I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Connecting to an ethernet cable to the internet via a Dell USB-C hub prior to installing the Win10 Fall Creators update. Now my only option is to connect via WIFI. Windows 10 does not recognize my ethernet port on th Yoga 900. Anyone know how to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

As with the Creators Update, the key to our phased approach is actively listening to all available feedback mechanisms and making the appropriate product updates during the rollout. This allows us to provide a high-quality experience for the broadest set of users at an accelerated rate, while also continually increasing the quality and security of Windows 10. This was our approach with the Creators Update released in April and user feedback on this approach was very positive.

For the best experience, we recommend you wait until Windows 10 is automatically offered to your device. You don?t have to do anything to get the update; it will roll out automatically to you through Windows Update if you?ve chosen to have updates installed automatically on your device. Once the download is complete and the update is ready to install, we?ll check with you, so you can pick the right time to finish the installation and reboot. We do this so we can ensure the update does not disrupt you, and we use active hours to help suggest a good time.

If you don?t want to wait for the update to roll out to you, you can manually check for updates on your personal PC using the steps below. This will only work if your device is eligible to get the Fall Creators Update as part of the initial roll out phase. Alternatively, you can manually get the update today via the Software Download Site. This option is only recommended for advanced users on devices running a licensed version of Windows 10. If ... I would like to comment on the Fall Creator's Edition Update of Windows 10!  This has to be one of the biggest disasters that Microsoft has ever accomplished.  As one can see from the various problems encountered after the install this update was not well designed, was not thoroughly quality controlled and now has the support staff scrambling to figure out how to answer all of the issues that it caused.  Here is my list of issues after the update:  Mail and Calendar programs missing from Start Menu, Control Panel Apps shows them to be installed but I cannot add to start menu and cannot start either program.  Several other Apps also missing from Start Menu including Amazon, Adobe Reader and most other third party Apps but also several more Microsoft Apps or Windows Programs.  Files missing:  Somehow during the install Microsoft decides to remove the pointers from the Pictures and Documents folders so that it appears all previous files in these locations are lost.  By navigating thru Users...Documents I was able to retrieve all of the files but how many novice or new users are going to know how to do this type of trouble shooting?  This is a bonafide nightmare for Microsoft and takes me one step closer to trading in all of Dell computers for Macs!  It cannot possibly be worse than two days of troubleshooting and researching how to get back to the same functionality I had before installing the latest Windows 10 Update!  ... A:Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

I agree.  In my opinion Windows 10 is nothing but an Operating System that is perpetually in Beta status with millions of people acting as testers.  I know understand why Microsoft wants constant information from your computer.  It seems that every time there is a big update in the spring or fall, they have to wreck everything.  Oh well I still enjoy my XPS with 8.1 and my iMac ;p

Hi everyone, As probably most of us have, I recently updated my Yoga 910 with the Windows 10 Creators Fall edition to try to solve the constant fan noise and heating issues of the previous build. The new update solved these problems, but now I'm having severe boot issues. Either from hibernation or start up the screen stays black and the keyboard blinks on and off until after a really long time I get the Lenovo boot screen. Can somebody help me, I´m starting to loose it because I really need the computer for work and cant afford for it to loose my data. Thanks

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Reaches RTM

Microsoft has completed development of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, with the official release to take place as planned on October 17.

The company today shipped Windows 10 build 16299.15 to insiders in the Fast ring, and according to reports, this is the RTM build of the Fall Creators Update that everyone will get later this month.

The only difference is that Microsoft will continue to service (to improve) this particular build with more cumulative updates, and this means that insiders will be provided with several patches in the coming days until October 17.

Microsoft has promised to confirm when the RTM build is compiled, so an announcement in this regard is expected anytime soon, especially because the company is also likely to start pushing smaller patches to devices enrolled in the Insider program in the next few days.

No word on the mobile release just yet
For the time being, no stand-alone ISOs are available for insiders, but once the very same build is released to the Slow ring, such media should also be released for those who want to perform a clean install. Additionally, this build should also make it to the Release Preview ring in the coming weeks.

