Windows 8.1 HDMI cable must plug twice to get sound on TV

Q: Windows 8.1 HDMI cable must plug twice to get sound on TV

i have Asus X450JF with windows 8.1 pro 64bit. everytime i turn on the laptop, and i plug the HDMI cable, there is no sound on my TV even in the playback devices. i unplug and replug the cable then the sound appeared on my TV. i already tried many drivers (from intel and the asus manufactured drivers) but i still to plug twice the cable to get the sound on my TV.
is this a bug or there is something wrong with the HDMI?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

No other HDMI device (monitor/TV) to test? Tried a different cable? It could be the TV not detecting it until it gets the hand shake by plugging the cable in.

Hi, Evan: Does your notebook have the Intel HD graphics? If so, In the device manager, under the sound, video and game controllers device manager category, do you see two High Definition audio devices listed--one IDT HD audio and one Intel HD audio? Or do you see one IDT HD audio and one generic HD audio device listed.

when connected to lg monitor with hdmi cable i get no sound

A:when connected to lg monitor with hdmi cable i get no sound

The issue here is that HDMI cables, as the name indicates, carry audio signals to the monitor. Therefore if the monitor has no built in speakers then there will be no sound. If you have external speakers you can plug them into the audio out slot on the back of the monitor and the problem will be solved. However, if the screen does have built in speakers you need to go Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Manage Audio Devices and set either your headphone jack or the screen to be the default device. And then you ca pick which device the sound will play from. Either yourlaptop speakers or whateer speakers are plugged into the laptop or the Monitor and whatever speakers are plugged into the monitor

? just changed my video card. I could take sound from my ex-card with hdmi cable to my lcd tv. But with this new card i cant. How can i fix this. My new video card is "palit geforce 9600 super+ 1gb". And i plug yo audio cable from my motherboard to video card.

A:I have GeForce 9600 GT 1GB but i cant take sound with HDMI cable

Right next the SLI connector on the card you should see a small white 2 pin socket.
With the card you should also have a small cable (S/PDIF) with the corresponding white plug at one end. That fits into the white socket and the other end which has two single black pins attaches to the S/PDIF out header on your motherboard.
Once this connected up you will have sound over HDMI.

On this page http://tech.icrontic.com/articles//palit-9600gt-hd3850/2/ , the cable is shown (along with the other accessories) in picture 2 -the thin cable on the left.

As the title says, I've tried connecting my TV to my computer with an HDMI cable, and the video part works, but no sound plays. When I checked the list of playback devices, the TV appeared (as shown below), but it apparently cannot play sound.

I don't think I know anything beyond what I've posted, but if anyone could help me out with this, I would appreciate it.

Also, as a side note - I am completely unable to interact with any of these objects - I cannot set something as a default device; there is no response when I do it, and disabling the audio device only works until current sources of sound (like videos) are restarted.

I recently tried hooking my HP G60 laptop up to my 50in Element plasma tv using a VGA cable to take movies that I have downloaded on my laptop and watch them on the tv to sort of do away with having to burn the movies onto a DVD. I had no luck with the VGA cable as I got no picture what so ever on the tv. So I went out and purchased a HDMI cable after do much research on the internet on what was the best option to hook your computer up to your High Def tv and found that using an HDMI cable was a great option as you can achieve video and sound from one cable (or so I had thought).

I hooked the cable into the HDMI slot 1 on the back of my plasma and into the HDMI port on my laptop. I can get perfect picture, but I have yet to achieve any sound coming out of the tv, I was of course able to get sound out of the laptop speakers but when I did some searches online of ways to get the sound to transfer over to the tv speakers, everything that I tried left me still with no sound. I have did endless searches with basically almost every search that I do or forum that I read on giving a different answer or way to go about it, and I am basically stuck about to give up and need some guidance or insight or something.

I'm not fabulous or a genius on computers but I am pretty decent at them so I will do my best to answer anything that I may need to. Just please be gentle

Thanks in advance!!

