Acer Aspire laptop stuttering video/audio - lags entire system and programs.

Q: Acer Aspire laptop stuttering video/audio - lags entire system and programs.

This Acer Aspire 7250 laptop with Windows 7 64bit system has been causing trouble ever since I ran Tron script. I have ran the DDS on this machine if needed I will post as directed. As the title says the stuttering and delays are system wide. In event viewer the Error 11, the driver detected a controller error on \ Device\Harddisk\DRI. , which concerns me. I was seeking help on this if anyone has an idea. There are about 7 other error/warnings in the event viewer 3 of which I know to be irrelevant. As of now I only have Windows Firewall and AntiMalware malware on this system, formerly Avast Premier was on the machine. If more information is needed please inquire, I appreciate all assistance.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a HP-dv6 -6050 laptop, bought it last august. It was running fine up until a month or two ago. I don't recall what I did but I think it was the time I installed Dragon Age: Origins. Either way, I noticed some problems since then.
Firstly it became very slow...even deleting files took longer than usual even of size 18 bytes.Programs and folder would take time to launch.
Secondly, which is a big headache, audio and video files now get stuck every 3-5 seconds while playing them. It is there evn in VLC player.
I tried defragging, some kind of a memory test through diagnostic startup, and even returned the system to factory settings. Sometimes it seems to get better.. but only for a while.
Also, the graphic card switching mechanism seems to be a bit buggy. When I plug in the power source, the dialog box to switch the graphic card doesn't appear.
I would be very grateful to anyone who can help sort this out.

Issue: Starting only a few days ago, my computer has been suffering from severe technical difficulties. After running a game (Sims 3 Generations which was released in stores recently), the computer froze up to the point of requiring a manual reset.
The issue now is that all audio and video files on my hard drive stutter when played, and the mouse stutters at times as well. I have checked the Task Manager but have not found any unusual processes loading the CPU. To restate, this applies to video and audio files on the hard drive--strangely, internet media such as YouTube has no issue. I am also sure that my speakers are not the issue because using Line-In audio (that is, using a cable to have an external device use my computer's speakers) has no problem. My computer also seems to have lessened its capability for multitasking, and less programs need to be opened at once now for performance issues to arise. Downloads are also incredibly slow now. I have checked the BIOS, but unfortunately am not sure if anything appears out of the ordinary, or even what details to look out for if this is the case. I have tried other media players apart from Media Player Classic HC, but experience the same stuttering (and as I have reinstalled my current medi... Read more

Originally, my desktop computer had 2GB PC2-4200 DDR2 RAM. I attempted to add an extra pair of 1GB RAM sticks. Although 4GB of RAM would show up in my system properties, it was unsuccessful because the audio would come out as loud blips of static. Also, my resolution would change and my computer seemed to not recognized my video card. I couldn't even start games. So I figured the RAM was faulty and i purchased another pair of 1GB RAM sticks. Same problem. However, no matter what pair of sticks were in the computer, it would always work with just ONE pair of sticks. So I figured that my computer was only acting up if there were four sticks of RAM in it. This led me to buy a pair of 2GB sticks. Still the same problem with only two 2GB sticks. I am now stuck with these extra RAM sticks and only 2GB will work in my computer. I have attempted to update my audio and video drivers, as well as retry the sticks in all possible positions and combinations. Here is my audio and video info:

Acer aspire 9410 2gb ram duo core 1.66. I have had a recurring problem with this laptop since october of 2008. At first it ran great now it starts stuttering on video and audio (even the xp sign in tone) and blocks continuously for 30 secs. The reponse time gets slower and slower as the problem goes ahead making net time a nightmare. I have done ccleaner, anti-virus checks, checked registry. nothing changes. the only thing that works is a restore. this buys me 1 to 2 weeks usage but then the problem returns. There are cpu usage spikes in that moment but not arriving to 100%. I understand that this is a common problem with acer (possibly related to the e power management software or to OneCare) but has any solution come forth? What can be done to get this machine working or do I just have to burn it?

