Preferred Solution: Install of Age of Empire completes but when I click play I get program stopped running error and game closes out.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I am either on Google Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer on my laptop, the window shuts down, and says close program. After clicking this, the internet windows closes and goes back to the desktop page. When this happens, small white pages appear on the desktop screen, and whenever I try to click on anything such as settings or a program, it doesn't work, meaning I have to hold down the power button to switch it off. Also, when it is turned back on, sometimes the screen comes up in a different colour.
I have done a system restore, which worked successfully, but it hasn't fixed the problem.
Does anyone have an idea on how to solve this problem.

Hi

When I right-click on the title bar of a window or program in my
desktop computer, I don't get the usual context menu. Instead, the
window or program closes without warning.

This is not true in my laptop, only in my desktop.

Right-clicking anywhere else produces a context menu, as it should.

I have checked my mouse settings. Right-click is set to 'context
menu/alternate select'.

I would like to get my mouse back to behaving properly when I
right-click on title bars. Any ideas?

A:ritght click on title bar closes program

Hi, Mary, and welcome to the TSG forums.

Try this:

Open a COMMAND prompt (looks like a DOS window). If you don't know how to do that, then click on Start > Run > and type CMD in the box, then press Enter. A DOS-type of window should open.

In the DOS-type window (usually BLACK with WHITE lettering), type this:

CHKDSK /F

and then press ENTER.

Just to clarify things, that is the letters CHKDSK, followed by a SPACE, followed by a forward-slash, followed by the letter F.

When you press ENTER, the system will run some checks and THEN tell you that it CAN'T fix the system files until you reboot, and you will need to press the "Y" key, followed by ENTER, in order to make Windows run the CheckDisk program at the next bootup.

Once that is done, close the DOS-type window, close any open programs, and reboot the system. CheckDisk will run at bootup and will (hopefully) be able to correct any problems you might have with the file system.

Be sure to post back here and let us know what happens.

Alright you guys, this is going to be kinda long, i need to explain the story here.

The Problem

What's happening is this: Whenever I try to play any game at all, when i get into the main menu, like the first menu in Warcraft3, or after i log in World of Warcraft and enter the world... my computer makes a 'click'. And after that the fans start to slow down, but in like half a second, it seems like it catches itself and the fans speed up again, but the screen is frozen. Last time this happened it went to a blue screen and i had to restart.

What I've Tried

My friend suggested it could be my Audigy2 Sound Card, because it was the last thing i had put into my computer. So i took that out, and uninstalled all the software and reinstalled the motherboard sound drivers, and the problem dissapeared for about two weeks.

I've updated my videocard drivers, to the latest version. I've done a directx diag test, everything passed. I've posted this in hardware beacuse i believe its a hardware problem? But i have NO idea what the heck the root of the problem could be.

I would think it was my videocard, but i just had the videocard's fan replaced, and while it was in, they did some benchmarks on it, now that i think of it, the problem didnt start until after the new fan was installed. Could the videocard fan be causing such a huge problem?

I am in a world of pain here

I have a HP desktop with Windows 7
I either listen to an audio book or music when I am on the pc.
Yesterday I tried to listen to a song and when I clicked on the mp3 icon or little square (sorry my pc language needs help) instead of playing it went into my email program (Incredimail) and put itself on a new letter to be mailed!!
I haven't changed anything in settings etc and I can't figure out how to fix it.
Googling for an answer hasn't helped and neither has microsoft windows 7 helped.
Thank you for reading and I will thank you again when you help me.

A:Solved: click mp3 icon and it goes into email program instead of play

try right clicking on an MP3 file and a menu will appear and on that
menu it should say OPEN WITH. If you go to that section it should list your

media players. Select the one you usually use and see if that opens up your

MPŁ and plays normally. If it does, then repeat the above but instead of

selecting your media player, go to the bottom of the menu and select CHOOSE

DEFAULT PLAYER. That will open up another box and you can select which

programme you want to associate MPŁ's with. Make sure the little box at the

bottom is checked that says ALWAYS USE THIS PROGRAMME FOR THIS FILE TYPE (

or words to that effect)

Hi all,

I'm having a rather strange issue that I haven't been able to trace, mostly because although the error itself makes sense to me, I have no idea what it means.

