Check Disk Error File Fat 32

Q: Check Disk Error File Fat 32

My systems continues to complete a "checking file system c: FAT 32 file" and does this continuously and will not take me to the desktop. What is happening and how can I fix this problem? Can anyone help?? Thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: Check Disk Error File Fat 32

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Check Disk Error File Fat 32

Try to boot into safe mode (press F8 a few times after the PCs first beep at bootup) and let chkdsk finish. Then click on Start/Run and type in MSCONFIG to see if it is entered there under one of the boot menus. Stop it if you can.

I've tried system restore and got this message:
Windows detected file system corruption on OS (C:). You must check disk for errors before it can be restored.). So down below of that message, there's a link which says ''Check the disk for errors''. So I clicked on it, and then it says ''Windows can't check disk while in use, do you want to check for hard disk errors the next time you start your computer?''. So I agree to it by clicking ''Schedule disk check''. So then I restart my computer & and it does nothing at all. I wanted to try system retore because theres this pop-up that keeps accuring on my Internet screen (Google Crome,Internet Explore) that says ''Please Install Flash Player Pro To Continue'', and saying that It's outdated. But when I did try to install it, It wouldn't let me. Comes to find out, I THINK (Idk) it's like some type of virus. But I was just wondering on why my computer wont allow me to restore now? What should I do??

Computer -> Right Click Hard Drive -> Click Properties -> Click Tools.

From there I get the Disk Check option. However After opening the file it does not run. No matter what is or is not checked the file will not run.

The program instantly closes out. Even when I try to set it so that it will run on the next start up. The file will close out without showing the confirmation box.

Now, when I do restart I go to my log in page, but not until after seeing a page for a brief moment, it looks like the page you see after completeing a disk check at start up.

Used the windows install DVD to check for errors in windows and to see if anything needed repairing, came back as everything was fine.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi everyone.

Going crazy with this. So about 2 weeks ago, my "intel rapid storage technology" software gave me an error. I opened it and saw that one of the disks (2 disk array) in my Raid 0 array, had an error. I reset it back to normal and left it. Then I started to get pop ups saying that files were corrupt over the course of the next few days. My OS still worked and everything worked as usual, except my sound card. I have no more sound from anything plugged into the jacks, only USB connected audio works.

So, I attempted to run a check disk to fix said errors, but I get a message that the drive is not accessible due to a recent software package install "error 766f6c756d652e63 3f1". I went into my system restore and all restore points are gone, except one. When I click on it, it says the drive is not accessible.

Today, I installed 2 new 1TB hybrid drives in another Raid 0 volume (yes I know...but that's what I am using for now). When I went to write the system image, it said the disk had errors and to run a check disk first......which I can not.. I clicked ignore and let it go and write the system image with the errors. When it is done, do you think that I will be able to run a check disk on the new drives (2nd array, since it will not be inaccessible) to repair the errors that it wrote from the bad disk?

I am not sure where to go from here. My PC is still up and running and almost finished copying the image to the two new drives. My hopes are th... Read more

Hello, I have a problem when I do disk checks on my Laptop, it gets to 59% complete but after that it freezes, I know it's frozen as I left it for 5 hours scanning the 1 file and it didn't move up. I have tried booting it with a Ubuntu 11.1 Disc, although it runs it, I can't seem to find an option to schedule a disk check in the home directory. I'm not really into computers, so if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. (I don't know if it's a file problem or a disk error)

Hi guys.

I have a weird one here. I downloaded few video files from a streaming website using Internet Download Manager and couple of such files do not playback properly. In Windows Explorer (detailed view and preview pane) it shows the file sizes as few hundred MB (which should be correct) but when I check the file properties (right click file -> properties), it says the file size as 0.

Now it doesn't let me delete the file, rename it or move it saying that Explorer cannot find such file. Tried unlocker. No good. Tried CCleaner. No good. I even ran CCleaner's wipe free space thing. No good.

I thought it was some missing index messing with everything. So I did a regular check disk from Computer but it didn't fix anything. Then I did a full check disk from cmd prompt which ran in the next boot up and didn't fix the problem either.

