AVG Stuck Healing

Q: AVG Stuck Healing

Hi,

I have AVG internet security installed on my computer. It runs really well (despite it slowing my computer slightly )

However when I run a scan, reaching the end, it automatically begins "healing" any threats it may have come across. This is all well and good but when it gets right to the end of this process it seems to get stuck almost like it crashes. My cursor turns into the sand timer and "(NOT RESPONDING)" appears in the top of the window?!

It's not a massive problem but I thought I'd post the query in case there's either something I'm doing wrong or in case anyone else has encountered this problem before.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently wrote a review of a just-being-released addition to the ThinkPad line, the 14? T490s.  My writeup was based on the one system I had in front of me and, as always with pre-released systems, documentation was sparse at best.  The computer had very early drivers and system software but was remarkably stable and reliable.  New system software started to appear, and I noticed a new BIOS image, that was described as the initial release, but was substantially newer than what was on my computer.  I always try to apply updates as early as possible on any machines I review, hoping to identify any unexpected issues before the general market.  During the BIOS update, a message I had never seen flashed by.  As a result of nothing more than blind luck, my camera happened to be within reach and the battery was charged.  I apologize for the quality of the photo, but there was no time for staging.

New message

Based on what I can ascertain, the process is intended to be completely invisible to the user, other than the message I noticed.  After a BIOS update, the BIOS restarts and, after initialization, the image is backed up before booting into Windows or another operating system.   On subsequent startups, if there is a problem starting, the backed-up BIOS image is restored automatically.  In some ways, this is similar to the way Microsoft handles drivers in Windows.

Listen, guys,
MY OS: WinXP
Antivirus: AVG
VIRUS NAME: Trojan Horse PSW.Generic2.QEO ... i didnt find single link on internet.
File size: 3,88kb

I noticed the file keeps popping up -- C:\Windows\system32\CsdDriver.sys , I was reading a post here http://forums.techguy.org/security/502809-solved-virus-keeps-popping-up.htm , but there is a bit different, it pop ups again and again, I updated my AVG, its fixing it, but it appears after a few seconds. The thing is that there are no C:\WINDOWS\system32\UpperHost.dll file... And this is quite odd, if there was, I could act as the man said in the previous Link..

I have had this issue for many months, now. I loaded Vista x64 Home Premium to run in a dual-boot configuration with my XP Pro. I do critical work so I didn't trust going to Vista exclusively. I mainly wanted it to see if I could utilize all my RAM and speed up Photoshop processing.
I have had it working three or four times, (except for tablet functionality) then when I must re-boot because of SP1 and other security updates or in one case, I installed Office 2007, it does nothing on restart; black screens and just sits there, totally unresponsive. No blinking of the LED which shows drive activity. When re-booting, F8 isn't working (nothing happens). Regarding the previous instances, I gave up trying to get it to respond and went back to booting into XP, which always works fine. Then after a period (usually a month or more) I will try booting into Vista, on restart, and viola, it works again!

Somehow my computer contracted a Win32.HEUR virus off of an accidental spam site visit, and now my computer is full of infections.

At first I tried using AVG, but the virus basically overpowered it and tried to uninstall it.. So I got Kaspersky's virus removal tool. It seems to have taken care of the heur for the most part, but now I have a rootkit.tdss that just won't go away.

The problem is, I can't kill any processes, it's locked my taskbar out, I can hardly open any programs, it just says "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is alread yinstalled, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." I can run programs if I select "run as administrator" but thats the only way they will work right now..

There are other symptoms as well, the whole pc is a complete mess right now, I've been working on it all day and night trying to get the infections cleared out. I just ran Hijackthis and I have a log I can post if necessary.

Is there anything else that I can do get this thing off of my computer??

-EDIT

I forgot to mention that when running malwarebytes or kasperskys virus removal, before I can complete the scan, the computer forces a shutdown.

I spent the night at my sister's the other day. She was agitated while using her laptop. Typical complaints, it is slow to respond, some programs won't open at all, and pop ups. I ran a few of the scans that I've used in the past and it's more responsive, there aren't any more popups flashing, but it still lags. I am hoping some wise soul on here can take it to the next level.

Thanks in advance!

