I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi. I've updated all the drivers, per technical support's advice. I'm losing 1-5% per day when shut down and 5-10% per day in sleep mode on my new Yoga 920. Is anyone else having this problem? Do tech support read these forums?

A:Yoga 920 - Battery drain when shut down and in sleep mode

Hi amote,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Battery draiining reports are also visible on other OEM forums as well and most likely related to similar features offered by Windows 10. Such also applies to different model of different macnufacturers as well.

Disabling fast start as discussed here would be a good step to try first.

Our forums are peer to peer community discussion group but Tech support (although maybe limited to their own scope of support) also utilizes the discussions we have for investigation of issues.

Update us how things go.

I've had my Yoga 3 11" for about a month, and recently have been experiencing a strange behavior.  It randomly - and frequently - turns the screen off, even when I am actively working on it, where I have to re-log back on to unlock the screen.  It's to a point where this is happening every 5 minutes now.  I've re-configured the power options so that it doesn't turn off for an hour, but that didn't help.  It is almost un-workable at this point.  Has anyone else been experiencing this?

A:Yoga 3 11 Random Sleep Mode

I've had my Yoga 3 11 for about 3 days. It goes into sleep mode and shuts off the hard disk every 2 minutes or so even if I am actively typing. If I can't find a solution in the next 2 days, I am returning it. I really like this laptop but this makes it unusable.  Has corrupted files that I am copying because the hard drive goes to sleep. I have set the power settings to shut down the screen after 3 hours and the hard disk never.

Any ideas?

I've found Sleep and Hibernate to work great for some folks and to be very buggy for others. Instead of either, I always recommend setting the display and hd to power down after a defined period of inactivity.

I have unplugged the power from both the cpu and monitor, powered down both & disconnected the monitor cable. The error message says "monitor in power saving mode use pc to enable". Tough to do when the screen is black! I suspect there is a secret combination of keys that undo this but have no idea which ones to press in what sequence. Help!

I bought a Yoga 920 about 6 weeks ago and have been loving it, largely because of the touch screen and pen features. However, I've had to replace the batteries in my Active Pen 2 twice already--they are not getting anywhere near the advertised 2000 hours of battery life, I would say they are dying after more like 50-100 hours of active use (I generally only use the pen to read and comment on documents for work).  Are there any settings to improve battery life? Should I not be storing it near the laptop? Is my pen defective? What can I do about this?

Hi,

I have an application that I want to use for long periods of time, but the internet connection needs to be up. Now, to save power I thought that I could put my computer in to sleep mode, but everytime it sleeps, it loses internet connection.

My question is: Can the internet connection stay active during sleep mode? And if so, how can I do that?

I have already tried unchecking 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' option on my network adapter, but without results.

Any help is greatly appreciated, and I look forward to replies...

-Marty

A:Active Internet connection during sleep mode?

No. If the computer is sleeping the internet connection can't be active (i.e. which would mean you also have a program running handling the connection, transfering data plus then you have memory in use and disk etc. so how much of your computer could really be asleep anyway

/* edit */
just fyi: the connection is allowed to be "awake" only to look for remote "wake up from sleep" type requests coming remotely. No other type of internet activity supported in sleep mode

Hello,

I have a bizarre problem that I've never seen before and wanted to post here to see if anyone has any resolutions. My current setup is as follows:

I am running and HP XW440 Tower workstation (WinXP) connected to dual monitors. I also have an HP6710b Laptop (WinXP) that I run headless. When I first login the morning, I physically login in to both machines. I then connect to my laptop via and RDC connection from my tower. I drag the RDC window to the left monitor (of the dual setup) and run my tower on the right monitor.

Everything works great, except for when I close the RDC connection from the tower. It exits fine, but when I open the lid of my laptop (or undock it and open it), it is completely black. I can move around on the touchpad and press all the keyboard keys, but nothing brings the laptop out of this "sleep mode". I've disabled hibernation and all the standby settings. I ran the laptop headless all day yesterday without connecting the RDC connection and it never went into this bizarre sleep mode.

Does anyone have any ideas why my RDC connections seems to freeze my laptop? The only resolution I have for when it locks up is to pull the battery pack or hold the power button down until it shuts down. I can then reboot it and it works fine (until I connect RDC again).

Any help or suggestions you have is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jamie

A:Laptop won't come out of sleep mode while RDC connection is active

It might have something to do with the screen resolutions. If you initiate a remote login and the resolutions are mismatched (higher on the client than the server is capable of) and later you physically go to the server it'll be black and stay black because it can't display at that resolution.

