I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just received a new T470 and installed a 256GB M.2 2242 HD. However, the computer is not recognizing the HD.  I saw another thread mentioning that Bios version 1.30 gave some issues, but checking my system, I have 1.28. Do I need to upgrade to 1.29? Or is there something else I need to do? Thanks!

I recently downloaded the Windows 10 update, and it installed fine. I then downloaded a driver app which updated most of my drives for me, a few weeks later I encountered WHEA errors whenever I would watch videosWhen the errors stopped occuring, I was unable to receive any Wifi Signal (only Ethernet Network was available), the driver for the wireless connection apparently 'dissapeared' and it seems that the computer is not able to detect the Wifi card anymore...I have tried downloading all the necessary drives for the wifi card, also tried to roll it back from windows 10 to the OS it came with (win8), all to no avail...Any help?

Hello everyone,i'll try to give the most details i can.I just bought a 2nd hand t470s, and started by reinstalling windows from a usb bootable win10 i had at home.Everything worked fine except for the wifi card : i dosnt show anywhere. i cant see it on the device manager, its not greyed out nor hidden. Everything up to date, from windows update, to single driver update from the device manager, the intel update tool or even all the lenovo support drivers.I finally asked the support for a clean win10 pro update using my serial number. reinstalled everything clean, but still no wifi card detected. I switch with a killer 1535 from my other laptop : the ac 8265 worked on my other laptop, but i couldnt get the killer 1535 to work on my 470s (i could see it in the devicer manager but kept getting greyed out..).I spent the last 4 days on it and i feel like i read all the google pages that couldve helpt me.

For starters, I´m not a PC or IT expert so I´ll just explain my problem as I know it:I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T470s and I´m trying to open the files on an USB pendrive. When I connect the pendrive to one of the usb ports, the pendrive is clearly connect (light on) but the PC doesn´t open it.I´ve look all over and can´t find something like "connected devices" or something that would meet the same effect.I´ve found all sorts of troubleshooting on the community concerning connecting phones through USB but haven´t found anything on recognizing or accessing a pendrive´s content. Can someone please help. Bare in mind that my knowledge is very basic. Thanks a million!

Hello Lenovo Community, We are having a funny issue with Lenovo T470s. We are currently having a Thunderbolt docking station that has the following setup:2nd screen: VGA - Dell E2216H3rd screen: HDMI - Samsung HD TV for projection Issue: When the Samsung HDTV is off, if we mount the T470s onto the docking station, nothing happens, the laptop doesn't even detect the second screen (Dell) and vice versa. But if we turn on the Samsung HDTV, the laptop sees both and works properly. After this, if we turn off the 3rd screen (Samsung), the laptop still sees the 2nd screen like normal only that it dectes screen 1 as screen 1|3. Anyone has any idea how to fix this? We have 5 T470s in the company and all the other ones have the same exact set up. This one is the only one that has problem. It's mundane but sometimes can be annoying if the user is in the wrong mood.

Hello,

I own a HP Pavilion Tablet with Vista Business. I haven't noticed it until just recently that the CD-ROM drive disappeared off device manager. In an attempt to remedy the problem (hoping it was a software problem), I do what I usually do: rstrui. When recent restore dates didn't work, I turned the clock back the oldest state I had, which was back in late September. Next thing I knew, it wouldn't boot properly. It would pass the initial stage but would eventually end up on a blank screen. However, the cursor is visible (and movable). I can't progress through this point. BIOs is unreachable and it cannot boot from CD. I am unsure as to how to proceed from here. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

A:Unable to Boot; Unable to detect CD

First and foremost, read your manual as to how to do a system recovery. There will be a key or key combo to hit when powering up like F11 or whatever. This starts the system recovery.

Note many of these will overwrite ALL data on the drive. If there is info you need ie work files, data files, etc; I would pull the drive and slave it to a working system. Copy whatever data you need. Reinstall the drive and do the recovery.

I just purchased an old 486 66 mhz computer. It was cheap and it was just something to play with. It came with two hard drives. Both hard drives work and they are able to hold information and I plugged them both into my 400mhz pentium II computer and loaded win 98. I put one hd on the 486 computer and it boots up. (slowly but it boots up) then I try the other hard drive and whenever it tries to boot up it gets the error, 'unable to auto detect hard disk'. I think it might have something to do with the bios or something. I tried going into the setup and and it won't let me enter in the information for the hard disk. (1056 cylinders 16 heads, etc...)

What's going on here??? Please assistance....

Many older BIOS can't handle larger hard drives.

You can get around this using software, like EZDrive. You can get it for free from the utility section of my website.
www.rkfdcore.com

This will create a boot disk - just set BIOS to drive type 1, boot with this disk, and let it configure the drive.