Of course, whoever wants to clean-install build 16299.15 can build their own ISO, though this requires additional steps. Learn here how to build your own Windows 10 ISO.

Now that Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is close to getting the final go-ahead, insiders in... Read more

This focused security investment combines the best of Windows Defender ATP and the Windows security stack. We integrated Windows 10?s new prevention technologies, enhanced our built-in sensors to better detect script-based attacks, added new response capabilities and opened up powerful analytics.

So now, let?s see what we are lighting up in more detail:
Windows security features working in unison ? Get visibility into security alerts coming from the combined stack of Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), Windows Defender Antivirus (AV), Windows Defender Firewall, Windows Defender SmartScreen, Windows Defender Device Guard and Windows Defender Exploit Guard. See events reported across the stack in each machine?s timeline. Here are some of the new things Security Operations (SecOps) would be able to achieve:
See alerts and events from Windows Defender SmartScreen that show if an employee within the company clicked on a specific URL despite receiving warning message
See Windows Defender Device Guard events surfacing attempts to run unauthorized applications that have been restricted from running in the organization
See applications blocked or audited by the Windows Defender Exploit Guard protection rules

A:Windows Defender ATP Windows 10 Fall Creators Update now open for public preview

As usual, Microsoft makes an announcement that does not include a lot of pertinent details that will result in mass confusion.

This is for Windows Enterprise and Education only; it will not be shipped with Windows Home and Pro versions.

In fact, Windows Defender ATP is not included with Enterprise and Education by default. ATP requires the purchase of a subscription.

Pay attention to Microsoft's caveat:

Some information relates to prereleased product which may be substantially modified before it's commercially released. Microsoft makes no warranties, express or implied, with respect to the information provided here.

They list Windows Pro and Pro Education, but ATP cannot be purchased for Pro at the home-use level. It is for enterprises and other institutions that have opted to use Windows Pro at the volume level.

In the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, Device Portal now offers several new tools from across Windows to help you location test your UWP, explore Mixed Reality, build new hardware peripherals and test your apps new installation pipeline. It?s a little bit of goodness for everyone, and we?re excited to share these with you.

If you?re not familiar with Device Portal, you can check out the blog posts below to see what other tools you can find in Device Portal, or look at the new docs.microsoft.com to learn how to enable it.

And as always, all of these tools are backed by a REST API, so that you can use it from a scripting or client application environment using the Device Portal Wrapper.

Location Based Testing
Most of us don?t have the travel budgets to test our apps across the world ? but pretending to travel is almost as good! The Location tool in Device Portal lets you easily change the location that Windows reports to apps. By tapping the ?Override? check box, you can swap out the device location for whatever you set using the map or lat/long text boxes. Be sure to uncheck the box when you?re done so that your location (and timezone) come back to reality ? every vacation must end?

This also works for web pages in Microsoft Edge, letting you test your webpages in different parts of the world.

It was an amazing day today at Build 2017. With the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, we continue to grow the Windows platform so that Windows is home for all developers. As I reflect on the day, I want to highlight how Windows and VS are creating the best end-to-end development process and enabling developers not only to maximize their code reuse, but also to create experiences that are engaging, powered by intelligence and connected across devices.

.NET Development Improvements
With today?s announcement that .NET Standard 2.0 for UWP and XAML Standard will be coming later this year, .NET is now the most complete cross-platform development framework. This combination, along with Visual Studio, makes it easier than ever before to write fully native and full-featured apps for all your target platforms in C#, including Windows, iOS, Android, Linux and, of course, the cloud!

.NET Standard 2.0 and XAML Standard
.NET Standard 2.0 is expanding the UWP surface by over 20,000 APIs to make sure your code is more interoperable than ever. We also know that about 70% of NuGet packages are API compatible with .NET Standard 2.0. Your most requested APIs for UWP, such as Reflection and SqlClient, will be fully accessible to you from the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. In addition, XAML Standard allows you to keep much of your UI code common and still maintain a native look and feel across Windows, iOS, and Android. Your experience on Windows will automatically provide Fluent UI an... Read more

I?m happy to announce the Fall Creators Update (version 1709) is fully available for all compatible devices running Windows 10 worldwide! Full availability is the final phase of our rollout process. When a new feature update is released, we begin by targeting a select set of devices that we believe will have the best update experience based on device characteristics and testing done by us and our device partners. We then monitor feedback for issues around application and device compatibility and make adjustments along the way, if necessary. Actively listening for and responding to issues as they emerge helps us confidently expand the release to additional devices while maintaining a quality experience. We?re pleased to announce that the Fall Creators Update was the fastest Windows 10 release to reach 100M devices, all while achieving higher customer satisfaction ratings compared to prior updates!

