Hinges Thinkpad Edge E530c

Q: Hinges Thinkpad Edge E530c

The left hinge on my laptop is not closing properly. It has cracked the bottom casing. Is there a way without taking it all apart to determine if it is the bracket or the hinge. I would like to fix it but don't want to order both parts if it is not necessary. I am thinking it is the bracket because if I hold the bottom together I am able to close it. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a lenovo Thinkpad E530C laptop and sometimes the computer posts and sometimes not. I see others have this issue on the web but i tried all solutions and no luck. When the computer does post i tried to boot from a bios update cd and when the update is running i get this error. Memory cannot be allocated, and the process did not complete. I tried several versions of the bios and same issue. If i run the bios update from windows the lastest version the winphlash64.exe stops responding and the older versions of the bios error with can not read bios. I can enter the bios and default it. I reset the keys and same issue. I also tried different ram and same issue. Any one else have a solution.

I have been having an absolutely MISERABLE expereince dealing with Lenovo with this computer.  About 2 weeks ago, the left hinge on my pc notebook began sticking and with routine opening and closing, which has forced the separation of the casing from the screen.  It was under waranty until 12/28/2016.  I placed my first call on 12/27/2016 to get the process going and have gotten nothing but a runaround with each call to India I make.  Each time, I get a guarantee that I will get a call back within "3 business days" to no avail.  I am told that my case is escalated and I should expect an email from a "case manager" and should get an email within 24 hours, and NOTHING.  I have taken out an extended warratny with Lenovo based off the suggestion of my call on 12/27/16 in order to get in home assistance, and nobody want to aknowledge anything to help with this case.  Any help that anyone can provide to help expedite this process, whether it be a strategy to get someone in America to actually call me back, another number beyond the one on the website to spreak to someone "higher up," etc.  I am beyond frustrated with this case and am about done with Lenovo...

Seems there are some design issues and manufacturing defect with the way Lenovo Egde 2-in 1 touch screen works. The right hinge somehow has come loose and then it forces the screens to separate. When you close the laptop it seems to aggravate the situation.  I have certainly not dropped it and mishandled it. Searching on the internet it seems to a very common issue. Wondering how should I go about getting this fixed. Does anybody have some fix and something? is there a recall? Its a fairly new laptop with good specs. See attached pictures.everything still worksClosing it seems to split the screenskeep the laptop open at all time to prevent it from falling apart. The laptop screen is seperating due to hinge issue.

Hello, Just a remark to Lenovo design team as I see one design flaw about the hinges on ThinkPads, even from past generations.I am not sure why but the hinges were set like for the other brands, making possible the lid to touch the table which the laptop is on, when we try to open the lid flat.See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qcLuqPskns Before, like the T430u which I still own, the hinges were not set like now, and we could really open the lid 180°. Can the future laptops take that remark into consideration?  Thanks

After having my yoga 460 for about half a year, using it mainly in normal laptop mode in the office, one hinge got stuck while closing laptop and now allow only for limited movement (I cannot close the lid and cannot open more than slighly over 90deg). Suppousedly those hinges survive over 30 000 openings. Apparently not. Anyone else had problems with low build quality of recent thinkpads? Is it just Yoga, or P40 as well? I'm considering changing for some more robust laptop.

The other day I was closing my ThinkPad Yoga, and I noticed a bad-sounding crunch. I tried opening and closing it again, but there didn't seem to be a problem. But I noticed today that something definitely has happened. Now, my hinges are out of alignment with one another. The right hinge looks OK, but the left hinge looks kinked forward. This causes the screen to be lopsided when in laptop mode, but it it also noticeable when the laptop and screen is flattened out. See in the the following image how the right hinge is flat, but the left hinge is kinked up?  Is there anything that can be done about this?