I have three PC's connected via a Linksys router (WRT54G), one wireless connection. I am using a shared dial-up internet connection, so have specificed IP addresses for the computers and router. I have just added a Linksys NSLU2 with a USB hard drive. The setup software is unable to detect the NSL. NSL is powered on and indicates "ready."

I have checked the manual, and it indicates that the NSL and computer must be on the same segment (which I do not understand) and that TCP-IP must be installed on the PC, which it is. There are no KB articles on the Linksys site for this.

What do I do next?

Hi Pam,

In networking, a definition of a network segment is one limited-access portion of a larger network. For your purposes, you are limited to an ethernet segment.

So, the first question is where did you plug in the NSL? Since it needs to be on the same ethernet segment as the computer, plug it in as you would a 4th PC i.e. to the built-in 4-port full duplex 10/100 switch.

Next, whereever you previously specified the IP addresses for the 3 computers and Linksys router, add a new IP for the NSL. With the IP address for the NSL added, then you should be able to get the setup to work.

For reference from Linksys website:

Got some probs with my 500gig Seagate SATA drive. XP crashed on me (again) four nights ago - BSOD unable to boot even into safe mode after attempting to install Nortons AV 2009. I formatted the disk and installed XP, then when the computer restarted I noticed I only had 130gig (the partition size for C drive). Restarted and accessed BIOS, it shows up as 500gig.

Used HDD wipe tool to wipe the drive and partition information. Then used EASUES Partition Manager to partition the drive into four partitions and format to NTFS.

Tried setup again, once more XP can only access the 130gig partition.

Currently booting off a spare 80gig HDD (Master 2) with 500gig HDD set as Master 3.

Any ideas what to try next or help to get full capacity?

I just bought a new HP Pavillion desktop, and it came with a LITE-ON PCI Express wireless-n adapter using a Ralink driver. I have updated the driver to the latest version. The problem is I cannot connect to the 802.11n network I have set up. I can connect just fine to the 802.11g network (I'm using a Netgear dual band router). I have a laptop on the n network, and I get a signal just fine next to my desktop. I have tried the diagnostic tools packaged with the HP, and it says everything is fine on my adapter, but so far, no signal. My suspicion is that the n band is somehow not set up to work in it's default settings. These are the current driver settings, but changing them has not helped anything:

Adhoc support for 802.11n = disabled
Country region 2.4 ghz = #0 (1-11)
Country region 5ghz = #7 (36-165)
IEEE 802.11h = disabled
Multimedia/Gaming environment = disabled
Powersaving mode = MAX_PSP
Radio on/off = enabled

Anyone have any ideas on how I can check to see if the n part of my wireless n adapter is working or turned on?

Thanks,
Mike

Hey!, Have any of you out there ran into this sorta problem because I for some reason am having difficulties in trying to figure out why my RCA Lyra RD1028A Mp3 player isn't detecting the memory chip that I bought seperately for this player. Not sure If its an internal problem with the mp3 player or if its just the memory chip itself? I couldn't tell you, I wish I knew why this is happening because memory chips don't run all that cheap these days and I really don't want to have to get another one. So If any of you out there have the same model as me and have ran into this sort of problem than I'd be more than appreciative to hear your comments or advise on what I should do or try! Hey there, I have an Emachines 14170 w/ winxp home.

It went unused for nearly 2 months while unplugged.

Today, I plugged it in to format the harddrive and reinstall windows XP pro, and The computer will only beep for 10 second or so intervals. No display or anything.

The disc drive still ejects and the like, so I asked a techy friend, and he said the best problem would be it was bumped while unplugged and a few wires are loose inside. Second best would be it may need a replacement battery. And it could very well be a memory problem.

Is there a non-intrusive way to fiddle with this before I crack the case? I've never opened up a system and I'm hesitant to do so.

I've used Malwarebytes, Spybot, Avast and I've tried manual removal of the viruses that had actually been found, which were Hiloti and Ertfor, though those are no longer being detected, the symptoms are still there. A:HARD DRIVE unable to detect !

The hard drive may have failed so you need to test it with the drive manufacturer's diagnostic software. The links are here: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

If you can connect the drive to another PC on which Windows is working, you can download & install the Windows version of the diagnostic software.

If you can't do that, put the drive back in the original PC it belongs to, then download the DOS version of the diagnostic software and, on a working PC, make a bootable CD from the downloaded ISO file using IMGBurn from here: Download ImgBurn 2.5.5.0 - FileHippo.com

Now use that CD to boot from, on the PC which contains the faulty hard drive.
The testing software will appear automatically. Select the hard drive and run the "long test". If after a while you see the word "Failed", the drive is no good & you'll have to buy a new one.

I got 2 malicious processes: mssearchnet.exe and nvctrl.exe in my task manager, and a little googling has identifed the virus in my PC as the Zlob virus.

