Unable to upgrade Windows 7 which affects upgrading my Epson Scanner and Dell computer.

Q: Unable to upgrade Windows 7 which affects upgrading my Epson Scanner and Dell computer.

I have a couple of problems with Windows 7 such as being unable to upload Upgrades. I then found that I could not upload upgrades for my Dell laptop and wonder if the two recovery discs could be used to get me back to where I am able to fulfil this task.

Preferred Solution: Unable to upgrade Windows 7 which affects upgrading my Epson Scanner and Dell computer.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have thus far been able to get my 4870 scanner working. I have tried the EPSON recommended drivers for Win10 and several versions of Vuescan. The drivers seem to install OK but as soon as the install completes an error message appears stating that there is no scanner attached. If anyone has had a similar problem and gotten it resolved I'd sure like to know how you did it...

Hi Folks. My Epson Scanner 3170 stopped working. Won't start at all. Service dealer wants $$$ just to open it. I would like to open it and try to fix it myself (nothing to lose), but need guidance from someone who knows scanners.

Also, my Dell Laser Printer 1700 claims it has a paper jam. I've worked on it about a zillion times, but there's just nothing in there jamming it. Still gives me the error message. Any suggestions? Could it be that it's 'error message' feature is the thing that's stuck?

Would welcome any suggestions. Many thanks. Maggie

I am thinking of upgrading my system from Win 98 to XP. Do I need to buy new software programs for XP, or can I use the same programs I use in 98 as well?

A:Upgrade from Windows 98 to XP: How it affects Office

Without knowing what programs you refer to, its hard to give any definite answer, but all mainstream programs will be fine (MS Office 97 etc).

XP upgrade comes with a compatability advisor, and if you run it, you will get a report about what hardware and software issues there will be. I have found it to be quite accurate.

Many software packages will run, but need to be re-installed in my experience.

I have a computer running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit with 8GB RAM.

We have an Epson Perfection 2480 Photo scanner, and cannot get the driver to work (we managed to find the Smart Panel software).

I have tried to download the Epson Scan program from the Epson website, but this will not work. Does anyone know how I can get my scanner to work with Windows 7?

I've been experimenting with Windows 10 using a VM (VirtualBox) before upgrading. One challenge has been to see if I could get my old 1999 Epson Perfection 1200 scanner working in Windows 10 since Epson do not provide any 64 bit drivers.
I discovered you can use the Epson 64 bit drivers for the Perfection 2400 and they work fine with the Perfection 1200. The Epson Scan program is fully functional for normal reflective scans and film scanning (if you have the attachment). The built in Windows scan program also works. This fix also works in Windows 8.
Here is how to do it:

Download and install the Perfection 2400U drivers from Epson USA, version 3.04A http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/s...rm=OSF_W_10-64Connect and turn on your scannerRun Device ManagerThe Perfection 1200U will be shown under under Other DevicesSelect Update DriverChoose 'Browse my computer for driver software"Choose 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'UNCHECK the 'Show compatible hardware'Click on 'Epson' in the Manufacturer box, and the scroll down through model until you find "Epson Perfection 2400', and choose that, and press NextIgnore the 'Update Driver warning - choose 'Yes'; to continue to install. The Perfection 2400 will now be shown in Device Manager. Note that the Perfection 1200 will still be shown under Devices & PrintersRun Epson Scan and test the scanner. You may need to log out and log in again for program to work

I have a WorkForce 610. When I try to run the Epson Scan program
I receive an error message telling me that I need a WIA driver.

Yep, lots of those bugs out there.

While I can work around this issue on my Workforce and
have done so in the past, it did not occur to me until
today what the problem is with Windows 7 and these
scanner issues.

I had previously removed the network access to my
Workforce 610 which restored the driver issue. On
Saturday October 15, I decided to reinstall the scanner
drivers and try to get it working over the USB cable
which is the way I want it set up.

AS I was installing the driver, I noticed that the scanner

installed and uninstalled the driver, I decided to run the
scanner setup.exe after the printer driver had been
installed and the system was searching for the printer.
When the warning message came up, I clicked the
install driver anyway button, after the driver had
finished installing, I plugged the machine in and allowed
the system to load the drivers after which everything
worked. I was able to run Epson scan with no problems.
That is, no problems until after I rebooted the system.

