XPS 15 9530 Base Cover Screws

Q: XPS 15 9530 Base Cover Screws

I've had some issues with the base cover of my newly refurbished XPS 15 9530 and need to replace some longer screws. Does anyone know what type of screws they are? All I know is they are T5 Torx head.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently noticed that two of the case torx screws have fallen out. Where can I find replacements? I believe that the carbon fiber bottom of the case allows the screws to loosen over time.

A:Dell XPS 15 9530 case torx screws

I'm sure you can order them through Dell Spare Parts, or if you're ok with potentially reduced aesthetics, just take one to a local hardware store and ask someone to help you find a matching screw.  As long as the length, inner diameter, thread pitch, and head size match, you're good to go.  You might even prefer to buy Philips head versions and replace all of them. That said, if the existing screws fell out because the threads in the chassis itself are weak, then replacements will fall out as well, so you may want to buy spares.

Hi, Is it possible to have the back cover screws replaced if they wear off? Since mine is starting to wear off due to I got 2 ssd and one of them is my home use ssd and other one is for work/testing ssd so I switch between them alot depending what I'm doing and I noticed couple screws of mine are begining to wear off so it's starting to get harder on unscrew them due to + shape is becoming more rounded each time almost, the laptop itself has no damage on motherboard or any inside area only screws on back cover is wearing out so is it possible to have this fixed or something and does it void the warranty if only screws wear off? I hope not since if so it would be ridiculous reason :/

Warning

It is imperative to check the tightening of the screws of the laptop cover.
If a screw is missing on the hinged side, when opening the screen it is possible that the remaining fixatin will break.
The screws are equipped with thread brake but it becomes inoperative with time

The repair consists in changing all the bottom of the laptop.
What is not easy, the motherboard is fixed inside

I am looking to upgrade the RAM in my Lenovo Flex 6 (14"), but I cannot seem to find a screwdriver that matches the screws that hold the bottom plate in place. They are six-pointed. On the Hardware Maintenance Manual it says that they are Plum Flower Screws (6.5mm, M2), but I cannot find anything matching that description online. Has anyone had any luck unscrewing the bottom panel?

Hi all,
Unfortunately in the process of adding more ram to my dell laptop I managed to break a couple of the hinges on the base cover and lose the metal cylinder which surrounds the single captive screw.
The bottom of my laptop practically threatens to fall off now and the screw is constantly falling out. No amount of twisting secures the screw, which also makes me fear that I may have damaged something.
Any suggestions?

A:Dell 7567 Gaming Bottom Cover and Screws

If the laptop is still functioning without the screw in place, I doubt you broke anything else. Replace the base cover. The part number is V71WR. Call Dell Spare Parts 1-800-357-3355 and ask for price and availability of the Dell part number. Or simply search the web for the part number.

I volunteered to help a friend upgrade the memory and SSD in their Yoga 460. I've worked on a lot of older ThinkPads, and the HMM made it look pretty easy. But when it says "pry" off the bottom cover, they are not kidding! Unfortunately I'd misplaced my spudgers, so I used an old credit card to help pry the cover off. In the process I broke one of the clips near the power connector. I think I pushed the credit card inward a little too hard. The machine went back together OK, but of course there is now a tiny gap where that clip isn't holding it. My friend treats computers fairly roughly and may not care, but it's bugging me a bit. I should have looked more closely before putting the machine back together, but now I don't remember whether the clip I broke off is part of the base cover or part of the piece it snaps onto (the keyboard bezel?). Would anyone happen to know? If the clip was part of the base cover it would be pretty easy to get a new one and replace it. Thanks!

