/malware installed, in which case you would not want to put his drive in your laptop.

But to answer your question, it depends on how different the chipset drivers are between the two machines. But if you have the win7 x64 install dvd, you should be able to do a repair install if windows is not able to boot after switching hard drives.

I have a 32bit comp, W7 Ult, 1TB HD and I would like to clone that onto a comp that is a 64bit. HD is the same capacity, question is, can this process be done? Will the programs from the 32bit work in the 64bit comp.? I'm thinking of using Acronis True Image Home 2011.I was given a newer desktop minus the HD and was going to retire my old desktop and I wanted what was on the old comp(32bit) transfered to the new (64bit) tower. Thanx in advance for any advice.

A:Transferring Everything From 32bit comp To 64bit comp

You can't do it.
64-bit has to be a clean installation.
You can transfer your data, but all programs have to be reinstalled.

Current security is Trend Micro PCcillin 2006 (updated daily)
I also run adware 2007, Ccleaner, Auslogics disk defrag, Registery fix,

Machine specs:
Dell 4300
OS - Windows XP

please help me determine the extent of this problem and how to fix it.

Hi.
I just got my new laptop and I am trying to transfer files from old computer to it. I tried to set up a home network by following the wizard. When I go to My Network Places from my new computer, nothing shows. I tried pressing the View Workgroup computers button from there and all I got was:

"Home not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions."

What should I do?

A:Network Problem. New comp can't access old comp.

Create a file in notepad named FIXANON.REG with the following contents:

------------------- Use text after this line -------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
"restrictanonymous"=dword:00000000
------------------- Use text before this line -----------------

Double click on the file and say Yes to the merge into registry question.

If that doesn't do it, let's follow these basic debug steps.

Turn off any firewalls for debugging. If the firewall is the problem, you'll have to configure it to allow access to "trusted zone" addresses. Note that some firewalls must be completely uninstalled to stop them from affecting your networking.

PING each computer by IP address, and if successful, PING by name. You can obtain the IP address of a computer by opening a command prompt (DOS window) and typing IPCONFIG. This should work for any Windows version. A failure here needs to be corrected before you go any farther.

Check your Services are Started on all PCs: Workstation, DHCP Client, DNS Client, Server, TCP/IP Netbios helper, Computer Browser.

All computers should be in the same workgroup for computer browsing to function properly. File & Print Sharing has to be enabled on any computer you wish to share files or printers from. You also need to actually share the resource in question from My Computer, right click on the drive/printer/folder, and select sharing.

Well this is my first post. I am a fledgling hobbyist at this computer thing and I got this lil comp from my friend for free. It was working great and I was really enjoying checking emails and listening to music on it while browsing the webernet. Two days ago I encountered a virus on the comp while installing some pirated (eeek) software. Needless to say I got my due! The comp rebooted... or I rebooted -I am still hazy on it- and I could not find my taskbar and it looked like half of my desktop icons had been moved down the screen. I tried to move them but nothing worked and I also tried to recover the taskbar using ctrl-esc. Anyway I found your website and someone suggested using DR Web and AVG spyware as well as Smitfraudfix I did all of this and still nothing has changed. There was also a suggestion to use hijakthis so this is the point I am at now.