Enterprise customers following this same targeted approach for the Semi-Annual Channel can also fully deploy when ready. As an IT administrator, you decide when to broadly deploy once you have validated the apps, devices, and infrastructure in your organization work well with this release. We?ve come a long way since we launched DirectX 12 with Windows 10 on July 29, 2015. Since then, we?ve heard every bit of feedback and improved the API to enhance stability and offer more versatility. Today, developers using DirectX 12 can build games that have better graphics, run faster and that are more stable than ever before. Many games now run on the latest version of our groundbreaking API and we?re confident that even more anticipated, high-end AAA titles will take advantage of DirectX 12.

DirectX 12 is ideal for powering the games that run on PC and Xbox, which is the most powerful console on the market. Simply put, our consoles work best with our software: DirectX 12 is perfectly suited for native 4K games on the Xbox One X.

In the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, we?ve added features that make it easier for developers to debug their code. In this article, we?ll explore how these features work and offer a recap of what we added in Windows 10 Creators Update.

But first, let?s cover how debugging a game or a program utilizing the GPU is different from debugging other programs.

As covered previously, DirectX 12 offers developers unprecedented low-level access to the GPU (check out Matt Sandy?s detailed post for more info). But even though this enables developers to write code that?s substantially faster and more efficient, this comes at a cost: the API is more complicated, which means that there are more opportunities for mistakes.

Found the following bugs in v1709.

1) The Windows Push Notification System Service now defaults to 'automatic' instead of 'manual'. If you set the startup to 'manual' and reboot, any newly created accounts will have a non-functional Start Menu.

2) Software Restriction Policy now extends BAT file restriction to local group policy ( gpedit.msc ) 's logon/logoff script settings. That means you cannot no longer use a bat file for logon/logoff scripts if SRP is active. You can always remove the BAT extension from being covered by SRP, but that would decrease security.

3) Software Restricion Policy's Enforcement section: if you specify SRP to cover 'all software files'; meaning it covers DLL files as well as EXE, then MS Edge will crash. (this bug actually started in v1703, but is still not fixed)

The crusty SMBv1 file-sharing protocol, abused by a NSA exploit last month that spread WannaCry, will be removed from Windows 10 starting with the upcoming Redstone 3 update.

?We can confirm that SMBv1 is being removed for Redstone 3,? a Microsoft representative told Threatpost.

Redstone 3, a code-name for the Fall Creators Update, will begin the phasing out of SMBv1, a plan that reportedly has been in the works for years and is not a reaction to the EternalBlue exploit, nor WannaCry. It is due in September.

SMBv1, short for the Server Message Block protocol, provides shared access to Windows file and print services on a local network. Attackers believed to have ties to North Korea used the EternalBlue exploit, leaked in April by the ShadowBrokers, to spread the ransomware worldwide on May 12. Hospitals in the U.K., giant telecommunications providers across Europe, and many businesses in Russia and across Asia fell victim to WannaCry, which eventually infected unpatched Windows servers running SMBv1 in more than 150 countries.
Microsoft had patched the SMBv1 vulnerability in question in March in MS17-010, one month before the ShadowBrokers? leak, and urged admins worldwide to install the patch immediately. The WannaCry outbreak, however, demonstrated that many organizations did not heed those warnings; the ransomware, generally derided for its shoddy coding, still managed to infect... Read more

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Bug Blocks the Install on Some PCs

The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is now being released in stages to users across the world, so while some people might receive it faster than others, there?s a bunch of unlucky Microsoft customers who can?t install the update because of a critical bug.

