I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello @Georgie-M? Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome! The message you get comes because the computer does not detect a HDD present. If your computer is under active warranty, you should contact HP for assistant and service because if you do something on your own, your warranty may be void and not accepted should the need arise. If your computer is not under active warranty period or you want to try it on your own, please check the computer's manual how to open the "box". Here is also a video example>>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vd5FdeF3PP8 The video is about "how to replace" but you need to open the PC box, check the HDD, try to get it out and then get it back in to ensure it is in place.  If nothing helps, it may be something more serious and you will need to bring (or ship it) the PC to service to HP Authorized Service Center where the technicians will do this for you. If you are not sure where such a center is located, check these or contact HP for assistance in finding the nearest one for you:>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00372730>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/store-finder/find.do?bs=SR4&type=authorized  Hope this helps !

A:www.hp.com/go/techcenter/pcdiags

Hi,

Can you provide the PC model number and what version of Windows you are using?  Also, there should have also been an error code like 301 or 302 that was displayed when you see the Failure ID that you posted.

Does the PC ever boot into windows or do you just get the message and it won't go any further?

If you can get into Windows at all, it is definitely time to backup any important information still on the PC (like pictures and documents).

Give the information you've provided, it is likely that the hard drive has failed or is about to fail and it will need to be replaced.  Take a look at Hard Drive Failure Errors: Imminent Failure, Smart, BIOHD, HD535, etc, it has links to additional documents on creating recovery disks, backing up your files, and more.

If the notebook is in warranty, then just contact HP to get it fixed.

If the notebook is not in warranty, then you may want to replace the hard drive yourself.  Replacing the hard drive on most notebooks isn't hard, but without knowing which model notebook you have, I can't provide specific instructions.  Once the hard drive has been replaced, you will need to run a recovery using recovery disks you have either created or purchased from HP to put the operating system back on the hard drive and be back up and running.

Good Luck!
R

A:www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup

That indicates the RAM has failed. Sorry. This could be one stick of memory that has failed or multiple sticks of RAM have failed if there is more than one. If it is only one stick of RAM, then that one will need to be replaced. Most notebooks have what is called shared video memory. This means the same RAM that serves as a quick working space for notebooks also renders the video to be displayed which can show as a video issue. What model is the notebook exactly? I may be able to recommend some RAM to give an idea of how much that would cost if it is out of warranty. If it is in warranty, contact HP to have it serviced.

Hi I have a problem with my Audio, in the bottom left corner it gives a message of "No Speakers or Headphones are plugged in". I've done everything from system restore, HP recovery manager to re-install the drivers and also formatting the PC. I restarted held F2 and did a compnent diagnostic on the Audio, which gave an instant failure and gave a code which is, 9GA9BR-6QR75B-XD7WXF-20AS03.I've googled the code and also put it into the HP search, but it comes up with nothing. I was hoping somebody here could come up with the answer, Thanks.

Hi, Probably the Failure id 24 character code is unique, only for your machine therefore you can't search anywhere. Sadly to say: the HDD on your machine is failing. Is it still under warranty ? If yes, please contact HP in your country for a replacement otherwise backup data (if you could) and replace it by yourself.      http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/contact_us.html Regards.

Hello everyone - This post is intended to explain what you should do when you see an error message followed by: "http://www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup" What it could indicate? Usually, there will be an error before or after the website is introduced into the message. It could indicate the following, but is not limited to: - Boot device or hard disk error.- Fan or cooling system error.- Wireless module error.- Any other hardware error. What should you do? That honestly depends on what kind of error you see. What I did was include the main and most common errors in my list of possibilities. I will provide HP documents that contain troubleshooting for those first two issues: Resolve Boot Device not Found Error Message Reducing Heat Inside the PC to Prevent Overheating Some other ideas to troubleshoot hardware issues include: Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset Testing for Hardware Failures In all honesty, though, there is likely some sort of hardware failure. If this cannot resolve the issue, the computer will need to be serviced. Calling HP phone support is the final step. You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide That's all for the basics behind this type of error. Feel free to comment if you have any other questions or concerns. Mario

I had a Dell engineer arrive this week to replace the hard drive and screen on my Dell 7537 laptop. Dell customer support downloaded windows onto my usb key so that it would be ready for the installation.