The reason Windows 7 won't load the scanner driver is due
to the fact that the scanner is not digitally signed. Both
Microsoft and Epson are at fault with this. Epson for failing

See solution below this post:

I did some toying with my system today and found the following workaround that enabled Epson scan to run over the USB port as long as it runs as administrator.

I found that there is a conflict between Epson scan and the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service. To test this on your system, first log into your administrator account. This will just make it easier since Epson scan will only run as administrator.

Open your services panel:
Start - All programs - Accessories - Services

Click in the list and then press the W key,
This will take you down to the Ws.

Scroll down to Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)

Click the OK button to apply changes and close the properties window.

Hi, having some problems with Windows Default scanner interface. Epson SX410 networked printer (connected to a router and serves a number of PC's, all Win7 64bit).

We have some specific software used to scan customer information into the program, sadly its been designed to use Windows default scanner interface.

The scanner does work through Epson Scan, and a few months ago I had successfully added so it functioned through "Scanners and Camera", accept since then the router has been swapped and for the life of me I can't figure out what, and how I'd managed to do it?

The device is simply not detected by "Microsoft Scan Service".

So the scanner works fine, accept not through the default windows 7 scanning software which is what I need.

Any suggestions?

Ive tried obviously re-adding the printer.

Thanks, James

I could never used my Epson Perfection 2450 Photo Scanner after I got my new computer several years ago with Windows 7 64 bit. After googling for answers and finding one that might work that was third party and around $80, I packed it up and stored it for years in the bottom of my closet. Today I drug it out, thinking of donating it in case someone else can get it to work. It was a great scanner, and would do slides and great high resolution. Now that it is time to upgrade to Windows 10, I'm not sure if it would work on that if I did manage to get it working on my current Windows 7 64 bit. Does anyone have any experience getting their same Epson scanner working on Windows 7 or 10 64 bit? I sure hate to end up junking the scanner!

Hi, I have a Epson Stylus CX4600 Printer/Scanner. I have had this thing for about a year now and since then I have formatted my computer. When I originally installed it it worked fine and installed fine as well. Mind you that the thing did NOT come with the CX4600 Software. It had a piece of paper with directions on how to properly install the scanner/printer. Of course I cannot find the sheet. I have looked every place for the past two days, even Epson Support. I can get the thing to scan & print a picture, as well as print off the computer., but I cannot scan a picture to the computer. Is there a driver or something that is missing? I have tried every driver that Epson has availabale to install for this model. Every thing I read says that I have to put inthe CX4600 Installation Disc......I never had one! LOL.

I just dont know what I am doing wrong, I am really baffled on the issue. Or does someone with that model have any insight on what to do? Or is there someplace where I can get the software?

You need the Twain driver for the scanner. I did a search for "Epson Stylus CX4600 driver" and the link came right up. Once you get the twain driver installed you should be able to use any picture program (Irfanview, PSP, etc) and go to file, acquire and the scanner interface should appear. If you haven’t already done it look up your scanner on the Epson site, go to Drivers & Downloads and get the latest driver. They often fix glitches like you describe when they update the software.

Did it ever work?

In the meantime you can scan from many utilities using the Windows WIA driver. Or you can use it directly by right clicking your scanner in Control Panel > Scanners & Cameras. It won’t do sophisticated stuff like making thumbnails of slides or using advanced controls like the histogram, but you can crop and select resolutions.

A:Does motherboard upgrade affects harddrive

Your Windows XP will most likely not work with a new MB. It's the same as buying a different computer. You can not drop in a Hard Drive with OS from another PC.

If you have your copy of Win XP, you have to call Microsoft and tell them you installed a new MB. They will then ask you if your copy of Win XP Pro is installed on any other computer. If the answer is NO, they give you a code. Use this code do a repair install of Win XP. Your data and programs will still be there.

I believe there is a sticky on this BB with instruction on how to do a Win XP repair install.