Now, instead of fixing this issue, the Action Center says that it found a problem with the drive and wants to run check disk every time I boot to Windows. It reboots, runs check disk, doesn't fix anything and gives the same error once again upon reboot.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

I can fix it the hard way; that is, move everything from the D:\ to backup drive, format D:\ the restore. That's more than 2TB data! Backing up is not a problem because I already have backed up everything I need. Restore is the hard part. Will have to do it overnight anyways.

I have vista on an acer aspire laptop and recently had to reinstall from the back up disks which I have done before with no problems. This time the machine will not boot up and gives a message about a check disk file missing. It then goes onto start up options page, safe mode etc, but selecting any option goes round in a loop to the check disk missing message. I have looked it up but the only solutions seem to involve making a floppy start up disk, there is no floppy drive these days so I am stuck.
I am using the machine from a linux CD so it must be the windows software that is at fault.

A:check disk file missing no start up

You are missing some files from your Backup Disk. If you have a Vista DVD you can go boot off of the disc and choose Repair Your Computer. Get to the RE (Recovery Environment) and choose Command Prompt and type SFC /scannow.

I periodically get notices from Win7 that I need to run the disk check utility. This is usually after a BSOD. These events have been occurring from the day I bought this laptop and I have posted them here in the past.

This time, the disk check utility changed names on at least 12 files. I don't know WHAT files, because the utility said the file names were corrupted.

After the reboot, I found that my Libraries were missing from the file manager. My Documents, Pictures, Videos and Music were gone. If I looked by clicking on C: and then navigating to them, I could find them, but the file manager could not.

Also, clicking on the Start button, then All Programs, gave me an empty screen. All the shortcuts were gone. Many of the shortcuts on my Task Bar are missing their Icons, but they work.

Many of my music files will not play because the file extension is now m4p. Changing the file extension to mp3 or mp4 does not work, the system sees them as an unknown file type.

I ran Microsoft Security Essentials, a FULL SCAN, and it scanned about 86,000 files. That was all it could find.

I have attached images that show the start menu and virus scan results as well as the usual dump files. The images show a black desktop, but I corrected that by re-choosing the custom theme I had made.

I tried to use Restore, but the restore points have dissapeared, and I cannot restore to before this event.

Obviously the user can check the consistency of a FULL, whole NTFS hard disk by performing a "chkdsk" command and run in addition one of the well known tools (like MiniTool Partition Wizard) a surface test to check whether all sectors of a hard disk are ok.

But what if I don't want to check the full, whole hard disk but only one (big) file?
I suspect only one file of being defect and want to avoid a long-lasting chkdsk and surface test.

Are there tools which narrow the ntfs and surface check to one file?

A:Check for ONE File (!) if NTFS structure + hard disk sectors ok?

Don't know if Chkdsk can be done on a single file but I'd first Copy it to another drive, USB Thumb drive or USB HDD, delete it, run Chkdsk again to assure that was the only file involved then run Chkdsk on the drive it was copied to. If it comes up good, put the file back where it was. Or if less than about 4.2GB put it on a DVD-/+R disc.

When I try to use Check disk on drive C: with the 'Automatically fix file system errors' box ticked and then press 'Start' I get the usual message that the disk check cannot be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files and asks 'Do you want to schedule this disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?'

However, if I click on 'Yes' and then restart the computer, it boots straight into Windows without doing a disk check.

It used to work but for some reason does not work any more.

Any help would be appreciated.

I used the Disk Error Checking fucntion under the Tools tab in Disk Properties. And noticed that whilt my both 2TB drives are of the same make and model, one checking is much faster than the other by a mile.

Could this because the checking does not include area which files are already written on?

Can anyone throw any light on this.

I did this, because, when I used Sea Tools from Seagate to check one of the drive, it failed, because the number errors exceeded the limit of the checking software. But running the check using the above fucntionality in Win 7, it passed. So may be the Disk Error Checking of Win 7 does not cover the used areas of the disk!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Disk error check

Could this because the checking does not include area which files are already written on?

I would think it is rather the other way around. It does not check unused space. But I am not 100% certain. Does the timing somehow relate to the amount of data that is on the disks.

