I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone

I have been having troubles with gaming over the past month, with errors occurring here and there while gaming.
When going to "Performance information and Tools" I noticed that my Gaming graphics is rated at 2, which is totally impossible, as it used to be above 6 when I purchased this laptop a year ago.

NOTE: for some reason it states I only have 1 Graphics Card, even though I have 2x NVIDIA GTX 560M in SLI. I have also experienced some fatal errors related to my Nvidia cards, stating something in the lines of "nvidia kernel device stopped responding". Cannot remember the exact error message.

Any help appreciated, because on this machine I should be able to play a lot of games on high graphics still, yet just a couple of days ago WoW started lagging 30 minutes into a gaming session with GPU temps of 75.

A:Bad performance. Gaming performance rated at 2. Help please!

Hi and welcome to TSG.

The first thing I notice is that your Windows installation is almost 2 years out of date, you don't have SP1 installed which was released in January 2011, so subsequently are probably missing numerous updates, patches and fixes for Windows itself.

Have you cleaned out the vents and heatsinks? Dust build up will increase heat which will in turn reduce performance.

I had installed 64-bit Windows 8 (not 8.1) and it was awesome in performance while playing games. I enjoyed playing many games like Black Mesa, Half Life etc. Now I have switched to other computer who have 32-bit of Windows 8.1. Windows 8.1 is awesome but it gets slow for some time when I quit the game. That was not the case in 64-bit Windows 8.
Is 64-bit operating system is better in performance if you are a gamer?? That's what I want to know so I can switch to other computer for gaming. I switched to this computer because of its higher specification but it comes with pre-installed Windows 8.1 32-bit.

A:Is 32-bit better for performance in gaming on 64-bit?

Hi Faisal6309,

It depends on your system and how much RAM you have installed to whether or not you are going to see the benefit. This is because with a 32bit(x86) operating system your computer is only going to be able to use a maximum of 4gb. This cannot be said for when you have a 64bit machine it can use a far higher Ram profile.

So if you are gaming with more than 4gb of ram than you are going to better performance running the 64bit operating system then you would with 32bit. for example running a 32bit operating system when you have greater than 4gb of Ram is like buying a 3 litre car and putting a limiter on it making it only be able to use 1 litre.

This is not just limited to gaming though you are going to see benefit of using 64bit architecture doing heavy work load tasks

Which is better: The XPS 8700 or the Alienware X51? They have similar specs so I think the XPS 8700 would be better since it has a bigger case which means better cooling. (At default configs)

When you post a thread like this you should post links to the full specs of the two machines, or better, post a screenshot of the full specs side by side. If it is easy folks will take a look, if you want a personal shopper then that is by the hour!

Hi there everyone. recently ive noticed that my PC is giving crappy perfomance in certain games.
This is usually in the form of choppy gameplay not constantly but just every so often, or (as in the case with C&C Generals: Zero Hour) when it gets to the point where the frame rate must be something like 1-5fps in otherwords, unplayable.

My system specs are this:

P4 1.7GHz
384MB of RDRAM
Geforce 4 Ti4200
120GB Maxtor HDD

ive used several spyware removing progs to remove spyware not related to Kazaa (won't work without it) and am using Cacheboost to try and sort out any RAM use problems but it just hasn't helped. Defragging the HDD didnt help either, although I have several different partions on it and defragged them all.

Got any ideas??

Many thanks

Was wondering if you pros could build me the best machine i can get for 1500$ given what I need :

What are you going to use the PC for?

Working with postgresql databases

How much is your budget?

Where are you located? (a.k.a. fill out your profile)

Are you willing to buy online?

Are you going to re-use any parts from an earlier build?

Do you need other peripherals like a monitor, keyboard and mouse, among others?

Have you already bought any parts?

Do you have an Operating System (OS)?

Will you need any aftermarket cooling, such as a CPU\GPU cooler or a watercooling setup?

Cpu cooler cause i will try to overclock. I also need a SSD.

Thanks a lot.

I'm willing to buy on ncix since they can assemble it for me and they have pricematching system.

Hey guys. Just joined the website

I was wondering about a few things .. and well nothing better then posting an issue on a community like this one. Hopefully someone can teach me something.

But basically.. I recently installed vista ultimate. everything works great. I mean reading how some seem to have problems. Im glad everything's fine

THis is my operating system specs.