Hello, I am a certified repair technician for a large company. I am also Lenovo certified through my company for warranty repairs. We have ran into an issue with a T450 laptop we have not seen before.  The system came in with a no POST issue. We unplugged the internal and external battery and did the reset by pressing and holding the power button and the small micro switch on the system board for 30 seconds. System would not POST so we ordered a new system board. The new board will NOT work with the bottom base cover installed. It will work with the base off, but as soon as it is put on again, the system does not POST. We then have to unplug both batteries and reset the board in order to even get it POST again (with or without batteries). It does work, with base installed, and no batteries plugged in. However, it also works with batteries installed, and no base cover.  What is causing this problem? We have tried other batteries and bases with no resolution.

Hello everyone, hope we're all well! I'm hoping someone can help me! I recently got a HP Pavilion 15-aw065sa and I love it. I decided to upgrade the SSD, and sadly in doing so, have slightly cracked the underside plastic (about an inch along from the middle of the rear towards the centre of the case). It's not a biggie, but I'd really know if there is anywhere (be it HP or someone else) where I can PAY MONEY (to a limit, lets not go silly, it's just a piece of plastic) to get a replacement. I'm also looking at getting an optical HDD caddy, so a DVD drive front replacement would be useful too! If anyone can help please let me know, it's a great laptop! EDIT: Should mention I checked the part surfer, as well as ebay, and sadly can't find anything

Hi
My Inspiron 13 7348 ( servic tag 4w6yj52)was physically damaged.
one of the two hinges between the display unit  and the base assembly had detached from its cover and parts of the plastics were broken (1. Display BackCover,  2. base assembly.)
1. I uninstalled the base assembly cover
2. I uninstalled the Display BackCover.
then I could clearly see the damaged parts
I opened a service request at Dell site. then I was talking to the part list sale department.
I send them the photos of uninstalled parts (1 & 2)
I asked Dell to have the price for these two parts.
I wanted to purchase these two "Display BackCover & base assembly " (with some attachments on them)
Surprisingly they  to force me to buy the whole display unit which includes the SCREEN and costs about 200$
The Display BackCovly was easily uninstalled , with the guide of the user-manual doc.
I did not succeded to convince DELL that the back-display-cover,  should be sold separately
the Laptop works OK, with the ability to move the display.
Please Help

As is common on hybrid systems, the entire top assembly is fused together with adhesive.  It's all but impossible to disassemble the upper assembly without destroying the glass, LCD and/or defacing the back plastic - as Dell informed you, the entire upper half of the system must be replaced as a single unit.
You'll find this design very common these days on all systems of this type.

I am having some connection problems to a mysql database for a small shop, which is located on a shared hosting server. I am using Open Office Base as a front end on Windows 7. I will create a form which is simple and easy to use for someone that is non technical, I could not use for example phpmyadmin or something that exposes too many options to the employee. OO Base does connect successfully but after a short time of inactivity there is an error message which is SQL Status: HY000 Error code: 2006 MySQL server has gone away. The reason for this has been determined that there is a time out of only 30 seconds which unfortunately I cannot change, as it is set by the hosting company in the my.conf file on the server. They also as most web hosts are of limited help. OK fine so I should just be able to reconnect. The problem is that Open Office proceeds to crash and I have to go through a file recovery window and there are several steps including having to re-type the password again to connect. I really need to solve two things here, prevent OO crashing and also having it realize it lost the connection and just re-connecting, without having to type in the password again. I have tried turning off the auto recovery of files but it didn't work, I have tried adding no restore as an option in the shortcut, also didn't work. I have tried enabling connection pooling, it also didn't work. For reconnecting I tried adding ?autoReconnect=true to the end of the database name a... Read more

Okay, here's the deal.

In XP on my laptop when I go to the folder that has some of my books in it in .pdf format, if I set the 'VIEW' to SMALL ICONS, MEDIUM ICONS, LARGE ICONS I can see what the cover of the book looks like. This makes it so that I don't always have to READ the title of the book to grab the one I need. However, I can't put all my books on my laptop and do most of my work on my desktop.

Here's the rub ... my desktop is running VISTA and when I go to any folder that has books in it in .pdf format, no matter which 'VIEW' I choose, all I see is the Adobe PDF logo.

