Building new gaming comp for Star Wars: TOR. What are you running?

Q: Building new gaming comp for Star Wars: TOR. What are you running?

Hey everyone I am looking at getting a computer for starwars the old republic(needs to release already grr) I am thinking of going through Cyberpowerpc.com my brother and quite a few of my friends have bought computers from them and they seem to be the cheapest for brand new systems. I was hoping I could get some of you to build what you think would be a great computer for gaming, I will only be doing games on it and maybe watching movies I have 1 monitor right now i believe is a 22" viewsonic I would like to get a 24" and have duel monitors. I am looking to spend any where from 1k-1.7k I am looking into getting a SSD with a reg hard drive for storage. Any questions or concerns please post them here and i will get back to you ASAP, PREFER intel i5 unless u think i7 would be better with Over Clocking.

also if you will be playing starwars tor what kind of rig are u running right now and will be running for the game on release day?

so i just seen this and sorry for not doing it prior but here is what i kind of want

What are you going to use the PC for? Starwars: TOR. movies maybe blue ray maybe not not sure yet thats about it.

How much is your budget?

Where are you located? (a.k.a. fill out your profile)
San Joaquin County California near stockton/modesto ca

Are you willing to buy online?
was looking at cyberpowerpc.com I have put together computers myself from newegg.com and a couple other places and from what i have seen cyberpower only charges roughly 30-50dollars to put it together for you.

Are you going to re-use any parts from an earlier build?

Do you need other peripherals like a monitor, keyboard and mouse, among others?
Yes monitor keyboard mouse and headset prefer(throw in speakers ill remove if i want or dont want

Have you already bought any parts?
no i have not bought anything

Do you have an Operating System (OS)?
I have one from my laptop but i dont think i will be using it so throw in maybe windows 7?

Will you need any aftermarket cooling, such as a CPU\GPU cooler or a watercooling setup?
I prefer water cooled CPU/GPU I want it to stay cool as it does get hot here during the summer months, but ontop of that i would like as little noise as possible and no lights or neons I hate bright lights when im trying to sleep lol.

Preferred Solution: Building new gaming comp for Star Wars: TOR. What are you running?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Building new gaming comp for Star Wars: TOR. What are you running?

I am assuming that your present budget excludes the monitor.

Here's what I suggest:

Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz - $219.99
ASRock Z68 EXTREME4 GEN3 LGA 1155 - $189.99
MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III 1G/OC Radeon HD 6950 - $239.99
CORSAIR Professional Series HX850 - $149.99
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) - $69.99
Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB - $54.99
COOLER MASTER RC-692-KKN2 CM690 II - $79.99

TOTAL - $1004.93

That leaves you with $700 for OS and peripherals.

I am personally using the Microsoft Sidewinder X4 and Logitech MX518 as my keyboard / mouse combo. Really happy with them. However, it's more down to personal preference.

With any cash that's left over you might want to get an SSD/Blu-Ray/etc. Or you might look at getting a second HD 6950 for CF.

I have managed to complete 93% of the game. Right now, I'm working on the timed ground assaults and the gold brick space battles. One problem that I haven't been able to remedy concerns the level Defenders of Peace. I have managed to find all the minikit locations except one. Here's a video of all the locations and how to activate them:

I have followed it to a tea. Everything that is required to get all 10 minikits I have meticulously gone through and completed as per the video. There is one white triangle pointing at an area near the bounty hunter switch. My sister, whom I've done this with, claims that, once the bounty hunter switch challenge has been completed, there is a light on it that is supposed to turn green to signify completion and she says that it hasn't done that. The thing is the video shows that, when you knock out 50 droids, a canister appears at the location of the last droid you knocked out.

So, before I delete the save game data and do it all over again to try and get 100%, do any of you have any suggestions?

Okay, so to begin with, I'm looking for a desktop that will run Star Wars: The Old Republic at normal settings without any serious hiccups.

My price range is around $500-700 dollars (I don't need a monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc.), and I'm not really big on the idea of building my own from scratch.

I was browsing my local Best Buy, and the people there recommended the following desktop:

They said it should be able to run the game at low/medium settings without problems, but I thought I'd get a second, more informed opinion before dropping the cash on it.

They also said that the desktop mentioned above has a number of back slots for installing better memory, ram, and graphics/video cards should I ever desire to do so.

Keep in mind, that I'm not really looking to run any graphics intensive games like Crysis 2 or Battlefield 3 (that's what my consoles are for). Rather, I'm looking for something that will run games that are only available for PC such as SW:TOR, WOW, and some League of Legends.