Processor AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+, 2010 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)

Im playing games such as NHL 08 .. and i mean im not saying this is the BEST pc out there, but i am expecting somewhat better performance

Playing on the overhead cam... and it seems laggy . cutting sort of.

I have tried my drivers and all .. everything is up today

ONly thing i dont see is where the SLI seems to be on the new drivers..

IS there anyone who can advice me how to check this SLI

Hi everybody,

for months I have been trying to solve one of the biggest mysteries in my computer histories: why is Windows 7 so much slower concerning games than Win XP?

1) I am running Win XP and Win 7 in the same computer, only installed on two different hard discs. So both recur to the same hardware (Geforce 285 GTX driver 260.99, E 8500 @ 3,8 GHZ, 4 GB Ram, Audigy 2 sound card etc.)

2) I have been trying World in Conflict, GTA IV, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Supreme Commander 2, Starcraft 2 etc.

3) All games run unter Windows XP about 30 to 40 % faster, also when using the DX9-Mode unter Win 7. Some examples:

- the World in Conflict benchmark gives me in WIn XP 59 fps average, in WIn 7 39 fps average - with the exact same settings. During the benchmark I especially note much larger framedrops etc.

- GTA IV: comparable scenes that have unter Win XP about 45 fps, under Win 7 27 fps

- Supreme Commander 2: large massing battles get unter Win 7 almost unplayable, under Win XP it still works fine
All this is puzzling me considerably. How can this be? Shouldn?t Win7 not have a better gaming performance? I have even read tests that showed that for example World in Conflict runs smoother and better with Win 7.

Using benchmark programs like furmark or the analytical benchmark Sisoft Sandra, it gets even more puzzling: here the results are equal to Win XP, and in some cases even better.

So: excellent desktop performance, equal to better benchmark performance compared to W... Read more

A:Bad gaming performance under Win 7 (compared to Win XP)

Have you updated all drivers (64bit ones) for your system?
Not just graphics, but Audio, chipset etc.

Also, have you updated DirextX?
You do need to do this, even for the DX9 files.

Being 30-40% slower is a clear indication something is wrong.

Hey all,

Well I added My computers Information with my account so I won't post again

the problem is that Aero themes slows down my computer although there is nothing

wrong with my hardware, I downloaded the Nvidia 186.81_notebook_win7_winvista_32bit_international_whql

and installed it (it enhanced speed a little but not for long after restarting couple of times it got slower and now even any video I play the video is slower than the audio

and any program I open is slow and has a periodic glitch every few seconds that you can see in the loading icon of the windows pointer

anyway I snapshot the ram, cpu and harddisk

A:General Low Performance (without gaming)

What is this registrybooster.exe. That looks suspicious to me. Did you install any "enhancements"? If yes, get rid of them.

I bought a Radeon 9600PRO 256MB 128-bit DDR AGP Video Card, and a gig of ram. Before I couldn't play any games but now I can, so I bought the Sims 2 and installed it since my computer meets the minimum specs. Graphics are okay, but the game performance is extremely slow. This is the only game I have so I have nothing else to test my computer with.

I've tried everything to speed it up - defragmenting, disk cleanup, deleting a few gigs of my stuff, but it's still really slow. I also downloaded the recent drivers from the ATI website. I'm guessing that it's because of my harddrive. It has 40 gigs, but I'm already using up 28 gigs with 12 gigs of free space. Help, please?

My system specs:
Window XP home edition
2.4 ghz Intel Celeron processor
1 gig of DDR400 pc-3200 RAM
The said video card
40 gb hardrive (12 gb free space)

A:Really slow gaming performance

Hi mate...

I was able to run this game in a machine about the same specs as yours:

Athlon XP 2400+ (Better than your celeron)
Radeon 9600SE 128MB (Much worse than your PRO)
I also had a 40GB HDD with at least half of it full...

When you say the game is running slow you mean it's lagging?
Did you try to lower graphics settings a little and see if performance gets better?
The Celeron is somewhat slow but should be more than enough to run Sims 2 as the game only needs an 800Mhz PIII...

Do you load expansions or mods or just the original SIMS 2?

Again my best guess is that if you play around with graphics options you will get a descent speed. Disable AntiAliasing and Anisotropic Filtering if they are enabled and try lowering a little texture settings.