I know it's possible that the speaker itself is just blown, but is there any way that it could be a software/driver issue? Supposedly this laptop uses AC97 drivers from Realtek. I have attempted to install Acer's audio drivers from their website for the 5000 series (they didn't have one specifically for the 5003wlmi) and I've also downloaded generic drivers directly from Realktek. No luck.

Any ideas?

Hi guys,

I hope this is in the right forum. I have been suffering from stuttering audio, from both audio on my pc and streaming from the net. I did all the usual tricks, checked for viruses/spyware, reinstalled drivers etc and I've (unintentionally) narrowed it down to hardware. I've done this by accidentally leaning on the casing, to the right hand side of the mouse pad. This actually allows the audio to continue playing without stutter and if the pressure is lifted the stutter returns immediately.

What I want to ask is whether it is easy enough to get into the machine itself, having looked around someone had done it previously. Secondly, what am I likely to find that is causing this problem?

Many thanks in advance.

For a little while longer I'm stuck with an older pc, which plays about half my videos ok, but some, (for example DVD rips encoded w/Xvid) the vid lags while the audio gets further and further ahead. I have many viewers, Xvid viewer, crystalplayer, ace divx player, the divx player, zoom player, bs player, the playa, Windows media player, etc, and one usually works on most vids. I have most codecs installed, i think, divx, Xvid, ffdshow, directX 9.0, etc.. I know I have a kind of slow processor and video card and may have to get a new video card, but short of that, is there any kind of tool or codec pack or player that anyone can suggest? Can I convert and decompress to another format that may work? Also, can someone remind me of the name of that one video utility that identifies properties and codecs required for a given video? hey! first post.

i just bought a new PC

AMD 3500+ 939
6600GT pci-e
200 gig SATA drive <----DMA is enabled in bios
1 gig ram
Nforce4 MSI K8N SLI mobo

the problem i am having is this, any AVI (Weather it be divx or whatever), and mp3 i play on my computer has weird split second pauses or stuters through it. It doesn't do it 100% of the time. About once or twice every 5 minutes.

I am running Win Pro x64, but i have the latest x64 nforce drivers for all hardware. When i upgraded, i originally bought a Gigabyte nforce4 board (basically the equivalent of what i have now) and it was doing the exact same thing, thats why i swapped it for the MSI!

So i'm leaning toward it being a software issue. I've tried different codec packs (not that they should effect mp3 playback)

I've tried different ram.

I've scoured the net for ppl having the same problem, there is ppl having similar problems but no one having an identical problem.

I'm pretty sure the same prob was happening in windows 32 bit when i had it on aswell but i'm not 100% on that.

any help would be GREATLY appreciated. really want to get this thing figured out as i'm really keen on music, and there's nothing worse than having a favourite song stutter on you!

if theres any more info you may need from me, plz ask.

Stuttering of audio/video...is probably not indicative of a malware problem. I will restore your log, if there is any indcation in your responses that your situation should be treated as a malware case. HJT logs are not permitted in the XP forum, such logs are malware tools and are handled in one of our malware forums.

Start/Run...type chkdks /r and hit Enter. Type Y in response to onscreen query and hit Enter. Reboot the system...the command will execute and the system will boot into XP when command has finished running.

Upon reboot of the system...defrag the system partition.

I have a real problem with audio and video stuttering badly on my computer. I am running Windows 7 and have run malware and virus scans on it, but they don't seem to help. The problem started shortly after I moved my computer from the basement because of some flooding. I don't have direct access to a hard wired internet hook up so I am using a Trendnet 54 Mbps wireless G USB adapter as my internet connection. The stuttering with all music players and when I am streaming from the internet. My mouse is also very jerky on the screen at times. Could the way I'm accessing the internet be causing the problems, or is it just a coincidence that the problems started when I moved my computer? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

CAUTION: I offer advanced settings!
It sounds like an IRQ conflict.