Any and all advice is much appreciated.

A:Star Wars: TOR Rig

In general it isn't to bad a machine but the integrated graphics card is going to be the issue if anything is. Integrated cards really aren't up to scratch, my son recently bought a PC with an integrated card and it didn't perform overly well in League of Legends!

Some other options:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229282 - Not the best card in the world, going back to my sons PC above he is running a HD5450 that I gave him and it runs League of Legends and TOR

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229300 - AMD CPU rather than intel but a bette GPU which would suit a gaming rig more.

I play SWTOR on the rig in my signature, which is an upgraded HP Pavillion (new PSU and Graphics card) and I can run it pretty much maxed out, only have to lower the settings a bit when I go to the fleet (major hub).

Here's what's happening. I was invited to early access on Tuesday, I downloaded the game client several days before, and began playing all day Tuesday. Well I started to get the Blue Screen of death, so I had to do a system restore. Now I cannot even log into the launcher. It either freezes, crashes, ect.... I cannot get a hold of technical support. Now here is where it get's interesting. On my Laptop I can download, log in, and patch the game. The laptop isn't even close to the desktop.

Specs Below:
Graphics Card, GT 520
4 GB Ram
Terra hard drive
AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 250 Processor 3.0 Ghz
64-bit operating system.

If you want to do a remote desktop connection I'd be more than happy to obliged just to get the sucker to work.

A:Star Wars the Old Republic.

Here are the official SWTOR system requirements:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+ or better or Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.0GHz or better

Operating System:
Windows XP/Vista/7

Windows XP: 1.5GB
Windows Vista and Windows 7: 2GB
PCs using a built-in graphical chipset are recommended to have 2GB RAM

Graphics Card:
ATI X1800 or better*
nVidia 7800 or better*
Intel 4100 Integrated Graphics or better*

8x or better

*Minimum of 256MB of on-board RAM and Shader 3.0 or better support.

Go to http://www.canyourunit.com and check to see if it passes the minimum.

If it does, my next question is are other games causing the system to lock up or freeze?

So anyways thought I would try to put a bug in someones butt and see if they have mroe luck then I do, since release of Star Wars The Old Republic, I and many many many other users have been experiencing hard system crashes all the way to the point where most of us are forced into a hard reset power button for 5 secondsI.

It seems to happen with a variety of video cards and intel and amd based systems, and still nothing real from the devs about them fixing it, so I thought I would see if anyone on your team could put a bug in their asses about getting this fixed?

We have sent dxdiags, msinfo(32)'s crash reports when they come in and we get the same responses about making sure your system is stable update c++ runtime etc, really no fix or a decent explanation for this to happen. And to boot when they see that you are playing the game, (again which we have to as gamers try even though we know it is futile) they consider the issue is resolved and close the ticket.

I have seen this problem on everything to bare system requirements all the way up to powerhouse systems, with 24 gigs of memory and they still experience the crashing sometimes to desktop and sometimes a black screen of death. I just find it extremely weird that I can play Battlefiled 3 for hours without a single glitch, but when I go to play SWToR I get hard locks like this and it is just getting to the point where I am sick of their nonsense answers that tech support gives.

I love the game and... Read more

A:Star Wars Galaxy/sys req

You'll be bale to run it, but probably won't enjoy it as much. that game requires a 32 MB card (but for full affect recommends 64 MB), and since you have half that, the video will be sluggish, graphics distorted, and you will lose one of the best elements of the game.

Get a real graphics card to enjoy it properly.

I know this cause when Tomb raider II was out on PC, I only had a 4 MB card and it required an 8 MB card. I had to set screen resolution to it's minimu to even have a semblance of playability, which destroyed the graphic quality of the game.

I uninstalled it. Restarted. Installed under Win XP Service Pack. Same Error.

I made sure the exe is under the Win XP Service Pack. Same Error.

I even tried the "change the mss32.dll in the directory." Same Error.

I did the built-in system scan in the game configure. It's not the best but it should still play.

Looking through the threads I found a few things I tried, NVrefresh and TCP Optimizer. HOwever, still posting a question because of my circumstances. I am running a Pentium 3 1000GHz with 512 Ram. Windows XP Home, NVidia FX 5600SE, DirectX 9. My internet connection is through the school network this causes slow connection when people are using it. When running Star Wars Galaxies the stat window says that ping is about 600-700 the packet loss % is averaging 50% and the bandwidth in on average says 0.5/0.0. Just like some one else running about 20fps. I wanted to know if there is anything I can do to give me the "edge" and almost force a fast connection. When no one is here, like over a school break, it runs great. So, no idea how else to put it, but just wondering if I can make my connection window larger? I will provide as much information as I possibly can if you need it.