Some users are complaining that installing the Fall Creators Update fails unexpectedly, and the only common thing in all reports is a hardware mix of motherboards using Intel?s X299 chipsets and NVMe SSD drives.

Clean install solves the problems
This means that quite a large number of systems could be impacted, as the issue can affect motherboards manufactured by Asus, MSI, and Gigabyte. It?s not yet known how widespread the problem currently is, but Microsoft says it?s investigating and return with a fix shortly.

?At around 22% completion, my PC rebooted and suddenly displayed my normal boot screen with a white text saying ?BlInitialization failed 0xc00000bb?, and I have absolutely no idea what this is. I tried resetting my SSD (Kingston 128GB) but this issue is so bad that it won't even let me do that,? one Microsoft user who turned to the Community forums to report the issue explained.

?At first my SSD was locked, then I unlocked it using commands in CMD but it all of the sudden disappeared and windows has no idea that it even exists. I tried resetting everything and all Windows tells me is "We ran into an error." ... Read more

A:Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Bug Blocks the Install on Some PCs

On a Lenovo w/NVMe, Intel IO and an immaculate pre-Fall CU system, I could not understand why the "upgrade" to Fall CU was so issue-laden: failures, duplicate downloads--ultimately it took though. A relatively decrepit machine w/SSD breezed right thru it. Noticed afterward, I had an extra recovery partition but since there were no outward problems, just let it go. Yesterday, Start menu and most taskbar items became unresponsive. So, I did a repair-install earlier today: the disk is back to the normal EFI/C/Recovery and everything works. For now.

Thanks for this info, not fun trying to figure it out.

Hi, I've tried searching the forum for this issue but can't find a solution as yet... Looking for some help to overcome a problem I have with my E73, i5, 4GB Win 10 desktop. The Fall creators update has applied itself a couple of times to this PC and both times has resulted in the black screen with cursor issue that appears to have hit a few people. However, none of the fixes reported have worked for me. The PC was bought with Win 8.1 installed and was upgraded to Win 10 which was installed on a new 256GB SSD and the original HDD used as the data  Drive. I had suspected it was graphics card related so the last time i tried disabling the automatic updates, manually updating the Intel HD 4600 driver and running the creators update manually from the MS web site but same result. Symptoms are machine boots to login screen OK, black screen occurs after login for all accounts. If I leave it, I see a couple of pop up messages about user profiles but nothing else other than the mouse cursor. Ctrl-alt-delete gives me the usual options but selecting task manager does not bring up task manager (not that I can see any way). Booting to safe mode gives the same result. Trying to remove the package from recovery options -> cmd prompt fails. The only way to get back is holding shift and clicking restart, going into recovery options and selecting go back to previous build. I assume I am going to miss critical security updates if I cant get the update ... I'm not sure if this is the right section for this topic, but I want to know if I'm the only one with this problem. It's really annoying and I'm wondering if there went something wrong while installing the update, or if this is on purpose.

It's nothing new that Windows 10 comes with pre-installed apps, for example Candy Crush Saga and Facebook, at least for some people. In the past it wasn't a problem for me, because I could just uninstall them and move on. It was annoying, but this was solved within a few minutes.

But since I installed the Fall Creators Update, I can't get rid of these apps. I removed them at least 4 times now, but they're back after a few hours because they're installed silently in the background, or they're back after I restart my computer - Candy Crush Soda Saga, Facebook, March of Empires, Minecraft and other games.

Sometimes they're not even really installed and they're just placeholders that get installed once you click them. But it's still annoying to remove them again and again.

Changes in the registry, for example to change "SilentlyInstalledAppsEnabled" to 0, didn't change anything. Microsoft should really stop this sponsored apps nonsense completely. It's not like they need the extra money they get from this.

Thanks for reading, have a nice day!