When hardware blocks shared IRQ resources,
bus mastering is supposed to take care of that.

On a desktop station, the answer is easy... assign
a different address or use another PCI slot.

With a laptop, that's another story.

You can still force IRQ per device, though,
if you install the STANDARD HAL.

When doing a "repair install", hit F5.
Then, select "Standard 486", rather than ASPI,
or whatever the default.

You WILL lose APM, so you'll have to manually
turn off your machine after logging off or "shutting down".

But it allows you to force devices to use IRQ's you want to.
Otherwise, Windows overrides the CMOS settings.

Now let me start from the beginning. For the past 5 years I have been using the same 80G HD without problems, but lately it has just been getting full and staying full so i purchased a new Samsung 320G drive. Since i only have 1 sata cable i took my old drive out (didnt format it) then put the new one in and installed windows vista 32 bit. (same as old drive) Got it running and started installing drivers including sound card and video card. After finishing this I transferred files off my my external drive over to this new drive then once finished started playing a video game (world of warcraft) and noticed stuttering in audio and visual. I spent several hours trying to fix this and came to the conclusion it had to be the HDD since my old one this problem wasnt accuring.

So I took this drive out, put my old one back in and of course no problems. No audio or video issues so i figured id just reformat and just start from scatch with the old drive. So once finished i went through my norm and started installing drivers... then boom its doing it again. so now its not a HDD issue and I once again have the new Samsung drive in.

Through trial and error I have come to the conclusion that the issue does not begin until I install my graphics drivers. Geforce 9800 GT. I have tried the newest and oldest drivers to no prevail, but again I had these drivers working on the old HDD before reformatting that drive. Hi all,
I use a laptop to watch tv-show videos online at a particular website for some time and recently have begun to have the problem of the video lagging behind the audio. It seems to stay consistently behind the audio for the full program. The audio works perfectly but the video skips and characters appear to move slightly slow.

I found another post with a similar problem and followed as much as I could but there was a question concerning start up items that was particular to that user. I do have many start up items and wonder if they are all needed and could be hampering my laptop's performance.

My config is: OS XP Home SP3, Ram 1G, HD 34G Free space 8.16G

Since this morning when I turned on my pc I have been experiencing some strange issues and wondered if anyone had any advice or suggestions.

When moving the mouse around in a figure of eight with nothing open, every few seconds it skips for about 1/10th second. This is a brand new issue, but I was also having trouble with my wireless internet speed last night, for which I use a usb netgear wna1100 stick.

It seems my pc is dieing in some way but I'm unsure how to identify whats causing the problem as I don't have lots of spare bits to put in.

Things I've tried so far:
Checked mobo + graphics card temps, both ~40-50C idle.
Malware Bytes found nothing
Full AVG scan found nothing
SeaTools hard drive scan found nothing

This leaves me to suspect a hardware fault somewhere else.

My system specs:
Windows 7 64-Bit Home Edition
Sapphire Radeon 4870 2GB
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+
Gigabyte M57SLI-S4
Microsoft Sidewinder Mouse

The stuttering is fairly random, but always present and it never goes for longer than about 10 seconds without doing it.

Any ideas? Dieing motherboard or HD? How can i tell without replacing them?

