GTX 1080 Video Hardware Error / LiveKernelEvent

Q: GTX 1080 Video Hardware Error / LiveKernelEvent

Hi, this is only happening when my GTX 1080 is being used during gaming or used with BOINC.

The 1080's fans will go to 100% and the screen will go black.

Mouse and keyboard won't work and I have to hold down the power button on the PC and reboot.

It can happen after 1 minute or 1 hour, there is no pattern.

The card is not overheating, MSI afterburner has it at about 60 degrees C.

Windows and NVidia drivers are up to date.

Any suggestions please? Thanks

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi,
Not sure if it's still true or not in the asus 1080 but their 980 hates high resolutions and only as high as 144Hz
Is okay using msi afterburner though but gpu tweak it is total garbage

My evga 980 hybrid = reference card performs better
So yea asus is off my gpu consideration list

My laptop is Alienware M15x, 8GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M (65 W) and I am using the latest driver provided on Dell's page.

Thank you

Hi there,
Here are a few things to try with this error.
1.) make sure all vents on the laptop are clean and clear, there might be a heat build up causing the video to crash.
2.) make sure you check for malware
3.) even tho you have the most current drivers try to uninstall them reboot and reinstall one of the files might have become corrupt.
4.) make sure you have updated your directx files one might have become corrupt.

Try this and let us know.

A:Video hardware failure: LiveKernelEvent

Hello Roebuck and welcome to the Forums,

Please follow the BSOD Posting Instructions and upload the .zip file created so that we can analyze your problem.

The BSoD you are experiencing, Stop Code 0x117, is usually the result of a failing GPU driver, but we can't be sure until we've seen your dump files.

Also, when I look at your system specs, I see that you have "Victoria" listed as your OS? Please correctly fill in your system specs by following this tutorial.
Good luck and keep us updated,

Hey people,
some weeks ago I started having this problem when I play an specific game (Counter-Strike: Global Offensive). Few minutes after I start the game the computer freezes, the screen become brown and I have to reset it (since I disabled auto reboot on system failure). My graphics card is relatively new in comparison to the rest of the system. I have one HDD that have a failure (don't remember witch one), that is where the OS and all the programs (except the games) are installed on, the HDD that holds the games is fine. It only happens when I play this specific game. On the Reliability Monitor I get Hardware Error.

It is related to my hardware or system?

LivekernelEvent - win32k.sys - it is related to hardware issue?

But why i dont saw a bluescreen and windows only report this.

Memtest86 no errors. Games are not crashing. No Bsods,no freezing etc.

Windows 10 ,newest Anniversary update.

Hello,

Last Christmas, I tried to build a PC for my parents. It almost worked, except that every once in a while, the screen would freeze and the display would go all monochromatic, leaving no choice except to push the reset button. This happened with at least half a dozen different video card drivers, although with the older ones, it gave me a straight BSOD whereas with the newer ones it looks like the video was so corrupted that it couldn't even display the blue screen.

The Windows problems and solutions thingy said that this was a video hardware error, so when I came back for this Christmas, I bought a brand new video card (an Nvidia GeForce GT210 which replaced an ATI Radeon HD 4550)... but the only thing that changed was the fact that the screen no longer went monochromatic after a freeze, now it just plain freezes. I've tried updating the BIOS and the chipset drivers and I ran memtest86+ and the Windows Memory Diagnostic, but these did not show any problems.

The zipped html report and output of your jcgriff2 exe are attached. In answer to the questions in the instructions:

1) The OS is Windows 7 Professional x64
2) It is the original OS installed (meaning, there were no others before it)
3) It is a full retail version
4) The hardware is 1 year old except for the new video card which arrived last Tuesday (i.e. 5 days ago)
5) The OS is also 1 year old (it has not been reinstalled)

Thank you for your assistance.

A:Video hardware error -- but independent of video card

Hi again,

I've been reading some of the other threads on this forum and tried following the instructions. I ran memtest for 6 passes instead of 1 as I did before (still no errors) and I tried uninstalling the Gigabyte power management and other utilities which almost certainly made it worse (the frequency of crashes has increased). I also tried reading the dump files, but all they say on the surface is that the Nvidia (or earlier, before I changed cards, ATI) drivers are at fault and I lack the expertise to understand the details.

Can anybody help? Or is this hopeless and I need a new motherboard?

