Preferred Solution: Windows 7, HP 6470B, UEFI unable to see BIOS update files ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

HP Support Assistant keeps wanting me to upgrade my system's BIOS.  I purchased this "Display Model" machine several years ago from Ebay.  Early on I discovered that I did not have the BIOS password.  I saw references on your support forums indicating there was software to bypass or reset the BIOS password,  but since my machine was working to my satisfaction, I did not pursue this issue further. Since HP Support Assistant keeps insisting on an upgrade, I suspect I should stop ignoring the issue.  Can someone help me access my BIOS for the upgrade? Thanks, Kevin Fowler

Platform:
Windows 10 Pro
GA-X79-UD5 rev 1.0
E5-2670
40GB DDR3 Quad
512 SSD
GTX 1060

Scenario:
Upgraded Video Card from GTX 560 Ti to GTX 1060 Strix, machine boots but no video output or just black/blank screen.

Did a bit of online research and realize that two ways of fixing this
1. Change PCI setting to Legacy in BIOS/UEFI
2. Update to latest BIOS.

I decided to try and update BIOS to latest BETA (13w) using @bios from Windows. Everything went ok, reboots fine and still does now with Windows loading no problem, BUT i can't get to BIOS/UEFI???

All i get is the UEFI empty blue screen, no menus/options, just blank screen...

So i thought maybe i can reverse back to previous BIOS from windows but program wouldn't allow this. I tried sticking BIOS file in USB but the problem is i can't get to BIOS.

I Have tried running backup BIOS as board has two, but still same problem.

is it possible to update uefi bios without having a windows installation, e.g. from the bios itself using a usb stick? in the same fashion, is it possible to discard the criptographic key of ssd form within the bios, without external software? if not, these both seem fairly standard features, why are they not implemented?

Hello together, i have a problem with our System X3650 M4 Server, Machinetype Model: 5462G2G. I downloaded an imm and an uefi update file from the lenovo website.First i updated imm through the imm2 website remotly.Update did go as planned, i restarted th imm2 and after about 5 minutes the new imm2 was working an accessible,Then i tried to update the uefi bios from version 1.01 to 2.31 , also via the IMM2 -> Servermangement -> Server Firmware -> Firmware upgrade option.I Uploaded the new file lnvgy_fw_uefi_tce128i-2.31_anyos_32-64.upd, then started the upgrade process. It went through fine, and after the sucess information i was prompted to restart the OS.After 30 minutes, the server was still in System State = running in uefi mode. When i checked back to the server management -> Server firmware rab, it said UEFI Primary, Status pending, Version 2.31.Then i "powered off" the server, and restarted it 5 minutes later. All status boxes are green, but system status is still in "system running in UEFI " Mode, it wont start with the OS (VMware) Does anyone have an idea how to fix the problem. The Server also has a secondary bank with the old bios version  1.01 , how can i switch back to this backup BIOS? Many thanks in advance, i am getting a bit desperate here. The server should be operational tomorrow morning again.

Hi

Satellite C850-F0055 laptop

I am trying to figure out how to access the boot menu at power on.
I have tried f2 & f12, f2+fn & f12+fn, tried holding the keys, tapping the keys
holding for 1 second etc, I have tried all the f keys as well, tried esc, backspace
ctr+ del nothing works.
what happens when I boot up, within 1 second 'Toshiba Innovation' screen appears
and then proceeds to load Windows 8.1.
I can access BIOS/UEFI via charms-pc settings and navigate to UEFI and get in that
way but that won't help if I need safe mode.
My settings are:- ODD/USB/HDD, boot speed set to 'normal', Secure boot disabled
I have a dual boot system with Windows/Linux.
If I put a boot disk in and power up, the boot option is totally ignored but with the disk still in
and Windows loaded and I access UEFI via the above route, enter UEFI and exit again
immediately the disk bursts into life and loads the disk as is supposed to happen at start.