As of late, i am experiencing a considerable drop in performance when playing various games. I am using an Alienware M15x notebook with the following specs..

Win 7 Home Premium 64bit
Intel i5 540m 2.55 GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730
I am not sure what caused the drop, but i have noticed that for the first 3-4 weeks with my laptop, i had a much higher FPS on higher setting, than the past 3-4 weeks.

WoW- Dropped from 60-70fps on high settings to 20-30 on medium
Starcraft 2- Dropped from 60fps on high to 20-25 on low and medium settings
Modern Warfare 2- Dropped from 65-70fps on high to 30fps on high

Systemrequirements lab shows max results under the recommended tab for all games still, but i'm not sure whats causing the recent drop. The only significant change that happened since i got my computer is i think a Windows update. Anyone have any idea on what to do?

Hi, I have a very frustrating issue on my PC. Games performance drops whenever I play it for 10-20 minutes. It varies, e.g. when I play watch dogs, it stutters after playing for 15 minutes. GTA IV lags and stutters after playing for 10 minutes. However there are also games that do not experience lag, or the performance drops very little. For example: Battlefield 4 (ultra settings), ARMA III (when i adjust the view distance slider all the way max, it lags after playing 10 minutes). During the lag moment, for games that lag, when i set the resolution from 1080p to 720p, they don't lag before 5 minutes. After that, they lag. So please any help would be appreciated, and thanks

Please could you give some advice on the following problem as I don't know what else to try!

I bought a laptop a number of months ago (Feb 2005) and since delivery have not been happy with its performance with games.

The basic specification is :-
Celeron M 340 (1.5GHz)
ATI 9700 128MB
40GB 5400rpm
XP Home

The basic problem is that when the hard drive is accessed during games the screen momentarily freezes - which if it occurs every few seconds makes the game almost unplayable.

The machine flies through 3DMark03 (The disk isn't accessed!).

Reducing graphic settings etc on some games improves the situation but I am still not impressed. Total War is a bit of a disaster even at the lowest settings. Delta Force(Land Warrior) was ok on my old P3 500 / VooDoo3 16MB desktop machine but this problem makes it not very playable on this newer and higher specification laptop - DF is a 4 or 5 year old game!

When I requested on site support (on two occasions), both engineers agreed that the problem was not acceptable and thus instigated the replacement of just about every component. No improvement. The machine was returned to base and fully tested ...... no hardware fault found. The supplier has indicated that the issue is related to having a 5400rpm hard drive and poorly programmed games. I am not completely happy with these arguments.

I seem to have tried everything with regards to optimising the machines performance but with only limited success. All d... Read more

As the title, my laptop has a huge gaming performance problem
My laptop is an ASUS ROG G551JM.
I got this problem for such a long time and i can't remember and understand how it's happening
For example:
The Crew: with a laptop that has the same specs with mine. It should run the game at high-ultra on 1980x1080 resolution with 45-60fps
But mine ran the game on the lowest setting 1366x768 resolution just to get 24-35fps
Insurgency: It should run at highest setting with 60-80fps
mine ran at ~30fps with low-med and 1600x900 resolution.
Battlefield 4: Mine ran at ~40fps on 1366x768 90% textures scale and lowest setting

My specs are:
8GB of RAM
I'm using Windows 10 64-bit

Extra: i have way better performance back when i'm using Windows 7

A:Improve gaming performance for $100 or less

First off I am not sure what your question is. Perhaps you accidentally left it out. If you are looking to upgrade your computer to play games at a higher resolution or higher frame rate then I see a problem. I believe the Touchpad is built pretty muck like a laptop, meaning most parts are *not* swappable and if they are the cost and trouble would be more than what it would be worth. Generally the two most easily replaceable parts on a laptop would be the RAM or harddrive and neither one of those is really going to give any performance gain.

I was wondering if someone could help me with updating the drivers for my graphics card and possibly other systems on my laptop. I currently don't trust myself with updating myself due to the many different versions and so I don't won't to cause irreparable damage. Also, would it be possible to point me in the right direction to get the most out of my system gaming wise.

Windows 8 64bit OS

Graphics - Crossfire Radeon 7660G + 7670M - Currently using the 13.6 Beta 2 Catalyst.