Hi

This is the second video card I have had this problem with, First was an MSI GT610 1GDDR3 passive cooled card on a MSI P35 Neo motherboard. Unfortunately hot plugging this card into another monitor while trying to diagnose the problem blew the DVI port so it was replaced with an Asus GT610 1GDDR3 also passively cooled but the problem has re-occured.

I was running an old version of prime95 to stress my E8400 CPU to check load temperatures. But when I closed prime95 the screen went black then came back on with lots of the graphics on programs I was running missing.

Also a bubble popped up saying the nvidia driver had stopped responding and recovered after the black screen. I cant believe two video cards, different makes are faulty. In the reliability section of action centre it says video hardware error. In event viewer it says kernal error at the time of this black screen.

Is it a driver problem or hardware? The motherboard is from 2008 and used 24/7 til now and I have heard the capacitors are not of the highest quality. Below is a screenshot of the reliabilty error details. Any ideas? I am now using the latest prime95 and cant reproduce the problem.

A:Video hardware error, or is it?

Unfortunately hot plugging this card into another monitor

FTR, I know of no graphics card or monitor that supports hot swapping. While HDMI cables are supposed to allow hot swapping, in practice, not all equipment does. The problem is the pins are too many and too close and if the user does not perfectly align the plug before connecting, or does not have a rock-steady hand, a short or arcing may occur. I have seen where this practice took out monitors and TVs too. Not just the card (or motherboard, in the case of integrated graphics).

I don't recommend the use of Prime95 for troubleshooting. Prime95 is designed to stress hardware to its breaking point, subjecting your components to abuse, and potentially damaging high heat.

Below is a screenshot of the reliabilty error details. Any ideas? I am now using the latest prime95 and cant reproduce the problem.

If you cannot reproduce the problem, then maybe it was a one-off problem. I note that was from the 28th so I assume it has been working fine since.

The motherboard is from 2008 and used 24/7 til now and I have heard the capacitors are not of the highest quality.

24/7 for 7 years running surely indicates there is nothing wrong with the quality of the components used on that board.

There is nothing wrong with passively cooled graphics cards either. Just remember, it is the computer case's responsibility to provide a sufficient supply of... Read more

Hi everyone

My laptop (Acer Aspire 7736Z) tends to "freeze" when playing videos such as youtube or other online streaming media. When I say "freeze" I mean the sound slows down and turns into more of a screech sound than actual music. The monitor is stuck and nothing can be done for at least 2-3 minutes. After that it jumps back to regular, but if I don't exit youtube, it'll do it again.

I've already installed all the latest drivers, re?nstalled Windows 7 (fresh install). I've reinstalled schockwave/flash, but it still happens

If I go to "Windows Problems" I receive this error:

I've been having problems with the ATI drivers for my HD Radeon 5470. In the last few weeks, a problem with my video hardware has caused my computer to freeze and the screen to go black for a few seconds every now and then. Most of the time, Windows manages to get the video card running again and the screen returns to normal. On one occasion, it froze and the screen remained frozen, so I had to force a shutdown. The video hardware error seems to happen when a lot of memory is being used (for example, doing a virus scan). Please help.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).

Hi NewYorkGiant and Welcome.

STOP 0x00000117: VIDEO_TDR_TIMEOUT_DETECTED
Usual causes: Video driver/sub-system

This stop usually occurs when you ask your video/graphics drivers to do more than they are capable of. E.G. play a graphics intense game using only your on board graphics.
Also bear in mind that your installed RAM is very low at 1Gb.

To see if we can help to ease the problem, we really need to see the dump files.

A:Video Hardware Error

Have you tried updating the video drivers? That may help. Some drivers may be problematic, especially if they are outdated. (Example: 353.54 WHQL is known to cause BSODs on Windows 10.)

Don't know if this is the right place to put this but lately over the course of the past couple weeks I have been getting more video hardware errors. Usually they happen when I am playing Hearthstone or close hearthstone. I have a feeling this is why the fan on my laptop seems to be louder as well. If I go into the problem details I get what I have below

I have not had this before Any ideas the laptop is a Lenovo W520
I have Windows 7 if you need any other details just ask

Maybe if I clean my laptop (although I don't know how) it might help

Hello helpful people of TechSpot,

I'm creating this thread because my graphics card is reoccurring problem. This problem occurs on multiple occasions. I am sure loading a game (Civilization V, Starcraft 2) is causing this to occur but in the past I think running multiple applications (web browser, music application, games) has also had the same effect. This error isn't constant, I have had multiple occasions where I can load multiple apps. or a game as mentioned and have no video hardware error at all.