I'm currently disturbed by this popup every time i open my computer. Whatever user I log-in the same popup appears. The title of the popup is "C:\WINDOWS\system32\keyboard\services.exe" Below that, a message says that Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\keyboard\services.exe'.This started when I transferred video clips from an mp4(ipod). Of coarse, I scanned it first using my updated AVG free edition and found no threat. After that i downloaded a free realplayer11 from cnet (here's the url: http://download.cnet.com/RealPlayer/3000-1...-10073040.html). It was saved to my desktop so as the video clips that I transferred. Then I tried to install realplayer but upon running the downloaded installer, it warned me that the computer will be restarted after the installation. So, I decided to cancel it first and remove first the mp4(ipod) and the flash drive of my cousin (which was already there when I used the computer). I failed in safely removing the mp4(ipod) but succeeded in removing the flash drive. I then, decided to forcefully remove the mp4(ipod) and started a computer scan. As expected, I found 1 trojan and successfully healed it. AVG asked for a restart and I clicked 'yes'. From that time, this annoying popup shows. The incident happened while I'm using the Administrator Account.I'm using Windows XP Professional SP2Please help me with this problem....

A:Popup After Healing Infected File

Hi and welcome..Its not unusual to receive such an error after using specialized fix tools.A "Cannot find...", "Could not run...", "Error loading... or "specific module could not be found" message is usually related to malware that was set to run at startup but has been deleted. Windows is trying to load this file but cannot locate it since the file was mostly likely removed during an anti-virus or anti-malware scan. However, an associated orphaned registry entry remains and is telling Windows to load the file when you boot up. Since the file no longer exists, Windows will display an error message. You need to remove this registry entry so Windows stops searching for the file when it loads. To resolve this, download Autoruns, search for the related entry and then delete it.Create a new folder on your hard drive called AutoRuns (C:\AutoRuns) and extract (unzip) the file there. (click here if you're not sure how to do this.)Open the folder and double-click on autoruns.exe to launch it.Please be patient as it scans and populates the entries. When done scanning, it will say Ready at the bottom.Scroll through the list and look for a startup entry related to the file(s) in the error message.Right-click on the entry and choose delete.Reboot your computer and see if the startup error returns.Next run MBAM:Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (v1.34) and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2If you have a previous version of MBAM, remove it via ... We?ve covered how to use the old school CHKDSK command check on disk in Windows 7 yesterday but what we didn?t touch is actually even better. It?s a nice new feature that I didn?t realize its existed either until very recently.

Basically, once the feature is turned on, Window will detect a physical file system error and automatically fix it on the fly without you even noticing it happened. Because of this, you actually have a lot less chances having to run CHKDSK to check the disk manually because most likely the errors you suspected may have been fixed by this self-healing process already.

NTFS Self-healing is turned on by default in Windows 7 but if you are not sure you can use the following command to make sure. Note that the command has to be run as Administrator.

Yes, the data may potentially be removed silently without user?s knowledge during the self-healing process. It throws a BSOD (blue screen of death) and shuts everything down instead of attempting to fix the error, if the system discovers any NTFS corruptions.

A:Preparing automatic repair - stuck - Desktop won't load Windows, stuck at BIOS

Quote:

- While doing all this and when the problem started I monitored all the temperatures with the digital monitor. VGA, CPU, and everything else was not hot at all. CPU never passed 80 celcius, average was maybe 75 celcius for example.

80C while in the BIOS? That is not fine at all, something isn't cooling that processor correctly.

I would recommend taking the heat sink off and reapplying the thermal paste. Then reseat the cooler.

After a power outage 3 weeks ago I was having issues with the system going down at around 5 minutes and then less and less time after that. I was told it was a display issue and to uninstall and reinstall my display drivers. I uninstalled my drivers and it was still the same. I felt like it was temperature related. I found my graphics card (Radeon 5700) was dirty. I cleaned it and thought I was back in business. Everything was back to normal, all I needed to do was update my graphics drivers. Once that was done, my computer would no longer load past the Windows splash screen.

I used Puppy Linux on a flash drive and I have access to everything. I can use the internet and access all my files. This to me says that it is not a hardware issue.

The fact that when I try to go into safe mode it gets stuck for more than a day on classpnp.sys (when I finally give up). I understand that classpnp.sys has loaded but, there is something after that that the computer can't load. I have seen some people have atipcie.sys load after classpnp.sys and it makes sense to me that it would be a graphics driver that is causing the issue.

I need my Windows 7 up and running for school and work projects. Any ideas, thoughts, or help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried using the driver CD to see if it will help with anything rebooting and I did some Express Test. It gave me this code:

Error Code:    650F:136C
Msg:    IDE device failed. Blank media or no media is present in optical drive. Test requires media with data (Resource CD, Installation CD).