However if you first sign into the server and load at its native resolution it should work fine going back and forth between physical and RDC. Your's apparently is not so I would suspect the server is losing its "resolution identity" somewhere along the way.

That's my best guess anyway. You can try playing with the RDC resolutions and see if that helps, update graphics drivers and control software. If you window the RDC differently on the second monitor or switch the tower display to the second monitor instead of the RDC window it may have an effect.

good luck.

But no battery or extra tips.  Did I miss something out of the box?  I can't believe at this price point, they wouldn't ship the battery with the pen.  It needs a AAAA battery, not something you have sitting around the house. thanks. I'm quite shocked and am betting it was an error but trying to find out if they were supposed to be included or not?  Can't find any documentation. It's almost like the pen is just something they say is included, little details.

Hello for the past 2 weeks I am facing a weird battery charging issue. Apparently the battery charges only while the laptop is on Sleep mode or Shut Down mode. It doesn't charge when powered on. The HP online support also does not have any answers. I have updated the BIOS and restarted the laptop countless times. The battery is not removable. Anybody else faced this issue and any solutions?  On a side note, Microsoft Excel crashes repeatedly since beginning. And the support has no answer to this too. Thanks for your help! Regards,Garry

Battery drain in sleep mode is excessive compared to other Windows laptops. Leaving the office with a full charge, not powering on the unit at home, I come in the next day and the battery is 89%. Same scenario over a weekend - Leave the office with 100% charge, come in Monday morning, having not used the laptop and the battery is 78%. This has nothing to do with the fancy OLED or anything - it wasn't turned on. Hope this can be addressed in a BIOS update. I really want to love this laptop but the short battery life compared to advertised specs and the excessive battery drain while sleeping leave me with mixed feelings.

I bought my Yoga 13 (type 20175) brand new in 2014.  It shipped with Windows 8, 128GB, 4GB, if I recall correctly.  I had a license for W8 Pro that I used and there was a free 8.1 upgrade that I completed not long after purchase. Upgrades over the last (almost) 3 years have been boosting it to 8GB of ram, installing a Samsung SSD 850 EVO (250GB), Windows 10 (Pro), and now a battery. Sometime in 2015, I started noticing that if I didn't use the laptop and left it off for 2 or 3 days, the battery would completely discharge to 0%.  I chalked it up to age, and could still get several hours of moderate use in a day, so it wasn't a priority.  Finally, I bit the bullet and bought a brand new battery and put it in last week. Nothing changed.  I still have the same problem. In retrospect, it may have coincided with the installation of Windows 10.  Below is a further description of the problem and things I have tried.   PROBLEM:When shutting down, the battery loses an average of 2.5% per HOUR. (i.e. after 10 hours, it goes from 100% to 75%)This is consistent whether I use the Windows Start menu, the power button, or a command prompt (shutdown /s /f /t 0) to turn it off.  By the way, putting it in hibernate burns at the same rate. When putting the laptop to sleep, the battery loses only about 0.75% per HOUR (i.e. after 10 hours, it goes from 100% to 92%).  This occurs regardless of how I put it to sleep... When running on battery this computer rarely wakes from sleep.  I noticed that if I try to wake from manually entering sleep within about 10 seconds it will come back on rare occasion, typically only once after a reboot.  Any longer than 10 seconds and it won't happen.  If the charger is connected, the device is 10x more likely to return from sleep after a few seconds.  Additionally, the manual says you can wake from sleep by opening the lid, pressing the power key, pressing a keyboard key, or tapping the touch pad.  My HP only wakes from the power bottun when on battery, and the power button and sometimes when opening the lid when connected to the charger.  The keyboard and touchpad have no effect.  I've updated all the drivers/bios from the support assistant.  While updating drivers in attempt to fix this issue, the display driver said a power state could not be changed.  I verified Windows 10 has completed all updates.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the Display driver.  No errors the second time.  I went to the device manager and made sure the keyboard power management setting was set to wake from sleep.  I did mess with the power settings a bit, I reset them to default levels of the HP recommended settings.  Nothing seems to help the situation. I've followed the steps on this site: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03383935 Any recommendations?  It w... I was hoping someone here may have an answer to this. The last set of updates I did SP2 and all the ones that came with it seemed to have changed something in the sleep mode. When I put my HP to sleep at night, it seems that the battery backup is lost. I know this because when I wake the computer in the AM, it says that the computer lost communion with the battery backup and then says very quickly that it has been restored! My concern is that if we have a storm and the battery backup is not working right then it won't allow me to safely shut down the computer! Has anyone had this issue lately??? I can't seem to find any info. on it!