I have not sure where to go now so any help will be appreciated

Cheers Rozzer

I'm new to UEFI and after a failed BIOS update, I removed and completely reformatted the HDD on another machine, wiping out the UEFI partition. So now I cannot load Dell Recovery to re-flash/repair the BIOS.
I have completed all the steps for notebook computers as suggested on Dell Support here: BIOS Recovery 2 options on a Dell PC or Tablet (http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/4/SLN300716/en)
I formatted a bootable external USB key with a copy of the BIOS package properly renamed as instructed. However, when I use the CTRL + Esc key combination and power up the computer, the system does not boot to Dell Recovery, but instead the power LED flashes a 3,3 code (3 amber flashes, 3 white flashes) which indicates "Recovery Image Not Found" according to the Dell Knowledge Base. I presume this code is given because it cannot find the Dell Recovery application since it (as well as the entire UEFI partition) is now gone after I reformatted the HDD.
So, I know what the problem is, I just don't know what to do at this point to fix it.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Modifications....none.

Windows 10 already utilizes GPT partitioning....on a clean install. The only thing you would need to do is change your BIOS firmware from Legacy BIOS to UEFI BIOS. You will need to confirm that in your BIOS. Or to check with in windows.....in the search bar of cortana, type system information and when the window pops up, scroll down to BIOS mode......here's mine.

rdubayah,
If your computer was running WIndows 10 without any issues prior to downloading the Anniversary update, then you would not have had to change any settings in the bios to install the update. The UEFI and Secure Boot settings are to enable booting with a USB or DVD to install Windows.
Disable Legacy Boot Mode and Enable UEFI
Start the computer and TAP the F2 key to enter the bios. Once in the bios Press F9 to Restore the bios to the Default Settings. F10 to save changes and exit. You could have a hardware problem. To run a hardare diagnostics on the computer you would start the computer and TAP the F5 key. Insert a cd/dvd in the optical drive for running the diags.

I have a Dell XPS 8700 that failed Windows 10 anniversary update until UEFI secure boot was turned off. It apparently then completed but I cannot re-enable secure boot without the same boot problem advising
Recoveryyour pc/device needs to be repaired / during Windows 10 anniversary updateAn unexpected error has occurredError Code 0xc0000185you'll need to use recovery tools.   Is there a solution to enable UEFI secure boot ?
I am using a Dell XPS 8700 pc with an SSD drive. The Windows 10 update was installingthen after one of the reboots the error above  The pc was running prior to the update and had UEFI OS , secure boot enabled,  no prior problems.I attempted to do any of the safe mode boots but none would proceed.Disabling the UEFI safe/secure boot mode apparently let the install continue and the das it did before with I believe completion of the installation of Windows 10 anniversary update.PC now shows Windows 10 home Ver 1607 ..
The problem returns if I enable UEFI secure boot and the PC stops. I would like to determine a wayto locate the problem or issue. related to the secure boot.  Using the media creation tool may justrepeat the problem once secure boot is re-enabled.
Dell lists that they have tested XPS 8700 with this update and have not indicated problems no mention of secure boot issue.

Hello everybody. I have a question I'm hoping somebody can help me with. I have a Dell XPS 8500 which will be 2 years old this August. I am looking into installing a much bigger internal hard drive but have found out that I need the newer UEFI BIOS to do that. Well I have been driving myself crazy trying to figure out if I have the older type BIOS or the newer UEFI. According to the system information it lists the BIOS Version/Date as Dell Inc. A12, 8/28/13. It does not list any other information that could tell me the type of BIOS. I cannot find any info on whether this is the newer BIOS or not, or what my computer shipped with, as that listed in the system information is an update I did from the Dell website. Would anybody be able to tell me or do I need to contact Dell directly?? Thank you so much for your help!

A quick check in disk management can reveal some clues,

If you post that screenshot it would help.

Hello,

I am really confused on what settings are required in the UEFI Bios to run recovery USB/ disks or Linux live CDs.
It all used to be so simple. The manufacturer helpdesk seems unaware that it supplies UEFI systems - so I am working blind. Have tried boot CDs and USBs but all have booted straight into Windows to date.
Perhaps there is a basic guide but I have not found one yet.
I don't wish to change settings I have no understanding of.