Have no clue what it is. Ive done some reading on Mup.sys. It requires me to remove some 'USB card'. I dont really see any . Any advice would be appreciated or if you have anymore further queries let me know.

HI Jon,
Thats not  a error to worry about.
That error comes up when u run express test on the computer and the cd drive is empty.
Are we working on a notebook or a desktop.
And mup.sys is a system file .You can repiar mup.sys by following these steps.
1>Start the computer from the Windows Xp CD.2>At the Welcome to Setup screen, press R to repair. 3>At the C:\Windows prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: ren c:windows\system32\drivers\mup.sys mup.old4>At the C:\Windows prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:expand <cd-romdrive>:\i386\mup.sy_ c:\windows\system32\drivers\mup.sys5>After the file is successfully expanded, type exit, and then press ENTER to exit Recovery Console. 6>Restart the computer.

Hi, Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Diagnostic Menu option ( f2 ) and run the tests on the Hard Drive and Memory. Post back with the results, including any error codes that may be generated. Can you also post back with the full Model No. and Product No. of your hp 2000 series notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information. Regards, DP-K

Good afternoon all, My z570 is about 5 years old but still works/worked fine unitl  was rudely forced to install windows 10 creators 2 weeks ago, there was no option to not install and now stuck in the boot sequence. My z570 shipped with win 7 originally, then to win 8 and fianlly we had the free upgrade to windows 10 last year and all without any problems, everything worked untill the forced install was thrust upon me.As you can see in the picture that's how far my laptop gets and no further, this is obviously a win 10 creators edition issue as the previous win 10 worked great.I've tired safe mode and it will boot into safe mode but I can not find out how to fix it. Does anyone have a solution to this?

When I open it, though the password Feild is flooded with characters that I can't see, because it's the space for my laptop, and yet none of my keys are pushed down so I'm not sure which keys are 'stuck'. I've tried compressed air, vaccuming it, running my hands on the keyboard, even turning it over and tapping it from the bottom so I have no idea what else I can do.

Hi Guys,

We have a single user here that has problems with stuck outbox messages in outlook. Off of only one of his email accounts in his profile. Off of only his computer. There are definitely some patterns of characteristics from the emails though, which I would imagine have something to do with the problem. They are: They almost always include attachments, they've always got multiple recipients and CC's, and they're almost always replies in threads of emails being sent back and forth.

Clearing out and recreating his profile doesn't help, doing the standard "take off some of the 'RE:'s in the subject line", throw it in drafts and then re-send it, copy-and-paste it into a new message altogether... some of these randomly help solve problems at total random, but 99% of the time they don't work.

My only workaround that works completely is using a virtual box (or logging in through another PC), setting up his profile and forwarding the stuck message from the outbox on the alternate computer.

Now obviously that means it's not our email host, and it's not some strange format or character that's universally just not able to send... what happens with these messages is that they aren't even looked at, they don't even begin to send (sometimes attachments would explain a delay as it would take time to send out a big file), they're just ignored permanently on his computer.

I obviously see a solution would be to switch out his desktop, but that's kind of like saying "... Read more

A:Outlook stuck outbox- Not conventional 'stuck' either

Greetings!

I have a bit of experience with Outlook and Exchange, so I have a few questions for you--
Are you running in a Microsoft Exchange environment, and if so, which version?
What antivirus are you running on the affected PC?
Do you have any special spam filtering or virus scanning on the mail server that is specifically for email?

I've seen where certain antivirus products can cause these "stuck" outbox issues. I assume you've tried the basic F9 (send/receive) to try and force the message through as well?

Thanks

A:Vista Gets Stuck, and Stuck on windows 7 install

I'd suggest starting with running a memory test ( http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...torial146.html ); then following that with a bootable hard drive diagnostic:

Here's a description from my blog:

Code:
What you'll need:
- a blank CD
- a computer with an internet connection where you can download a file, install a small program, and burn a CD (doesn't have to be the computer that you'll be testing).

1. Determine the make and model of your hard drive

- In Windows XP - Go to Start...Run...and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Click on the + sign next to Disk Drives and use Google to search the information listed there)

- In Windows VISTA - Go to Start...and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Click on the + sign next to Disk Drives and use Google to search the information listed there

- From outside of Windows: Unplug the system from the wall, remove the battery (if it's a laptop) and crack the case open. Look inside to locate the hard drive and write down the make and model number (although the model number isn't required for the test, it will help you to identify what sort of drive to replace if the test says that the drive is bad).