Dont delete, dont mess with registry, with simple words, dont touch anything in the registry.
Just uninstall the software\driver.
You have\use Windows 7 32bit so you need 32bit software\driver.
Download everything from this websites, and the 3 of them.

Connect scanner--pc with usb2 cable in any other pc\usb port (not in the same you used before.). Turn on the scanner, turn on the pc.

Install and the 3 software's to fully benefit your scanner abilities.
Try these and post back with results\news.

After numerous attempts, the driver installed, Epson GT-S50. The issue now is that it will not scan. On the display it shows " 01: " (w/o the quotes) when on. However when trying to add this scanner manually to my system via the control panel options it states driver not installed. Pressing the green symbol button (start scan), the power light blinks.

In the systems devices manager area the scanner shows under "other" with a ? mark and the sub entry shows a yellow ! point symbol next to scanner name: Epson Scanner. I am running XP Pro with 512 mg memory on a 2.0 gighertz computer. PLEASE E-MAIL ME at [email protected].

Recently I uninstalled (as completely as I could) a Visioneer scanner (USB) that XP decided not to make drivers for.

I recently purchased an EPSON 2450 (both USB 2.0 AND Firewire compatible). I installed the software FIRST as instructed. I then attached my Firewire and it tried to install a "GT950" scanner. It did NOT find the driver - therefore did not install. I went to the Epson site and found out that the "GT" scanners are the "English versions".

After a frustrating hour (sticking the Firewire into all 3 ports - reversed it, etc.) wouldn't pick up the scanner. Then I thought - I'll try the USB (I only have 1.1 so miss the great speed). It immediately picked up the Epson 2450 scanner. I downloaded the most recent driver. Even after it 'picked it up', I reverted back to the firewire and it wanted to look for the GT series scanner. It gave some strange messages at different times - said I was trying to load a 'dll' file (if I remember correctly) - said it "device was in use" by another device (I have 3 ports - no other device).

Anyway - what do you think the problem is? I went to the Device Manager and everything looks good (except when I hook the firewire, then I get a ? and !). I'm so frustrated...... The firewire cord was brand new (but did not come with the scanner - it was just one I... Read more

This scanner has been a poor performer. I simply cannot get it to scan { open }. I have tried uninstalling it's software and
drivers and reinstalling. This is good only until I shut down the scanner and computer.
When I start up again, same problem .... I cannot access the scanner.
Epson DOES NOT want to hear about it. HELP

A:Epson 1200 U Scanner

I also have an Epson Perfection 1200U scanner which was working fine before I installed a plextor scsi cd-rw drive. Now Win98 gives a windows protection error on bootup if the scanner is on. If the scanner is turned on after bootup, the system freezes. I have tried everything, including removing the scsi card and disconnecting the cd-rw drive, reinstalling the escanfb4.inf file, checking the IRQ's for conflicts, disabling the IRQ holder for PCI steering. At the moment it is one big paperweight. Epson wants me to call them so they can guide me thru some system registery edits.

Anybody know the answer.

Epson DX8400 printer / scanner. When switched on the the scanner reader moves slowly to the right and when it gets to the end stops the drive motor keeps running and the belt keeps clicking on its drive cogs. After a couple of minutes it all stops and displays "A scanner error has occurred, see your documentation".
If i disconnect the reconnet the power the same keeps happening. Does anyone have any ideas please.
Thank you

Here is the last correspondence I had with Epson Australia re a problem they have been trying to sort out for me with no success. Their reply to this E/mail recommends me to take my scanner to a service dept. as they think that it now needs a service, this is in spite of the fact that it was working 2 weeks ago.
I use Windows XP.
Hi Alvin, Thanks for your advice & that from Kim & Tony re my scanner problem but it still hasn't solved my problem.
I must have un-installed all of the Epson programmes from 'Add & Remove' at least 14 times yesterday & re-installed them all from either the Epson web site & my start-up CD disc.
This is what I now have. On 'Current Installed Programmes' I have Epson Copy Utility, Photo Print, Smart Panel & Twain 5.
If I check 'Device Manager' under Imaging Devices I have Epson 1660 &
a diagnostic test tells me that 'the device completed the diagnostic test'! The Hardware Wizard also tells me that "the device is working properly".
If I go into 'My Computer' it shows under Scanners & Cameras, an Epson 1660.
Yet if I try to open any of these places, I get various messages which tell me that, "Cannot detect scanner. Check that it is connected & turned on" or "Scanner software cannot be found, re-install software".
Please do not ask me to un-install or re-install any more Epson
software. I have done it so many times that I can... Read more