The only other thing I can report is before I installed my new graphics cards, (see specs below) I had another card that I swapped out. The software is still installed but I figure that doesn't effect my current graphics card. I have installed the software for my new graphics card using the CD software but I fear something may have gone awry.

My specs are:
Graphics Card:
ASUS HD7870-DC2TG-2GD5-V2 Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition
Motherboard:
ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68

When I play games, mainly World of Warcraft and The Sims 3, I'll occasionally get a video hardware error. If I'm playing WoW, the screen just flashes black, recovers and I can continue playing. If I'm playing The Sims 3, it keeps erroring until it locks up the whole laptop and I have to restart. But a message in the Action Center pops up saying that it was a video hardware error.

I have an Acer Aspire 7740-5691 with an Intel Graphics Accelerator. I'm running Windows 7. I checked Intel's driver updates and it only showed one update and that is the current video driver I have. The old driver's no good, because with it my games weren't playable. Graphics flashing, and textures not showing up.

So, I was wondering if there is something else I could do to stop these errors? This is a new laptop. I've only had it a couple of months.

When i'm playing games like cs source, cod4 or using certain software from 10 minutes to 2 hours, the image of the screen suddenly freezes, the black screen appears for a few seconds, video driver recovers, video memory controller load locks up at 100%, the performance of a pc decreases a little bit and windows reports me this http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/9271/16759273.png. This error has been persisting since i assembled my pc six months ago. It really bothers me.

I have tried so far:
Updating video drivers
Running memory test (8 passess, duration 7:47 = no errors)
Plugging video card in another PCI-E socket
Plugging monitor cable into another DVI connector.
Formattting HDD

Can anybody help me solve this issue?

If you are able to build a computer, you know everything points to memory or graphics card or driver.

If you made the memory test with the built in memory diagnostics (it is very inaccurate), try with this: Guide to using Memtest86+

Thanks,

A:Video hardware error

The STOP 0x117 error is similar to the STOP 0x116 error - and you use similar methods to troubleshoot it ( http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tml#post280172 )

Unplug the system, open the case and check to ensure that the coolers are clear of lint/hairballs.
Plug the system in to check that all the fans are working (KEEP HANDS OUT OF THE CASE!!!)
Remove the current video drivers, download the latest drivers from Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers and install them.

If this still doesn't help, then try another video card.

Good luck!

Hi, I bought my PC back in 2009. Everything was fine for the first year or so but since then I've been getting this strange problem at least once or twice a week. When playing a game, mainly World of Warcraft, my screen would go all black, monitor's light (the one that tells you the monitor is turned on) would keep flashing and I would hear the sound coming from the game for about 5 seconds after which I'd get a sound like "bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" meaning everything is totally dead and I need to pull the cable out and put it back in (power button or restart don't help). Either this would happen or I'd get a BSOD.

I've been using this GeForce 8800 Ultra with Windows 7 x64 since the release of Windows 7 with no problems. Had the latest (Nov 09) drivers installed.

Yesterday, I get a Video Hardware Error at 10am.

Then 4 errors at 9:30 pm - Video Hardware Error/Windows stopped working/Video Hardware Error/Shut down unexpectedly (with a BSOD).

Today I updated to the latest nVidia drivers from 1/19/2010, but get another Video Hardware Error at 11am and then 2 more just an hour ago.

I've had computers my whole life and my common sense is telling me that my video card is dying - or basically some bad memory on the card which is the same end result. Does anyone know of a program that will test my video memory and/or video card to see if it's on it's way out? All of these problems happened without even stressing the card - no gaming, just displaying a 1920x1200 windows desktop.

I've used ATI and nVidia cards back and forth (not to mention 3dfx in the old days). Because of driver issues, I'm firmly in the nVidia camp now and wouldn't buy an ATI. So what are the top of the line nVidia cards now? Back when I built my machine in Nov 2007, the 8800 Ultra was the top card. Is the 200 series the top now? I'm looking at the GTX 295 if I need to replace the 8800 Ultra.

Cheers.

A:Video hardware error

I'm not sure how to best test the card. However, Furmark:

FurMark: Graphics Card Stability and Stress Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net

really stresses cards. I've had it produce errors on an overclocked card that could complete the 3DMark Vantage set of tests at standard resolution.

A few months ago, I had errors with a GTX280. I thought at first that they were driver errors, but it turned out to be a failing card. Replacing it under an RMA fixed things.