I have a Medion /Lenovo desktop with an AMI UEFI Bios (12 July 2012) and Aptio Setup.

The following seem relevant are supplied as enabled in "Bios":

Intel Rapid Startup Technology
Quiet Boot
Boot Select Mode [UEFI]
UEFI Hard Disk BBS Priorities - Boot Option #1 - Windows Boot Manager
Secure Boot - Secure Boot Mode [Standard]

What do these all mean and what effect do they have on how Windows 8 runs and how boot drives run?

To boot a DVD/CD/USB drive, the bootable software DVD/CD/USB disc need have full supports Windows 8, UEFI, GPT & Secure Boot & signed by Microsoft.

Boot the disc in UEFI mode from the One Time Boot Menu, check your manual for the F? key.

Hi, can I install a Windows OS normally if I have UEFI or is there a different procedure? By normally I mean what I always did which was: boot from installation disc, follow steps, format (if necessary), click next, next, etc. I ask because I'm building a computer for the first time in a long time and last time I installed Windows 7 it was done like that, but I'm guessing my motherboard was BIOS and not UEFI. Maybe there's absolutely no difference, I just want to make sure and learn.

Also I should point out I've researched quite a bit but I'm still really not that well informed in the differences between BIOS and UEFI or what they are, although I understand they are similarly different firmwares that help communicate with the OS and all the other components. But what is the difference between UEFI and BIOS and how do I know which one I have, does it come with the motherboard? Is that how i can tell? Sorry if things don't make sense, I'm a noob.

I'm wondering if there's a sure-fire way to determine whether the underlying hardware running Windows 7 is of the UEFI or BIOS variety. I could research my particular laptop / hardware but I would like a reliable way of determining this quickly within windows for whatever hardware I'm dealing with. I was looking at this which shows several ways which people think you can find out, but I've found that they give me conflicting results. Any suggestions?

I created the USB flash drive from Microsoft's website.

Notebook Specs:
Processor Intel Core i3 2365M 1.4GHz
Motherboard Serial No: CAN0BC240456425
HDD: Seagate Momentus Thin ST500LT012
I have an ASUS Q200E notebook and I have been trying tore-install Windows 8 from the USB flash drive unsuccessfully. Basically,Windows installer cannot 'see' the hard disk but gives the option for driversto be loaded. I have tried several drivers from ASUS downloads but noneworked.

NOTE: In UEFI, when I disable Fastboot, enable CSM and disable SecureBoot Control, I see the hard disk. However, when I insert theinstallation USB drive, I no longer see it.

I would really appreciate any help I can get, whether to point me to the correctdrivers or otherwise. Thanks.

How did you create the flash drive. I recommend using Rufus to create a UEFI/GPT setup flash drive.

Hello,
Recently assembled a brand new PC using the asrock Q1900DC-ITX Motherboard. I have a brand new Samsung 850 SSD 120GB, 4GB ram, etc.

I have a Windows Enterprise 64 bit ISO file. The Motherboard is UEFI. I followed the step by step directions in the UEFI tutorial. I used Rufus on a 16GB flash drive. All went well.

I made the adjustments in the BIOS to boot to the UEFI USB drive, restarted, then windows begins to install. Problem is, I only get through the 2nd step where Windows is beginning to install (with the green check marks etc). I then get various errors including 0x80070057 and this one most often 0xC0000005 - verify installation sources are accessible.....

I also tried using the Windows 7 DVD download tool to create a bootable DVD......same issues. I do on occasion get a "memory management error" during the attempted install and the pc restarts itself mid way. It seems as if the pc just restarts if I let it sit for a period of time during the very early steps of the install/

Ive been trying various things over the last 3 days with NO luck. Any suggestions? Also, will a bootable windows DVD work in my situation (with UEFI BIOS)?

Im getting desperate lately

Thanks,
Brandon