A:Star Wars Galaxies

You could try posting in networking about it....but other than getting a direct line to your computer, I don't know what you could do....tell your school to get a better connection, I guess.

So I finally got into the options and turned down all the graphics....still, I was experiencing major lag. Now I've played World of Warcraft for nearly a year with no problems. I think I might know the problem...on the games website it said if you have graphics integrated into your motherboard (I have nVidia GeForce 4mx integrated) that it sometimes borrows regular (sry...dont know all the technical terms) ram to boost video ram...my question is, if thats the problem, can i fix it without buying something?

(and I meet all of the minimum requirements)

thanks in advance

Welcome to TSG!!

Downloaded?.... A legal DL?..
If not, you should have read the rules first.. TSG won't help with pirated software..

Oh and could you list your system specs.. If we can help, that info will help us.

Minimum is bad for games.. It means all the graphics need to be set low or off in some cases..
Yes integrated vid uses system RAM..
Can it be fixed for free?.. Not really, you'll just need more RAM, or another (plug in) video card..

Edit: I have just googled, and it seems some are 10+ day trials..
One said nothing about a time limit..

As I don't really know this game..
I don't mean to pre-judge, but just something TSG likes to know.

Well I can't remember all of them off hand, but public enemy is who has killed the most people/droids/wookies etc overall, bantha fodder is who has been killed the most. There's one for dying the least and one for killing the most people on one 'life', but I can't remember what they call those.

I just reinstalled KOTORII after beating it years ago and uninstalling it due to computer memory issues. After the reinstallation I ran the program and made it through the opening menu just fine. I first noticed a problem that when I was creating my custom character, the area that is supposed to show what the character looks like was just showing the smoky background. (the character was missing) I thought this might not be a problem, but it turned out that when I made it through the whole character creation process I was presented with a black screen with a few little brown dashes. There wasn't anything discernible that I could make out, just black and brown streaks. I went to the pause menu and could see just fine. (with the character missing from the character window again) Any reason this may happen and/or methods of fixing it? I have checked around and they often cited disabling sound as a possibility. I already had the sound disables so I know that is not the issue.

Thank you

SW:EAW freezes on the first screen every time I start the game and I have to restart my computer. All system checks for direct x etc included in the dvd of the game passed, as far as I know my video card is updated. Installation was fine.. no errors. Anyone know how to fix this?

A:Star Wars Empire At War Freezes

First off, you should install the latest version of directx 9.0c the february 2006 install, second make sure the game has all the patches that has come out for it, third make sure your drivers for your video card are the latest version. Check to make sure your system meets the requirements set by the game, and then last off it may be the CD/DVD, make sure it is clean.

I recently bought KotOR because I played it on my cousins xbox and I really liked it. I went to buy it and the minumum/recommended seemed ok

System: 1 GHz CPU or equivalent
Video Memory: 32 MB VRAM
Hard Drive Space: 4000 MB
DirectX: DirectX v9.0

System: 1.6 GHz CPU or equivalent
Video Memory: 128 MB VRAM
3D Sound Card: Yes

I fall in between all that. Though I only have 256 RAM, it lays between 128 minimum and 512 Recommended. But my processor is 1.8 GHZ so I pass the recommended there. THe minimum VRam is 32 and the recommended is 128 RAM and I have 64. Everything else fits, the cd, the HD space.
The thing is, the game runs OK until it goes into some action, or having a lot going on. It looks as if it "skipping frames" or lagging a bit. Like not smooth like.

The only thing that I think is causing this is the Intel(R) 82852/55 Graphics controller with Extreme 2 Graphics that is built in, which means I can't change it.

Since you know what is going on, I was wondering, do you think if I upgrade to 512 RAM, it would make it run better?

Hold your horses - this might be long.