In the nVidia universe, the GTX200 series is their high end at the moment. Don't confuse this with the GTS200 series. The GTX260, lowest end card in that series, is very different from a GTS250. The 295 is a dual-GPU product, and seems to need drivers that support SLI. The 285 is their best single GPU card. I'd suggest the 285 if you aren't a gamer. (Actually, it's probably total overkill if you're not a gamer, but your tastes appear to run towards expensive cards.) I'm not sure when nVidia will introduce their next product line, which will probably leapfrog the performance of the ATI Radeon 5800 series. I don't believe any dates have yet been announced. I imagine that the new series will induce buyer's remorse in anyone who purchases a current high-end nVidia product.

Hi,

my Action Centre warned me today about a "Video Hardware Error" and tells me that my gfx card drivers stopped working (multiple times). I also have dump files, however, before attaching those I wanted to ask how seriously I should take the following statement in the "Video Hardware Error" message (in order not to upload infected files to the forum):
Warning: If a virus or other security threat caused the problem, opening a copy of the files could harm your computer.

Also, although I have 2x2GB RAM installed, two days ago I discovered that my PC tells me that 2 out of 4GB are usable and in BIOS only 2048MB RAM are found (I have changed slots etc and am pretty certain that one of the two sticks just died). One worry, as all these issues seem so unrelated, is that maybe my motherboard is broken.

Please tell me if it is safe to upload the dump files and I will do so later today!

Cheers,
Me

Greetings.

Recently I have come across "Hardware Video" errors. I sure hope this isn't anything serious as I haven't seen freezes, orveating issues or any blue screens since it started to happen'.

I'm on a 2011 Toshiba core i3 laptop that has an nvdia 315 graphics card. Two years ago I updated the nvidia drivers, which was a really bad decision.

My laptop is of great importance to me. I've put four years of my life and work into this machine. I have valuable work for me here. Losing all of this would really, really be a BAD thing to me. Do I need to worry? Should I start backing up some of the files somewhere?

Here's what it showed me after opening Star Wars Unleashed 2, then it worked after.

And I've been getting BSOD, from BAD_POOL_HEADER which i can't remember the specific problems shown on the blue screen, sometimes it would suddenly go on blue screen when i just normally open some folders, app, programs, surf the net. To probability that i get blue screen every month is like 1/4 or somewhere there. and it's all random BSOD.

BTW this is a newly built computer, it's been with me for atleast 4-5months.

Hello Comunity, I have HP Envy (J Series, if its matters) Laptop and I want to know if its possible to upgrade existing video card to GTX 1070. I tried to google and didnt not find anything, so I suppose its not possible otherwise somebody would post video on youtube.. I just want to know what is the most powerful video card I can install for my laptop? I am going to use it for rendering, so gaming video card like GTX 1070m ( there is laptop version of it right?) is prefered. Questions:1. Is it physicaly possible to install GTX 1070 for the HP Envy 17" laptop?  There is laptop version of this video card right as I know ( GtX 1080 and 1060 also good if they fit.) 2. If its not possible to install GTX 1070 the most powerful video card I can fit in?http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html - I used this as a reference. My PC specs: i7-4700MQ CPU @2.40GHz & 12ram & GeForce GT 740M at the moment. Thank you!

Machine info
ATI HD 5770 card, 1gig gddr5 mem
win7 home premium
i5 750 2.67ghz, 4gig DDR3, Asus P7P55 m/board, 2x samsung spinpoint F3s
PSU Coolermaster 460W

Had this machine a couple of weeks now and things started well... However about a week back I started getting "Video hardware error" - "A problem with your video hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly." Incidents hit 20 ish a day a couple of days back. I rolled it back to a time when there had only been 1/2 issues, clean installed latest ATI drivers. It locks up completely for maybe 10 secs, the screen goes a misty colour overall and the message that the device has recovered comes up.

I guess I'm looking for pointers/things to try really. I could rollback to the start and check it out then but would prefer not to have the hassle. It happens when the system is idle as well as when I'm browsing or whatever (not a gamer). (I have Hijackthis log and the like if it helps). There is a "feel" that it is something scheduled - something trying to update or something, very very roughly about three hourly or so.

I can supply any other info that folk consider relevant but there is relatively little installed now & even less actually running.

TIA
Herby

A:Machine lockups with "Video hardware error"

If this is a custom built machine, then you need to look at two possible causes the power supply being inadequate for the video card, or the video card failing.

If this is an OEM Machine then I would simply return it.