(Killing the processes doesn't work, it just relaunches immidiately.)

About 15 mins after start up, it would add a new icon in the tray, alerting every 10 to 20 seconds that spyware is detected and later, about half and hour, it plants "Spyware Strike" into the system. Not wanting to know what it does next, I uninstalled the Spyware Strike, but it keeps coming back after a while.

Unfortunately, my AVG anti-virus doesn't seem to recognize it, countlessly scanning the directory it infected with no effect. I also done a full system scan and it doesn't identify it at all.

So now comes the difficult part of Removal... which I am afraid I might ruin something by altering the registry, (and because some parts of the removal doesn't addresses the msseachnet.exe) or cause an entire system failure.

Can someone point me in the right direction of safely removing them from the system & registry? I can work with the virus, performance barely takes any hits, but it is just annoying to see "System Alert: Popups, your computer is infected with spyware managing popups..." popping up every 20 seconds.

Hello, welcome to the forums. Usually people don't buy Win 7 ultimate, and if you have installed your copy illegally (ie for free), then that is your problem.

However, if it is legal, I'll try to help you out as best I can. If you have a bad copy, don't waste my time, the issues will persist no matter what I suggest. Here we go:

We'll start by filling out system specs: how-to

Hi,
Recently my DELL inspiron N5010 DVD RW is not detecting any audio or data disks(CD or DVD). I checked its drive in 'device manager' it's working fine. Can it be hardware problem? Plz help for my problem.... thanking you...

A:DVD RW drive unable to detect disks.

Yes it can be a hardware problem. It may just need to be cleaned (with a cleaning disk), but it is very common for optical drives to fail. If it's a tray style drive, they are easily replaced, search amazon or eBay for a new one. If it is a slot loading drive, they are much harder to replace, but it can be done.

This PC started having erratic behavior, then everything went downhill. Sometimes it will boot up into Windows, but quickly freeze up, with no response at all, no choice but to force reboot. Most of the time it will not reboot at all, giving me a message to select a boot drive. The BIOS appears to be correct, but it seems that the PC cannot detect any drives at all, in order to boot up. I just selected F9 on boot-up, which runs the HP Diagnostic Tools prior to boot-up which gave the following report: CPU checked good, memory checked good, but the Diagnostic Tools gave me an error code BIOHD-2 and said "No drives detected."

I have replaced the optical drive, even tried another hard drive, same result. It seems the PC is losing any way of communicating with all the drives. Occasionally it evidently can detect the drives, but when it does, it boots up, but then freeze up. Most times, it cannot detect any drives at all.

I have removed the CPU, re-seated it, cleared the BIOS, after this did initially make it find the drives. But when it booted up, back to the same freeze up, then unable to find the drives again, so it seems nothing changed.

Could this be a SATA controller failure? If so, will a PCI SATA controller card work to use for all the computer drives, or would it be too slow?

You don't specifically mention the cables. Did you swap them for known good cables ??
Try your known good HDD with no ODD connected.

Other than that, it does sound like a bad controller on the MoBo.

Good luck with it.

Hello all,
I'm testing ATA for a couple of weeks now. I have successfuly raised a lot of alerts based on the list of functionnalities of ATA but I'm not able to rise alert for golden tickets.
I'm using mimikatz for retrieving the password hash of the krbtgt account (the alert "malicious replication" is raised). I created a a ticket with the command "kerberos::golden" and I loaded successfuly a ticket from a domain admin account.

I accessed to the admin shares of a domain controller, I have removed/added members from domain admins group. I have no alert from ATA.
I'm using lightweight agent on all domain controllers and the kerberos audit is enabled (4776).

Hello,

I recently updated the drivers for my video card, NVIDIA's discrete GeForce GT 335M, and afterwards I was unable to get my monitor to display anything. My laptop screen is broken so I use a standalone monitor with VGA cables for my display. So after this I tried the obvious troubleshooting, using my fn key to switch between displays and holding the windows key + P to pick the projector option, both to no avail. I then started windows in safe mode and rolled back the most recent driver update for the video card. Since then my laptop does not detect the video card, like it is gone. I still have the updates installed, NVIDIA Control Panel still exist but says no card is detected.

Also I can not get BIOS to run on boot, possibly because my monitor won't display anything until it gets to the windows home screen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks,

Shawn

Get your Laptop screen fixed first.
You may need to spend less than $100, I guess.

Hello,

I own Gateway computer - DX Series DX4320-19 Desktop PC Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Recently my wireless internet crashed. I had D-Link Dir-615 and when I tried to re-install it, I kept getting a message "Unable to detect wired connection. Please check the connection between your computer and the router and try again".
I checked and tried multiple times and nothing. I also tried using different cables.
So, I decided that perhaps my router is the problem and purchased a new router (ASUS RT-AC660U). So, $189 later I get the very same message.
When I skip the router and connect just through the modem (D-Link DCM-202) the internet works no problem.
Does anyone have a solution? Is it Windows 7 that is the problem? Any and all help is very appreciated!