I wanted to play star wars - phantom menace, so i put in the disc as usual, and boom, i cant get it to install because... a file is missing i think. Wheen I wanna install it, it says: "Setup requires _SETUP.DLL and _ISRES.DLL (located in _SETUP.LIB) in order to operate properly. Please ensure these files are located with SETUP.EXE." - LIKE THAT! Since I can't find _ISRES.DLL even though I found the other files, I concluded that THAT was the file missing, so I downloaded it from a website. But I couldn't get _ISRES.DLL into the CD folder!! When I try to write it to the CD, it says: "The disc in the drive is not a writable CD or it is full. Please insert a blank, writable CD into drive D:\, or insert a disc with enough free space to hold all the files you have selected for writing to CD." - LIKE THAT! ARHG! So I tried moving all the files in the CD OUT into another folder, so I could then put in the _ISRES.DLL, but I can move every file but the Install file, where I'm supposed to put the _ISRES.DLL. If I don't do that, I cant do nuts about installing. Anyone got any tricks up their sleeves to help me on this?

well all the files should be on the disk...what operating system are you trying to install it onto? i assume it is a retail copy of the game? and that will mean u cant write to the disk...but the error messages you are gettin state what your r sayin is right...i imagine the game is for the windows 98 platform as it was made in early 99? youl be lucky to get it to install into xp as it is a dos based game, and youl not get it to run in vista

I recently purchased the Lego Star Wars PC game. When I tried to play it after installing the software, I was told that it "requires a graphics card that supports Pixel Shaders v1.1." A:Lego Star Wars PC won't work

you said you installed directx 7 thats not the lastest version of directx the lastest version is directx 9.0c. Once you have downloaded that try the game again, if that does not work try updating your graphics card driver. If that does not work its may be got to do with your graphics card is not supported. Buy a graphics with either 128mb to at least 258mb try nvidia geforce 6 series they recommended in nearly every pc game their is.

HI there, I'm getting very low FPS (average 20), even when I turn off everything! It was so bad that I figured if I'm going to get a bad FPS I might as well make it look good (well, minus the jerky movement). My computer:

Athlon XP 2400+ (2.0GHZ)
512MB DDR 2700
GeForce 4 Ti 4600
120gb WD Special Edition
MSI KT3 Ultra2 Mainboard
USR 56k Controller Modem

Running @ 1280*1024 but lowering the resolution doesn't provide any huge FPS increase. Also using a slow dialup connection (this shouldn't be the reason why I'm getting bad FPS though, the modem isn't even in my computer, I share the connection with my server, which no one but me uses)

Is this just my issue or are other people having problems as well? The game isn't that detailed and yet its so darn slow, even indoors! I also am using the latest drivers (I might be one number behind but I doubt it I updated often)

I'm having some issues loading Battlefront. I get through the first CD fine, then the second takes forever, but when I expect it to ask for the next CD, it says "Wrong CD in Drive: Enter BF CD1" and I can cancel, try again, or continue.

I've seen this problem before: with that collection of bugs called "Enter the Matrix." The latter versions were fine, but I bought it right when it came out, and it would do the same thing. I would insert whatever disk it asked for and hit continue, and after a few tries (sometimes it just stopped responding) I finally got it to load.

If there's another way, though, I'm open to suggestion. I'm sure if I tried enough times, it would eventually load, but I don't know why some games do this and if there's a better way to load them.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I remember this problem. I seem to remember that it took 6 or 7 tries, very irritating since you have to enter the CD key each time and everything else. It did finally install and play perfectly well though. Keep at it.

Hi - This was my Christmas treat for myself. I've already upgraded the RAM from 6gb to 8gb (planning to go to 16gb at some point in the future). I'm planning to fit an SSD to replace the slow (to me) HDD (1TB) that came with it. I've fitted and worked with many SSDs over the last 5 years (I work in IT and it's also my hobby), but have only used/upgraded to SATA SSDs. Whilst surfing various sites, looking for SSDs, I've suddenly become aware of mSATA and M.2. type SSD modules, which (in some cases), would allow for both a SATA HDD/SSD AND another SSD (mSATA/M.2) to be running at once in the same machine.  Have I raised my hopes too high? I've trawled the forums, the manuals etc and just cannot find an answer to this question. Can anybody answer this for me please? I'm obviously aware that I can replace my SATA HDD with a SATA SSD,  just want to know whether I can use mSATA/M.2 also or instead of. Many Thanks.

A:Can you add M.2 or mSATA SSD to HP Pavilion Star Wars 15t-an...

Hi, Your machine supports M.2 SSD as mentioned in the following manual (page 3).     http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04642845.pdf In theory Yes. But, please read the manual, it implies upgrading some components including RAM will void warranty. Because they are under Authorized Service Provider parts  (Chapter 6). Regards.

I think this is a cool game. I wanted to get the big machine but I saw it on ebay and it was $4000! I'm like holy crap there is no way I can buy this. I'm just curious, but is it anywhere on sale on the internet? Because it's not on ebay anymore.