If you're unable to see the hard drive info, follow the steps below for the Hitachi DFT. At the screen where it asks you if the list is correct, the model number of your drive will be there. Use Google to search for the model and that will let yo... Read more

By far the simplest fix is to use System Restore to roll back Windows to a point in time when everything when your computer was functioning correctly. It allows you to undo system changes without affecting your personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos. Video: Fixing a problem using System Restore If that doesn't help, try restoring an earlier system image or backup. No suitable restore point, backup, or image available? this is a many faceted and increasing in facets issue (ill try to make it as short as possible);

backstory:
the male side of my video cable connection (the part on the motherboard) had bent pins; the pins were unbent and the cable was able to fit back in, BUT

problems:
the picture was garbled--wrong colors, moving lines, etc. the people at a tech store told me the video cable was pinched and knowing that it had been jammed in the hinge for a while, i believed it extremely feasible. I finally ordered a new video cable but replaced it, and to no avail. the picture may have been slightly better--but not significantly if so; additionally (and im not sure if it was this way the first time as well) the computer was displaying at the size of the external.

i restarted, and reazlied that the laptop screen displayed nothing at startup, until logged in--exactly like the external. i figured that at least a portion of what was going on was the computer was sending the external screen signal to the laptop.

things i've tried:

-reseating both ends of the new video cable MANY times
-turning the computer off, taking out battery, holding start button, putitng battery back in, restarting
-every variation of screen resolution/external monitor setting
-pluggin in the external, putting laptop to sleep, unpluggnig external
-reinstalling video/image drivers
function key combinations

I was asked to give additional info on my problem. I am using windows 7 on internet explorer. We are connected with at&t for the internet. The computer is a 4 month old Dell Inspiron 660 with i5 processor. I recently had a trojan horse that totally messed up my computer so badly that I brought it to a computer repair shop and had windows reloaded. The computer is working fine now. Before the trojan horse I was using Office 2003 and doing all my emails from outlook. When windows was reloaded I uploaded the same Office 2003. I configured emails to go to outlook but for the life of me outgoing emails are getting stuck in the outbox. I can go over to google gmail and both send and receive emails (I just like the outlook setup). There is alot of info on the internet on how to change your emails over to outlook. I am currently using IMAP. I also tried it with POP3 but no matter what I do outgoing emails go to the outbox. I feel the system is configured correctly. I get a message that the info I put in is correct. I have no problem receiving emails on outlook.

What can I do to be able to send emails out using outlook 2003? I can send an email out on google gmail so I don't have a problem with the internet connection. Thanks for your input!!

A:Solved: outgoing emails stuck in outlook 2003. Emails getting stuck in outbox

In almost all cases, it's just a matter of the settings not being correct, maybe the SMTP port number is incorrect or authentication needs to be turned on.

Also, if you had messages already waiting in the Outbox before changing any settings, you should delete those and try sending a new message.

Here's the AT&T settings: http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB401570&cv=801&_requestid=334567#fbid=Yg-D7qm9g7_

It's pretty close for Outlook 2003.

Q: Stuck!!

Hi everyone,

I've had to post this from a separate PC because when I try to post, the page will just come up 'Cannot Display the page' and I have to start over again. I've been having some problems with my computer going back a couple weeks now. What it's doing is the system will become so bogged down after about 30mins to an hour that it's unuseable. I've been able to fix most things until I stumbled upon this. I've ran AVG, Spybot and other things in safe mode but nothing seems to want to shake it. It also redirects alot when I'm using IE as well.

I've also noticed random Trojan messages from AVG pop up but most the time when I click on 'Move to vault' it will tell me the file doesn't exsist. Another thing is that it will randomly play that windows sound, the one where for example, when you exit Outlook and it asks to compact your messages.

I've attached the files that were outlined in the sticky and pasted the DDS below. Can anyone please help, I really really dont want to have to format the PC. Thanks in advance!