Ouch.... that's gotta hurt  I just grabbed my TP Yoga 14 to see if there is a way, without forcing it, to turn it into that position and it is not possible. Maybe it is time to send you machine to the local Lenovo Service Center and ask if the warranty will take over that. Regards

I would like to get some help hopefully from someone on here. Recently about 2 months ago i had sent my laptop in for a warranty repair (1 year manuf. warrranty) to fix a broken fan and extremely bad light bleed issue with the screen. When I got the laptop back the screen was unchanged although they assured me it was and many of the rubber covers for the screws were also missing, but the fan was fixed. As soon as I had received it back initially the hinges were making a cracking sound but I had thought nothing of it, now they are out of alignment and I am unable to fully close or move the laptop its full range of motion. I was told when I called the warranty center today that i am out of warranty, even when it is lenovo's service technicians who caused this problem. Is there anyone who can help with a resolution to this?

I have ordered the X1 Carbon 7th generation model 3 times so far, exactly like in this article:https://www.tomshardware.com/news/lenovo-laptop-quality-control-issues,37510.html The first time: the touchpad coating was defective. The second time: a mushy keyboard with the letter keys giving out different sounds. The third time (and I still have this unit): The keyboard is back to normal, but the touchpad now gives out sounds like in the cheapest junk out there. The screen hinges are so stiff that there is no way of opening the laptop with one hand, whereas in the second unit I ordered it was possible. My question is if the owners of this model are able to open their laptops with one hand? I now know this is possible in some units but I am wondering if it was just luck the last time or if this should be a standard feature? PS I'm just desperate to have an ok quality laptop on which I can instal linux, that's why I have been reordering it, but frankly I think at this price point it's a joke. Shame on you Lenovo!

Purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge e520 1143-cto from Lenovo in December, 2011 and now it won't power-up. I plug it in wall, press the power button and nothing. 1 year warranty expired December, 2012.

Can't be the power cord: 1) Tried a cord from another Thinkpad (R61i back in 2008 that's slow but still works) but still get no power, and 2) Edge's cord powers up R61i.

Price to fix probably beyond what the laptop's worth but thought I'd ask anyway. Thanks.

A:Solved: Thinkpad Edge won't power-up

Those models have a faulty EEPROM chip on the motherboard. However there is no recall on them so you will have to pay out of pocket to get it fixed. The cheapest and best way to get it fixed is to call Lenovo and buy an extended warranty for about $130(I think) and then use the newly purchased warranty to get a warranty claim to send it in. Turn around is one to two weeks and shipping is covered both ways. The only upside is that you then have a warranty again on the laptop for other possible issues.

Hey guys, Had my Thinkpad Edge E450, for more than a year now. Never really had any problems with the keyboard. However, since yesterday, my keyboard has simply gone crazy on me. Right shift + c no longer registers, even though right shift + any other key still works. c works too along with c+ left shift. w+e keys, when pressed together doesn't register the e although both keys registers fine when pressed individually. Most weird of all is the fact that F4, associated with microphone no longer works either when FN is locked and when it isn't. However, every time I press the G key, the microphone activates/deactivates. I used the lenovo diagnostics tool and the keyboard passed the tests. Tried clean install windows 10 on the whole system and still the same result. Also tried uninstalling all drivers for keyboard in device manager and it still hasn't gotten any better. I didn't do any manual updates or anything that I know of which could affect the keyboard. Please help! That microphone popup is trying to hog my attention whenever I try to write a paper.

Hi,I need a new charger for my thnkpad edge e145 but I'm a bit worried about the specs on the chargers that I have found. On my battery it says that the voltage is 10.8V and current is 5.8Ah but all the adapters I have found that are supposed to be compatible with my laptop have a voltage around 20V and current around 4.5A. For example this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-AJP-IBM-Lenovo-THINKPAD-EDGE-E145-20BCA00L-90W-Ac-Adapter-Charger... Since I don't know anything about how laptop batteries and chargers work I have no idea if a charger with those specs will work for my laptop. Most forums I have looked at seems to suggest that if the current is to low on the adapter it will overheat or not work at all and that to much voltage in the adapter could damage the laptop. Could someone tell me if a charger like this will be safe to use with my laptop? Unfortunately I don't have the charger that came with the laptop anymore so I can't compare it to the new ones. I also couldn't find any information on the adapter on lenovos website or in my hardware maintence manual.

I am presently researching to purchase a laptop for my wife at Christmas who is a teacher thus she will need to access the internet, do Office work, grading, emails, research, etc., but no gaming at all.

