Hi..I have got this new Thinkpad X250 with pre installed Windows 7 Professional. It has 1TB HDD and a 16GB SSD which I believe has got the recovery. I wanted to know if there is any way to reinstall my Windows without inserting any external bootable drives and if yes then what steps should I take to get the re installation done and get back my system the way it was when I bought it...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I see the dot of the "i" in the ThinkPad logo is back-lit (the dot glows red).  It appears to show the computer is in use, sleeping, etc.  Not sure the value of that given that I seemed to survive without it in all my previous ThinkPads.  Does anyone have any insight as to why they added the red-dot "i"?  For those that may not have noticed, it is in the ThinkPad brand logo on the backside of the LCD (backside of the computer screen - facing away from you as you use the system). Is there more value to this than meets the eye?  Just curious. Thank you.

Hi everyone, I've just received my new Thinkpad x250 which I ordered on ebay (bad decision)  and it looks suspicious.  Firstly, it doesn't have a fingerprint reader - I've never met x250s without fingerprint readers, also lenovo website didn't allow to customize it this way. Secondly, the overall case seems not genuine (for example, "x250" label looks different than on the official pictures). Also, it has weird serial number (starting with 20CLS...) that cant be found on the PSREF and warranty started 3 days before purchase. Am i paranoid or it's worth returning it to seller? Thank you!Ilya

A:Thinkpad x250 - fake suspicion

you can get without fingerprint, webcam and so on but thats only special order within companies only so either person got this off his jobb but sold it after as i new condition since he wasn't happy with it, Could you send some pictures of your laptop so me and others on here can see how exactly is it fake?

Hi guys, I have been browsing through the forums and trying various 'solutions' without success. My Lenovo Thinkpad x250 has a black screen and I have run out of ideas on how to fix this. A few points:- Sometimes (maybe 1/20 times) the lenovo logo comes on before the screen 'remembers' to go black- I have tried to turn on in BIOS and still black screen- It works perfectly well with VGA cable- I have Intel (R) Graphics 5500 as the only option in Display Adpaters. It is up to date at the time of posting (Vers. 20.19.15.4835) - The issue started after I left the laptop at work 'updating'. It clearly updated and I believe the black screen came after restarting (when updates were complete)- First couple of days the screen would come on if I connect VGA for a few minutes and remove it - weird! This doesn't happen anymore- I have opened the back and screen and it looks like the connecting cables are all intact-Everytime I turn the laptop on I can definitely see a change in the shade of black on screen - goes from black to what looks like a very dark grey (nearly black) Does anyone know how to fix this? Very sorry if I am repeating a solved question, I haven't come accross a solution that has worked yet.

Hi, my laptop is ThinkPad X250 bought last year. I can see that it has the SIM card slot for installation of SIM card. However, after I purchase a new SIM card and service then I realize that I cannot get onto the internet with the SIM card. The SIM card should be 3G/4G ready which is not only a sole phone card for calling. Is it because my model does not support wireless WAN? What can I do to check if my model can get onto the mobile internet?? I DO NOT mean WiFi If it does not support mobile internet, why it has a SIM card slot available?? so wired to me Can I add any extra hardware to make it 3G/4G possible if it does not support originally??

Hello, Last week my X250 installed a significant Windows 10 update and then a BIOS update. Since then, frequently, but I don't think always, when I restart the laptop after it had been in standby the machine actually restarts. When you open the lid, the green power light in the power button flashes rapidly and then the machine reboots, with the obvious consequence that open documents are lost etc. I cannot be absolutely certain that this is linked to one of the updates, but I have had the machine for just under a year and this had never happened before. It is not a battery issue as this shows a good charge level after a restart from standby. Has anyone come across a similar problem? Many thanks in advance for any advice. Paul

Simply, I can't insert special characters using alt-codes. The ThinkPad X250 does not have a NumLock key and has no numpad. I've tested Fn+Alt using each Alt key and all the combinations of Fn and FnLk available in the bios and on the keyboard to no avail. Copy/Paste from the character map and inserting special characters in Word are cumbersome workarounds. I would greatly prefer to use alt-codes because it's more efficient for frequently inserting characters into formulas. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Hi all, I have a ThinkPad X250 which came with a smart card reader from Lenovo. I don't need the card reader and would like to swap it out for the M.2 subcard for the ability to install a second M.2 SSD. I have found the FRUs for the M.2 subcard (04x3827) and the cable (04x3939), but looking at the pictures of the cable and looking at the motherboard, I can't see anywhere it can physically be connected. Has anyone attempted to do this before, or am I the first to try this? I've already ordered the parts, so worst case I'm $30 out of pocket, but it seems strange that there isn't a corresponding connector on the motherboard anywhere. I can't see Lenovo making two versions of the motherboard where one is for systems without the subcard and one is for systems with it. Does anyone have any insight on this?

A:Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE Mobile Broadband FRU: 04X6014 for my ThinkPad X250

Regarding your questions:1) I personally use it and it's really good, as I don't want to use additional USB modem or WWAN wireless router.2) Can't say, as I don't use Fedora.3) There's a dedicated port for this module. Please make sure, that you have an antenna connectors for module and adapter for a SIM card. Moreover, instead of WWAN module, you can install there a m.2 2242 SSD disk.4) Both can be enabled and connected, but application will use one at time.5) I have an extended battery, so it's hard to tell. I guess it have a simmilar power usage as WLAN module (basing on Windows power utilization). Can't say about Fedora.6) It you don't want to have a problem with whitelist (it prevent system from booting, when unauthorized module is installed), then I look for module on eBay. Make sure, that photos explictly show FRU PN: 04X6014 on module's label. Models without it will not work.

Hi Voljka,For company or production environment, Windows Insider Preview / Release Preview builds is not recommended, as the drivers may not be ready for all types of hardware.  I would suggest you revert back to Windows 10 RS3 (15063), and wait until it is ready and show up in the Windows Update.

Hello!  I am seeking the sage wisdom of veteran thinkpad owners for an upcoming purchase.  I am considering an x250 (i5, 256 ssd, 8gb, 1080P ips non touch, with nothing but a fresh install of Windows 10 pro 64 bit and MS office pro plus) to use for the next two years while I complete a degree(mostly paper writing, web browsing, netflix/youtube etc..nothing heavy). I prioritize a good keyboard, good battery life, light weight(under 3lbs), durability, and saving money if possible.  With that said, I can't deal with laggy performance and lackluster battery life. I "could" buy a new laptop, but am having a hard time justifying spending that much since my usage is so light.  My previous laptop was a macbook air and it served me well, but the keyboard never really impressed me. I recently bought a 2nd hand ThinkPad x250 with pretty low specs. I want to investigate the possibility to upgrade the screen from the IPS Non-Touch HD to a FHD touchscreen. At many places I read it is not possible because 'the motherboard is different', but I cannot find any motherboard with or without touch support. I suspect that it's not the motherboard itself not supporting the digitizer, but some other part that needs to be replaced or added to the system. Is it an option to buy a working complete X240 with touchscreen and swap components to move the touchscreen to the X250? I don't want to swap the motherboard itself because then I basically end up with a X240 in a X250 housing with only 8GB Ram support, and I want to upgrade to 16GB.

Hello guys I recently bought a second hand X250 with an Intel 240gb SSD installed and I am planning to install also an M.2 SSD to install Linux.I have already installed Linux in another partition in the Intel, but in general I am not a big fan of grub and also I don't like the restriction of maximum 4 primary partitions per disk. I would prefer to keep the Windows drive 100% clean of any Linux staff. So, I'm planning to install my Linux in the M.2 drive (I have already cleaned my system disk of the Linux staff, grub etc) and I was wondering if choosing the boot up device from the bios is going to be an option, without grub or other boot loaders. I just want to leave the Intel as default boot device and when I want to boot up in Linux, I will choose to boot from the M.2 SSD.Will such a setup work in my Thinkpad? As far as the M.2 drive itself, a 120 gb is more than enough and I am planning to go for an ADATA. I have read a lot of negative reviews about the Transcend M.2s and I don't trust "random" manufacturers, like ZTC or KingDian. Is there any better option for me? Thank you very much for your time. Good morning everyone. I installed on my x250 (using a free WWAN slot) M.2 SSD disk - ADATA Premier SP600 256GB M.2 SSD. First installation: April 2016. The disk worked great. After a "BIG windows10 update" the drive began to freeze and died on August 2016. The drive was replaced with a new one. On March 2017 the problem returned (in the new disk) - again began to freeze and died. From here my question arises - did I make a mistake somewhere? Do dear forumers who did similar installations on their x250 have similar problems? What can I do to prevent the problem on the third drive? During installation I did not mix anything in BIOS etc - just "plug ang play". I would be very grateful for your help.