I have recently been given a Compaq computer that had some windows problems. I reinstalled Windows XP with the restore disks earlier this morning. Well the installation was successful it said, but I still haven't even seen the desktop yet. As soon as installation was finished it ran a disk error check (it is still running now). I am watching it slowly complete. I see a bunch of "Windows replaced bad clusters in file blah blah blah". There are about 10 in the first 60% of the check. Is this normal since I just installed XP? Will all these "replacements" impair windows? If it helps I have been working on the machine installing different OS such as Ubuntu Linux and dual booting and was having problems so I just went back to plain old XP, but thats another story. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Whilst on the Net a few days ago the computer froze,
then said IE (or MS) had experienced an error, then the computer shut down & restarted & asked if I wanted to send an error report & I closed the box.
Next time I started the computer it wanted to do a 'checkdisk' so I let it, but it only did the first scan of 3 & froze, so I had to reboot, ..... it does this each time I start now unless I cancel checkdisk.

The message that now pops up is:
"The file or dir. 'C:\4Mft is corrupt & unreadable' - run Chkdsk"
I wonder if someone could advise me on what to do find & fix the problem with the disk (or chkdsk),
Thanks, Yvonne

I have Win7 home premium 32 bit. I have 3 sata disks in my pc & 2 disks in an external USB Sans Digital cabinet. I haven't looked at the external drives for several months because they have mostly backups so I turned them on today & the system was not able to recognize 1 of them, a 2TB WD disk. I moved the 2 TB disk into the pc & connected the SATA cables. When I turned on the pc it found the disk & displayed the data perfectly. I'm even able to copy to it, so it seemed that it was working fine. However, I decided to check for errors under tools selecting both scan & recovery. The check runs for about 5 sec & suddenly freezes & I have to cancel it. After this the disk becomes totally unavailable, data & all. I get the message: "Disk is not accessible." I have to reboot the pc to use the disk again. This is not a boot disk. I would like to save the data & recover the disk if I can.

Hi all,
I ran into a program that crashed my win2000 system so bad I got the blue screen of death (first time ever with this system). When I rebooted I got the usual check disk startup however it gave me this error:

Now the system appears to be running fine. But I thought I would ask around and see if anyone else had ran into this before, and if i might need to do anything more at this point (I doubt it but better to ask now and fix a small crack rather than later when the dam is about to burst heh). The closest reference I could find was when someone installing service pack 3 (which I wasn't).This is the article I was refering to:

HDDStatus - Tool to check hard disk status, health and reliability

I've been using GoodSync for the past couple of months to chain synchronize 3 hard disk drives and ran into my first issue today. GoodSync stopped responding whilst synchronizing changes to files so I used task manager to manually end the process.

I'm not entirely sure how much damage has been caused but when I re-analyzed the file changes a lot of the changes prior to the crash was no longer listed.. So I'm unsure of the file integrity but have so far noticed some music video files are corrupt with cyclic redundancy check errors but is not easily visible to check corrupt files because they still play but parts of data are missing.

I think I've experienced cyclic redundancy check errors before when my external hard drive fell flat on it's side whilst it was playing music (3 years ago). It took me a long time to filter out the bad files because all the mp3 files worked but some songs would randomly play in others etc.. is their some type of automated CRC scanner or method to check all my files ?

I copied some files from my old HP laptop with xp, burnt them with burnaware onto a dvd. Now on my new laptop (lenovo g580 W7 64bit) I tried to take them off the DVD and move to my local drive, when I was moving them from disc to drive explorer gave me a message saying 'Invalid MS-dos function' and the usual try again or cancel option.
Thinking some of the files on disc might be corrupt I ran
xcopy F:\*.*/s > C:\test1
And got the message in my topic title File creation error - Data error (cyclic redundancy check).
Now I don't have clue what this means and I can only tell you I have an output file in C, as per the command instructions, with almost all the files listed, some are missing but some of the ones there are the corrupt ones and some of the ones missing I think are fine.
Doesn't really lead me to the issue unless someone can decipher the error message I got?

Hi guys,
Sorry if I'm posting in a wrong section, and I've done a search on my problem already. I've looked everywhere for a problem like this, that I'm experiencing at the moment, but had no luck.