Hello everyone,
My SONY Vaio is acting up, I just did a fresh install of Windows Vista and I think I need a driver that I can't find. A screen keeps coming up saying this:

"Caution
The installed battery may not be properly connected to the computer or may not be compatible with the computer.

Click OK to enter Hibernate mode, and remove and reinsert the battery.

See the electronic VAIO(R) User Guide for more information about using the battery."

When I click ok it just pops up again over and over, the battery is fine I think, it operates the computer without being plugged into the wall I think its just a driver but I can't figure it out, I have installed most of the model's drivers from SONY.com

ANYONE have ideas I'm so stuck
What are the drivers I need to make this notebook "know" its a notebook???

A:Battery/Sleep Mode Problems!!

Check Device Manager. To do this, go to Start and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Look for any devices that have any issues noted.

Please post back with the exact make and model of your Vaio

I've always used sleep mode at night and quite frankly most of the time instead of shutting down my yoga. I know thats not good after reading some here but wanted to share history in case that has something to do with problem.Typically at night or when leaving office or just going to be off computer for a while I'll close the lid (which is set for sleep mode) and when I return I open it up, enter my password and I'm right where i left off. I have multiple spreadsheets or power points open so it's easier than shutting those down every time or even at night. But since yesterday, when I open it back up, it has shut down and has to start up from "off" vs sleep. All things open have to be recovered (xls, docs, ppt, etc) and chrome says it has shut down unexpectedly and asks if I want to restore tabs, etc. What is causing this change and how can I troubleshoot it and fix it?Help much appreciated.

hi juniorgolf18,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you try checking under

Control Panel / Hardware and sound / Power Option
Click on change plan settings on your selected Power Plan
Click on change advanced settings

Now on this window look for Sleep and open it up.
Look for "Allow hybrid sleep"
Make sure that it is on and save changes

Check and let me know if that works.

My 14" Yoga (non-pro) seems to jump out of sleep mode whenever I put it into sleep mode. This even happens when the Yoga has been folded up and put in by bag, giving a high chance of damaging the laptop or even causing other kinds of damage. Currently I'm working around it by putting it into Hibernate (which, I admit, is also pretty fast). But that's obviously not a nice workaround. Does anybody know how to fix this? I tried to find out what causes the event but the system logs are rather strange: I do get: The system has returned from a low power state.Sleep Time: ?2016?-?07?-?23T21:07:12.012475900ZWake Time: ?2016?-?07?-?23T21:07:21.793067400ZWake Source: Power Button But I certainly haven't touched the power button, and it seem to be working fine otherwise.

When my Lenovo Yoga 920 is in sleep mode I have two problems which are probably related.  The bluetooth doesn't turn off. All my devices will stay connected to the bluetooth. This can be really annoying because when I need to use a bluetooth device it will connect to my laptop which is not in use before I can get it to connect with my phone or other device.  The other problem is my battery drains too fast when in sleep mode. With my other laptops you could hardly see the battery drain. And this one it drains like 10 percent a day in sleep mode. I am sure the bluetooth probems is mostly to blame.  Is there any way to turn this feature off? When I shut the lid and it goes to sleep, I want it to be fully asleep.

Occasionally during Sleep Mode, the laptop restarts for unknown reasons. But I just noticed that it has restarted when I log in.I'm not sure whether this is caused by background updates of Windows 10, because I don't see a screen with updating or anything. AFAIK, the random restarts happened when the laptop ran on battery mode, but maybe that happens by accident.I already configured in Energy Manager that the hard disk never gets turned off, but that apparently doesn't work. What suggestions do you have to solve this random restart issue, without disabling sleep mode after X minutes?

A:Yoga 910 sometimes restarts during sleep mode

Windows will not update while in sleep mode, since your system is effectively turned off, so that is not the issue. Normally when you system is in sleep mode for a while, it eventually goes into hibernation (writes the data from memory to the hard drive) and shuts off.   This is to preserve the battery, and to prevent data loss should the battery die. The data is written to a hidden file on the root of the C:\ drive called hiberfil.sys, which is usually pretty large, about 6GB or so, and sometimes that file gets corrupted, and cannot be read when you try to resume, and thus the laptop reboot since it has no saved state from which to resume.     To fix that problem, you need to disable hibernation, and then re-enable it by following the steps below.. Disable/re-enable hibernationRight Click on Start and select Command Prompt (Admin)In the Command Prompt (Admin) window, type:  powercfg.exe /h offIt will take a minute or so for the command prompt to return as it deletes the existing hiberfil.sys fileOnce the prompt returns, type: powercfg.exe /h onThe prompt should almost immediately return, and the new hiberfil.sys file has been created.Close the Command Prompt (Admin) window Hope that helps. Cheers,

