Preferred Solution: Lenovo flex 14 stuck on Boot Menu / App Menu

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My brand new Flex 3 Windows 10 laptop is stuck at the boot menu. It might have been as a result of a Windows update but I'm not 100% sure. Any ideas because I would really rather not have to send it back but it's  nothing more than a very expensive paperweight at the moment. TIA for any help.

A:Lenovo Thinkpad x230 stuck on boot menu

I would need to see it to be sure, but my guess is that the hard disk was logically damaged.  That means the boot record or partition information was wiped out.  It could also be a disk hardware error.  Do you have a backup?

Hi,My ideapad FLEX 4 has been stuck in the startup menu whenever I turn it on and I can't get out of it. (For a little refrence I'm talking about the menu that opens when you click on the little windows logo at the bottom left corner of the FLEX screen since all my google searches took this as meaning the boot up menu.) I can still operate Chrome and all my apps from this screen but I'd really like to get to my background screen and out of this menu without it popping up (or leaving me stuck in it) anytime I log onto my device. I've run updates (when it needed to) and restarted it, and shut it down multiple times but it's still stuck in this. As mentioned earlier google has turned up nothing. Any help would be much appreciated.

So when I turn on my lenovo u410 laptop I get this menu box up as seen below in a black background. I've played around with the menu and I get nothing. This has been happening for the past few days and usually it manages to get past this and start up normally. However today is the day it's decided to stay put and I have no idea what to do. This is very frustrating as I only bought the laptop less then 2 months ago. Please help!     It's windows 8 btw

Hi N_A,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the Lenovo Community,

I?d like to guide you in a way to try to set the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) inside the BIOS to be the first priority booting order so we will try to return the BIOS to factory default settings:

Step1: Please turn off the machine and then at the left side you can see the NOVO button which is the button with the curve arrow

Step2: Press on the NOVO button and then you will get option press on BIOS Setup

Step3: Please press on FN+F9 together and then press Enter on Yes option and then FN+F10 to save and exit and then press Enter

Hope the information helps. Let us know.

Regards

Soha

I currently have the lenovo x1 carbon 3rd generation, which I purchased last summer. Hours ago, I decided to restart my laptop, but it ended up getting stuck in the boot menu/app menu. I have tried pressing the esc button or doing the f9 f10 method in the BIOS menu, but nothing seems to work. Does anyone know how I can fix this? This really is wasting my time, as I have assignments due and finals coming up, and I am getting really frustrated. Thank you!

This sounds like a damaged boot record or a bad SSD.  Do you have a good backup?

Does it ever start?  If so, run chrystal diskinfo (free)

I've had my laptop for a little while now, and today my laptop suddenly crashed, and without me realising it crashed to a blue screen I turned my laptop off by holding down the power button.

Now every time I turn on the laptop I'm stuck on Boot Menu / App Menu, out of the four options that are there I can only press setup, but I have no idea what to do in setup that may help. I can't get on my laptop at all this way and it's very frustrating :/

Hi Eftroy,

Welcome to the Lenovo community!

Wait for the machine to boot into the 'Automatic repair couldn't repair your PC' error message.
Click the 'Advanced Options' button
Open cmd and type:
bootrec /fixMBR
bootrec /Fixboot
bootrec /rebuildBCD
And also
chkdsk /r c:
chkdsk /r d:

Or else

Turn on the computer.
Wait for the machine to boot into the 'Automatic repair couldn't repair your PC' error message.
Click the 'Advanced Options' button
Click the 'Troubleshoot' button
Click the 'Advanced options' button
 Click the 'Startup Settings' button
Wait for the system to reboot into the 'Startup Settings' menu (is the same menu for safe mode)
Select the 'Disable early launch anti-malware protection' option. (Press '8')
If this worked for you, you should now boot into windows.
Now you can shut down your system and it should hopefully work first time the next time you start the system

Let us know how you get on.