I'm using Windows XP pro, 32 bit with service pack 3 on an HP 8510W notebook. Recently I noticed that every time I closed a program, or a program exited properly, I received an error that looked something like this.

notepad.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x00bb1f3e" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program

iexplore.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x03051f3e" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program

taskmgr.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x009c1f3e" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
And so on, with everything from Reaper to firefox to Task Manager. I've also noticed two other things, which are:
A. this error never occurs if I manually end the task from within task manager or tskill, only when the program legitimately exits.
B. The first hex value always changes, but the second value, the memory being referenced, always stays the same.

This windows install has had some issues in the past anyway, and I'm two steps from installing windows 7 on this thing as it is. The on... Read more

Sorry if it's vague, I will do my best to describe-

I had installed a game ( Tropico 4) on my old PC, piece of cake...got pretty far.
That PC is no more, and now that drive is a slave.
I went to click on the .EXE yesterday in said slave drive, and sure enough it booted right up like it was installed and asked for the product key.
Still with me so far?:)
I played for 2 minutes then I realized it did not have access or know where to look for my save file, so I found it and after some delay copied the .SAV files to the correct area.
Now the tricky part and my question...It is is not tracking my progress and after the current saved game was complete/won, it sets me back to round 1 if you will. Somewhere there is a progress file maybe? What is it called and where do I move it :)

thanks in advance

Ok, Now there is a lot to be said right now so bare with me. I'm going to start form the beginning. I had this problem where I would be presented with coloured screens and after 5 minuets on this screen I get my screens back but with coloured pixels on the screen and I cant seem to do anything at all to recover the pc apart from a hard shutdown. (there are Images of this attached) This happens when I recorded game footage or do some editing with Vegas or Camtasia Studio. This would happen after about 5 - 10 minuets. This was when the PC had Windows 7 Ultimate as its OS. The problem began to become more frequent until I came to the point that I could not record or render at all. I did a LOT if google searching of the problem and found that it could be low C:\ Space. so I checked. Yes I had low space on my disk I was down to 100gb out of 500gb. So I fitted a new 1TB Drive in the machine and put Windows 8 on it and then upgraded to 8.1. Hoping this would fix the problem or at least make it less common than before. Nope still the problem is occurring. I then came across a warning in my BIOS (when I was in there for other reasons) that my CPU was hitting High temperatures somewhere between 40 - 60 degrees C. I have very limited knowledge of CPU's and a standard running temperature is unfortunately one thing I don't know. I do understand that The Processes im trying to run use a lot of CPU power but I have been able to use them in the past. Just in the last few months I have not du... Read more

A:Pc Crash While running ANY Game Or Editing Program

If the pixels are not permanent it is most likely your video card (permanent is dead pixels in your monitor), the crashing could happen because the graphics card may not be seated properly. Also 40?C - 60?C for a stock cooling fan is okay, but if it gets any higher you might want to think about purchasing an aftermarket CPU cooler + case fans. With this said id suggest completely unplugging your computer (to be safe), take the side panel off and take out the GPU (video card) and RAM then re-seat them and make sure they're in good. Maybe clean your case fans too, that can help with the cooling.

You might also have some kind of virus but if you have an antivirus program you probably don't. Maybe check for registery errors + clean your computer with CCleaner, defragment your hard disk, then run a scan to make sure. Hope you get this problem fixed soon!

Googling has told me that a new program in my running program list (UAService7.exe) has been installed by a game I have recently installed (Lego Star Wars). This is apparently something to do with copy protection. It doesn't appear in the Programs startup folder, nor in the msconfig "startup" list, so I can't prevent it running. It apparently also stays behind after the game is uninstalled. I am really annoyed - I don't want or need this running on my computer (particularly as the game won't even work on my machine ) Does anybody know what this program is doing? Hi everyone,

My apologies if this has been brought up already. I did some searching, but couldn't find anything relevant.