Hi, I just bought a X250 today. I received it with Windows 7 Pro, and the first thing I did was upgrade it to Windows 10. After an hour of use, I noticed that the battery was draining really fast. I clicked in the battery icon on the system tray and noticed that it says: Battery 1: This battery is not available for useBattery 2: 40% (or whatever) I opened Device Manager and I see two devices listed under the "batteries" section, both of them called "Battery with Microsoft ACPI-compliant control method" (translating from Spanish, which is my system language, so it might not be exactly like this). I guess this means that the system indeed detects that there are two batteries, so it looks like a software problem. I right clicked on both of them and selected "uninstall", and then went to action > look for hardware changes, so that should refresh the driver. After doing that, the "battery 1: this battery is not available" message still appears. I also noticed that there was a power manager application from Lenovo which is not compatible with Windows 10. After upgrading, Windows notified me that this app had been removed and I don't see a W10 equivalent on the support downloads section of the Lenovo website. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Pau

A:X250 Battery 1 "is not available for use"

I also tried unplugging the second battery (the removable one). Immediately after unplugging it, the computer shuts down. If I turn it on without the second battery and plugged into the wall outlet, the icon in the lower right corner (system tray) says "no battery found"; however, on device manager I still can see one battery appearing. If I click on "properties" in device manager, it says that the device is working correctly, and there is no sign of any error log or crash report inside the battery properties in device manager.  I tried updating the BIOS and resetting BIOS to defaults, and it makes no difference. I also tried running Ubuntu from a USB stick ("try" option) and it only detects the second battery, not the integrated one.  I guess it must be a hardware problem.

I've just received a new X250, maxed out, and I'm really unhappy. Within a few minutes of booting it, I was seeing red and blue horizontal lines on the screen. I hoped these would be fixed by updates, but regardless of the driver, they are still there. To add insult to injury, the ports on the left hand side of the laptop do not line up with the casing. The USB port can be used, but the Display Port is seriously rubbing. The VGA connector is unusable. I'd hoped I'd have the laptop a week before I started a new job, and now it looks like I will be a week later. Does anyone know how I best approach Lenovo for a replacement under the Sale of Goods Act? I really don't want it to be repaired - this is a bad machine.

A:Really disappointed in new X250

Sorry to hear about the issues with your new X250. That must be very frustrating. According to Lenovo, returns should be easy providing you do it within 14 days.

I appreciate you may not receive the replacement before you start your new job. You might want to ask Lenovo if they have a similarly configured X250 in stock that they could send you instead of waiting for the replacement to come from China.

My second X250 came in with a 16GB SanDisk SSD in addition to a 500GB HDD. Reading through the forum, a post mentioned that this 16GB SSD is placed in the position of the smart card reader. The mannual says this is a 3rd NGFF adapter. I am wondering if this 16GB SSD can be upgraded with a m.2 2242 32GB SSD module (or other types). I opened the back cover, lifted the internal battery, then lifted the shining metal cover a little and I don't see a memory module and port under it. I have installed Linux Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on to this 16GB SSD; the Ubuntu install runs well except that only 1.5GB space left. I am trying to see if there is a way to replace this 16GB SSD with a larger size module. I recently bought an X250, and immediately upon using it, found that the spacebar is not as responsive as all the older thinkpads I've had in the past. Specifically, when I type I press on the right side of the spacebar to create a space, but my usual amount of force is no longer responded to by the keyboard. If I push harder, it will respond, but that's annoying because it slows down my typing speed. If I press on the middle of the spacebar it works much better, and if I press it with my left thumb it works better, too. Does that mean I'm typing wrong all these years, or did I end up with a bad key?  I have depot service, so would Lenovo address this if I send it in? If I send this in, do I need to remove all the data on the machine? Would they replace the spacebar or the entire keyboard as I saw somewhere? How long would it take? Gotta say that the keyboard is much worse than the X230 that I am coming from. Thanks for any heads up!

I too have this problem. What's the solution other than retraining your typing?

I have 3 company X250's, i know they have a 16GB mSATA SSD. I throw in some new 256GB SSD's to replaced the standard HHD. Is the only way to reimage those new SSD's to take out the 16GB mSATA SSD so that they wont fail? I was getting this error every time i tried "system_thread_exception_not_handled(ndis.sys)". Is there a way to disable that drive temporally in the BIOS?

After using my x250 for about a year with occasional issues where it wouldn't detect when i connected the charger, it now completely refuses to boot or give any signal of life. Connecting the power cable doesn't even light up the power button. Tried a different charged with the same results.

I already had a SATA SSD in the third M.2 slot. The SSD went bad. Now I'm looking for a replacement. I saw Toshiba made a 2242 form factor NVMe SSD (RC100). Can I use an NVMe SSD in X250? Help much appreciated. Thank you.