Thank you

Hello, I used Spybot Search and Destroy. It didn't find anything, and I ran my Comodo, AVG, and my Threatfire but they also found nothing(All of them are updated). Although while I ran a scan on SpyBot S&D at the bottom where it name's what it's scanning, I saw the names of several trojans/viruses. At first I ignored it but after a while, I tried downloading updates for my Windows 7 Intel Premium (64 bit), but it wouldn't let me update, it said something was wrong with the Visual C++ 2008, but before I got the trojans it worked fine. I tried redownloading Visual C++ 2008 but it wouldn't work. How do I remove these trojans. Also Hijackthis log detected alot of things. So I'll post my log here before, deleting anything. (ps, I have a feeling the virus or trojan corrupted, alot of the registry and etc.)Please, help, and Thankyou in advance.

I'm pretty sure I've got some kind of virus or whatever hidden somewhere in my computer because I find an excessive amount of spyware every time I boot up, but whenever I do a scan the programs I'm using never find anything except more spyware. I've also tried doing scans in safe mode, but that yielded no results as well. The programs I've used are:

AVG Anti-Spyware
AVG FREE Anti-Virus
Ad-Aware SE Personal
AntiVir PE Classic
Spybot Search & Destroy

On top of that, my computer is beginning to do some strange things. For example, my computer had apparently set the "folder options" all on its own so that extentions would show in known file types. As a result, I could not rename any files without rendering them useless unless I included their file extention in with their file name. I just rechecked the box to hide the extentions, but when I attempted to restore my computer to an earlier point using msconfig to help avoid any similar small problems, the process failed. I made three attempts, all for separate restore points, and all of them failed. This seems to be more evidence of some sort of malware hiding on my computer, but I'm not sure.

At one time shortly after the beginning of October AVG FREE Anti-Virus had found a trace of some kind of trojan called SHeur.QSN, file name 4D15C3F1d01, but, as I've said, it had labeled the thing as only a "trace" and not the actual trojan. Not sure if this really means anything. And about a week ago AntiV... Read more

I had a bunch of slowdown and glitch problems recently, I've had glitchy problems with Dell software since the beginning, it's changed over time as Dell updates its own software automatically, including freezes and crashes (not to mention the root cert vulnerability a while back), so I just uninstalled as much as I could, and the problems mostly went away, but now I've noticed the Sleep option is gone from power options, I can only shut down and hibernate now.
(Screenshot at bottom of post)
I went in to Dell support to see what I needed to install again, and it guided me to the Dell System Detect download launcher, which now crashes. I tried uninstalling all of the remaining Dell software (Data Protection, Power Manager (which had no Hibernate/Sleep options anyways), but not Touchpad), and it says DDP needs other things uninstalled first...
I just need a normal Windows 7 experience, I want the absolute base minimum Dell software necessary to have that experience without all the Dell bugs and problems... what do I do now?

Hello, I hope someone can help me with this one... My system is definitively infected but didn't find any scanner able to detect it and have no clue on how to get rid of it..

I am running winXP sp3 and there are a bunch of random_number.exe in my local settings temp. I ran Panda, Trend Micro, Kapersky, Spybot and SuperAntispyware but none of them was able to detect anything wrong.. I then looked at the registry and found 2 suspicious entries :

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Win32 Firewall] C:\DOCUME~1\Daniel\LOCALS~1\Temp\582.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Win32 Firewall] C:\DOCUME~1\Daniel\LOCALS~1\Temp\582.exe

Then I rebooted in safe mode to delete the content of the temp folder and to delete these 2 registry entires. I also ran the superantispyware but it found nothing..

When I rebooted to XP one random_number.exe file was back in the temp folder and the 2 registry entries were also put back... Every 10 to 20 minutes a new random.exe file is added to the temp folder. One other thing is that the virus is modifying the IE proxy settings to point to 127.0.0.1:5757, and the setting is always coming back..

I didn't find anything about a virus putting a "win32 firewall" entry in the registry..If I can at least find the "name" of the virus it will probably be easier to find how to get rid of it.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi all

I Just bought a Dell Inspiron 7000 gaming laptop (7559 I think) but the backlit keyboard isn't working.
I tried to hit fn - ->, fn f10 fn f7
I also tried to activate the backlit via Bios but there is no such option.

Can you help me how to activate this.?

A:Unable to detect the backlit keyboard

When you first turn on the system, the backlight will flash on for a brief time.  If you don't see that either:
1. The system doesn't have a backlit keyboard (they're not standard on all models),
2.  The backlight is bad.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.
Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?

Let's see this as well.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