Hey guys,
Just picked up a used slimline PC and installed XP. I wanted to use it lile a little media box, so I installed a heigh height Nvidia 9300se from another PC into this one...the card has HDMI out. Looks great on the plasma, but I get no sound.

When I look at the board, there is a little 3 pin connector and the same 3 pin connector can be seen on the video card. I'm guessing I need a 3 pin to 3 pin cable? Right on the board it says "SPDIF_OUT2" and on the card it says input.

Here is a pic of the board, same connector is on the video card:

Am I on the right path to getting audio over my HDMI connection? Where do I get such a cable? I googled but the cables I saw look like 2 pin connectors.

Thanks for your help!

Hey guys! Quick question.

I'm trying to capture/record sound - not from my microphone though; I'm trying to capture what's coming through the speakers. This wouldn't generally be an issue, however the problem is that my monitor is a High Definition TV.

Basically this means that when I open Recording devices, I see 'Stereo Mix', but no sound actually comes through there as I don't use speakers, but rather HDMI from my GFX card (yes, it carries the sound too). I can select SHARP HDMI TV as the output device, but I can't set it as the input device. If I change output to Realtek digital, then I can record (via setting input to 'Stereo Mix') but it's useless as I can't hear anything at all. -_-

So the question is, how can I capture sound directly from the source, if my TV's speakers are the sound output device?
NOTE: I am already showing disabled and disconnected devices on the list, and all of my drivers are up-to-date.

Cheers.

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790
GFX: nVidia GeForce GTX 780 Ti
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 32 GB

A:Solved: Capture Sound Directly Using HDMI Cable

Hi KaILLERa-Ninja, and welcome to TSG.

HDMI ports are not usually bidirectional and are either input or output only. Typical HDMI ports on computers are output only.

Does your TV have any kind of headphone or RCA line level audio output jacks?

What is the source of the audio that is playing through the speakers?

This is frustrating because I want to watch movies on my TV through my laptop and get the feel of some surround sound through the HiFi speakers but it is not working!!!!

Please Help!

A:No sound to HiFi speakers when HDMI Cable Connected

The problem is not your PC but your TV and how it handles HDMI audio. There is nothing we can do for this, it is strictly an issue with your TV and how it routes audio internally (or to external devices).

Speakers
Realtek Digital Output (Optical)
Realtek HDMI Output
Digital Output device (HDMI)

and next to each one listed is like a sound meter, the only one thats active is the speakers at the top which im guessing is the laptop speakers.

I'm supposed to connect an S/PDIF cable between my soundcard and my graphics card to enable the sound to work on my HDMI cable (between comp and TV).

However, there is no such jack on my soundcard, which is an outdated Soundblaster Audigy Platinum.

For anyone who wants to help, the manual is here.

Can someone help me do something about this? I wish to keep this soundcard.... or at the last resort, buy a new soundcard which will solve this problem, but its gotta be cheap, and has something to connect to the front like my current soundcard, which takes .25" headphone jacks....

A:S/PDIF cable into Graphics card to enable sound in HDMI

I'm not an expert in this area but does your graphics card have an HDMI output connector at the back? If so, you don't need your sound card. HDMI carries both HD video and HD sound. If your TV has an HDMI input, you just connect the HDMI cable from the graphics card.

Like the title says, I encounter this weird problem when I plug in the Ethernet cable to my Ethernet card. Like the title says, I encounter this weird problem when I plug in the Ethernet cable to my Ethernet card. The card seemed to work fine, but just to be sure I installed a different card and still get the same problem. I think it might have something to do with windows auto detecting the connection or something similar. I have never encountered this error before so I have no clue what to do! Oh, BTW I'm working on a different computer than the one I'm on right now posting this. Just out of curiosity, are you connected 24/7 as for dsl line, or are you dial-up, and do you plug in the ethernet cable while the system is live, or do you do it while the system is turned off.

Plug in the cable while the system is turned off, or reboot your computer with the cable connected. When the OS reboots, it should be able to detect that the cable is not disconnected from the ethernet hardware and boot successfully.

You should also check the ethernet card mfg website for an up-to-date driver for your ethernet card to make sure it has the latest driver.

Hope this helps,