Lenovo Z560 Ideapad running Windows 7 Pro SP1 all up to date. When I right click to pull up the context menu, the menu displays in two steps: the first step is faint, but when I move the mouse into the menu it brightens up. If I click on one of the menu items, that action will be performed, but that one menu item is then stuck on the display in a semi-ghost manner - by that I mean I can see it, but it is no longer active - clicking on it again does nothing, so it's not really there, but if the ghost is on top of a link or something, that action will occur. I have found that if I make one of these ghosts near the bottom edge, then that will be the only ghost for a while and it won't be so annoying. I right click on the desktop and click on Personalize, then that ghost will sit and stay there. I have tried installing a new video driver, but that didn't help - maybe I haven't found the right driver. I would guess there is a conflict with something else that has been installed - but there's about 6 years of stuff.  Any ideas?

Okay so I turned on my computer this morning (its a samsung laptop) and it was all black and it had an option of boot menu

3. SATA CD : : TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-U633J
and App Menu
1. Setup

A:Stuck on boot menu!

lolomg

You have a Samsung with Windows 8 pre-installed is my opinion and the computer has what is known as a UEFI - (BIOS) system
That boots from a file on the hard drive in a partition created when the O/S was installed and in which are the files to boot to Windows

Try both Windows boot manager, there should only be ONE, it has the indications at the moment, although it may be other causes, of someone changing settings and trying to boot from a DVD etc.

It would help if you could post the full model of the Samsung, and indeed any details in respect of any attempted boots, installations , changes, use of registry cleaners, boosters etc., BEFORE this problem arose.

Was it by chance left powered on, on battery only and the battery failed, whilst it was running, if so it may be a corruption of files caused whilst updates were being installed. Not a likely cause , but possible.

Finally HOW OLD is the Samsung please

I bought a Samsung ultrabook last week. I'm still in the process of transferring my files onto it, however I just tried to turn it on and instead of booting up to my windows 8 home page, it goes to 'boot menu.' There are two options:

1.SATA HDD:: Hitachi HTS545050A7E380
2. Windows Boot Menu

If I try either of these it just loops back to the same screen again.

If I tab across to App Menu, I can enter setup, but I have no idea what to do in there!

What can I do?

Good chance the hard drive has gone bad on you. I suggest you return it to where you purchased it and see if they will replace the computer with a new one.

Some change(s) must have been made to the machine. What was installed or what settings changed the last time it was used?

You should be able to restore the machine to the factory condition (the way it was when you bought it) by pressing F4 on the boot screen. Just make sure that all your backups are recent because all your files and programs will be lost. Your manual should tell you in more detail, but System Restore may also be available by that method if you want to try that.

It would be a good idea to maintain a full, system backup so that you won't lose everything when something like this happens, or when the hard drive fails, which they all will do, unless you stop using them.

Hi
My Lenovo G580 laptop won't start up. When I turn it on using the power button it goes straight to boot menu/app menu. There are various options there to choose from, but whichever one I choose, it keeps going back to boot menu. I've tried using the novo button, but it still doesn't work. Whatever I choose from the novo button screen, except "BIOS setup", keeps taking me back to the boot menu. My laptop won't start up, and it's really frustrating! Please help?!

Hey there, I own a Samsung laptop, the model is NP300E5C. I left my computer on the couch, rushed off to work and came home to find it on the ground. I figured it fell off the couch, which is about a foot off the ground. When I turned it on the fan was making a loud noise and it was clearly damaged or out of alignment. Instead of spending money taking it in, I decided to have a look and popped the back off. I took the fan off and cleaned it and then put it back. However, the hard drive was connected to the back cover by a little plug which went into the motherboard so I took that off in order to screw the fan back in place. I put the cover back on and tried to put the hard drive chord thingy into the motherboard again but it seemed a bit loose. I then turned the computer on, after screwing everything back, and now it only goes to the boot menu and no matter what I do, whether it be changing the settings back to default or trying to keep that plug stable, nothing will get me to Windows. Did I take something apart that was not supposed to come off?