I have been using an Epson V500 flatbed scanner with a Windows 10 x64 desk top for a long time and there has been an intermittent problem that is now apparently permanent. When I attempt to scan a slide or negative it acts like it will work and than an error pops up with "cannot connect with scanner" "Make sure the scanner is connected" and so on. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, searched for new drivers and nothing works. I installed the scanner on a Windows 10 laptop and I get the same message. As for possible incompatibility, this has always worked in the past. The latest Windows 10 update is 1803.

Any advise?

Hello, I am new on this forum but I hope I can get some assistance soon. I have an Epson scanner V700, purchased a few months ago. Scanning photos and prints is no problem at all and gives amazing results. However I have tried every possible ways to scan 35mm negative films and all I get is a black page. I uninstalled and reinstalled the software, disconnected and reconnected the cable for the top lid etc. no results.

Do you have any suggestions to offer. Thanks

A:Solved: Epson V33 Scanner

I don't personally own this scanner, but according to the online manual, "If you want to select the location, name, and format for the scanned image, click File Save Settings." In there, you'll see File Name (Prefix + 3 digit number) - you can likely change it there.

having just purchased the epson sx 100 scanner and printer
I am now in a panic as I cant figure out how the d---
inks fit in there
but worse, the scanner won t work... ie the comp and the
scanner are nt communicating !!!!

( Dont bother commenting about the inks, I will have to go back
to the shop and get a demo ( why did nt they demo this when I bought the d.... thing ? )

But the scanner is more worrying.
I installed as per instructions
I click on the microsoft camera and scanner icon
it comes up ok I see a logo and epson written there
I click on it , the usual scanner page comes up
I hit preview and a grey window comes up
... an error has occured, if the scanner is being used
please wait until the task has finished !

I managed to go into twain and select epson
which is now in there

I did a trouble shoot and it said, at the end
your scanner is working normaly etc.

I ve kinda hit a brick wall with this

Im on XP whether that makes a difference

maybe this is something to do with that mysterious twain
I dont know... is it to do with xp ?

But the scanner is sat here, and I cant print and I
can t scan

thanks for any suggestons

PS why does nt Epson set up a forum like this ?

Did you install the software from the accompanying CD? I had a similar problem with Epson.

If yes Uninstall the current Software using Revo

I use Revo Uninstaller as it removes all traces of software left behind by the built-in uninstallers and will run eevn if the built-in uninstaller fails. Assuming of course you can still see the program in Add Remove Programs.

It sets a Restore Point first, is completely safe and I've used it hundreds of times on both mine and customer's PCs and Laptops.

Download it from http://www.revouninstaller.com

Open Revo, right click the program you wish to uninstall and choose ADVANCED method.

Then go to http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/SupportIndex.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&expansion=0100000 (assuming you are in USA)

I have an Epson GT-S50 scanner. Works well but I really dislike the interface of the software that came with the scanner. WAY too many clicks to scan something. It is a TWAIN and I need TWAIN for a particular software that I'm scanning the docs into, so I have to retain that feature.

I'd like to replace the software that came with the Epson.

First Question: Can anyone recommend a favorite scanner software with a simple interface?

Second question: Should I uninstall the Epson scanning software when I install the replacement? I downloaded a trial of VueScan. If I start that app to do a scan, it works. My tax software has a Document Manager that I want to continue to use. However when I start my scan from within the Doc Manager, I haven't figured out a way to make it stop looking to the Epson interface. So thinking that I need to uninstall

I really hope what I'm asking makes sense. Please ask me if I haven't been clear. And thanks for any help!