Can someone help me fix this so that I can see the 'book covers'? PLEASE?

If you need pictures of what I'm talking about, please ask and I'll put them up for you to see.

Thanks

Hello,

As soon as I plug any phone device (Android, BB, iphone, Ipad) to any USB port (2.0 or 3.0), the plugged-in sound plays, then unplugged, and then it will connect/disconnect/reconnect randomly until it is unplugged.
I have tried the same devices (Android, iPhone, Blackberry)  in other laptops/systems running Windows XP/7/8/8.1 and all work fine. I also tried booting to Linux on the XPS and got the same issues as in windows.I'm on A06, every time a new BIOS version comes, I install it hoping that'll fix the problem, however, to no avail.

I don't have the correct tools at the moment to do the battery trick so until I can get my hands on a Torx screwdriver I just want to confirm that the battery trick will most likely work/what the problem is.

I'm trying to push the limits on my XPS 9530.  I found a Crucial 32GB ram Kit on Amazon (CT2KIT204864BF160B), all of the specs for this ram kit seem to match the ram specs for the Dell XPS 9530 (minus the fact that its a 32gb kit and not a 16gb ram kit).  However, I was unable to get the XPS to boot with this kit.Oddly enough, it wouldn't even boot with a single stick and if I put the Dell branded ram in Dimm A, and a Crucial stick in Dimm B, the system would boot but only see 8gb of ram.Either Dell has some hardware setting in the bios that is blocking "unauthorized ram" or I just need to find a different kit.  Though not specific to my model, Dell's website does list a 16gb ram stick with the same ram specs my XPS 9530 uses.  The stick is from VisionTek (B01BKFYL3K) and it is next on my radar.
However, i'm curious if anyone else has attempted to push the boundaries on their laptop and perhaps have a part number they can share OR if you tried a different kit with no luck, that can be useful too.  Will save me time and effort from ordering a dud kit. Thanks!

I have an XPS 15 model 9530 with a swollen battery.  Obviously a defect in material and workmanship. I know that it is out of warranty, but this is just wrong. For what I paid for this laptop, I should not have to be worrying about my touchpad being destroyed by a swollen battery. I read the blogs, this is a common problem and I would like to know what you are going to do about it.  Will you stand behind your product if you are in the wrong?

A:XPS 9530 with swollen battery

Get the battery OUT of the system NOW if it's swelling.  While Dell may or may not eventually agree to replace batteries out of warranty, they just about certainly WILL NOT cover damage to the system caused by leaving a clearly defective battery in the system.
All you can do is ask - or wait and see.

Hello,
I recently bought an XPS 15 (9530) in the Netherlands. Laptop is very nice but i have a big problem with the touchpad. Basically, if the surface where the laptop stands is not 100% solid and flat, the touchpad buttons get stuck when tapped which renders the touchpad almost impossible to use.
Dell replaced the touchpad and the battery but the problem has not gone away.
To my understanding it is either because the laptop is too thin and when the surface is not flat it bends making the buttons stuck, or the specific model has some other problem other than the touchpad.
Anyone has the same problem? Any ideas before i contact my local Dell customer service again?

A:XPS 15 (9530) touchpad problem

Update:
Problem is now resolved on my machine.
It was still under warranty, and so I called Dell support and spent the required time on the phone with a pleasant Dell technician somewhere in India.  She and her supervisor agreed that it was a hardware issue.  A Dell tech showed up at my house with a new touchpad, took the machine apart, and made the replacement.
This fixed the problem.  The touchpad buttons no longer freeze, but work as well as they did when the machine was new.
I decided to call Dell and try to extend the warranty, since I've already had two visits from them.  It appears that the on-site service warranty is probably good insurance for this machine.