So here is the problem: One fine day after connecting my laptop to a TV and optimized the monitor settings a bit. While I was gone for a sec, my roommate says "it just crashed", though I'm sure he touched something, which I'm not aware of. So I don't really know what he did, but after that; every reboot results in a system disk check for errors, and it gets stuck at 0 and then jumps to 4 and then ultimately, frozen. If theres any suggetions you can provide, it would be greatly appreciated.

You already have to specify the maximum size this vhdx is allowed to expand to, in my case 255 GiB (255 GiB × 1024 MiB/GiB = 261120 MiB). This can be placed in either your user profile or shared for all users:

Current User: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Templates\All Users: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Templates\
To create the template:
1. Start an elevated command prompt
2. Run diskpart.exe
3. Enter the following commands:
create vdisk file=C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Templates\Virtual-Hard-Disk.vhdx type=expandable maximum=261120
attach vdisk
create partition primary
format fs=ntfs label="Blank Virtual Disk" quick
assign letter=z
detach vdisk
4. Once the template is in place, just run this command:
reg.exe add HKCR\.vhdx\Windows.VhdFile\ShellNew /f /v FileName /t REG_SZ /d Virtual-Hard-Disk.vhdx
Now you just have to right-click in any file explorer window, also on remote network shares, select New > Hard Disk Image File and rename the file as you wish!

What a mess...

I came to my PC this morning only to find it restarting after the BIOS continuously. I peeked in the case and the DRAM LED was lit on my ASUS mb. I pulled one of the memory sticks out, restarted, and it booted right into windows (I'm running win 7 x64 ultimate). I wanted to run memtest86 to check the rest of my memory, so I booted that from a flash drive, test was OK. When I booted from the flash drive, it changed my boot order and disabled my RAID1 for some reason, so it booted to one of the RAID drives (except now it wasn't in raid, it was just an IDE drive). When it got into Windows it did all the 'installing new hardware' stuff on my hard drives. But it was running fine. I knew what happened, so I shut down, went into the BIOS and put the RAID back on, and booted back into Windows. It booted fine, except that there was a red X on my internet connection icon in the tray (even though I could get to web sites just fine). Network control center said the "dependency service or group failed to start". A few seconds later, a msg pops up saying the firewall is off and should be turned on. It ran stable at this point, had it on for about an hour.

Then to fix the red X thing, I read that maybe I should try a check disk. So i went to do it in windows on my C drive and it said I couldn't do it while the drive is active or whatever, so it would schedule it for the next startup. Sure enough it ran, found some problems, and finished. Now when it gets into wi... Read more

Hello all, I'm a rookie on this board and I'm desperately trying to fix my computer. HOpefully some experts can give me some hope.

My computer freezes quite often, it just happens to freeze randomly even when I was doing nothing on the computer. So I researched on the issue and happend to found a recommendation to run disk defrag and run Check Disk Utility.

Just an hour ago, I ran the "check disk utility" against my C: (where OS is installed). It said It can't be ran since C: is in use but I was able to schedule it to run before computer starts up the next time.

So I did and check disk operated on my next restart. It took quite a while and froze in the middle of the check disk. So I was forced to restart the computer and it re-check the disk again. THis time it deleted a lot of files/security objects? (like a 1000 of these things were deleted) and then re-written again and replaced with other objects. (I'm sorry I didn't take note what these objects are but theere were a lot)

Then it continued the check disk and finished. Now when VISTA started up, I logged in as usual but it turned into a black screen with only the cursor and a dialog box (Error Loading NVCPL.dll. Access Denied)

I can't log back in. But it seems like everything is still there since the HDD partition with VISTA in it still shows my previous size.

How can I repair this!? such that I don't have to reformat my OS...

I need help desperately...thanks in advance..... Read more

I am working on my girlfriends toshiba laptop. Her harddrive was competely full. I ended up deleting tons of junk pics and music files that she had duplicate folders of and now there is plenty of room. I also installed microsoft security essentials and ran a full scan - no viruses were found. here are the issues I am having

- when booting up, the screen goes competely black. In order to work around this you must hold ctl+alt+del and then press f12. This brings up a boot menu where I must select to boot the hard drive. After doing this the system boots like normal.