Everything went fine and he installed windows on my laptop, but we didn't connect to wifi as I said I would use a faster internet connection later to download the drivers.
Now it turns out that the windows key used by the dell engineer wasn't the correct one and I can't activate my version of windows. Error code 0xC004C003. Is this because I originally had windows 8 on my laptop and then took the free upgrade to windows 10? I have asked if dell support could provide me with a key repeatedly but they keep deflecting the question.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

A:screen says: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup

Hi Jessica,If you have used f2 & f11 in startup and did hard drive test and it returned a failure ID saying errors on hard drive, then it means your hard drive is failing/has failed. You must replace it with a new one of similar form factor. You ought to have Recovery media (DVD/USB) that you must have already created before with you, to factory reset to be HDD after replacement into the HDD bay.Else you may have to buy a Recovery USB specific for your model from HP to factory reset. To salvage the data (if any) from failed drive, you can take it out, connect it to another laptop using SATA to USB adapter. Use Windows Explorer and copy it.RegardsVisruth

I had a small problem view .mov files on my Toshiba laptop and decided to call to customer service to find out if I could add either RAM or a better video card. After 45 minutes of trying to convince me that my computer has been hacked 32,231 times in the last year, I was then asked to have the "ANTI-HACKING SQUAD" remove many DLL files that they said were dangerous (rundll32.exe).
The cost would be $329.00 plus another $100+ dollars for protection.
Since I have NEVER been hacked, never has any accounts accessed, have only found the normal number of cookies that I remove on a daily basis using "SUPERANTISPYWARE" software which I have been using for 6 years, along with Microsoft's Security software.
I made the call via the Toshiba.com web site and talked to the TECHCENTER where they remotely connected to my laptop and tried to convince me I was extremely vulnerable to hackers.
Since I never had any problems, I said I would have to think about spending almost $600. before going ahead. At that point they abruptly ended the call, seeing that I was not a candidate for their "pitch".
Toshiba goes off my list when I get my next computer. (We have two in our home.)

A:TOSHIBA TechCenter, a scam?

By any chance do you still have that phone number you called?
That tech center is definitely not part or party of the real Toshiba site and in no way sponsored or associated with them. Most websites have little or no control over ads that may display on their sites...... and ads can be hacked onto websites or appear to be part of sites when some adware or spyware is the real culprit. You've had several threads with some pretty heavy malware removal and the appearance of the "Tech Center" is most likely related to some new, or leftover, malware. I know-- it SEEMS like it must have been the Toshiba support people but it was not. If your warranty was from a box store like Best Buy, and you saw a phone number at a site, that number was the scam..... I can show you the real Toshiba tech support center numbers if you wish.

Either rollback to a previous restore point before the updates, do an O/S repair if you have the Win 8 install DVD or try what's in the link in an attempt to repair the O/S.

You can use the Windows-key/x-key combination to get to the Admin Command Prompt to issue the command in the link.

I have a problem. When I turn the computer on I can access and browse the internet (IE7) with no problems. If I run windows update Start - Programs - Windows Update, I can get to the first page, but once I select either express OR custom, the computer seems to dump the internet connection. It will eventually time out and give me the "this page cannot be displayed" message.

Attempts to open Internet Explorer thereafter also meet the same fate. I have to restart the machine to regain connectivity. The use of the windows tool to check the internet connection once the problem occurs gives me the 12007 error which has been described in other threads.

I have not encountered any other website that causes the same problem.

Running XP Pro SP2/Asus Motherboard P5WD2-Premium/ Bios revision 0606/Intel P4 processor/ OS stored on Western Dig 32 gig 10,000 rpm drive/ Raid 5 array for bulk storage.

Can anyone help suggest anything that might help?

The hard drive has failed /is failing and will need to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If not a retail laptop SATA hard drive can be used. Just be sure to get one of at least equal capacity as the original in order to use Recovery Discs. It can be larger, but not smaller capacity. For instance if you have a 500GB hdd you could use a 750GB hdd but not a 320GB hdd. If you need more help selecting/replacing the hdd post back with full Model & Product Number as listed on the Service Tag attached to bottom of laptop. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number

After Windows automatically updates my laptop, a website I frequently visit resets me to 0 visits. I can't post replies until I have visited 5 times and can't start threads until I've visited over 20 times. This happens every time Windows updates. Does anyone know why this happens? Is there anything I can do to prevent this? It's very frustrating.