Please help.
I have spent 3 hours on the phone with tech support my laptop has been out of commission since mid march. The laptop was serviced on-site once and at Dell's once both with the same result. THe original problem persists.
The problem: The battery won't charge. The tip of the power brick is lit leading me to believe that the brick is ok. Both times it got it back there was some juice on the battery that got replaced. but once that juice ran out, the battery does not charge again.
Of course now, the Laptop is out of warranty and I got routed to the out of warranty dept that promptly dismissed my call.
I've had Dells for the better part of 20 years and have had fine service, this experience has definitively tested my loyalty to the company.

My service tag is CPBKVZ1 the past service request number was 928616597.
WHat can I do?

This has started recently.  I have changed "nothing" except Windows 10 updates.  All Dell software, BIOS and drivers are the latest (verified with Dell support tools and website).
When I select Sleep in the start menu (or press the power button) it should put the system to sleep.  That is what the Power settings in the Control Panel is set to.
However, the system shuts down instead.  The screen turns off, as do the fans and the power button and other keyboard lights. On pressing the power button, the system boots up instead of waking up and my open apps are not there.
Has any one else seen this recently?  I suspect that something in Windows 10 updates or dell driver updates has munged things up.
The BIOS has no apparent Power settings, and I have restored defaults in the BIOS.  To no avail.
Any ideas how to get back the Sleep functionality?
Thanks.

Is the issue seen with both manual and auto sleep? Does the shutdown and restart options work fine?
If the system was working fine at some point earlier, then perform system restore to restore the system to an earlier point where it was working fine - http://bit.ly/1JEw2ov
Create a new local admin account and check if the sleep works fine - http://bit.ly/1JoFhcw
Undo the recent windows updates and check if it works - http://bit.ly/1Pv9Xxc

I have gone into BIOS and set the USB as the boot drive with preference over the already installed Windows 8 drive but it just keeps booting into Windows 8.
I have changed the boot mode setting to "UEFI secure boot off".
The Windows 8 already installed on the laptop has some virus which means admin priveleges have been lost, thats why I want to install Windows 10 from scratch. If I try and install windows 10 as an upgrade whilst Windows 8 is already running then it says It is going to install Windows 10 home even though I have bought Windows 10 pro.
Thanks for any pointers.

Hello,
My 9530 has the 32GB SSD + 1 TB setup.

I'm looking to go all SSD.   But I haven't found any posts specifically addressing whether an NVMe m.2 drive is fully compatible with the 9530.

I'm interested in a Samsung 950 for the speed benefits.   But it seems that they are power hungry and also have issued being recognized on certain XPS models.   Others seem to have gotten the 950 to boot, but aren't seeing the full performance.   Others say that the although the 950 has impressive benchmarks, the real word difference is negligible.
Other posts seems to indicate that the Samsung 951 is more compatible.
Please let me know what the best recommendation would be for optimal performance.
Ideally I could swap the current drives out for a Samsung 950 (256 GB) and a Samsung 850 (1 TB).

Or would I be better off with a Samsung 941, or 951 in place of the 950?
Thanks!

I am trying to do the Windows 10 upgrade from 8.1 on XPS 15 9530 and I get error:
!Display: The Display is not compatible with Windows 10.  Check with the manufacture for support.
I have the latest Dell updates of the Nvida GeForce GT 750M and Intel HD Graphics 4600 for windows 8.1.
Per Dell the XPS 15 is supported for Win 10 and per Nvida, the GT 750M adapter is supported.
Per the my Dell support page, there is a message I can go to Windows 10 (Your device is ready for Windows 10).
How can I get Win 10 on the laptop?  I had tried it before and had same errors.  Time running out.

Hi all,
I just got my new XPS 15, amazing laptop but there's 1 big problem,
A high-pitched scratching/screeching noise is produced from the power button area ONLY when the power is plugged in and the battery is fully charged.
I've seen other forums and others have exactly the same problem, Any ideas?
I found this example http://z.mk/e6vq , the power is plugged into the laptop at 6 seconds.
Thanks