- When I try to degragment the defrag will eventually just stop at around 5%. I do not get an error message. I just end up having go restart the computer. The same happens when I try to scan the disk for errors.

- I also cannot install automatic updates. When I try to install them I just get an error saying they cannot be installed.

The computer is running XP Home Edition 2002 service pack 3

I have a two year old HP Pavillion (now a year out of waranty) that crashed and now returns "disk read error press ctl+alt+del to restart" when attempting to boot. Using the diagnostic tools avialable under F2, I get the following failure: Hard Drive Short DST Check: FailedFailure ID: GLL3S1-76684P-MFPV7G-60RA03Product ID: E9Z18AV Would anyone be so kind as to tell me what this particular failure ID code means?  Thank you.

A:Disk Read Error on boot, Hard Drive Short DST Check fails

The hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced.  A retail laptop SATA hard drive can be used-Western Digital, Seagate, Toshiba, etc. Just be sure to get one of at least equal capacity as the original in order to use Recovery Media to install Windows. It can be larger, but not smaller capacity. For instance if you have a 500GB hdd you could use a 750GB hdd but not a 320GB hdd. Your model is not one of the easiest to replace hdd on but the Maintenance & Service Guide will help you or your chosen repair shop.http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04438537

Bsod error occurs 2 3 times a day displaying netio.sys error.

please find dump file attached

dump file

A:BsoD error please check the dump file

You need to do two things.

First of all, you have to believe and understand that QuickHeal is crap. Its desi, its cheap, it shows performance visually, but it does not do what is supposed to. Plus it contributes to BSOD and causes other issues there.

Uninstall QuickHeal as it is contributing to your BSOD.

Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Next, go to Intel Customer Support ... search for any possible update to your WiFi driver. It is failing.

And it is old, too.

Let us know for any further BSOD after doing these two.

I have a asus a8n delexe sli which gaves the above error when I do alt f2 on post to enter the flash utility. I was driven to reinstall bios or upgrade it because I am getting freezing; reboot issues; missing drivers; unrecognised hardware issues etc. I have swapped out drives, video cards, reinstalled OS and even swapped PSU to no avail. So has my motherboard just had it?
I folllowed asus instructions and copied the bios to a floppy disk and tried to flash from that. Although I copied all three files in the downloaded zip so I presume it would select the exe file automatically. I will download again. Should it work if I copied to a blank CD? I presume the bios would automatically pull the exe from any device besides the hard drive? I get this error with or without the floppy inserted?

I doubt the bad sector on hard disk, so I made check disk through the Windows 7 (not in cmd mode). In processing check disk stops at stage "2154545 file record processed" (2154545 is random number), and I wait for 2 hours but without any results. Why check disk stopped at this point? What next to do? Thanks!

A:Windows check disk stopped at "xy file record processed"

Hello and welcome Shark Developer mate can you get into safe mode? If so try the chkdsk again.
Power up and tap F8 and when in safe mode try again using this
Disk Check if the first method doesn't work then try option 2.
Post back what happens.

Hi everybody,

The title says it all. My dad was using the computer to watch some videos online when Mozilla Firefox froze. Then I tried to get into the task manager using Ctrl+Alt+Del and that wouldn't work. Tried right clicking the taskbar and going into task manager and that didn't work either. So I just shoved the power button to turn off the computer, and turned it back on. It hung on the "Starting Windows" screen for a while, then it launched into check disk. It scanned for a bit, then said "File record segment 2xxx is unreadable" and it kept going until about 58%, then it just kept giving "File record segment 3xxxx is unreadable" and kept going up until "File record segment 44139 is unreadable". Then it said something about index errors and the computer reboot. Now it says "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". Does anyone have any insight?

A:check disk is giving me "File record segement xxxxx is unreadable"

So I threw in my windows 7 CD to try and repair the startup, but it didn't work. Now the computer rebooted and is going through check disk again. I already switched the SATA ports on the motherboard. Is there anything anyone can suggest?