A:After Windows updates, a website forum I visit resets me to 0 Visits

You might want to ask the website that you are visiting why this is happening. That website should not be using any "visit count" system that could be messed up via browser updates.

Sorry -- but I'm not quite following you here.

Can you please describe your exact problem a little more?

Are you saying that you'll be on a page reading it and then suddenly, without warning, the page just reloads itself?

Make sure that you have the most recent version of Chrome installed - https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/

Uninstall the current version of Chrome completely with Revo Ininstaller (free version) - Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Then re-install the latest version of Chrome.

Hey everyone, I have got a really strange problem. Any help would be appreciated!
I have a few small websites hosted on a fedora server, and on ANY WIRED WINDOWS box, when i go to visit the websites hosted on my server,

internally, the page does not load.

Sometimes parts of the page get loaded, some of the images etc, but the browser (firefox, ie, anything) never fully gets all of the data. It

just circles around and eventaully times out.

I can visit the outside world fine, any other site, but as soon as i go to an internal site on the very same wired client, they fail.

Here is some other information:

--> The server is hosted on a wired connection

--> When i boot up a wired machine with Fedora and request a page on an internal site, it works. windows, wired clients are the only ones

that fail.

--> If you go to our sites on any wireless connection, on any operating system on any type of box, they work.

--> I have tried using a HTTP tracing utility such as Fiddler, and it just circles around as well, no information regarding the request is

displayed.

--> I have tried putting all the cards to 100megabit full duplex instead of auto negotatiated, still dont come up on windows.

I know the network, router etc are all good, because the same wired client booted on fedora works no problem, and the sites get served up to

the outside world just fine.

I know its a mouthful, but im beatin my brains out trying to figure this one out. Any help would be ... Read more

A couple of weeks ago (well maybe 10 days ago) I turned on my computer to see that the desktop was nothing but the photograph background I usually see. My icons were gone! Taskbar, Start Menu, too.

I tried CTRL-ESC. Didn't work. I tried to run explorer.exe. Didn't work. I can't even access Control Panel (control.exe). I don't have malware or a virus (though I did just do a big clean, but only the speed of my computer improved; I still have to run all my programs through Task Manager), but I think the damage was probably done by a virus or trojan.

I've tried the Fix on Kelly's Korner. I've tried looking at Microcoft's page for help, but I can't find anything. I even tried copying the explorer.exe file from my machine at work and putting it in place of the other explorer file (I kept the original, though renamed it). Nothing has worked. I'm fed up and don't want to have to do a clean install. Can someone help me?

Hi

I wondered if anyone out there has had a similar experience to me...

For some weeks now I have had problems where the START MENU wouldn't launch, metro apps (OneDrive, Tweetium, Money, News etc) would fail to launch (just a blank window up), right mouse clicks wouldn't work, internet browsing slowed up...
Signing out of my windows account then back in again solved it... FOR A WHILE. After an hour or two gradually (one app after another etc) the same problems would occur.
Researching this, I came to the conclusion that Windows 10 was corrupt (or at least my user profile was) and a re-install was necessary. OR I also read of compatibility problems with Windows 10 in my AV software (Kaspersky Internet Security 16.0.0.614) and wondered if the problem lay there.
Yesterday I uninstalled Kaspersky and relied on Win Defender. For 2 days now (unprecedented recently) my laptop has behaved impeccably, no problems as above.
So, am I to blame Kaspersky? Am I safe with Just Win Def? Any other AV suites throwing up problems? Any Kaspersky users with any experiences to share?
Thanks!

Almost all computer users need to restart, shut down or hibernate their systems at some time and doing all these things were easy enough in previous Windows versions such as Windows XP, Vista and 7. But suddenly Microsoft introduced Metro UI in Windows 8 and removed the Start button and Start menu from Windows 8. Although you can get start button and start menu back using this tutorial but that's a different thing. Many Windows 8 users are facing problems in getting used to this new Metro UI and Start Screen and the most difficult part of this new interface is the missing power options. There is no direct option given to restart, shut down, hibernate, sleep your PC.In this tutorial, we'll tell you how to add a new cascading menu in Desktop context menu (right-click menu) which will provide easy and direct access to all following power options: Lock Log Off Switch User Sleep Hibernate Restart Shut Down Shut Down (Hybrid)More info at the link: http://www.askvg.com/add-cascading-menu-for-restart-shut-down-hibernate-and-other-power-shortcuts-in-desktop-context-menu-of-windows-7-and-8/

I upgraded from Windows XP to 7. I have "menu command" and "menu pop-up" sound effects set but they are not working for the Windows 7 start menu. They used to work for XP. It was helpful to hear a sound effect whenever a menu expanded or item was pressed in the start menu. I know this may be a minor problem, but can this be fixed in a future patch or service pack?