I suspect the battery level has dropped while I put the computer in sleep mode. This happened after I upgraded the Win 10 to its Anniversary Update version recently. Hi DontLoveWindows, From the information that you have given me, it is showing that you have 2 anti-virus softwares installed. Avast and Norton, that are continuously running when the printer is in sleep mode, which would be draining your power. It also shows that your printer has missing or misconfigured drivers which could be using power as well. Here is an HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers download for your printer. I suggest that you Disable your startup software. To do this: Right click or touch and hold the bottom left corner of the screen and select Run.Type msconfig in the Run box, and then press Enter. The MSconfig window opens. If the User Account Control window opens with the message, Windows needs your permission to continue, click or tap Continue to close the window. If Normal Startup is currently selected, follow these steps:Select Selective Startup, and then clear the Load Startup Items check box.Click or tap the Services tab, and then select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box at the bottom of the screen.Click or tap Disable All.If Selective Startup is currently selected, follow these steps:Click or tap the Services tab, and then select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box at the bottom of the screen.Make a list of the items that are selected. Hi all,

I have an Inspiron 1525 that is one year old. Recently the battery will be completely dead when I try to turn on the laptop and will not power on unless I plug it in. The battery meter will be at 0% when it starts up, but recharges normally when plugged in. When I unplug the laptop and close the lid (which puts it into sleep mode) the battery will be completely dead by the next morning even if it was at 100% before I closed it. I don't know why the battery is discharging completely so quickly when the computer isn't even running.

Could this just be a problem with my battery? Or is the laptop not actually sleeping when I close it, but continually using up battery power? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

A:Laptop battery discharging when in sleep mode

Note there's a difference between "Sleep" vs. "Hibernation"
> Sleep mode still requires power (It should be minimal power but definitely still draws some power)
> Hibernation requires zero power

That said, i still wouldn't expect a good battery to discharge overnight on sleep mode so you probably still have an issue with your battery holding a charge

Hi Hello Just got my new X1 yoga, but even after reading the manual, couldn't figure out how to resume it from sleep? Getting it to sleep easy, lid down, windows menu or F4. When I came back to it, the screen is off, the fingerprit scanner has a light, but I cannot manage to get it back on unless i press 1 or 2 times on the power button, and then it resumes. Any other ways to do it?? I'm used just to press any key/mouse, to get it to resume, my old surface was like that. Sorry for the basic question, but the power button sometime takes as long time, as I think it's restarting the computer. Thank you

A:ThinkPad X1 Yoga how to resume from sleep mode??

Pressing the Fn key might do it if it has only been in sleep mode for a while, but after a period of time set under the power plan setting, it will go into hibernation mode  to save the battery power (it basically writes the system state to a file called hiberfil.sys, and powers off), and in that case you have to press the power button to resume. This might help too even though it does not explicitly mention your model.https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht075624 Take Care,

I am running the latest version of all patchs and BIOS available on Lenovo website and that is the problem, since I updated BIOS, the notebook come back from sleep mode.It goes into sleep mode as expected but when I try to brinr it back, red light goes on (as expected) but the screen keeps black. The only exit I found was to push ON botoon and hard restart it.Now why Lenovo delivered a BIOS version with this problem? Will I be obligated to come back to Dell?I have a 20FY0002US running Windows 10 - latest version - once I formated and reinstalled everything last week

Hi guys,  Got my yoga last month and it's been okay, bit slow to load from sleep but it's done the job. Only thing is its now in a permanent sleep mode. I've tried re-charging it from zero battery, hard reset, putting the lid up and down, combining that with hard reset too. what to do? Do I have to send it somewhere? Obviously I don't want to open the thing up, I'd rather leave that to a professional. cheers.

Hi everyone, I do have a strange issue with a Thinkpad S1 Yoga: after a fresh (clean) install of Win10, I have installed the relevant drivers - including the Lenovo power mgmt driver. So far, everything is ok. However, the device does not enter sleep mode when I am closing the lid. It seems that it rather changes to tablet mode.  After x minutes of inactivity, the devices enters sleep mode - also if I manually select sleep mode via Startmenu. So I think this is related to the detection of the lid function. Any chance to correct this? thanks. best, axeon