Hello, About a week ago, I began having problems with my audio and video. When I would watch a video on youtube or play a song from Media Player or iTunes, it would momentarily pause every second. Obviously this is a frustrating problem. Also, my mouse and keyboard stutter at this same interval. The letters I type do get typed out but they have to catch up so to speak where they don't get typed out as soon as I press them. This all happens as soon as I start my system and the timing never changes; the stutter occurs every second- I've even timed it out to be one stutter per second. I did a system restore to an earlier time and nothing improved- I checked for updates, and checked to make sure that my ATA/ATAPI Devices were in DMA Mode at the suggestion of another forum where a person with similar problems solved theirs. Here is the procedure: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/IDE-DMA.mspxBut this didn't do anything for me either. I've run multiple MBAM scans, my other virus program (NOD 32) and Spybot, but nothing came up. The only other thing I can think of is that whenever I start up my computer, the black screen at the beginning says that it can't detect an AC power source. I'm assuming that this means that my battery is dead (I have a laptop). If the power cord gets unplugged, even if for a second, the entire computer just dies. The computer worked fine even with this power error message, so that's why I think that I just need a new b... Read more

Hi there,

I'm experiencing a stuttering issue anytime I stream video or audio, or playback local music/video files. The stuttering happens every few minutes, and when it happens even the mouse pointer stutters.

I'm on a Dell Studio 540 desktop with:

~Vista 64-bit
~Core 2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz
~6 Gb RAM
~ATI Radeon HD 3450 (256mb)
~Onboard audio

anything else needed? I updated the audio driver and nothing changed. This is highly annoying -any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

A:Video/Audio Stuttering issue

What program are you using for video? How many other processes are running? Have you tried other media players? Is the stuttering happening when you're viewing or listening on the Internet or when you listen/view files on your hard drive? If you're streaming stuff from online, your Internet connection could be the issue. A lot of network traffic will cause a lot of buffering and stuttering like that.

Hello everyone,a year ago i bought and assembled PC components by myself and i was glad that everything worked well, smooth, audio&video in PC games and Movies were flawless, up untill recently when the audio and video start to stutter really bad, especially when Starting the PC,connecting or disconnecting from internet; thats when it spikes really bad something video and sound stuttering and freezing for seconds.
Here is a picture taken with the latency tester after i disconnected the internet. In normal use the stutter appears once at 10-20 minutes, sometimes more sometime less.
The PC components are:
Athlon II 620 2.6GHZ
2GB DDR3 TEAMGROUP RAM
HIS ATI 4770
Corsair 400W
Gigabyte MA785GT-UD3H

I cant recall the moment when the stutter happened the first time and why, but its happened after my PSU started to behave in a weird manner, its vent making an upsetting noise. It somehow stops when the PC is under heavy load, in a movie or a game, and it starts again when its idling. Its not a squal or whine, but more of a buzzing noise ,something like this .This started when i moved the pc and the desk in another place in the room.

So please do help me, I can provide more information, just ask; i'm doing fine with computers but those 2 problems didnt happen to me before so i don't know how to fix them.

A:Audio&Video Stuttering on my homemade PC

Your PSU is failing, this can be caused by various things, such as a failing fan, or being choked with dust and fluff. This causes erratic behaviour, because the power to the video card fluctuates. You will need to replace the Power Supply Unit, and preferably with one that can supply a bit more power. The card you are using uses roughly 200 Watts under load. Any other equipment you are using also draws power, so you may be on or above the limit for that power supply.

Hi,
I am using DivX Plus Player version 8.1.2 to play some mkv files. The audio wasn't playing and I found from the error message that I needed a codec (AC3 and 8192 came up - I'm not technical enough to know what that means).

I found a codec, and now the audio plays but stutters to the point where I can't watch the video.

Please help a numpty in distress!

Thanks,

A:Audio stuttering on playing Divx video

Well, I'll tell you what I do with the DivxHD MKV files...I convert them to Xvid MP4 with Format Factory.
Why? Because I have nothing but trouble playing back MKV files...the audio is out of sync, the audio stops, the audio this the audio that (can't remember stuttering).
I convert to Xvid MP4 and the picture is still great, it plays in anything and the audio is rock solid.

Other than that I think MKV is great!