Remove all USB devices, (USB Flash Drive, HDD, Camera and your Phone), except keyboard and mouse. If this still doesn't work, boot into Setup (Bios) go to Peripherals and make sure USB Legacy, or USB Keyboard are Enabled. Then go to Boot Priority and move USB down lower in the list of Bootable protocols. It should read, CD/DVD rom drive First Boot Device, followed by HDD. USB should be last in list or not at all.

Hi chuka0317,

Posting "HELPpP" doesn't really explain much. First, I recommend posting your computer specs to the best of your knowledge. Posting computer specs definitely helps troubleshoot computers issues more efficiently. Also, provide a bit more information regarding your computer issue. When you try to tap the F8 key to get to the safe mode menu, does the computer give you an error? When was the last time your able to boot to Windows successfully?

Hi before describing the problem I will give some details about the Laptop and the OS used. -Ideapad 710s bought in August 2016 -Windows 10 Home China preinstalled-Clean Install of Windows 10 Home Multilanguage about 2 months ago(UEFI install with 3 partitions, C, EFI partition, Recovery partition) [So this laptop is used by a friend of mine who I helped reinstalling the OS to get rid of malware. When reinstalling I faced the usual issue of a not detected HDD due to lack of drivers, which I had to download to a USB stick and had to load during installation.] About a month ago my friend started the laptop and got stuck in this screen: Upon pressing Enter the same screen will come back up afer a short black screen. I entered the BIOS menu (or whatever you call it) and found that there is no HDD listed in the boot options:  I changed all possible settings in that menu but nothing helped to normally boot again. I created an Ubuntu Live USB stick plugged it in, restarted and...the laptop booted normally to Windows like nothing had happened. I checked the boot menu again and the inbuilt HDD was listed in the boot options. My only guess some time later was that it must be a hardware problem since it appeared so randomly, and having a USB stick plugged lead to the HDD being recognised again (so is my assumption). Now, the same screen appeared again some time later and after waiting for a while my friend was able to reboot the lapto... My Dell Precision M6800 has been hanging and not booting sometimes on and off for a year.  I've managed to coax it into working before by unplugging everything and taking it out of its station.   Now it won't start up no matter what I do.  REMEMBER I CAN'T GET INTO BIOS.
What I've done so far
1. removed all storage/hard drives one at a time.  Primary, secondary, optical, mSATA
2. pulled memory, tried each stick by self.
3. unplugged coin battery with power plug disconnected and laptop battery removed.  Left unplugged for more than a minute.
4. cleaned everything with compressed air.
So now what happens when I press F2:
1. I briefly get the yellow "entering setup" on the upper right of the screen
2. Then I get two lines of text:
Initializaing Intel(R) Boot Agent GE v1.5.50
PXE 2.1 Build 092 (WfM 2.0)
The same thing happens when I press F12 except the yellow text changes to "Preparing one-time boot menu"
I've tried putting a freshly made windows 10 usb install media  in a usb  slot and the same thing happens

Actually normally i run kubuntu as my operating system but my problem is before that I got a problem where at the start of the computer it stop at verifying dmi pool data ... then i try starting my boot menu but i can start one time on a hundred. appart from the one time that it works it guets me a little "n" on top of the screen and thats it. But when it does work my computer cant seem to be able to see my usb key which is a sony 8GB usb key that i installed my kubuntu on and yes i made it as a bootable usb. Finally to finish this dance my computer wont start a bootable dvd either as the verifying dmi pool data is before the cd/dvd choice

So i wanted to know what you guys think of this what should i do? I dont care about loosing all of my data i just want my computer to work.

thanks in advance

ps: sorry if my english is bad but its not my native language

Do you have a hard drive in the computer? If so have you tried disconnecting it?

Also try clearing the CMOS using the clear CMOS jumper(best method) or by popping out the CMOS battery for a several minutes with the power cable unplugged and then press and hold the power button too for good measure.