Hello I've got a problem with Windows 1709 update. After I updated, games only sees and uses my R7 APU graphics card.My dedicated R9 M385X has absolutely no usage. In AMD crimson software, I can't set anything to "High performance" mode, so everything sticks with the R7 card. (More precisely I can set to R9 but the program sets it back to R7). In power options I slide the slider to the Max. Has anybody any solution for this problem? Thank youSorry for my English

It has come to my attention that Windows 10 FCU (version 1709) issues may stem from an incompatibility with some machines.  If you are running 1703 and it is stable, then pause feature updates in the Settings/Update & Security/Windows Update/Advanced Options selection.  This is only a temporary pause of about a week, but you can edit the registry for a permanent block.  See MSFT support for this option.  I don't want to give out instructions because I do not want to be responsible for someone screwing up their registry, but it involves deleting the NoAutoUpdate entry.  Then wait for Lenovo to update your system to be compatible with this new  1709 Update.

If you have updated to 1709 and have issues, you can roll back to 1703 by using the Recovery option.

Earlier this week we began a targeted rollout of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and I shared with you how to get it. Today, I?d like to share more details on how we will roll out this feature update to Windows 10 devices, including PCs, phones and IoT devices.
Our goal is to deliver feature updates to you as quickly as possible, while providing you with the best possible update experience.
Phased Rollout Approach
The Fall Creators Update begins rolling out to newer devices tested by us and our device partners. By starting with machines which we believe will have the best update experience, we are able to get focused feedback on application compatibility and how Windows works with the rich ecosystem of available peripherals like Bluetooth devices or cameras. Additionally, we closely monitor feedback from fans and early adopters, through programs like Windows Insiders and Windows Insider for Business, in addition to feedback from our OEM device partners, and customers like you! This helps us determine when to accelerate the release to additional devices. We repeat this process until all compatible devices running Windows 10 worldwide are offered the Fall Creators Update.

We believe this approach provides the highest quality update experience for all our customers.

With this feature update we?ve increased the number of Windows 10 devices we?ve tested in advance with our OEM device and ISV app partners. You can view some of these devices here, which includ... Read more

Hi, Lenovo Ideapad Flex 14 model 20308. When I try to update from 1703 to 1709, the download of the update seems to go well but during installation it fails. One error message that I get is:0xC1900101-0x30017 I've spent hours researching this on the internet and trying various fixes including uninstalling anti-virus, using various Windows downloaders, update tools, installation from USB stick formatted to instal Windows.  So, two qustions:1. Is my machine compatable with this? This might be a dumb question because I looked on the Lenovo site that lists supported devices:https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht505322But, I don't know what Lenovo calls my machine. I would think "Flex 14" or "20308" but I don't see that anywhere on the Windows 1703 update which did work for me. 2. Assuming that it is possible to instal 1709, does anyone have a suggestion for how I might go about it? I feel like I've tried everything short of a fresh windows instal. Thanks!Gig  I've tried searching the Lenovo site

I have a Lenovo Ideapad 700-15ISK with Windows 10 installed and after each time Windows forces me to update to version 1709, the laptop no longer recognises any wireless networks and I cannot find any way of getting the wireless connection back. The wireless icon disappears, it is as if the laptop no longer realizes that it has wireless capability, and I only see the icon indicating that a wired connection is not connected. This has happened about five or six times by now! I have tried restarting, turning airplane mode on and off, running the Network Troubleshooter (it doesn't find anything), checking the network adapter driver (it is always up to date already), and doing a network reset. I am not a computer expert so I don't know what else to try. I just keep reverting to the previous version of Windows every time it updates, but I would like to know if this is an issue with the laptop or whether there is some other step that needs to be tried. And since I can't connect to the internet once the update installs, it's kind of hard to troubleshoot at that point. Thanks.

Hello Folks,
I have a XPS 13 9360, 16 GB with an upgrade Samsung 960 Evo NVMe 1TB drive. I'm running Windows 10 Pro Build 1703, and the system runs nicely. However, yesterday Windows Update made me upgrade to 1709. The upgrade process ran smoothly, but afterwards I had the following problems:

When I tried to save a Hyper-V VM, my system sometimes crashes with a blue screen
When shutting down windows, the system gets stuck on the "Shutting down..." screen and can only be switched off by long-pressing the power-button. After that, the system boots into maintenance mode, when rebooting again it boots normally.

I forced a downgrade to 1703 and the problems disappeared again. Now I have disabled upgrades and am trying to find out how to fix this.
Has anyone run into problems with the 1709 update? Any suggenstions?