I want to open the Start Menu folder to remove some shortcuts I had created there (because back then, I wanted them to appear in my Start Menu. Now I don't.) And this has led me to this rather peculiar observation:

I can open the Start Menu folder not only for the current user but also for "All Users" by click the Start button -> right clicking "All Programs" and then selecting either from the Menu that  comes up.However, I cannot open the Start Menu folder if I do Windows+R on the keyboard to open the Run window -> type in "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu" -> hit Enter key. When I press enter, the computer presented the
UAC prompted asking me if I wanted to open the Airdroid application installed on my computer. Since this was unusual, I uninstalled Airdroid and ever since, when I paste "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu" and hit enter in the Run window,
it doesn't do anything...it simply returns me to Run window again.

Why is this happening? Why doesn't the Run window open the Start Menu folder? Is this some kind of Trojan activity?

I also notice that for the past 2-3 days, since I run the last Microsoft Security Essentials scan, my computer has been rather laggy in its performance...despite the fact that the CPU usage and the Memory usage were only around the 20% mark. I remember
that I had assigned Processor Affinity for some processes that time (including the MSE because I thou... Read more

Not sure if this is the right section but here goes:

I've got a slight problem with my windows menus in that the content is too big for the actual menu box. There's no option to drag to make the box bigger, it's just that the actual content is way to big for the box as if the font/rendering size is just set too large.

How would I go about changing this? Here's a screenshot of an example of what I'm dealing with:

As I stated earlier, it's not giving me an option to drag the window to make it bigger so any input you guys can give me is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

It doesn't appear from your screenshot that you've specified "medium - 125%" for your font size, but have you?

I've done that myself on my own systems, and deal with this same symptom of yours fairly often but with other application programs. I prefer the slightly larger text characters, as they are clearer and darker... like "more ink".

If you've specified "medium - 125%" then this is a common long-standing problem for many years (including back with WinXP), related to the software product but really tied to Microsoft's providing a way to enlarge things but not automatically increasing window sizes to match.

With WinXP it was "small fonts (96DPI)" vs. "large fonts (120DPI)" and with Win7 it's "normal - 100%" vs. "medium - 125%". Unfortunately, unless the application program is written to use certain standard API's or recognize that the large fonts are in effect and draw its own window... Read more

Anyone know if there is a way to configure the Windows 7 start menu "all programs" to be a pop out menu like Windows XP? I prefer is that way because it can show all items at once without needing to scroll.

Hi,

You can't do it in-house but there are several 3rd party apps that can get your Windows 7 Start menu looking & behaving just like XP.

One such app is CSMenu

Its not your hosts file. I have no hosts file problem, but I get the Network Solutions page as well.

It actually says "this site is under construction and coming soon..."
Looking at the URL, the domain is parked there.

No idea why your friend can get the site.

Here is the site as it used to be, from Googles cache of it.

No its not, the TSG site doesn't like the word....
Just search Google for Outwar, and use the "show cached" option.

Although I consider myself fair at computers, I am definitely unskilled when it comes to figuring out what is wrong with my computer. So, I was hoping to enlist your help. Here are the symptoms and what I have done thus far, plus the HiJack this and Kap. scan log. Let me know if you need anything additional.

Tried to update McAfee, but found I could not go to download.mcafee.com to get the latest software or any of the tools to completely remove it from my computer for a clean re-install. In trying to figure out what was wrong, I also found I could not update Microsoft, could not log in to Messenger, and some websites would jump to Yellow Book after clicking on the link. I have run SpyBot, Norton 360 (downloaded trial version), Kaspersky, Stinger, and Windows Defender, none of which found anything related to this issue. I also searched specifically for Virtumonde but it was not found. As requested, here is the Kaspersky log and the HiJackThis log. I could not get the RSIT to work as it kept failing during the system registry dump.
Please help as I really do not want to erase my hard drive and start over.

Thanks.