I've been doing a lot to my installation of Windows 7 lately. Tweaking it and adjusting things to really customize my experience. I'm not sure if this was always there, but just recently, I've actually noticed it:

The situation is, I have an open program on my taskbar (ex. Firefox), which is pinned. I also have other programs pinned to my taskbar, like Thunderbird. Initially, after I boot up the computer, switching between pinned programs is fine. It takes one click on the icon (on the taskbar) to open up the minimized program. However, eventually, I find that it takes two or more clicks to open that program. The first click does nothing, then the second or third click finally maximizes the program.

After becoming annoyed by this, I started to carefully watch what I was doing to see if I could catch any kind of connection between my working habits and the incidence of the glitch. I was able to reproduce the problem in one way.

I often keep multiple Wordpad documents open, which I take notes in. I noticed that after a fresh reboot, everything would work fine (single clicks only necessary to open minimized programs) until I had Wordpad open. As soon as I had one or two Wordpad documents open, programs would start to become less responsive in terms of maximizing them from the taskbar. Again, it would take two clicks on the respective ic... Read more

A:Double Click Required to Maximize Running Pinned Program on Taskbar

Heh.

I might have found it. I think it might be the 'Taskbar Thumbnail Preview'. If I click too fast between windows before the taskbar thumbnail preview appears, sometimes, the program won't maximize. Maybe that's what was actually happening and I was just making false assumptions about specific programs throwing things off track?

At any rate, I just installed '7+ Taskbar Tweaker' and disabled thumbnail previews. So far, things are going well -- no errors to report. I'll report back after I spend another day or two clicking around, as usual.

If anyone has any other advice in the meantime, I'd be thankful for it!

Thanks again.

Hi i wanna know how to delete and then reinstall directx9c so that i don't have to reinstall windows again?

A:DirectX error can't play a certain game

You cant do it without an awful lot of registry jiggery, and even then its most likely to fail. Suggest you install DX9.0c, if you dont have it already, or if you do, let it reinstall.
What exactly is the problem? Games dont play? bad graphics? More details will help a lot

Yesterday, I installed Empire Earth: Gold Edition on my computer. I had played a short game, just to try it out, and all went well. Then today, I started the game, and all was going well, until I finally tried to start an actual map, where the screen went back and I got an error message saying that "Empire Earth.exe has detected a problem and needs to close" Then, in the message, it gave some information about the error, such as: "AppName: empire earth.exe" "AppVer:0.0.0.0" "ModName: dx7hrdisplay.dll" "ModVer:0.0.0.0" and "Offset:0000dfb2" I have no idea why it is doing this, because although I am not working with the most advanced computer here, it is still working. I run Windows XP with 256 mb of RAM, enough hard drive space, and I have a graphics card of 8mb. That is all sufficient to run the game, according to the information on the game. What can I do?

Welcome to TSG!

Sounds like you could have a virus or bug of some kind..
It may have attached itself to certain .exe's to launch it..

Do you have an up to date antivirus?.. And anti spyware program?

Hmm, seems there are other reasons too..
Here is one; http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19296

Something about HP printers, or photo CD's that install only part of a program, so it keeps asking.

I got a rather old Japanese game the other day (I think it was published in 2004) but thus far I can't get it to work. Whenever I attempt to run the game it tells me that there has been a problem with the application's libraries and that there is Error 1275.

I read that Error 1275 appears to be a problem with Administrator privileges, but I've checked and I'm an Administrator in the User Accounts in control panel. Is there anything else that might be the problem?

A:Unable to play a game, Error 1275

try right clicking on the game and choose "run as administrator" , if that dont work try running it in compatability mode..