(I have Razer game boost installed but not sure if im using it right as i see no difference with it on or off).

A:Drivers and Gaming Performance

Hello again Professor,

Just wanted to thank you again and I have a few suggestions to get you started:

1- Check for updated drivers here: Drivers and software - IdeaPad Z585 Notebook
Note: I wouldn't go searching anywhere else for drivers until step 2 and (maybe step 3) are completed.

2- Run a WEI test so our gamers can look at your scores:

3- Consider downloading the Passmark Benchmark Testing Software and running the complete test suite. It comes with a full 30 day free trial. Once run, you can search for others that have your same configuration and you can even drill down the search to your specific graphics configuration so you can compare the results yourself (or post them for comment):

PassMark product listing - Diagnostic and test software for computers

This will provide some additonal information that I'm sure will be quite useful in evaluating you current performance.

Good luck.

Hello all. I'm looking to boost my performance with my machine and was wondering if it would be possible to get some recommendations on what I can adjust to get better performance. I'm not quite sure all the info you will need but I'm going to start by posting a few things and if someone would like to offer up some suggestions I can try I would be grateful. I'm using nTune for my current settings and adjustments.

Hopefully I can get one of you pros to have a look at the numbers and point me in the right direction. I might have things set good right now and not know it. i currently bought a NVIDIA GeForce 6200 512mb graphics card.
when i first installed the drivers etc games such as counter strike source and warcraft 3 ran perfectly with excellent fps. but only 2 days later these games are running terribly. bad lag in combat despite a very high internet speed, even in offline modes they are still incredibly patchy
i re-installed my drivers for my graphics card and ended all programs with high cpu usage
and the problem still remains. any ideas on how to fix or what the problem could be?
im running a 2.8 ghz pentium 4 processor with 1.5gb of ram.

A:very slow gaming performance?

What have you downloaded (where have you surfed) around the past two days? You might have picked up some malware if your games are also lagging offline and you already re-installed the drivers.

Have you tried reinstalling the games themselves?

I had upgraded my computer back in may of 2007, anyways when i upgraded i upgraded for gaming performance. the games i play are pretty much the battlefield series and need for speed undercover, newer stuff i guess. I recently bought Rainbow 6 vegas 2 and i had to turn down alot to make it playable.. also i downloaded the ArmA 2 demo and i laughed when i started it up to play cause i pretty much had everthing on low as put the resolution on 800x600 for it to move like if i were getting 50 FPS.. sucks, and not playable.. so with that game it lookes like a blurry mess . My problem im not exactly sure of , im more leaning to a not so good video card but i could be totally wrong, since i haven't been able to keep up to date on the new technology. If i need to upgrade video card i am looking into one of the 4800 ATI cards but affordable cause i am on a budget. I dont think it could but maybe possible.. i have 2 out take that are 80mm and on intake that is also 80mm. I am just lost on what to try anymore so i thought i would ask for some help..

My system consists of ( i didnt have to build from ground up)

That's your problem, your powersupply. 100% sure . . .

It's too low! You need at least a 350 watt, I'd get a 400 to be safe.

I have a Dell M6400 Laptop. The spec is quite hefty at Q9300 Quad Code 2.53 Ghz, 8GB Ram, 1GB Nvidia FX 3700M Video.

I am running Windows 7, and have recently bought 2 new games, DragonAge, and Modern Warfare 2.

When on Battery Power I can run both games in full 1920x1200. The run flawlessly with full detail enabled.

However, strangely when on Main Power, both games stutter, with the CPU at 100% usages on all 4 cores.

At first I suspected a Driver fault so I updated all drivers; particularly Video and Sound Drivers. Someone has suggested the Video card, and that Windows automatically puts it in a low power mode when on battery. This would make sense except that when on battery, 1920x1200 runs perfectly. When on Mains even 800x600 stutters.

Does anyone have any idea how I can monitor exactly what changes windows is making when I switch between mains and battery power?

Hi all,
My computer has lost gaming performance lately and i don't have any clue where to start checking for problems
Amd fx-4350 4.2ghz
Gigabyte 760gtx 4gb oc
8gb kingston hyperx
asus m5a97

In cs:go i now have inconsistent 120fps dropping to 70 time to time.
Cpu and gpu temp are fine and i am running month old version of win 8.1.
Also my friend has exactly same computer specs and he is having consistent 220fps.
So any tips where i could start looking for problems i would be happy

A:Computer lost gaming performance.