I am extremely upset because I think I have just ruined my laptop through trying to perform a BIOS update which LENOVO provided through the website.I had recently reset my computer to factory settings via the ONE KEY RECOVERY button. After basic setup and startup, I decided to install the BIOS update Windows 7 64 Bit for my PC. I downloaded the two files provided: public and private, and moved on to first click on the public file. This opened up another application with various options which the README file provided no information on.Anyway my computer began to restart itself and perform some operations to which it is now stuck on the BOOT MENU.Each time I turn on the POWER ON button, I am directed to the BOOT MENU, and I have no option to use my computer as normal. Please help me on this.

Hi, I just bought an L460 Thinkpad (14", 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SDD, core i5 6200U) without an OS, under a certain scheme for students and academics. I'm trying to install a Linux distro via USB. However, after pressing F12 and entering the Boot Menu, when I select USB HDD and press Enter, the Boot Menu prompt reappears. Making a selection here does not seem to have any effect, and thus I'm unable to boot from USB. Startup settings in BIOS: Legacy Only, CSM [Yes]. Would be grateful if someone could give some pointers as to how to proceed. Thanks,

Hello everyone I am having a bit of trouble with this G580 lenovo laptop, which can't boot.Problem: HDD and CD/DVD is visible in info tap in bios, however they are not visible in the boot tap, only EFI network IP4 and IP6 are visible. I tried switching the HDD at first just to make sure if it would do anything, but did not work, so i switched back. But i have never seen this kind of issue before, so i actually have no idea what to do. The bios version installed is V9.01 i hope if anyone have an idea that might help solve this issue. --Mootix--

A:Lenovo G580 - Boot menu can not find CD/DVD, HDD, or USB's

Okay it seems i have resolved my own issue, i will report how and what i did so anyone with the same issue can try this. Okay so apparently the Bios were setup to only reqister boot devices that had something to do with Windows 8, meaning that the harddrive which was completely empty of any data, had nothing to do with Windows 8 and therefor can't be booted with the current Bios settings. 1. Go to the Security tap and disable "Secure boot" only temp.2. Go to the Boot tap and change "Boot mode" from UEFI to Legacy Support.3. In the Boot tap change "Boot prio" to "Legacy First".4. Reboot and press F2 and check the boot tap for the HDD under "Boot device prio"Done I think that since the HDD don't have Win8 installed it will not show as a boot device unless it is on Legacy Support.Becuz UEFI on the G580 only supports HDD with a installed Win8 OS. I should now be able to reinstall Win 8 - 8.1 to the HDD.

Hey guys, I have a Lenovo Y480 whose HDD is in the process of failing.  I just got a Samsung SDD, and put a bootable copy of Win10 onto a USB stick.  Problem now is that I can't figure out how to get the computer to boot from the USB stick.  I'm in the BIOS Setup right now, and I've been through the topics both on the Lenovo website, and through a couple of different links from Google.  I just can't find the options mentioned in either of those websites. I'm not sure where to go from here.  Anybody run into a similar problem?  Any ideas on how to get this computer to boot from the USB stick so that I can install a fresh Win10 onto the machine? Thanks for the help!

A:Lenovo Y480 USB Boot Menu Options

nvm, I just got it working. I had to disable UEFI in order to do it from the "Boot" menu in Setup. I'll re-enable it later to make sure I don't accidentally boot from a different USB stick later.

Hello,  i just bought a Lenovo Ideapad 700-15Isk with an additional 250gb ssd. So, i used a flash drive to install win 10, but then when i was updating the drivers, downloading them from the Lenovo support site, after one of them was updated the laptop restarted and then the boou menu appeared. I pressed to boot from the ssd, but nothing, a black screen and then back to the boot menu. I tried with every other option LANs, win flash drive, the other 1tb hdd but nothing worked. How can i fix this?  Thank you.