I suggest you update the System Setup(BIOS):

After you have updated the BIOS then I suggest updating Chipset, Serial and Video drivers. Please update drivers installation order or one at a time. You can also use the "Detect Driver" tool on the Dell Product Support page which will automatically detect driver updates for your system.

I already made a topic earlier for advice on a graphics card, but I return to you now with a new request. I seek similar advice, but now l have an enlarged budget, of about 100-300 dollars.

I will list the link of my last topic, which will include all my 'stats': http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic153212-2.html

I want to upgrade my computer enough so that it can play the campaign/battles in Empire: Total war smoothly, and even with a little power left over or more.

http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/analysis.aspx

This is the site I went to to check, and apparentely my computer can't run Empire: Total War. What would I need to not only play the camapign in Empire: Total War smoothly, but also to play the battles smoothly? Which PSU/graphics card would I need? Within my budget, are there other parts of my computer necessary to upgade, such as RAM, or maybe even the motherboard?

Particularly, can and should I upgrade my Hard drive (which is lacking at a mere 100GB), and how much? 250GB?

Thank you.

A:Computer newb looking to upgrade to play Empire: Total War smoothly

Ok $300 can almost get you a new system. However, if you change the motherboard, you will have to re-install Windows; do you have a copy of Windows or will you need to buy one?

Hello,

I have artifacting problem with my EVGA GTX 970 FTW the video about the issue is at the end of the post. I get the same problem in WoW, Watch Dogs and H1Z1. So basicly I used memtest86+ no errors, formatted windows and keep having same errors. I also changed PSU and send card back for RMA, they said that they have tested it for a long period of time and no errors and send it back. The only thing which is unchanged is motherboard now. I also get NVIDIA driver stopped working errors at random times(for example I get one while writing this post) Do you have any suggestions / input for me to solve this ?

System Specs are following;
i5-4670k CPU
MSI Z87-G45 mobo, Corsair 2x4 GB RAMS
EVGA Supernova 750 G2 PSU
Samsung SSD 840 EVO 120GB, Windows installed on
EVGA GTX 970 FTW Graphics card

Thanks,

A:GTX 970 In Game Artifacts and Stopped Working Error

Hello from SevenForums! Also, welcome to Eight Forums!

Since your artifacting was seen on the games you're playing, I highly doubt that Unigine's Valley and Heaven Benchmarks would create artifacts also, but in the mean time try testing both of them and see if you find artifacts. If you see artifacts on both benchmarks, use MSI Afterburner to downclock to nvidia reference speeds and see if the artifacts are still there. Also, I would reccomend that you install the hotfix driver 353.38 since the driver fixes the dreaded desktop TDR errors while internet browsing or anything that uses hardware acceleration. Try that and do what I would suggest above.

Those FTW cards are highly problematic with some GTX 900 users who own this model of the card mostly because of the voltage while the clock and memory were overclocked caused some instability such as driver crashes or artifacts. Source comes from the EVGA forums: So GTX 980 FTW are very bad cards?

Recently cleaned up a friend's very infected machine. The jury is still out as to how much damage was done (specifically to the registry), but something weird is going on. When I right click the C drive in My Computer, the EZ CD Creator 5 install program starts executing. I didn't see a autorun.inf file or on the drive which is the only thing I can think of. Any ideas?

Figured I'd add some more info. I've installed a second drive to take backups to. Backup of 12G of data to the drive while the OS was up took 1.5 hours, took much less from an emergency disk, weird. XP SP2 256K memory. I'm also getting a windowformsparkingwindow popup on a shutdown. Reasonably sure this is due to HP stuff on the machine. Java is busted up but I wanted to start getting the backups going before uninstalling that and reinstalling.

A:Windows 7 hardly install programs and freezes when right click on program

Something is wrong with your Context Menu. Use the ShellExView program to disable all of the third party Context Menus and see if it still freezes on you. If it doesn't, then one of them is not working correctly. If it still freezes on you, then disable all of the Context Menus. Enable them one by one until you find the one that is causing the issue.