Will be running 7 64 OS, with 4 gigs of RAM, and hopefully a 7200 rpm hd. Leaning towards the i5 processor.

The Thinkpad Edge is part of Lenovo's excellent T Series but somewhat less expensive. Looking at current configurations it seems it will deliver what I am looking for but I know nothing of the quality build.

Would love to hear back from people who have used this series and/or from ITs who repair laptops for their insights.

Thanks!

Hello Ecodot,Yes, it is possible to switch out the HDD with a SDD. Depending on the S430 you have you can do a mSATA SDD(S430 Optimus) or SDD.If you would like to look more into the type here is a helpful link(S430 psref): http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/edgebook_WE.pdf

Been navigating a few different forums quite a bit for this one.We downgraded this Lenovo E431 to windows 7 to fit our corporate environment. There is no disable option in the BIOS.The windows 7 drivers do not add the UltraNAV tab. Always fails on the 3rd portion as the 2 green check marks pass on the first 2 components and fail on the 3rd.  Ran under both the user and admin accounts. No other missing drivers. The device manager does not show any touchpad drivers aside from a "universal" mouse driver which can not be uninstalled.Registry mod will not change this. Aside from pulling the ribbon cable out I am sort of at a loss.  First time ever being stumped by a touchpad.....Last time ever buying an E431 for our environment, we've had 3 of these so far and nothing but issues. Sticking with other Lenovo models. Any ideas?

A:Thinkpad Edge E431 - how to disable the touchpad?

I realize this is an old question, but my reply may help some with the same new question.  There's a quick answer for those who know what they are doing and a longer answer for those who don't. On my Lenovo Edge 2-1580 I couldn't turn off the detestable touch pad.  Here's the part you know:Because this is a Synaptics touchpad, the option to disable it if an external mouse is connected, simply isn't there.   You also might know that if you go into regedit and look for  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh and change the value to 33 it should work ... but doesn't. What I found is if you go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh and change THAT value to 33, reboot your computer, it does indeed work!  Pull the receiver from the USB port and the touchpad starts working again! For those not familiar with regedit, your best option is to find someone who is and have them do it because editing the registry is not something you want to be doing if you don't know what you're doing. To give you an idea of how dangerous it is, read this article on what the registry is and how your computer can stop working if you mess it up, http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/what-everybody-should-know-about-windows-registry.htm Now that I've scared the newbies and made them understand how critical it is, it isn't difficult to do this little fix if you can follow instructions.  So here are the step by step instructions for you.&nbs... Hello, I have a Thinkpad e550 that I bought last year. Yesterday while typing my term paper I realized that some of the keys(s,k,d) were not working. Then i realized that the entire function keys row wasn't working either. Upon closer investigation I realized that this was because of the fn key always being depressed(not physically). So I went to the BIOS and swapped the control and the fn key. After a reboot I found that all my keys are working, but the fn key(which is now mapped to the ctrl key) isn't. Is there any fix to this? It seems weird that the function key is always depressed when mapped to fn but doesn't work at all when mapped to ctrl. It's been only a week since my warranty expired and I'm hoping to avoid replacing the hardware. Thanks

Hello everyone, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E430 and it was working fine until today. Today I worked on the laptop as usual and just turned off the Fast Startup setting in the Windows 8 and then restarted the computer. Now it only shows a black screen (LCD backlights are on but there is nothing on the screen). I hear the usual BIOS beep sound but I can't see the BIOS screen or the Windows. I've tried to connect to a an external monitor via HDMI. Amazingly, both my laptop's screen and external monitor works fine when the laptop is connected to the external screen. But when I disconnect them, again I can only see the black screen. I turned on the Fast Startup settings in Windows 8, but it didn't work. Then I loaded the default settings from the BIOS and it didn't worked too. Finally I've installed Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS to test if it is because of the operating system but it didn't help too. I've tried all of this using the laptop's screen while it was connected to the external screen. It is very confusing for me. It seems like the screen is only working when an external screen is also connected to the laptop. I would be very happy if anyone can help me about this problem.