Hi!
My XP pro was perfectly fine untill one day it started getting stuck at startups. When i first start the computer, it gets stuck after aprox 30 secs and requires a reboot. On the second go it takes it about 40 secs before it freezes again. On the 3rd time - 45 secs and so on. Eventually, after about 10 restarts, the windows manages to stay up and running.
Now, what have i already tried? Well, it runs perfectly well when in safe mode, so that eliminates a few things. I've tried all that the windows troubleshooter suggested which was to
- use system restore. i restored it to before the SP2 was installed and even as far back as i could. i didn't have any restore points created by me. only automatic ones..
- try and disable some hardware on the device manager
- perform a selective boot without the startup items, the system.ini, win.ini etc'.
- rollback drivers
- check for viruses.
All these did nothing at all. The next step on the troubleshooter was to uninstall windows XP.
IS THERE ANY OTHER WAY?!
hope there is...
Noam

Have you tried running MSconfig and taking processes out of the startup to determine the program that's stopping the machine?? I don't mean all processes, I mean one by one.

Frequent causes of stuff like this is spyware, and ironically anti-virus as well.

A scandisk, virus check, spyware check (in that order) are recommended.
Then use MSConfig. Remove any non-service startup program that's there. Add them back one by one until you identify the program. For services use the Services program in administrative tools- for various reasons fiddling with services from msconfig is not a good idea. Disable particularly third party services.

Have you looked in the event viewer, system and application sections? Are there any errors happening? particularly those before a lockup? Or is there a common "last entry" in either before the lockups? That might help identify the culprit.

I'd say your devices are fine if safe mode works. System restore probably wasn't useful if it's a third party (Non-ms program).

If you said that removing all startup items still had problems but safe mode worked, I'd run system file checker (open a command prompt then sfc /scannow). barring other revelations, at that poitn I'd consider a reinstall. If safe mode's had problems, take a look at the hardware, particularly motherboard caps.

PS- Welcome to Techspot!

I read the New Instructions thread and I tried downloading DDS. When I did though I started it up and the program just shut down right away. My computer has been preventing me from properly using Ad-aware and Superantispyware. Because everytime I have them run the computer shuts down right away and comes back on. When it goes back on though and I check ad aware or superantispyware they wont open. So I'm blocked from it practically.

The other thing my computer has been doing is that its been preventing me from seeing links on google so I'll often paste the link up in the browser or I click on "Cached" and I seem to be able to get around the problem. When do click the link directly on google I get re-directed to ad sites, and when I was scanning through these forums its seems like other people were having a similiar problem.

Also my cursor will often fling around the computer screen leaving me to believe I'm being hacked, but why?? I have nothing important on my computer, and by no way am I ever using my credit card on here. (sorry tangent). It will also quickly scroll down.

And the last thing thats been happening is that it's prevented me from viewing images and will sort of block youtube.

This thing is nasty, and I'm willing to do what ever I can to get it fixed. It just looks like reformatting is my only option. Which I have no idea how to do.

Thank you!

I just reinstalled my operating system (Windows XP) on to my Dell Dimension 3000 computer. I am stuck on 16 bit colors and screen resolution 640 by 480. In my new hardware video controller(VGA compatible) is listed and won't be installed by my Dell-color monitor disk. I am completely confused on how to fix this problem.

A:Stuck At 640 By 480

Do you have any driver disks for your computer?

Do you know what video card is in your computer?

I have let so many issues build to the point almost to the point where I don?t know where to start, however I will try to limit this query to one of most troublesome of the bunch?

According to several different ?gadget? CPU meters, and my accompanying vacant stare, my RAM & CPU usage is off the scale most of the time. The problem ranges from sluggish, to frozen, to complete program failure. Using Process Explorer, I have identified and stopped most of the recognizable process/service memory pigs and extraneous startup programs/services with modest success.

Relatively high demand programs such as MS Outlook Enterprise 7 will ramp its RAM usage up to 500 MB and iexplore.exe can hit 250 MB with ease. Without opening IE8, it is not unusual to have 2-10 ?iexplore.exe? processes listed as running with widely ranging demands on processing power. Several other ?critical? MS processes are similarly affected. The single biggest collective offender seems to be ?svchost.exe ?processes, of which at least 15 are running as I type.
If I create another user (with or without administrative authority), they run perfectly well for a few days or so, and then begin to succumb.

I have tried Sophos, CA and Kaspersky internet security suites with varying results, but never uncovered a smoking gun. Have dabbled with Malewarebytes Anti-Malware, Ad-Aware, Glary?s, Spybot, etc, but they seems to offer only superficial assistance. They lack the heft I seek to snare the White Whale ... Read more