I would start with the graphics drivers. Did Windows automatically install a driver update recently? Try reverting to an older driver and see if it helps.

Hi guys

I have an aging PC and have been playing console games for the past few years, with the exception of WoW (which runs fine on low-medium settings on xp) I've now decided to play SW - The Old Republic and have recently upgraded to windows 7, which OS would be better for my PC?

Intel Pentium 4 Processor 3.0 GHz

and no I can't buy a new PC :(

on a sidenote a friend suggested regardless of which OS i choose, i should get a decent/custom extra cooling system for the graphics card/processor when its running games, would that make a difference.

A:Windows XP or 7 for gaming and general performance?

While keeping the components cool is important the age of the components is really the limiting factor. If the games you play run on XP, the system would perform better using a light weight OS. Some games require Windows 7 but most run on XP. XP is less secure than Windows 7 so that may be a factor.

what are the most effective tweaks in windows 7 to enhance gaming performance?

A:most effective gaming and performance tweaks

That would depend on the game, more then Windows. Your best bet is to look on the web and see what game tweaks are out there for games.

Here's a good site for some gaming tweak guides - TweakGuides.com

Also, have a look at my guide - Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues

I personally don't do any "Windows" tweaks so I have no advice there.

Good luck.

Hello HP Community, So I am currently in posession of a HP Envy product number M1W01UA#ABL; it has Intel-core i7-5500 CPU at 2.4GHz, 16 GB of RAM, Intel HD Graphics 5500 (integrated), and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M graphics card. I'm here because when I'm playing a certain game, I seem to be having performance issues even on the lowest setings well below the optimal graphics settings; stuttering, FPS loss, freezing occassionally, and I don't understand why. Now I know immediately the issue of overheating will come up, but I have a cooling pad that I use and my CPU averages the temperature at about 57C, it never really goes higher then 60C. What I assume is happening is that either the processor can't handle all that is going on within the game (though I would be very surprised if that is the case, and frankly a little dissapointed, given I have a friend with a less powerful HP Envy who doesn't seem to have any issues), that the CPU is limiting it's performance due to heat, or that there are background OS processes being a bother and sucking up my resources (not entirely evident in the Task Manager). I would appreciate any help and advice you could offer.  Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, I will relocate it if that is the case.

Hi there,

I have a Gigabyte p2542g gaming laptop (used for those purposes) that I've had for just over a year now. On purchasing the performance was as expected for a laptop of its specs, however, now, with games that I could run fine on high settings at a high resolution can now only run smoothly on much lower settings at half the resolution I used to be able to play at. I'd say performance is at 1/4 of what it used to be. It doesn't seem to be a software issue as I've just formatted and the same issues remained.

The primary symptom of the performance issues is overheating. I can literally burn my hand on the underside of the laptop when I run a game. I also get blue screens/straight crashes between 1-3 times a day.

My speculation is that I've knocked or bumped it whilst travelling with it and hardware has been affected, though I can't be certain.

I'd really appreciate any advice on understanding/finding a solution to this, as I'm fairly lost. I've considered warranty but this is my only computer and I doubt it's within its warranty...

Many thanks.

I am reasonably computer-literate, at least to the point of maintaining an efficient and virus free computer to operate at top performance. Inexplicably, my gaming performance on applications which normally achieve steady frames in the 40's and 50's range are completely stuttering around 2-3. My computer is very well maintained, with a commit charge of 123, regularly defragged, registry cleaned, scanned for viruses, etc. I thought that it might be a case of conflicting drivers, and as such updated all of them, with the exception of my BIOS (was going to try but am out of floppy disks). The only other thing that I can think of besides a BIOS conflict is that in the add/remove programs list is a Client Hack 1.9.2d that cannot be removed, nor is it recognized when I do deep scans with kaspersky or bitdefender. it seems unlikely to me that one virus is drastically reducing my gaming performance, its possible that a particular setting on my computer is wrong, but I checked everything I know (including BIOS AGP aperture settings, etc). Please, any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated, as this has been driving me mad as I've been trying to remedy this on my own for the past few days.