Hey everyone,

My wife's computer has had a "skipping" problem for quite some time. I have been to the Malware forum and determined that the computer is cleaned - and they had me update windows and Java. I have run multiple virus scanners, spybot, adaware, have tried disconnecting wireless (i read somwhere that that could be it), checked memory, defragged, etc... basically everything i know how to do and i have not been able to remedy the situation. Basically whenever you run and audio or video file in any application (WMPlayer, Itunes, youtube, anything) it skips and stutters terribly. I think it really does it alot of times, it is just more noticable when you are listening / watching something continuous. The computer has plenty of available memory, is not maxed out in CPU usage or anything. Other than this problem, the computer seems to run flawlessly... I cant figure it out - if someone has time to help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi

My laptop ASUS N55F stutters every once in a while while playing games or listening to music, or both.

Both video and audio stutter at the same time, the best way I can describe it, it sounds like the load for the laptop is too much and it can't try so hard.
However, the specs of the computer are enough to handle the load, since FPS in games doesn't drop. Everything is fine except this stutter. How do I go about solving this problem?

I just installed a new Sony DRU-810A DVD/CD drive/burner. I can't figure out why it's stuttering with both audio and video during playback.

It's the third drive installed in my PC. I've got the HD on one cable, and on the other cable, a Lite-On CD-ROM driver as master and this Sony drive as the slave. I've updated the firmware for the Sony drive and I'm still getting this problem.

I know it's not a problem with system resources or resolution. I've got a 3.0 Ghz HT CPU, 1 Gb of RAM, and a Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT OC. I don't have any open programs running while trying to watch DVD movies. When a DVD plays, both the audio and video stutter. I've even tried listening to regular CDs in the drive and it sounds like the audio is still stuttering.

Could it be the fact that the Sony drive is on slave? If I changed it to master, would this fix the problem? Thanks in advance!

A:Solved: DVD drive audio/video stuttering

First off, I'd make sure the cable the drive is on is a 80 wire cable and not a 40 pin cable. Next I'd try swapping it's location on the cables to see if it worked better. Some model drives don't like being on the same cable with some different model drives.

If that didn't help, I'd check in the device manager to make sure the drive is using DMA mode. You do this by opening the device manager, right click on the devices listed under IDE ATA/ATAPI and choose properties, then check the primary channel and secondary channel tabs.

If it's not using DMA, try reloading the motherboard drivers, restart and check again.

It could also be a bad 80 wire cable.

Yesterday afternoon, I was playing Grand Theft Auto IV on my PC and while I was in-game, the sound started to crackle and slow down and then suddenly turned off (sound only). I was still able to play the game without any issues but there was no sound!

I exited to Desktop (Windows 7 SP1) and there was NO SOUND AT ALL! Nothing made the sound work. I had to reboot the computer and then the sound came back but after a couple of minutes, again, the sound stopped working. This time, I was NOT playing any game, I was just surfing the web!

I rebooted again and then went to YouTube and tried playing a video; the video played like slow-motion (couple of FPS) and there was no sound again!

Hello, and thank you in advance for your help. A few months ago, my system became infected: namely, AntiMalware Doctor and the Google redirect virus. After getting some help from Microsoft Customer Support, I found your forums. Since then, I have received lots of help from Malware Response Team member Sempai. I'm happy to say the infections appear to be gone; however, some issues seem to persist. Audio & video is choppy and stuttered. This occurs with all audio and video, from my own music and videos on my HD to youtube and other streaming video to games run through flash, java, etc. The only site that doesn't seem to be choppy is Hulu. For some reason, their video comes through with no issue. My main issue is with SlingPlayer, an application that uses my SlingBox (a device hooked to my cable box that allows me to stream my television online) that worked with no problems before. Now, it is unwatchable, due to the extreme stuttering. I have tried letting it buffer, but no amount of storing up the video seems to matter. Also, youtube and other streaming videos tend to run a little better once I have let them completely load, but it doesn't always work and it isn't perfect. Whenever I Restart my computer, the audio controls on my machine stop working, and the Volume icon on my system tray disappears. I effectively have no volume control.
